Food is fine, drinks are a bit pricy. But they need to lock their outdoor dining structure when they're not open. I live nearby and always see junkies shooting up and passed out in it. I was really stoked to try this place last week, but the experience was pretty disappointing. The decor was very nice and the staff was all helpful and friendly, but the food was pretty much all lackluster. We had the shrimp burger, the Korean fried chicken, and the kimchi fried rice. The burger was probably the best of the three, but honestly nothing was memorable. The space is clearly more geared towards being a club, anyone coming for the menu beware. read more

a bit of upscale, K-Town flavor in the middle of Allen St, started by people who are obviously Korean American and whose goal is to create an interesting fusion experience, pleasing both people looking for a hip, trendy place to eat and also looking for Korean-ish food. I learned about this place watching an Eater video where they fry an entire chicken. Sadly, speaking with the maitre d', they took that off the menu but promised it would be back late spring, early summer after some tweaks were performed. I believe we got a sashimi salad, pork belly ssam, and a bunch of cocktails. Cocktails were really nice. Price is as you would expect for "trendy LES", no more no less. I'm happy that Asian Americans are finding a way to create a product that tries to provide value for everyone without throwing their own culture under the bus. While Korean food has always been somewhat expensive, I'm overall happy for the idea that Asian foods gain repute in the US, and can begin charging upscale prices for them. Ms. Yoo seems like a sustainable version of that idea tuned to the hip, LES club crowd. It feels like this is "Tao" (from Las Vegas) done right. Wanna go replace that shitty restaurant, Ms. Yoo? I like visiting fellow female chefs so quickly decided to purchase a Pulsd deal when I saw Chef Yoo's restaurant which just opened up in the LES. Reservation was easy and they were very clear about what included and excluded in the voucher. They also allow two vouchers a table which is good for a 4 group gathering. Atmosphere wise, not quite clear what's going on upstairs but music got loud here and there. The front door can use a bit more welcoming feel - right now it's just a regular door to a store. Perhaps adding a velvet curtain or something like that. Now to the food, a bit on the pricier side but they are generously portioned, or 'sharable plates' as referred to on the menu. The prawns - very good, really like the garlicky sauce. The carrot purée spread was cold, wishes it was hot or warm at least. The bone marrow - good but aside from the bacon kimchi it is not that special. Ms Yoo's Sliders - it's like 2 burgers really. I didn't taste it but I'd order it next time to go with drinks. Bo Ssam platter - HUGE. Must order if you come here. I also enjoyed is the fact the pork is hot and some has crispy skin. Oh and of course the fried pork skin! Beautiful presentation and of cruise it's great, how can it not?! The platter has all texture, taste and also carb free. Angus steak - the priciest item on the menu. Tender and the crack sauce is quite good. I'd say on its own it would be great but it was pale in comparison next to the Bo Ssam. We ordered way to much but it was because we had the Pulsd deal. I would say two/three items will feed 4 plenty. And you can always order more. Service is just ok. When the bar was bustling with customers I think they forgot about us. Beautiful ambiance? Yes. Good food? Yes. Service? Awful. I went to Ms. Yoo's last Saturday for brunch with a good friend. We were excited to go because of their Instagram pics and Yelp reviews. I was very intrigued by their hour & a half of boozy brunch, which include mimosa & soju. I had the Matcha pancakes, they were delicious, and my friend had the KFC Sandwich, which she enjoyed. Everything was great until our hour & half of boozy drinks were up. At that time, we were presented with the check, and we still had a 1/2 of a full carafe of mimosa left. After paying the check, another waitress who was not our waitress earlier came over to 'clear the table' and removed the 1/2 full carafe from the table as well. I was very confused and asked if we could not move to the bar with the carafe, to which she responded- 'I can fill your glasses, but that's it'. I was shocked. What was the point of that? I would think you're only going to pour out the rest. Maybe she did not. Maybe that went to another table. Either way, it was odd. I would have been happy to move to the bar and finish the carafe with my friend. Regardless, I would not recommend brunch at Ms. Yoo's, nor will I ever return. There are other restaurants in the neighborhood with better food, better ambiance, and way better service. read more

Let me preface this review by saying this place is not somewhere I would normally choose. However, we missed our reservation at our original spot and it was nearby to where we were. We booked quickly on open table and when we got there found that Open Table was having issues and had overbooked the restaurant - so we had to sit at the bar, which is also not my favorite thing to do. However, the bar tender was super friendly and very attentive (she even gave us a couple free shots) and the food was actually soo good! I'll definitely be back for those two reasons alone. Something else that was a little strange, they were having some kind of college frat party upstairs so it was REALLY loud. It was entertaining if nothing else. Give it a shot if you're into the asian fusion situation. Oh - also very cheap! I think we each ended up spending less than $40 including alcohol. read more

Disclaimer: Ms. Yoo is a Korean fusion spot to enjoy drinks and shared dishes rather than an authentic Korean restaurant. Solid menu and cocktails but drinks definitely on the pricier side. They encourage family-style ordering with larger dishes. If the cozy & chic aesthetic of the interior doesn't give you that impression upfront, it'll be obvious once you look at the menu and get your water poured from old brass-cladded champagne bottles. We came on a Thursday night and it was still pretty empty between 8-10pm. Our group ordered the Pork Belly Bossam, KFC, Foie Gras Bibimbap, Fried Calamari, Shishito Peppers, and Tteok n Cheese (very similar to a mac n cheese). We were able to try all 6 cocktails, with my favorite being Stairway to Heaven. Notes: 1. Pork Belly Bossam - 3 stars. Don't underestimate the size of this huge platter. We ordered 4 dishes + this to share between a group of 4 and were stuffed. The dish wasn't anything special but could feed an army. 2. KFC - 3 stars. I always love a good platter of Korean Fried Chicken. Crunchy, saucy, and tender. You're allowed on flavor but you can always get the gochujang on the side to dip. 3. Foie Gras Bibimbap - 2 stars. For the price, I expected more flavor and at least a more traditional sizzling doslot presentation. There was a very small serving of foie compared to the amount of rice. 4. Tteok N' Cheese - 4 stars. You really can't mess up rice cakes and cheese right? 5. Shishito Peppers - 3 stars. Overly oiled! Overall was not super impressed with the food but enjoyed the ambiance and drinks (even if they were a little pricey). There is supposed to be a decent happy hour (5-7pm weekdays) so I would recommend trying it then since it's a tad cheaper. read more

Many new Korean fusion restaurants have been popping up all over NYC and so for my friend's birthday, she wanted to try out a place that she hadn't been to before. Our one problem that we kept running into is how difficult it is to get a reservation for groups larger than four people in the city. Many establishments just don't accept any groups larger than 6 and if they do, they make you give accept a prix-fixe menu or they charge you for no shows. We were fortunate to find Ms Yoo which was more than kindly accepting of our reservation (easily done from the convenience of Open Table), and we were especially excited to try this place since Ms Yoo is by the same person as Mokbar. When we arrived, we were surprised to see how empty the restaurant was for a Saturday night. This should have told us right away what our experience might be like... however, we wanted to be gracious and open minded since it hasn't been around very long. What was nice to the start to our evening was that when a few members of our party arrived early, they seated us right away instead of making us wait for the entire party to arrive. We began the night with drinks and cocktails from the bar - don't let the off sounding Korean details fool you into thinking they won't be delicious. While they initially sound off putting and like they're trying too hard to infuse Korean elements into the drinks, they were all successfully orchestrated and fabulous. However, we can't say the same for the food. We wanted to start off with their Shishito Peppers, only to be told that they had three large parties the night before and so they had already run out of that appetizer for the entire weekend. So instead for an appetizer we tried the Deviled Eggs and the Spiced Edamame. The Devil Eggs were a huge let down - nowhere could be find even a hint of kimchi, and the bacon that was there were packaged bacon bits... they couldn't even make their own bacon bits? They were your standard, plain old deviled eggs you could find for Sunday brunch anywhere. As for the Spiced Edamame - you could find the exact same thing at any Japanese sushi restaurant and the would probably be better. For our entrees, we decided to go family style and we shared the following: 1. Calamari & Squid Fries (rings of calamari deep fried in plain batter and dried Korean squid you eat as a snack covered and fried in plain batter) 2. KFC (Korean Fried Chicken which isn't worth trying... you can get better tasting and better bang for your buck as well from your local Korean fried chicken chain) 3. Tteok N' Cheese (which was a great concept - mac and cheese but with Korean rice cakes... unfortunately the cheese was gritty as the rue and the cheese were not properly combined together making for an unappetizing dish) 4. Foie Gras Bibimbap (The hot stone bowl was neither hot or sizzling so there was no burnt rice at the bottom which a bibimbap served in a stone bowl should have, and where was the foie gras? It was basically the type of bibimbap you could pick up from a very American bibimbap stand at Whole Foods) 5. Steak Frites (It was your standard steak that was cut into strips with the driest taro fries I have ever eaten. The fries didn't even come with a dipping sauce) While the food was completely disappointing, we did have a nice server who did his best to try to make the evening great for us, and we were served complimentary lychee shots (which were delicious) since we were celebrating a birthday. Additionally, the French atmosphere was pleasant and all of the employees from the bartenders to the wait staff and bus boys were efficient. Ultimately, I would never return for the food, but for a quick drink I would totally be game. Too bad, because my friends and I had high expectations for Ms Yoo. Maybe as time passes they'll work out their kinks with the food. read more

So so SO cute! I was able to arrange a last minute birthday dinner for 8 girls on a Saturday night and was so pleased we ended up coming here. The decor is beautiful, the service was very attentive and accomodating, and everyone loved the food and the drinks. I had been itching to try this place out as I wowed by Esther Choi's Chelsea Market stall. Now I'll admit I was expecting this place to be a bit more Korean focused like Mokbar but instead it's more American with a Korean twist. When you're at a loss for descriptive words for how outstanding a burger is, you know something is being done very right. After ever single bite, I thought about nothing else, other than the bite. The kimchi bacon jam is something you don't get to experience at just any restaurant. Thought goes into flavor development like that. The burger itself stays juicy and flavorful throughout. And the bun, it hold up, it doesn't get soggy. Can you say anything negative about that?? The nori popcorn is packed with flavor - almost a perfect balance of sweet, salty, savory, it should be packaged and sold for a great snack on the go. Ask for the kimchi ketchup, the bite it has is perfect. The cocktails, yum. I couldnt stop at just one "i ms yoo", so I had two. (They have a cake cutting fee, FYI and didn't tell us about this fee. $3/pp) We had reservations, but the restaurant was relatively empty. Food was really great. We tried just about everything on the menu and the food didn't disappoint. I'd say the bossam board and the volcano kimchi fried rice were my personal favorites. The drinks were STRONG. $15 for cocktails. Pricey, but it's New York. Service was excellent. Only issue: We brought a cake for my friend's birthday. We were about to slice the cake ourselves, but then the server offered to cut it for us. We agreed and then we got charged $24 in cake cutting fees ($3/pp). I came here to try the food since I had just watched Iron Chef recently. I didn't have a reservation but the staff was super nice and offered to get me a seat to sit at the bar but then they had an opening for a table. I ordered two of the wings to try the different flavors (spicy and soy garlic) and both were very good. They didn't taste too oily and didn't feel to heavy for fried dishes. I got the Shrimp burger which I thought was good, it was very nicely executed but I thought it was a fancy flat shrimp ball from a dim sum Chinese restaurant with aioli on a good quality bun. The Kim Chi Fried Rice was good but probably my least liked dish. The cheese in it didn't do much for me but wasn't bad or good, just felt very neutral about it. Overall the service was excellent and food was solid. Music is a little loud so hard to hear people if you're not close to them. read more

I stopped by Ms Yoo twice after it opened and I gotta say I liked the space and interior of the place. The first time was for a private party upstairs on the second floor and I thought it was cozy and fun. As for the food, I tried their Ms Yoo burger. It was pretty good and their addition of sautéed kimchi was pretty interesting, but nothing to write home about. I was a bit disappointed at their draft beer selection, or lack the of, and some on their beer list weren't even available both times I stopped by. In short, the overall impression I got of the place was that they're not 100% in full swing of things yet since their openning, but liked the spot enough to look forward to stopping by again later on, to hopefully update my review with another star or two. read more

Came to celebrate a friend's birthday on a Sunday. There was no one in the restaurant when we walked in. The decor was nice! The staff was friendly. The food and drinks were more on the expensive side. We ordered drinks and appetizers first. The drinks were small. When I say small I mean 3 regular gulps and there goes the $14. The food is mediocre at best. Our group recently travelled to Korea and experienced genuine Korean food so this was not a bad experience but not average either. The presentation of the food was beautiful but over kill at some point. Too many flags! We ordered a tofu burger and a ms yoo burger and the chicken. Tofu burger was a bit dry. The ms yoo burger was one flavored (all you taste is kimchi). The chicken nicely cooked and presented (pricey $32). I guess they haven't completely thought things through. The chicken came in whole. You physically had to pull it apart yourself. Good gimick but they should've offered bigger plates, disposable gloves, and wet napkins. Overall, a good experience but I would not go back. The food however needs some work - it was a 50:50 hit ratio. Nori popcorn - amazing. The himachi salad - amazing. Squid fries - so tough you were still chewing 10min later, closer to chewy jerky. The tofu burger - tasteless, textureless, just tasted of hard crunchy fried - real let down. And the service whilst lovely was v slow. Came here after having dinner and happy hour at Verlaine just a few blocks away. The bartender was amazing. Even when she didn't think she could make one of the drinks she went in the back to retrieve some missing ingredients and made it for us. The cocktails were all delicious. Gorgeous interior. Fun ambiance. Unique, delicious food. Just a couple of things that pop up into my mind when I think of Ms Yoo. As you walk in, you can feel the elegance and classiness of the design. Whether you're at the bar or at a table, the overall service and attention to detail is very on point. Then you come to the menu. A well thought-out Korean gastropub menu that has everything from a very fresh sashimi salad to fried chicken feet (which was inspired by Asian street-food.. turned elegant). My favorite appetizer was the bone marrow. Bacon Kimchi Onion Jam? May I say more? Korean Dog on Bun was my next go-to dish. People are ridiculous for not understanding the pun in the name of the dish. It's called sense of humor people! The meat was homemade with kimchi deliciousness packed into a pretzel bun. Genius. My friends loved the Tteok 'N Cheese which was a twist on Macncheese but used Korean Ricecakes instead of the noodles on a hot skillet. Perfect with a glass of wine.
