If you are a vegetarian avoid their lunch buffet. We knew before we walked in that they do not have a huge selection of items on their buffet. But, what sucks was the quality of the food. The vegetable manchurian was bad.Huge balls of semi cooked vegetables, semi fried, heavily under seasoned. The one veggie appetizer they had was so bad. Most Indian restaurants however good/bad they are, atleast get the chana masala right. This was beans from a can, hardly any gravy with no taste. The aloo methi and cabbage were decent. The only thing worth paying money for was their jalebi. If I'm paying $40 for two people, atleast some of your dishes should be good. Horrible experience!! We had contracted Mughlai to cater dinner for our daughter's wedding reception; interacted with Mr. Shahbaaz Khan. It was a Buffet setup in 2 different lines supposed to start at 9:30pm and end at Midnight 12:00am. The actual number of guests was less than what we had provided in the contract. Actual Buffet started around 10pm and by 10:25pm they ran out of non-vegetarian food - no goat meat, no prawns, a few spoons of chicken. Bride and Groom did not get any food. My wife and I at 10:25pm got some dal and potato-cauliflower and rice, other items paneer tikka and malai kofta almost ran out. We sought input from several guests after the event, they confirmed similar experience. We had ordered 6 desserts but 3 desserts - Kaju Katli, Milk Cake, and Motichoor Ladoo never saw at the event - guests confirmed the same. At 10:25pm they only had Gulab Jamun and Moong Dal Halwa. We had ordered Mango Kulfi - there was no mango kulfi, instead they served some mango pulp/liquid in a flimsy small cup, even that had run out. When asked, guests said - what mango kulfi, there was no mango kulfi!! When we had gone for paid food tasting, they had given us proper mango kulfi but at the actual event we got something not even remotely resembling or tasting like a kulfi! We never bargained on the price for the Buffet - whatever they asked we agreed. The SAD thing is that we put our TRUST and FAITH in them for our only daughter's wedding reception thinking that food would be the last thing we would have to worry about. This is cheating/fraud! We have supported Mughlai for several years since they opened in the DFW area. I was disappointed though when we tried their lunch buffet recently. Mughlai , when they opened up, had a distinct taste and superior quality to their kebabs and curries. Well the ambience is very good. Variety is very good as well. Service is good as well. So what is not as good? Basically the food quality was NOT excellent to correspond to the price. Basically you are paying for the ambience. Food is good but NOT excellent. Shrimp was too tough and hard to even cut with a knife. Each dish was different as opposed to being the same "brown" dish. Everything here is a 10/10. I originally planned on coming here a few months ago, but I didn't realize that they're closed on Monday. That was my fault for not checking their hours. Today, I decided to surprise my coworkers some lunch. I called to place a pick up order and from the beginning, I had a great experience. The gentleman on the phone was very courteous and attentive. The order was ready for pick up in 15-20 minutes. When I came by to pick up the food, the aromas from the restaurant smelled amazing! They have buffet during lunch hours. Unfortunately, my line of work doesn't give me the luxury to sit down and eat, unless it's at my desk. Since I was ordering for about 5-6 people, I ordered: a full order of tandoori chicken, 3 orders of garlic naan, 3 orders of rice, and veggie platter from their appetizer selection. The complete order could feed about 8 people. The tandoori chicken can feed at least 4-5 adults. One rice portion is 24 ounces, so 3 cups. 1 naan is a full naan cut in half. The veggie samosas are huge! I'm a girl who normally can eat about 6 samosas in a sitting and I was full after half of one! The naan was fragrant and the rice was delicate and fluffy! I grew up in NYC and it's surrounding boroughs. Needless to say, it was easy to find good Indian good there and since moving to dallas it's been a little bit of a struggle even if I wander out to Irving or such. In any case, I am really happy I found this place! Nothing special decor wise. The wait staff is friendly and fast but not very helpful with picking food or making recs. The drinks are too sweet for me, especially anything that involves mangos. I'm also not entirely sure the alcoholic mango lassi actually has any alcohol in it. Apps- samosa is ok, tiki isn't bad. Plus they give you a ton of papadam and yummy sauce. Mains- love the sag paneer ( but I like creamy paneer not everyone does), malai kofta, tikka masala, and veggie kadai . My favorites were the lamb roghan josh. Had decent naan on the side. Upside,they let you pick spice level. There is even "Indian spicey" but be warmed, even mild has a pretty serious kick. One downside, it's pricey for an Indian place. Really solid food with some standout dishes . I think I'm overly in love with it because it blows the competition out of the water---I'm ok with that! Even though I am in the same area every month since my hair salon is there, I had never stopped in here. We love Indian food but it can be so hit or miss in Dallas. Being so close to the Galleria, the area is a bit chi-chi and pricey so my expectations for the restaurant to be along those lines were high. Stepping into the foyer, it is apparent that it is very cozy, a bit neglected in upkeep, and lacks service direction. Cashier was very friendly when taking my take out order. Wish I had checked it as he missed my veggie order but oh well, we had plenty of food.Ordered the whole tandoori chicken and it was delicious. Side order of Naan along with biranyi rice. All of the food was really good, so that was a happy outcome. Inside the restaurant there is plenty of need to update the decor, it is neglected from the ladies room to the side stations where leftover food, dirty plates, and staff chatting with each other oblivious to the disorganized appearance everywhere. To set the stage, I have eaten at indian establishments all over the US and have eaten at some very fine dining establishment as well as fast casual and hole in the wall type restaurants, in NYC, DC, London, India, middle east. This is without a doubt the best Indian food I've had since living in DFW. I came with 2 friends in the evening, and we did had to wait 25 minutes. It was well worth it, however! The servers are friendly, albeit a bit scattered. Occasionally, I wished that someone would come to fill my water glass. To drink, I had the jolly lassi. It was delicious, and a fun twist on a traditional mango lassi. We couldn't decide between which naan to order for dinner, so we just went with the basket. Best decision ever! Fine Indian Cuisine. This restaurant is located in a shopping center right next to the Dallas Galleria. The parking lot was a good size and had several open spots available. We got here right as they were opening the doors for dinner. We immediately noticed a good amount of people entering shortly after they opened. We walked in to a very clean and nicely decorated Indian restaurant. The host was very friendly and sat us right away. The waitress promptly walked up with waters and asked if we had been here before. She went over the entire menu and answered all of our questions. The service here was quite excellent. We started with one of my favorites which is the Vegetable Samosa. It didn't take long to come out but sadly the inside filling was dry and flavorless. The outside was slightly burnt as well. I will say not a good starter. Usually for an entree I always order the Lamb Curry dish, but this restaurant does not have that on the menu. The waitress recommended I try the Gosht Roghan Josh which she mentioned was very similar to Lamb Curry. I decided to order that and we also ordered the Gosht Vindaloo. The entrees here do not come with rice, the rice is an extra charge with the meals. We also ordered some garlic naan bread. The food did not take long to come out and was presented quite nicely in good sized bowls. The additional rice we ordered was a very generous amount as well. The Garlic Naan came out right after and it was more than enough considering how much food we had at the table. The Gosht Roghan Josh was definitely not Lamb Curry and in my opinion tasted nothing like Lamb Curry. The dish had flavors but not what my taste buds were craving. The Gosht Vindaloo was exploding with flavors though! That is a dish I will order next time at this restaurant. The Garlic Naan bread was hot, fresh and very tasty as well. The service is excellent at this restaurant. The interior is quite nice and the food was good. The Mughlai Fine Indian restaurant had a good upscale environment with great and quick service. We ordered the vegetable pakora. It is a dish of vegetables that have been coated in chickpea flour and fried. They were OK. The Yellow Dahl (lentil) Tadka was also OK. The outstanding disk was the Lamb Keema. It was spiced well and the flavor was great. Overall this is a good restaurant and we would come back. However next time we will order fewer vegetable dishes and more meat dishes. read more

Staying nearby, we (colleague and I) decided to walk from the hotel and check this place out. Firstly, I'd give this 3 stars for service, but... Our waitress was not very good. Bless her. I am not sure if she's new, but she really didn't have much of a clue. I asked of there were any specials, and she opened the menu and pointed at all the tandoori dishes. It wasn't quite what I was looking for, but it's ok. She asked if we wanted rice OR bread.... We wanted rice AND naan, so when we finally got our meal, there was enough rice to feed a family of 4! More than once she wanted to clear the table of plates while we were still eating (though we had paused), so was a little over bearing. I think she came by our table 5-8 times in the space of an hour! I have to admire the effort, and I'm sure she'll get it. OK, the food! I ordered the lamb Rogan Josh (everyone spells is different) with a 3/5 spice. It was spot on. The meat was tender and the spice was really good. My colleague had the chicken tikka masala and also commented that the spice was just as he had hoped and that he enjoyed the flavor. The rice wasn't my favorite, it was only just about cooked, and was borderline undercooked. Mix it with some sauce and ... it was good! I think we beat the rush, because it did get busier as we ate. It was a Thursday night, and by 6pm it was pretty full here, with what appeared to be a large amount of to-go orders also being handled. A great sign. Overall, a good experience, but not perfect.... We came here on a busy Saturday night with a large group and we were seated in their private room, though there were a few other tables in there. It's a nice-looking, large restaurant, though with an odd choice of Italianesque wall hangings in that private room. Service was nice and prompt with frequent water glass fillings - always welcome! I like the sauces served with the papadams, though both were standard fare everywhere I've been. I started with a mango lassi - absolutely lovely, and a good sized portion. They forgot to read their description and instead I got a bland ball of crumbly...I don't what it was (not a donut! couldn't taste lentil!) in bland yogurt. It was fairly awful, really, and we barely touched it. Hubby ordered the Murgh Badam Adark, an uninspired dull chicken soup. Also sounded a LOT better in description! I ordered the lamb Roghan Josh. I normally love this dish...not so here. The sauce could've been a Heinz brown gravy for all I could tell. I also ordered medium spicy, but here that order got changed to "weak sauce". The lamb was fine, though there could've been more. Hubby ordered the chicken Vindaloo - again, could've been the same Heinz brown gravy, and again with no spice whatsoever. Definitely not any vindaloo I've ever tried. Trader Joe's makes better Indian than we got here! I forged on and ordered Rasmalai for dessert. This, though, was pretty damn good and I slurped it all up! I honestly don't know if we were served the wrong things or what. The server seemed to stumble over our orders, so that could've been the case. All I know is that it was fairly dreadful food, though with a couple decent things. The price for lunch buffet has been raised and is quite steep for a Indian buffet when compared to number of food items in the buffet and quality. The owners have been in this business for generations and probably that could justify the premium pricing for buffet. We went to dinner with them on a Friday night and it wasn't too packed but there was a decent number of people there. This is probably one of the best authentic Indian restaurants in town. Everything we ordered was delicious! We ordered many items and shared but I've listed some of my favorites: My husband and I ordered the Murgh Korma and Kashmiri Pulao. I will definitely order it again. My niece ordered the Jhinga Masala Nizami. Mmm! Don't forget to order some Naan. My favorite was rosemary and the garlic but my Dad's favorite was the sesame. I've been going to Mughlai with family and friends for at least a decade. It always has fresh and delicious food, and the service is always good. You should definitely go and check it out for yourself. However, over the past year or so, we've started to feel that the buffet service has simply gotten to be too expensive. It's now $17.50 on the weekends, which we feel is too high. We do not go to Mughlai as often now as a result. We did give Mughlai another shot yesterday and we came away with the same feeling: too expensive for what you get. Two of us ate the buffet for $51.00 after adding a takeaway order of gajar (carrot) halwa for $5.00 plus tax and gratuity. We only drank water. That's $22 to $25 per head when all is said and done. Normally, this might be OK, but when you looked at what Mughlai had on offer at the buffet you see that they offered the lowest cost ingredients: vegetables, tofu, and chicken (murgh). Yesterday, they offered murgh, murgh, murgh, and more murgh. Four different chicken dishes! No lamb, no goat, no beef, no seafood, nothing where the ingredient costs are higher. Yes, all the murgh dishes were delicious, but it was clear that Mughlai was more interested in maximizing profits than offering greater variety or value for the $17.50 that its customers pay. I encourage everyone to eat at Mughlai. It's still one of the best Indian restaurants in North Dallas. At the same time, I encourage Mughlai to add more value to its buffet by offering a wider variety of dishes with higher cost ingredients than vegetables, tofu, and chicken if it wants to continue to charge $17.50 for its buffet. Alternatively, offer all that murgh, vegetables, and tofu at a lower price point than $17.50 so that value and price are better aligned. Have visited Mughlai a few time for business lunch, the place is very inviting and cozy and is effectively setup for their well known lunch buffet. The buffet itself is ok, but a little overpriced in my opinion. The replenishing process is very slow and some of the food can sit there for a while before anyone comes around and switches it or stirs it up to remain fresh. This is one of my most frustrating dining experiences ever...Went there tonight with family with pretty high expectations based on Yelp reviews! My first impression as we walked in was great. Nice decor, not too crowded, but not empty either....The manager greeted us and said he would get the table ready for seven of us, in the meanwhile he told us about restaurants lineage and how they want it to be the best food and ambiance in Dallas. He also warned us that they had a party going on in the back room, so food will be slow. We were okay with it, had planned on a relaxed dinner. To begin with, we got one drink menu to share between all of us and not even the water glasses were filled for more than 10 min, we were done deciding the drinks, appetizers and even entrees but no one bothered to even take the drink orders. There were several staff running around but we did not know who was waiting on us. One of the servers then filled the water glasses for only half of us, the others were filled about 10 min later, without asking if we wanted iced water or not. Then the manager took all our orders at once. All the cocktails were pretty weak, not worth the price. Of the appetizers, Seekh-E-Sikander was excellent, samosas were okay. I did not like the veg kebab much, kind of had an uncooked, mealy taste inside; chutney on the side might have helped the flavor. When the entrees were served, the waiters were constantly asking us to pass the hot dishes containing food and plates and such across the table, because the table placement is too crowded and they did not want to take the effort to remember who ordered what. Overall, the food was just okay...my chicken biryani was bad. Soggy, tasted like boneless chicken curry mixed with rice before serving, The bullet naan, which the manager recommended as flavorful with mint and cilantro on top turned out to be way too spicy...he forgot to mention it also has chopped green chilies with the herbs!! Nothing was outstanding as they boast...and some of the reviewers said. I had better expectations based on the location, decor and prices. In the end, the desserts were not sweet enough and the serving size for kheer is about 6 spoonfuls for $5. One of us had something in his kheer that tasted like garlic clove had fallen in it and when he mentioned it to the manager he said the Chef said it was badam...really? May be a rancid badam? And the total bill after two and half hours of hoping it might get better was $260, with 18% gratuity added. They should be ashamed of the quality of service. We walked in; I was amazed on how this restaurant was decorated. I loved the red/gold theme they had going here. We were seated quickly. I read all the great reviews here and wanted to check out the buffet. I was really disappointed though. I went to the buffet line and only saw limited options on different kinds of chicken. The tandoori chicken was burnt and a little on the dry side. The Murgh chicken had no flavor. All the dishes I tried were bland and had no spice to it. I returned to this place after almost a year and I must say the a-la-Carte menu was so much better and actually delicious. I enjoyed the Mughlai basket bread with the variety of rotis which suited aptly the dal makhani, chicken kurma and mutter paneer. The curries tasted fresh and came piping hot. The paneer was nice and soft filled with flavors. We took an order of the seekh kabab which was super juicy and tasty filled with spices and amazing aroma. The serving was very well timed as well. I really enjoyed the food here this time and would definitely recommend the menu food instead of the buffet.
