My mother-in-law will send us cakes here from Inglewood, Ca. and the cakes are just as fresh as if I went to pick up the cake at the bakery. I went here with the restaurant.com GC (gift certificate) and was expecting to fill up and have some dessert too. When i first showed up they looked at the GC like it was a search warrant and i was asking to see the recipe books. After that debacle was taking care of i ordered 2 catfish dinners 1 shrimp dinner sides were fries /red beans and rice/ potato salad( which i was assured was really good!) / and 2 slices of red velvet cake. which i was told that the gc was not really supposed to be used for. THE GOOD. the fries are seasoned well. they are soft but not soggy very good. the shrimp is hella good! also they cook ur order on the spot so the food is really fresh. however there is no a/c in the place so wait outside or comback in like ten minutes. THE BAD the catfish tasted too fishy. (yes i know how catfish is supposed to taste) the red beans and rice didn't have any flavor, at all. i thought i was having a nightmare. THE UGLY so like i said i used the gc to purchase my food and how it works is that the tip is included in the final price. i even tipped the place 3 on top of that because i felt guilty... So i went today to check this place out people have been talking about and Yelpers. i ordered a cheeseburger meal and red velvet cake. Hamburger was ok definitely is big enough to feed two people which is great but i had a problem with the saltiness of the burger. it was very salty and the mustard and pickles made it saltier but not a bad burger overall. so i mind you its barely 12pm and i was able to grab the last slice of red velvet cake the cake is awesome and moist i see why they cant keep it on the shelf. pricing was awesome a cheeseburger fries soda and a big piece of cake was only 9 bucks you cant beat that. the place is a bit small enough for maybe 3 people to eat in i had to stand in line outside to order my food. read more

The cake is dense and moist (a necessity) and the cream cheese frosting has the perfect balance of sweetness (not too much powdered sugar as a lot of places can screw up with). I have definitely gone and ended up disappointed because it was closed during regular business hours, but don't let this deter you! We live about 30 to 45 with traffic from the bakery but I won't mind the drive to get bomb cake wow so good! I wish this bakery was open for longer. When I go to work, it isn't open and when I come back, it is already closed. Maybe, instead of 11:00 - 7:00, they could make it 9:00 - 8:00. In the few times that I have been there and bought a bucketload of items, I have had one of the best pastries in my entire life. The crust and the icing on all the cakes are just in the zone. The crust is right between not too brittle and not too moist and the icing is right between not to sweet and creamy and not too tasteless. Their hamburgers too are delicious. I'm not a huge fan of bread but my wife is and she loves the bread available here. The store treats its customers like family and yet is very professional. So go ahead - visit the store. read more

Well, I reside in Inglewood and have heard and read good things about this tiny place so today I stopped by as I was starving and it was right across the street from where I was. Parked my car and walked in to order a Turkey burger with bacon and a fried egg. YUM! Burger was not dry, made to order and it came with fresh cooked fries. Only two tables and both were taken but my order was to go. Others came in to order their desserts which included the red velvet cake. I'll be back to try their tacos, burritos, wings. Unbelievably good red velvet cake!! We hilariously happened upon Ms Ruby's immediately after having lunch at a healthy, vegan restaurant on Market. As we made the turn back on Manchester we couldn't help noticing a sign declaring, "We Specialize in Red Velvet Cake" at which point we decided undoing all of the good-for-us food we had was well worth it. I failed to mention two minutes before finding this gem that we had proclaimed we were going to be vegan for a while. Well, that lasted 3 blocks. Back to the point, we got a spot right out front, (the meters give you 30 minutes for a quarter! Exciting in itself) walked in and they had three things for sale..... triple layer red velvet cake wrapped in plastic wrap, personal pans of pecan pie, and what looked like coffee cake, but the the man said was "sock-it-to-me" cake. I was sure he was messing with me, until I looked it up. I bought it regardless, and plan on trying it tomorrow morning for breakfast! Oh, and when my friend asked if they made red velvet cupcakes, the reply was, "MMMM hmmm." Awesome. When got back to the house, and the three of us devoured the huge slice in what felt like seconds, and loved it. This blows away any red velvet cake I've had in Los Angeles, and by far the most fluffy and moist (without being oily, if you know what I mean), and the flavor of the icing was perfectly balanced, not too sweet, with a perfect cake to icing ratio. A lovely surprise especially after my last two red velvet experiences, a cupcake from The Bright Spot, and a cake from Gelson's, both of which tasted like chemicals. Stopped by because I was in the area. I ordered a fish lunch, I pulled out my card to pay, and was informed that there was a $1.00 service charge for using any type of card...BOOO!! The fish needed some seasoning and was a bit too greasy. What really did it, I took a forkful of greens and they had a sweet taste to them, something tells me that they used the spoon they use to make their cakes with to spoon out my greens...they need to decide if they want to be a fish place or a bakery...I won't be returning to Ms. Ruby's anytime soon... read more
