The restaurant is absolutely beautiful and all the people were very nice and helpful, but the food was very underwhelming. For the prices they charge they should have high-quality food that taste great. I had the seared tuna, and even though it looks like it was cooked correctly, it had the texture of the pork chop. Very stiff tasteless piece of tuna... the French onion soup's appearance was great. And the toasted Gruyere cheese was nice. But the soup was watery and tasteless. I started with a Caesar salad, it was fresh tasty and with the shaved Parmesan cheese. Just the way I like it. Than I order 6 oysters, that were fresh and the right texture. I could have eaten more, if my steak wasn't on the way. I had the top sirloin, med/rare. Which was perfect and so tender. The value on the meal was very reasonable. Had 7pm reservations for my husband and I. Restaurant was no too busy. Our waiter Trevor was phenomenal, he was very attentive and gave us tips for places to go during our vacation here. Trevor made our experience at the restaurant exceptional with his recommendations and history of the area. As an appetizer we order Escargot and Crab cake, both were delicious! My husband had prime rib and lobster tail and I ordered petite filet and lobster tail, both were fabulous! Wow. Very disappointed with this place. Just ate there last night and sadly we experienced many issues. I wanted to like it. It's in the downtown area and the ambiance inside is very cozy and nice. Seems like a great place to relax and enjoy a good meal and good conversations with friends and family. And our server Matthew was excellent. Other than that it was a complete letdown. The Hostess who greeted us when we entered was indifferent, and asked us the same question of how many people were in our party 3 separate times as if she couldn't care enough to remember the first time we answered it. And we were the only ones there waiting to be seated. The food here is terribly mediocre. I mean every single thing we had from the stale-ish bread to the sauteed shrimp appetizer to the prime rib and steak dinners were some of the most tasteless versions of those meals we've ever had. The meat for each meal was completely flavorless and unappealing and even the sides like potatos, vegetables and sauces were all dull and didn't enhance anything about the meal. And to make matters worse they charge you a ridiculous amount of money for everything as if they were a Scottsdale 5-Star fine dining place. They charge $40-55 for the same level quality meal you could buy at a Sizzler for $20-25. Their kitchen is completely inept. The chef does not know the difference between rare, medium and well-done and nothing comes out particularly tasty at all no matter what it is. The most disappointing moment of the night was when we were delivered two 8-oz. steaks that were not only smaller than 8 ounces they were horribly overcooked. We ordered a medium and a medium rare and they both came to us well-done. In fact 1 was so badly burnt it couldn't even be chewed and had to be spit out. Then when we asked for it to be replaced, the manager, who seemed nice, agreed it was completely inedible and when we tried to get a replacement and asked for a petite prime rib (and were more than willing to pay for the upgrade) we were advised the prime rib had been sold out which is a bad look for a steak & prime rib restaurant to be out of their featured dishes by only 6:30. The replacement was chicken and we still got charged for the more expensive steak dinner. So the main issues revolve around the over-pricing mixed with the poor quality of food presented. I had the pleasure of eating at Murphy''s on August 25th 2024 and as usual when I'am there I truly enjoyed the meal the ambiance and the wine . The service was great as always with the meal being very enjoyable I started with the wedge salad then enjoyed the baby back ribs which were delicious although a little messy . We decided to go to Murphy's for my son's 50th birthday. When I made the reservation, I told them that we chose Murphy's to celebrate the birthday. We've enjoyed our dining experience at Murphy's several times in the last few months. The staff has always been friendly and accommodating, and the food has been excellent. However, during this visit to Murphy's for our son's 50th birthday, we were disappointed for the following reasons: Even though we notified the restaurant making the initial reservation by phone that this was a special occasion, the host seating us had no knowledge of the occasion. As we were making our food selection we were very disappointed that two of our favorite appetizer items were not available. The two items were the avacado fries and the green beans. This was quite surprising as there was only four other guests in the restaurant. We feel this was because of poor kitchen management. As stated earlier this made our birthday occasion unexpectedly disappointing. The purpose of these comments are to be taken as constructive criticism. We went to Murphy's for their 40th year anniversary. All of the prices were from 1985. We had escargot for $5.25, prime rib for $12.95 and drinks for under $5. It was really nice. We ate leisurely and enjoyed the final day of the celebration. I hope that they have another 40 years. The service was on the slow side, but I didn't mind. We walked out for lack of service. We ordered our drinks and didn't see the waiter for 20 minutes. When we asked for him he talked to a couple other tables and disappeared again so we walked out. I haven't eaten at Murphy's for a year and my last time there. We had a really nice dinner large group in the back room. Everyone was happy and the food was good. Today it was terrible. Their brunch menu really needs some attention. Three of us ordered the prime rib melt on the brunch menu, there wasn't enough meat it was overcooked, all bun .It just didn't taste good. even the salad was mediocre at best. The blue cheese dressing was watery. there really wasn't no excuse for this meal, definitely not going again for the brunch and we'll see about dinner again. Just got into Prescott, checked into our hotel and asked for a "steak and seafood" dinner house suggestion. Sue didn't bat an eye before she told me, "Murphy's on Cortez". Well, you can't argue with a response like that! After we settled in, we got back into the car and found Murphy's. Walking in, we were immediately impressed with the turn-of-the-century ambiance. The long bar and back bar ran the length of the south side of the interior and the dining area populated the north side. We were seated in a mahogany paneled both and our waitress was right there for drinks and menu explanation. Tami opted for a Schezuan Crusted seared Ahi Tuna and I ordered a 16 oz. ribeye, both with baked potatoes. A loaf of hot and crusty bread with herbed butter launched our meal and before we knew it, our order arrived. We ate and shared until we couldn't, then boxed about 50% of our meals to go. Seriously. My wife and I came here for the first time 4 years ago, right before I proposed, and we've been back for our anniversary every year since. We make the trip from Phoenix and stay the night JUST TO EAT HERE. This year was no different. Great service, our waitress whose name I can't remember (so sorry!) was amazing. We aren't picky eaters, but the salad came with cheese on it, which we don't eat. No problem, we'll brush it off right? Nope. Waitress took the salads and had them remade. Wow. We both ordered the same thing, Prime Rib and lobster tail (pictured) which were both incredible. I don't know what else to say other than we finished it all. THEN, we decided to order dessert. We don't normally, because we're usually too full. The waitress suggested the chocolate cake, and we took her suggestion. I don't know where they get it from, or if it's made on site, but it's worth the trip just for the cake. And my wife.... doesn't like chocolate! She ate more of it than I did. Great service, great food. We'll be back, probably a few times before the next anniversary. Side note: as we were leaving, it started to snow. Had lunch here and everything was outstanding! The citrus salad with chicken was a large portion with the most delicious dressing. The chicken was cooked just right. First time to visit Murphy's last night. I had high expectations and was disappointed. The server was very good (Victoria), ambiance was okay...looked like it hadn't been touched in years. I had the filet. It had good flavor but I ordered it MR and it was closer to Rare. At $50 was expecting better. My wife had the beat salad (very good) and a burger. She ordered it medium and it came out well done. This combined with the huge bun it was very dry and not very flavorful. Overall pretty good meal. Calamari was pretty good. My filet mignon was excellent. A+++. The meat melted in my mouth. Wish they had a Demi-glaze or Bernaise sauce, but no big deal. The maitre D butter on top was good. Truffle fries on the side were pretty good. My wife's ahi tuna was just OK. Didn't seem to be of great quality. But it wasn't at all fishy, which is important. Cooked to rare as she wanted. Had a nice sear. Green beans were tasty. Side of mushrooms were just OK. My kids chicken fingers were the really cheap processed ones, but of course he really enjoyed them. Kids meal was a large amount of food. Crem brule was delicious. Our server Matthew was excellent. Went to Murphys today to take our daughter and her boyfriend for a special lunch since they are from out of town. Very disappointed, every dish we ordered was bad except the salad. Even the complimentary bread was burnt and hard as a brick. The steak sandwich my future son in law ordered was over cooked and dry. My husband's burger was rare inside with a burnt bun when it should have been slightly pink inside. The ham and cheese grill sandwich was so burnt and hard my daughter couldn't eat it. Not sure what's going on here as we have dined at Murphys before and it was good. Unfortunately we won't be going back after this experience. Too bad because as Prescott residents we could use a few good dining spots. With little to choose from one would think it's not that hard to be good in this town.
