One of the best sushi spots I've had a in a while actually. We didn't really do any appetizers and went straight in for the fish. Started off with a couple of hand rolls, we did the crab hand roll and O toro hand roll. Crab hand roll wasn't as impressive, I've had better to be honest. I didn't let that experience ruin it for me because the toro hand roll was delicious. I think they add a piece of mint and it complimented the hand roll. Very crunchy nori wrapper and good rice to fish ratio. For our sushi we started with chu toro tuna, salmon belly, and halibut. Super fresh melt in your mouth quality. Halibut was interesting with the truffle, first time definitely won't be the last. We ended it with red snapper and black snapper. Absolutely amazing, I think the black snapper or the red snapper was slightly charred. It was so good. To say the least, this restaurant was worth it!

The plaza itself is unassuming, and at 7pm on a Thursday, most other businesses in the plaza had closed. The lot was full, so we paid $12 for valet parking across the street. We waited for about 10 minutes for our seats at the bar, and honestly, the bar was so much fun! We sat right in front of our sushi chef and orated our orders directly to him, piece by piece. He was such a jovial soul and made our experience so warm and enjoyable. I was very impressed not only with his ability to make sushi but the attention and care he paid to his customers. For example, he noticed that I especially enjoyed the fattier cuts of fish such as ootoro and salmon toro, so when I ordered yellowtail, he recommended that I try the kanpachi toro instead. It was a great recommendation, and in that moment, I felt so seen. The chefs here are truly masters of their craft, both in sushi making and hospitality. In total, I had the toro, salmon, unagi, scallops, kanpachi, salmon toro, and kanpachi toro. Every piece of nigiri I had was very fresh and delicious. My favorite pieces of sushi had to be the toro. You actually get two different cuts of toro with one order, chuutoro and ootoro which are medium fatty and full fatty respectively. Each piece was so delicious and indulgent, I don't know if I can choose a favorite. I had a wonderful experience at Sushi Gen, and I think that sitting at the bar was way more fun than what sitting at a table would've been. I loved getting to interact with our sushi chef and felt very well taken care of. The sushi was amazing. I'm already plotting an excuse for my next visit.

The area where we were sitting was a bit too dark and could definitely add more lights for customers to see their menus. After giving a look at the menu, our server asked if we were ready. I said it's our first time so we need some time to look through the menu. She replied ok and left. We mainly ordered sushi items. Servers brought over each item one at a time. When I almost finished mine, my family is still waiting for theirs. You do see the staff walk by the tables constantly. However, I would hope the servers would ask how is everything and if we need anything else. Overall, sushi tastes fine. I probably won't be back given the experience that we had.

Found this place by chance as we were driving around the neighborhood. I probably have past this place thousand times before. Hostess, Waitress and Chef were incredibly friendly. Always smiling, attentive and courteous. The chef refilled my ginger everytime it was empty and always asked if I needed anything else. It looked like this place was known for their sushi bowls, but we didn't order that so I can't comment on it. All I can say is that those bowls looked absolutely stunning. We ordered a sayori saki, toro nigiri, salmon nigiri, salmon skin hand rolls, spicy tuna crispy rice, yellowtail roll with green onion and the albacore with crispy onion. The fish here is extremely fresh and the rice is also very tasty. My favorite of the day was the yellowtail roll with green onion, the toro and the albacore with crispy onion. I wasn't a fan of how they seared the albacore, but it was still delicious. The crispy rice was also good, but a little towards the bland side. They also put a hint of wasabi on all their sushi nigiris. I liked the simple touch that gives Murakmi their own flare. If you don't like wasabi I'm sure you can tell them not to add it. The only reason this spot doesn't get a solid 5 is because the decor was nothing to even mention and we had to wait about 25 minutes to get seated when the lady said only 5 minutes. read more

I used to go to the old location, and then I finally got around to going to the new one. I really love the food, it's simple and fresh and beautifully presented. The Chirashi bowls are a great deal, you can get a ton of sashimi over rice for the same price as a single roll, but it's way more filling and has more variety. Add some miso soup and maybe a salad appetizer and some green tea and you have the perfect summer meal. Last night we sat at the sushi bar and enjoyed watching the chefs slice fresh fish. The staff was very friendly, and I like that they are actually Japanese (some of them anyway because I heard them speaking), it makes it feel authentic, which it is. read more

I've travelled to Japan a few times over the past few years and thought I'd been spoiled for life to never be able to find a high level of sushi quality in america at an affordable, every day price. Good God, was I wrong. This place is without question the best quality sushi I've ever had in America at such a reasonable price --- great fresh ingredients, nice presentation, great environment and extremely friendly staff. if you find a place with better sushi that doesn't cost half the mortgage, please tell me --- but I'm blown away that this awesome place exists right in my neighborhood! 5 stars for sure . Sushi is everywhere. Even at 7-11 for f-cks sake. Most sushi places are not authentic, the fish isn't fresh and they get away with it because #wypepo love rolls, not sushi. Murakami is where you go for damn good sushi. The temp of the fish is right, the rice is seasoned, and the quality is fantastic. You get an authentic vibe here because the decor is underwhelming but who cares when the food is this good. Get the ponzu oysters. Amazing!!! If you want hip ambiance and decorative rolls smack yourself in the face and shave off your beard, hipster. If you want want good sushi go here. Japanese guy approved. I'm not sure why all of the reviews here are great. Maybe the pricing? Decently priced but the quality was horrendous. Service was slow and the waitress was rude, forgot to bring extra ginger and did not remember any requests or modifications made. But all of that aside (sometimes sushi restaurants are just like that...) the sushi was drenched in wasabi.....the worst thing you could do to a beautiful fish. Maybe their specialty items are drenched in enough sauce or ponzu that it masks the gross fish they use but their attempt to mask the freshness of nigiri with liberal amounts of wasabi was just heartbreaking. read more

I have been there 4 times in the last 3 weeks. The first 2 times were amazing. The quality of the fish is far superior to other Sushi places and the prices are even better. The last 2 times I went I was VERY disappointed. It appears that they are preparing the fish for the bowls earlier in the day and the fish did not taste as fresh. I really hope they understand that the quality needs to be good and that the bowls tasted 10 times better when they prepared it fresh rather than preparing it at the beginning of the day where the fish doesn't stay fresh. read more

Murakami is my absolute favourite of all the Teppanyaki steakhouses I've been to, from big famous chains to little family-owned places. Would definitely be coming back everything we tried was delicious! Street parking is available in the area too.

The Hollywood roll also comes with a chipotle mayo (I think), but the chipotle mayo is so watered down, it's a very interesting consistency with little flavor. Overall, these sushi rolls were not that great, the fish is not that fresh, and the flavors are lacking. However, because of the Uber Eats, buy one get one, the price and value was really good.

The fish is the star here, expertly crafted into some of the best tasting sushi this side of Tokyo. We had several nigiri and a few hand rolls and we were in heaven with every bite. I recommend flat meats because they tend to be easiest to crisp up and enjoy. Price point is a bit on the higher end, definitely higher than Gyu Kaku, but the quality makes up for it. This isn't your average Japanese BBQ. Ventilation wasn't stellar, so expect to leave with a bit of an odor on your person - to be expected, to some degree, but some places do a better job than others with clearing the smoke. Our grill also wasn't changed out and it affected the meat toward the end of our meal, so I recommend flagging someone down and proactively asking for a grill change when you notice it's becoming necessary. The interior is cozy and more intimate than I expected. Try to sit at a full booth if possible. Everyone was pretty pleasant here. Service was efficient. Street parking was available out front.

Chicken Kaarage: all bread, with perhaps a beak in there somewhere. Felt like a tough dumpling with some sweet sauce on the side. Could have saved the carbs / calories on this one. Chirashi-don: fish didn't pop with flavor or depth. Some was mushi. My friend commented on the best part being the tamago. Thank goodness for the egg. Not offensive, and didn't cause heartburn or food poisoning! So another "3" level plus there. The portion was generous, so if you're cool with the fish here, order away! Finally, the bulgogi bowl. While there wasn't quite enough beef for me (perhaps avoiding second bites of the other items made my hunger grow), the taste was lovely and the beef on the tiny bone was fun to eat. How could my favorite cookie in LA be retired? How could Spider-Man or Batman or Buddha or any messianic figure "retire"? The injustice conjures to mind a memory of the reason that six years ago I walked with my fist up during protests only blocks from this location. I'm not ashamed to say I buckled to my knees and spouted flowing tears that rivaled the lovely new waterfall you have outside. With all the uncertainty and chaos in the world, there was one place of solace I could rely on to nourish my spirit and renew the daily fight to spread light in this shadowy world. No, not at church. But at Yuko Kitchen, where I could sit and audibly exhale while demolishing the not-too-sweet-sweetness of the green tea sesame cookie. So please Yuko and team, before I believe all the good is gone from this world. Bring back the delightful sweet treat that could heal the world. The hallowed Green Tea Sesame Cookie.
