A few of my colleagues wanted to link for dinner in the Druid Hills area before the holidays, so we decided on Ms. Icey's. I heard mostly positive things about this restaurant from a few family members, so I was curious to check it out. This Caribbean/Southern fusion spot is located as the anchor of a strip mall with other restaurants next door. The great thing is that there is plenty of parking. We came on a Saturday evening; thankfully it was not crowded, so we were able to sit down immediately. Food: I ordered the stewed chicken wings which comes with plantains and jasmine rice. I also ordered a side of roasted brussel sprouts. The wings were very good, falling off the bone tender. I also loved the flavoring of the rice, and the plantains were perfectly sweet. I was not a big fan of the brussel sprouts. They had a thick honey sauce on them that was overpowering, and they were very soft in texture. The positive side is that they give you a ton of food for the price. Service: There weren't many staff working this evening from what I could see. Our server greeted us promptly and checked on us several times before we ordered food. Once we ordered our food, it honestly went down hill. It just took extremely long to get anyone's attention for help. It also took close to 30 mins just to get our check. When the check came, they initially said they couldn't split it and added an automatic 20% gratuity. On their site, it says they do that for parties of 4 or more, but we were only a party of 3. The manager let the server split the check, but they would not remove the gratuity. I always tip well, so it wasn't the end of the world, it was just the principle for me. While I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come back here, I might consider checking them out again for brunch. read more

Ms Icey's staff appears to not be aware of their hours of operation. My friend made a reservation for Sunday at 5 PM. They reached out to confirm if she was still coming and she confirmed. We arrived there just before the reservation time to be told they were closing. If that was the case why accept the reservation and then confirm it. Just moving here from the Hollywood area, good food is a necessity. We have spent our past few years in the hands of Nancy Silverton so Michelin star taste is always a desire. I have to say before I went, I already knew what I wanted to try because I checked out the menu days before. There are really good options to choose from. FIRST OFF, the appetizers were so good. The Mac and cheese, the cornbread and Brussels sprouts were all good. We left no crumbs. My friend got the oxtails and he loved them. I got the "THEE SALAD" topped with shrimp and it was delicious. My friends and I got seated right away at 5 pm on a Friday. There are seats available for indoor and outdoor. For appetizers we shared mini beef patties & hot peppa shrimp. Both were well seasoned with the patties being juicy but also definitely mini (half the size of my palm). I would have liked the shrimp to have more garlic and less oil in my personal opinion. For entrees we tried their nene's etouffee, grandma's oxtail, jerk chicken and jerk steak & frites. Sides included dosas and plantains (sweet). I was disappointed with the etouffee as I love seafood and it looked just like gumbo but it missed the smokeyness and a deeper flavor palate. Oxtails were pretty aromatic and salty. I thought the chicken was overly blacked as I tasted more char than meat. Steak sauce was tasty but seemed to be prepared well instead of medium. Dosas were a little dry and crumbly. Plantains were good though, sweet and soft. Overall, we had a good experience. Dishes were either pretty good or not really. This place is located in a strip mall and finding parking is extremely hard. The lot is too small and the venues are too busy. They will not sit parties until everyone arrives and I like that. They also have a DJ playing some good music. This is a nice brunch location. Seems like the location is more for Social Media pics than food. The quality of this experience has declined for us. We went in with a group for a 7pm birthday dinner on a Friday night. The parking lot was pretty full, but it was still easy enough for us to find a spot. Our group of nine was able to be seated quickly as there were many open tables. The menu is contactless with QR codes at the tables. There are very few options on the menu, and it leaves a lot to be desired. Some of the less adventurous eaters at the table had a hard time finding something to order. I was ecstatic to see the "roast fish" on the menu once I realized that it was a Bronzino. I excitedly ordered it and talked it up to the entire table. Thus, I was so disappointed when our server came out to let me know that the kitchen was out of fish. She was super apologetic as she asked me to choose something else from the menu. I ended up eating the jerk steak and frites, with the steak ordered medium. I was nervous that it would be too spicy as I don't typically eat jerk, but the sauce was like jerk mixed with some type of cream sauce, which cut the spice. I really enjoyed the sauce. The steak needed seasoning. The fries were okay; they were crisp and well-seasoned...I just prefer a thicker cut fry and was expecting it to be thicker based on previous yelp pictures. Toward the end, our server brought me out a shot (pictured with lime) as an apology on the house about the fish mix up. I also ordered the coconut rum punch because I'm recently into trying things with coconut cream in them. It was okay. I probably would have preferred the coconut mojito, and will try that if I'm ever back here. Hubby at the oxtails with greens and plantains. I thought all of that was good, although the oxtails had a little spice to them. The greens seemed to have some type of cream sauce on them too, which I surprisingly liked a lot. I loved the oxtail gravy even though I only had about two bites, but hubby said he didn't care for it. We probably should have traded plates! All in all, this place always has great service and a welcoming vibe. The food is hit or miss though. Also, the group was surprised at the end to learn that the water we were drinking $6/bottle. The water came out as shared bottles and was replaced as it emptied throughout the meal. It was never mentioned that we'd be charged for it. I dined at Ms. Icey's during a Mingle Experience event. The food and service was amazing. We ordered the chicken and waffle and the Thee Salad with fried Fish. The chicken was seasoned well and very flavorful. The waffle is delicious and comes with flavored butter. This is a very filling meal. The Thee Salad with fried fish was top tier. I loved the cajun seasoning that it is seasoned with. The only reason I gave a 4 is because I asked for caesar dressing instead of the normal dressing and it was not replaced and also I wish there were more tomatoes and onions in the salad. I decided to hit up brunch at Ms. Icey's with an old friend that I had not seen since early 2021 yesterday. And this was a great choice! Upon entering the restaurant, I was reminded how I love the decor inside of the restaurant and great music was playing throughout Ms. Icey's. After being seated at a booth table, we were greeted by our server which I'm not going to mention her name in this review. She asked if we wanted anything to drink and told us the menu was a scanned QR code. We noticed it was very chilly in the restaurant and the temperature outside was already a frigid 30 degrees. We asked if we could move by the one heating lamp near the patio and she said yes. She walked away and did not assist with moving our water glasses nor appetizer plates. There were a total of four other tables being served and she had our table and another table, therefore she was not overwhelmed with assisting guests. Our server had an attitude as of she didn't want to be there. When we asked about the heat she said it was not working the fan was only blowing. Honestly, we probably should have left but had already ordered our drinks. We ordered Jerk Salmon and the Jerk burger. Our sides were Mac & Cheese, Rice and Peas, Kale, Potatoes, and Plantains. My friend wanted brown stewed chicken but was told it was sold out. Our drinks were the Link Up and Passion Ginger Martini. When the Link Up cocktail arrived it should have come garnished with blueberries. The server was clueless when asked about the missing blueberries and said it was a purée not fresh blueberries. So incredibly flavorful without being salty. You could tell they used a lot of salt alternative spices. My only wish was that the fish was fried a little less hard. Decided to try this place out after seeing it on TikTok and I'm glad I did! Went with a group of friends at around 9 on a Saturday and we were seated rather quickly. Everyone raves about the cornbread skillet so we tried it and I'm glad I did! It is definitely more sweet than I had expected--it gives more dessert than appetizer so that is something to note. I ordered the curry goat which I was nervous about because a lot of places skimp out on goat in curry but this dish had a lot! One thing to note is that sides such as rice and peas do not come with the entree, so it is an extra charge. We got the NYC Nutcracker as a drink and it was good as well. Ok...let's get into it. The ambiance is 10/10 - I am a NYer and they hit the nail on the head with their authentic decor. The vibe here was a 10/10 as well! Just a heads up - they do not take same day reservations. During our wait we just enjoyed the DJ. His name was DJ Supreme and he was excellent at getting the crowd rocking! Drinks 10/10 - we did one of their promos where you get 2 bottles of champagne with 4 flight mixers. The flight mixers were orange juice, honeysuckle, blossom and another mix. Two were infused with hard alcohol. It was delicious! The honeycomb was my favorite. My service was really good although they were extremely busy. Not the servers fault but you could tell they were overwhelmed. The staff here dances to the music and will interact with different tables. Like I said...great vibes! Lastly the food, we had the strip clubs wings and cornbread to start, the fish and grits, fried branzino, curried veggies, traditional breakfast and the pork chops. We initially ordered the shrimp and grits and oxtail but they came back and said they ran out. The strip club clubs wings were ok. Not bad at all but nothing to write home about. The cornbread was delicious and came with a berry jam. The branzino was supposed to be escovitch style but it tastes like a traditional fried fish. I would give it an 8/10. The fish and grits were inedible for me. The grits were good but they have almost an entire bowl of sauce for a cup of grits so the grits were floating aimlessly. The fish was very over cooked. It looked burned to me. They took it back but said they normally don't accept food returns. Oh and the pork chops should immediately be removed from the menu. They were thin, overcooked and dry. Ms. Icey's is always a vibe. It's a great place to take friends for brunch if they're visiting from out of town. I had the shrimp etoufee which was really just shrimp & grits. I was expecting rice but it was still good never the less. Our waitress was super nice; some of the items took a while to come out but she kept us updated. The DJ kept us dancing in our seats. I went there in November as this is my favorite go to spot for some steak frites. I was so excited to get it but shortly when my food came out, I realized they had crinkle cut fries instead of steak fries which they normally have. This may be nit picky but as a customer, I expect consistency across the board. This really made me a bit upset, especially since I was not given a heads up before I ordered. I did eat the steak because that was very tasty but I was very turned off by the fries. The restaurant is a great one, they have amazing vibes and great sorrel but I wish there was more disclaimers and consistency when it comes to the food. This place had a great atmosphere, customer service was excellent the entire time we were there. I give it 4 stars because, I was dissatisfied with my food. It did not have much flavor. The other ppl that I was there with ordered their strip club chicken wings and they enjoyed it. But two of us ordered the country breakfast and were very disappointed with the lack of flavor and salt (which I'm not a salty person). I had heard such great things about Ms. Icey's and finally made our way in for an early Friday evening dinner. We did not make a reservation and had no trouble being seated right away. Luckily also found a parking spot right out front. It helps that Buena Gente and Pyng Ho are closed, because I could see how this parking lot fills up fast. I could also tell this was the kind of place that would get crowded as the night goes on and probably for brunch. There were so many things I wanted to try, but ultimately we decided to split the thee salad+fried fish, jerk steak and frites, and a dessert. The fried fish was really delicious, but I found the salad itself to be a bit overdressed with vinaigrette. I'm sure I could have asked for the dressing on the side. The steak was super tender and with the most amazing sauce. What they were calling "frites" is a bit different from my definition, and those that were on the thinner side. Don't expect steak fries. I can't remember the dessert we had, I had a few bites and my bf gobbled the rest up. Our server Shun(sp?) was so sweet and helpful. She explained that they make their hot sauce in house (she had made the batch that we were eating) and it is also available for purchase, which we did! For drinks I had the Guava Peach Paloma and he had the NYC Nutcracker which was interestingly served in a small plastic bottle. It both looked and tasted a bit like the juices you would buy at the farmers market. Appreciated the creativity on both drinks. The inside decor is very stylish with a hip vibe and fun music. read more
