My wife and I recently purchased a summer home in Prescott. I love a good prime rib - something that I do not cook at home. Murphys looked like a classic steak house. The interior and decor showed like a premium steak/ chop house. But, unfortunately, that is where the similarity ended. We recently had dinner at Murphys. The waiter was an idiot and the cook was unskilled. I ordered a medium-cooked prime rib, which should mean that the center 50% was pink. What I received was medium rare to rare, with the center being red. I sent the plate back. It was returned to me in about the same condition, so I sent it back again. So now this is the 3rd time the plate/meat is served to me. It is now served medium, but the baked potato and vegetables are luke warm. In conclusion, eat at Murphys and be prepared to pay a premium price for poor service and poor food preparation. read more

We've ben coming here for 25 years but sadly it has been going downhill for the past few so we won't be back. The escargot used to be the best we'd ever had but now it's covered in mozzarella, has mustard in the butter, etc...terrible. The bread used to be amazing but now it's gummy and stodgey. And the last time our friend's dinner came out over 30 minutes before ours so we finally had to just cancel our dinners and leave. The staff was huddled at the bar for literally 45 minutes having a good time while tables went unserviced. This makes us so sad since it was our favorite restaurant. read more

Took our family to Murphy's for Fathers Day. We haven't been there and were exctied to try it. A hostess greated us promptly and seated us. She was very nice and got our drinks quickly. Everyone at the table ordered something different and we started out with shrimp and calamari. Both were good. In about 20 minutes we were served our crab mac & cheese. The pasta was over cooked and mushy. We were so hungry that we picked on it for 30 minutes til we were finally served our main courses. The plates were hot and the food was tepid at best. Prime rim was so tough that no one in our party ate it, the mahi mahi was dry and difficult to cut, let alone eat. This was the most expensive meal that no one in our party liked at all. Where do I begin! My husband and I came here for a date night. We just wanted a few drinks and some apps. It did not disappoint!! Although they were out of oysters, supplier was behind schedule. We started off with Shrimp cocktail. It was a new experience with a different take on the cocktail sauce. My husband then had the French dip and I had the French onion soup. We recently moved here 6 months ago. Still trying new restaurants so on Mothers Day we went to Murphy's for the first time. The fact that the place was pretty empty by 6:00 pm should have alerted us. They had a special menu so needed to change what I planned to order but understandable. The first thing the waitress said was they were out of pork chops and sea bass. so, once again , I had to find something else to eat. ordered the Shrimp Scampi, which was good (although a little spicy for me), but good. My husband had the Scampi and ordered a side salad. I was surprised that there was not an extra charge for the salad. if it came with the dinner I wondered why I wasn't offered one. no bread either, just the meal. when it came to dessert, I heard her say to the next table they were out of cheesecake so decided not to have any. when the waitress came to the table, she asked if we wanted dessert. we said no. she then said I don't know why I even asked as we are out of just about everything . How do you run out of everything on a Holiday? I have to say, the drinks were excellent and the food was good. not sure if I will try again but definitely not on a holiday. read more

My wife and I showed on Thanksgiving to find they had no record of our reservation. I showed the hostess my phone when I called a few weeks back but, got nowhere, unless we wanted to sit in the back facing the wall. Fortunately, the manager Jim stepped in; professional, polite and accommodating. He offered us a spot at the bar, introduced us to the bar staff as his "special VIP guests" and comped a few things to make up for the mix up. Suffice it to say we had the best time! Jim came by often to check on us (apologized multiple times) and the bartenders, Damian and Cooper were the best! Various on the house shots appeared during our meal and the treatment was first class. What could have turned into a horrible night became a favorite experience. Thank you again Jim!! read more

We went there tonight for dinner with friends. The service was beyond slow. I ordered the coconut shrimp when it finally came 45 minutes later if not longer the oil it was fried in was rancid! They took it off the bill but I was starving! Who would wait another 45 for another dish? They apologized for the wait and said they were down two people in the kitchen. The main course ordered a Ribeye, great flavor and cooked to order. The dish is large in size so come with an appetizer. Order a Cocktail from bar, and it was ice cold and hit the spot. Service; We came for a wedding weekend, and ended up running into others our servicer was nice enough to join our tables. Server was very friendly, the bar was behind all night. We've been going to Murphy's when we visit Prescott since we were dating back in the 80s. We usually have a great experience. This time not so much I ordered a fish special and it didn't taste very good. My husband got the fishcakes as an appetizer. He wasn't very hungry and he really enjoyed them. I'm writing this as I listen to my husband continuing his violent purging of last night's meal from this restaurant. I was envious that his stroganoff came out steaming hot while my pasta dish was barely room temperature. I'd have tried his dish, but I don't care for mushrooms. So thankful I did not because I've never seen someone so sick with food poisoning. All that aside, everything tasted bland, bland, bland. The shrimp cocktail was served with "red remoulade". This was basic cocktail sauce. Nothing special. The shrimp came out wet, so the sauce didn't even stick to it. The friendly enough waitress who was patient with all my questions offered bread. It came wrapped in a towel as if it were warm. Nope. And it was a pretty basic loaf and nothing stood out about it. The herbed butter was decent. The rigatoni dish was flavorless. Like they didn't even salt the water the pasta was cooked in or use any seasoning whatsoever. So glad I asked for the shrimp (upcharge) blackened as this was the only part of my dish that had any flavor or was even remotely hot. My husband's prime rib stroganoff was uninspired and flavorless as well. He said he kept coming across raw/undercooked onions in it and seemed to be made with nothing more than cream of mushroom soup. Bathroom was clean though trash can was overflowing with paper towels. A bunch of staff kept hanging out at one end of the bar socializing. I had a mule and husband had gin & tonic. Both were fine. Should have trusted our guts a few months ago when we walked by and our thoughts were "meh." Even the rodeo in town didn't pack this place. That's pretty sad considering every other business we passed, including our usual haunts, were all busy. We will not be back. read more

We stopped for brunch today. My husband had the American breakfast. Bacon and potatoes were good, but the eggs were overcooked. I ordered the chicken salad and specified I didn't want it on the croissant, but instead sour dough bread. It came on a croissant. The waitress who took the order didn't deliver the meals, and the server left before I saw it was incorrect. If the waitress had come over and asked if everything was okay, I would have told her about the bread issue. I wouldn't have sent it back, but at least she would have known the kitchen or someone screwed up. We have frequented Murphys several times, and there has always been a small issue with the service. Murphy's is one of our favorite places to go while in downtown Prescott and Billy is one of our favorite bartenders...anywhere. Whenever we find ourselves in Prescott, we make it a point to stop at Murphy's for at least a few drinks. They have a killer jalapeño pineapple margarita that is to die for. Not sure it's on the menu but you can ask for it and if they have the ingredients, they'll make it for you! Happy hour is pretty good too. They have pretty good items on the menu although I would not recommend their mac & cheese. The happy hour burger is pretty good but it's hit or miss. Sometimes the patty is just way too thick or too tough but when they make it right, it's one of the best burgers I've had! I think anyone that comes into this place would love the ambience of the old wild Wild West. Bar is beautiful and the people there are always friendly. The only reason I'm not giving this place five stars is because of the inconsistencies of their burgers and a few other items, but if they could nail the food, I would give this place 10 stars. read more

We ate here 11/24 Beautiful restaurant with plenty of ambiance. Birthday, first date, anniversary or any occasion you can't go wrong with this place. We had Calamari which was so/so. We normally get ours from the coast of California so it's hard to beat. I had catfish cooked with care with a nice breading which came with green beans (excellent and perfectly prepared). Husband had sea bass perfectly prepared with delicious spinach. We both loved our meals and look forward to coming back each time we visit. Service was impeccable. read more

Within 24 hrs of leaving the post from Halloween night the manager at Murphy's called me to apologize for the service and food- I explained I would not be back in town until February- but he said he would send a gift card so we would definitely give them another try. Received the gift card and a hand written note- extremely impressed! Will post again, hoping we can leave another 5 stars when we head to Prescott again in February! Unfortunately we came again tonight and had the worst service ever- steaks not done correctly, drinks were bad, sirloin comes out and was identical as a filet- but none were good. No bread was served to the table, the salads were wilted. Sad because we had such a great experience the first go around- but a 240 bill for steak we couldnt eat, even after sending it back and that made it so we will never be back! read more

Finally our waitress sat us at a booth. She appeared to be intoxicated and started sneezing and coughing at our table when taking our order. She was very sloppy and kind of gross with her presentation l. We waiting for our food for 30 mins, but overall the food tasted good. How could they be out of items on a limited menu on a holiday when the place was practically empty? Anyway, my buddy and I both ordered the prime rib. He ordered his rare, I ordered mine medium rare. When they came out the waiter had a hard time deciding whose was whose because they were both rare! I asked him to take it back and make it medium rare. He grabs my bread plate and motions for me to put the meat on it, then he runs off in a huff. Five minutes later he comes back with my steak. Now it's medium. No pink at all. For $53.00. My buddy's wife ordered a steak which was supposed to come with mashed potatoes and green beans. The waiter brings out a plate with the steak and green beans, no potatoes. She asks about the potatoes. His reply is the kitchen screwed up. He returns again in a huff with a separate plate with potatoes. We live in Prescott. We've had good dinners and not so good dinners at Murphy's. The food has always been genuinely good (not great), but for the price one expects both much better service and food. Glad they were able to let my family eat together. They have tables upstairs so it's like more private. Has a low ceiling upstairs, so felt it was pretty loud. They gave us complementary bread and butter. We came at like 2 and we asked for another menu (dinner menu) which has more options. I got the half rack of ribs which were good. Very saucy. Came with a side and asparagus. Also comes with salad or soup. Got the salad it was good. My sister got the burger it was good and thick. My cousin ordered a burger too and they forgot the cheese and then he said it was to tough. My mom liked the clam chowder. The creme brûlée was good. The Apple pie with ice cream tasted like Christmas but wasn't a fan of the big pieces of apple in it. Pretty pricey place. read more

We ate at Murphy's on 7/10, our first and last time at this restaurant. We liked the ambiance, an old saloon type space, but the service and food were terrible. Everything had to be requested twice -- water, bread, and even a fork for my entree. When our entrees were put down our dirty appetizer plates were left on the table. When the wine glass was served, the beer glass was left on the table. By the time dinner was finished, we were up to our eyeballs in dirty dishes. The food was just as bad -- we both had the rigatoni which was served with an excessive amount of chewy cheesy sauce, a bechamel/asiago blend that a big blob of yuck. We both ate about two bites. The server didn't even notice. Say no to Murphy's because there are plenty of great places in Prescott. read more

Our first experience at Murphy's was the bar. Billy was wonderful! Great personality and delightful service. When our reservation time arrived, I visited the restroom before being seated. It was filthy! Used and wadded paper towels were scattered all over and piled on top of the sink because the trash can was overflowing. The hostess, who looked like a resurrected 1980s punk rocker with purple hair, first sat us in the upstairs balcony section (although there were dozens of open tables in the lower section). The ceiling height was 6 feet. Warning: DO NOT SIT IN THE BALCONY IF YOU HAVE CLAUSTERPHOBIA. We immediately requested a different table and were sat three feet from the front door, directly in front of the hostess station...you know, the one where the punk rocker with the purple hair stood. As that, too, was unacceptable--and since three times is usually a charm--we asked for a different table and were sat in a section reserved for "normal" people who don't like to eat in doorways or who fear the ceiling falling on them. Our server greeted us then immediately began to complain that they were "too busy," so we were pretty sure that we were in for a bad time. We started by ordering two non-alcoholic specialty drinks and some soup. The soup never came. The drinks, however, came fairly quickly but looked NOTHING like the ones described on the menu. The bread came out, hot with butter. It had zero taste--bland, like flour and water. The butter didn't help. My husband's prime rib was a 5 (scale 1 to 10). No flavor, too much fat. He ordered a baked potato with butter. The butter never came...well, I take that back, the butter arrived as soon as we were leaving. Our waiter never checked on us. He came by just in time to bring us the bill. The best service of the day was the guy who brought out a box for us to take our scraps home for the dog, the only one who might find the food acceptable. Service is off to a glacially slow start, which began at entry and has continued upon being seated at one of the half empty tables after a 10 minute wait . Murphy's heavily advertises itself as a Prime Rib and Seafood Resturant. Well it's 7:00 PM on Friday night and they're already out of prime rib and there only a few "seafood" dishes hardly a seafood restaurant. The ambiance is somewhere in between Cracker Barrel and an Applebees, definitely not an Irish pub in any sense the menu has zero traditional Irish pub fare available and lack the intimacy of a pub. The servers are all well dressed and professional. Salads arrived their ingredients were fresh and chilled. A loaf of fresh soft warmed bread was served with a herbed butter, which were both good. I shoulda known when the locals in Prescott rate Texas Roadhouse as the best steak house in town. That's a travesty. I've waited to complete this review for a while to make sure I was being just. The service was fine, the small dinner salads were good, the steak was merely adequate light on beef flavor and seasoning. Had we not ordered a side the dinner ($150 for two with iced teas) would have consisted of bread, salads and two lonely steaks served solo on big plates. It's as if someone read a book about a fine steakhouse and has never been to an actual steakhouse. I would not recommend Murphy's to anyone. read more

Another visit to a historic building in Prescott. . It has a beautiful bar area as well as upstair seating. The food isn't as grand as it use to be and definitely not worth the high price. But you pay for being in a historical building. Our waiter Matthew was really good. The service has always been good.
