A lounge with great views and a fun vibe. We were lucky to get in without a problem but in if you plan on going here with a group, I would definitely not show up without a reservation. The place was busy and getting crowded fast. Also, by the time we left there was a long line trying to get in. We went there after work and were hoping to have a night cap with a co workers family member who was visiting from Switzerland. I asked the server what was the well/house vodka. She answered Ketel One. My boyfriend and I were very surprised about it and since I myself work in this Industrie I felt this can't be true. So I walked to the bar and asked. The nice gentleman told me the house vodka is Absolut. So I confronted our server and she was SO SO RUDE. Told me I HAVE BEEN RUDE TO HER WHEN I ORDERED THE DRINKS. I only asked her a simple question. In my head I thought....BITCH DON'T SELL ME SOMETHING I HAVEN'T ORDERED. I asked you nicely!!! When I asked to talk to a manager she replied very unfriendly. So I decided to walk over to the bouncer and asked to speak with the manager. In the middle of our conversation the manager appeared so I told him what happened. He told me the well vodka is Absolut or Tito's. THEN HE SAID HE WILL ADDRESS IT TO HER AFTER HER SHIFT. I understand protecting your staff but that was so so very wrong. We left without getting the drink we ordered. You have a roof top that is very desirable but make SURE that your customer are well treated!! We know, we pay, we tip!! read more

Bouncers are sexiest and morally abusive. They looked my friend dead in the eyes and told her she was "too drunk" to come in when she was fully sober. They then proceeded to flip us off and tell us to "F*** off" and "get lost". These bouncers show absolutely no remorse for a group of young girls just trying to meet up with some friends. Absolutely horrible so disrespectful. Will never be back. read more

Mr. Purple is a roof top bar that is open day and night. They sell very expensive basic drinks, it looks classy and modern but one can't sit anywhere or use the pool, and they have enough crowd control to keep it relatively comfortable. Service is meh. The view is superb though. The bouncer gave us a lot of trouble on our way in. They made us wait 10m, and rejected many groups of other people before letting us in. So bougie, this is such a fancy nice place, definitely go during the warm spring and summer months because the outside deck is insane! They have a big line out front usually, we walked right in around 6pm on a Saturday. They have $18 margaritas, lots of nice tables and lounge chairs, and if you go downstairs there's a big lobby type area you can sit and hang out. If I were to go later, it def has more of a club vibe and wouldn't show up in sneakers/jeans etc. read more

I came for a friend's birthday on a Wednesday after work around 7PM. I was told that a line starts to form around 8PM so do plan accordingly. The indoor bar space is really stunning to start. I'm a sucker for that rich tan leather, meets reclaimed wood, meets restoration hardware lighting and floor to ceiling windows with the NY skyline. Beers were priced between $6-8 and wine was around $12-15. I was a bit underwhelmed by the actual outdoor space. While it does have ample seating (props for that) I found it difficult to move around in and felt bad for servers trying to dodge the masses. That being said, I wasn't nearly as inebriated to be on the level that can put up with a crowd, maybe with one or two more beverages I would have found it more tolerable. (This pretty much sums up going out in my late twenties) Mr. Purple is a trendy space with a more sophisticated after-work crowd. Worth a pop in for pre or post dinner drinks. read more

The breathtaking view and the outside bar is truly impeccable. The cocktails are overpriced but hey, you get what you pay for. My first check-in here a few months ago, a waitress accidentally spilled alcohol all over the front of my dress. I was fairly buzzed and didn't notice how soaked I actually was until I began sobering up. Last night, the hostess informed us she would grab us from the bar when there was a table available. Fifteen minutes later, she was sitting a duo that came in after us. Clearly service here isn't their forte. But don't you worry, grab your friends enjoy a Mr. Purple and when you're just about buzzed, go outside and enjoy the view. It's definitely worth while to check out this scenic bar. read more

Great rooftop with great city views only! Unless things improve, I would only go back for a glass of wine or beer (if you drink beer, I don't) on a nice day or night to enjoy the rooftop. The mixed drinks were horrible! I got a whiskey sour and my husband got an old fashioned, both were below par. They do have a decent wine list by the glass. We ordered food a flat-bread and calamari. Both were sub par to say the least. We had to stand in line for about 10-15 mins, but it wasn't crowded when we got upstairs. I really don't like when places do this. The music was good, but the music was good everywhere the night we went, b/c unfortunately it was the night that Prince died. No sure how it would be on other nights. I hope Mr. Purple makes changes to improve the drinks and food, b/c the space is beautiful and a nice add to the LES, but missing the quality I expect from this type of establishment. read more

Saturday evening looking for a spot to eat in LES. Checked YELP to see the closest restaurants near us and decided to stop by Mr. Purple, located in the Indigo Hotel, 180 Orchard Street. Just opened up about a month ago or so November 2015. It's named after long time alphabet city resident and activist Adam Purple. Cocktails were good, mussels were delicious and staff was very friendly and the view is beautiful! I recommend it. read more

Who ever was working at around 5:15pm on 6/1/19 in the hotel front lobby was very rude to us. We already had wristbands from earlier and were confused about lines and the men were SO rude to us...they were in my face when I was trying to have a civilized conversation and were very unprofessional and very rude. They then proceeded to kick us out for trying to have a conversation about why they were yelling at us. Your business lost hundreds of dollars from us this evening for their unprofessional acts. read more

Mr. Purple is probably the worst rooftop I have ever been to. Yes, the view once you get up there is nice and all, but not worth the absolute terrible experience that you have to deal with to see the view. My friends were visiting NYC this past weekend and we have been to many rooftop bars around the city. We have never been to this one and it was Saturday night so it's understandable that there would be a wait to get in. I asked the bouncer at the door how long it would be and he told us about an hour. Great, we get in line. Let me tell you about this particular line. We only moved because people got fed up and left. Moving from the back of the line to the front in a room that was probably the size of an average Dunkin' Donuts took two hours from 12:30 to 2:30 in the morning. They let people go in immediately if you had a "reservation" meaning you're paying for bottle service. It was also clear that if you're friends with the bouncer, you'll get in immediately as well. Once we got to the front, the host asked us how many people were in our group. We were also asked if our group were all girls or not. We had a couple guys with us so apparently that didn't make her want to let us in until 45 minutes later, even though we were at the front of the line. We finally get through, into the elevators, up to the 15th floor at 2:30AM. It wasn't packed upstairs at all so we were very confused as to why the wait was so long. Oh wait, guess what? We weren't allowed to go outside. They closed off the outside roof top and everyone had to stay indoors. No where on their website did they ever indicate when their outside area would close. At this point we're fed up, we waited over two hours, we made it upstairs, but it was clear people left because we're basically at a typically nothing special bar. We decide that we're going to get one drink and leave. Nope, we got to the bar and the bartenders make eye contact with you and don't even bother to help you. Instead they're more busy chatting with their coworkers. We waited 15 minutes and left because it was ridiculous. When we got back down, we realized they had a huge exit on the other side. Everyone left through that exit, not where original line was so you never saw people leaving, you only saw people getting in. Tricky huh? Again, why did we wait two hours?¿ To sum up my review, Mr. Purple, if you're trying to become the next great bar, DO BETTER. Stop trying to make yourself seem busier than you are with a line that makes people wait 2 hours when the bar upstairs isn't even busy. Also, if your outside area is closed, TELL PEOPLE. Don't waste everyone's time and ruin their night by letting them blindly wait to get into a rooftop and then not be allowed to go outside. To my fellow roof top lovers, don't waste your time. It was definitely not worth it. There are plenty of other bars that will treat you better. read more

BEST bagel I ever had and I eat bagels every day! On a cloudy saturday morning, after a long night of drinking, I was craving bagels. So we decided to check out Russ& Daughters but the waiting time for a table was insane. So we ended up at Mr. Purple, and we tried out the coffee place at the lobby with fascinating city view. Fresh bagels, croissants, nice herbal tea selection and for sure, GOOD coffee, what else can a man in his 20s ask for? So I went for a everything bagel with butter, since the coffee place actually belongs to the hotel you need to toast the bagel by yourself which lifts the whole experience to another level (14th Floor btw. dear only reader Nick) After hard labor and some drops of sweat, my bagel was ready to get buttered. At this point congratulations to the man behind the toaster, aka myself, who managed it not to burn the bagel. So I grabbed a seat by the window and had a first bite with a fantastic view over the LES and as already mentioned BEST BAGEL EVER! I recommend this place to everyone who loves bagels as much as I do. I will be back! read more

They also destroyed her birthday cake. They literally shoveled all of us into the elevator which was totally unnecessary. Overall, it was such an unpleasant experience. Randomly ended up in this place in the middle of week, which is good because I would never wait for the (famously) 2 hours long line outside for an overpriced and under-boozed drink. That said, the spot is really sweet because the views of Manhattan are just perfect!! Absolutely love this place. I was blown away with the service that Mr. Miles and Mr. Nereo provided to me and my large group. I was given a great table outside near the pool and view of Manhattan. With such a group the servers got to everyone and made some special drinks, going above and beyond. In addition, needed some snacks for the group and were able to get me food right before the kitchen closing! The service was 11/10!! I'm a huge fan and definitely will return! read more

Booked a reservation because was told we had to but did not receive confirmation. Arrived to not being in the system although we had already paid.... while this issue was trying to be resolved a couple walked right in, paid and got seated at the pool. Finally we got situated to arrive outside to no distancing measures being taken and little kids in the small pool. It might be hot outside but I am not paying money to enter a small pool filled with 4 people and a small patio with 4 different groups- the right measures for COVID need to be taken asap at this place! This spot was really nice and a lot of fun! Super cool layout and interior, has a beautiful rooftop section that's open and has a gorgeous views of nyc. Music was so good too, there was a little mix of everything & the dj knew how to set the right mood. Drinks were good and refreshing, i had the cucumber lemonade and it was super good! Also tried a strawberry drink that was similar and it was equally as good. Love the crowd and just people watching here, and it's such a spacious venue! I had a really great time here, loved the music, loved the ambience and vibes, a lot of people just having a good time and mingling and meeting some new people- lots of fun. The place is really nice, love the decor and outside area +views of the city. Drinks are good, and so was the food! Tried their burger which was solid and their pizza which was ok- lacked a bit of flavor but the fries made up for it! Def recommend this spot for a happy hour, an intimate night out or even just the bar where a group of friends go to for a good time! Our food service was a little slow but our server was super nice and apologetic about it, so i def appreciate that. Drinks by the inside bar are quick and easy to get tho! 2 separate busser/cocktail waitresses put their hands on me to forcefully shove me out of their way unnecessarily. Not a push past, not an excuse me while pushing through, but literally shoved me as if we were going to fight. I was raining and windy water was on the floor if I didn't bump into somebody both times I would have fallen and possibly hurt my ankle. Would have been a lawsuit. Ruined my whole experience, all other staff was fine there was black cocktail/busser girl who did not have to push me and was respectful and normal. In fact everyone else in the establishment was wonderful from security to bartenders.if they had not physically hurt me I would have had an amazing time other than he fact that the crowd wasn't very lively. Absolutely terrible management. Made reservations here for me and my friend, under my name and my cc. The actual night of, my friend offered to pay for both our drinks and I gladly accepted. Next morning, saw on my bank statement an unexplained charge of $30 from mr.purple. Called twice during stated business hours, left voicemails; no response. Finally took it up with my bank, and was just informed that the bar, despite not responding to my queries, did have time to dispute my claim that the charge was illegitimate. Just astounding. And to think these people have my cc info. Nothing more to add, the best drink in the world isn't worth the outright fraud they pull here. UPDATED TO ADD: according to my bank, they claim that the $30 was a fee they charge JUST for the immense pleasure of simply MAKING A RESERVATION to come here. My friends and i were waiting in line as per usual on a Friday night, June 1st. Out of nowhere we were told not to wait because we would not get in no maybe what: we attempted to pursue the matter but the bouncers would not provide an explanation. Pros: The view is incredible!! We took so many cute pictures. All the furniture was stylish and clean, the music was fun. The cocktails were good, I got a frozen spiked hot chocolate which was super yum. Cons: The heated area outside was reserve only which costs $1k to rent. A lot of the tables and couches that we sat at randomly made us move because they became reserved so there wasn't much seating for anyone. In general it was packed but not enough room. The drinks were definitely on the pricier side, my cocktail was ~$20. Tricky to locate because it's inside of a hotel. Overall, the view definitely makes it worth it!! read more

Views, views, views. Your view of the skyline is superb, with a gorgeously tiny (guest-only) pool decorating the forefront as you take in the midtown skyline, while enjoying your cocktails. This place feels ultra cosmopolitan. Definitely on the high end for LES with $16 special cocktails, but nothing unheard of in this city. A choice of 3 draft beers ~$7 per offers a less expensive way to take it all in. This place is busy almost any warm afternoon, weekday or weekend. It is pretty big, with two large outdoor spaces and a similarly sized indoor. I have been told this place can be massive pain to get into at night, so be prepared if you venture here at night. read more
