Stopped in for dinner before attending a show down the road. This was our first time in and we loved the place, warm atmosphere friendly staff. The food was beyond expectations, I went with baked Haddock with mashed and broccolini which was perfect. The fish was delicious and perfectly cooked, the mashed were creamy and quite tasty. We visited for Valentine's dinner and had a really lovely experience overall. From the moment we arrived, the staff was warm and welcoming. Our waitress was especially sweet, cheerful, and attentive throughout the evening. The owner even stopped by our table to check in and say hello, which was a nice personal touch you don't always see. Service was strong all around. The only small hiccup was that the glasses placed on our table by the host were not clean, but once service got going everything else was smooth and professional. The food was the star of the night. We shared a salad to start, then ordered the tomahawk steak with roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, and grilled asparagus -- the steak was tender, flavorful, and cooked well. We also added the wild mushroom risotto on the side, which was rich and satisfying. Drinks were well made and not watered down, which we definitely appreciated. For dessert, we finished with the molten lava chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream -- a perfect sweet ending. The interior is clean and comfortable, though some of the furniture could use updating. That said, the friendly service and quality of the meal made for a very enjoyable Valentine's dinner. We would return. Special shout out to Kayla our server. Seated quickly, on a Sunday. Sat for a few minutes before we were acknowledged by the waitress. But when we stressed how quickly we needed to eat, the server was attentive. and we got our food (and check) quickly. I've been here a few times for events but tonight I hosted a party of 9 as a mini "sprinkle" baby shower/dinner for my friend. They set us up on the side of the restaurant in our own little side nook near a fireplace and it was lovely and private while still connected to the restaurant. The waitress was friendly and attentive even though I think she may have been the only person serving the dining room tables. Everyone enjoyed their food and the atmosphere. I'd definitely come back to eat with my family our host another small gathering here everyone from the seating hostess, to the bartender, to our server were kind and accommodating. We've had some awesome visits and then a few rocky ones, and then tonight we had probably one of the worst experiences at a restaurant in this area. The one constant is that we are always greeted with super friendly folks upfront. Unfortunately, this time as we were walking outside, we were told that we couldn't have one of the tables in the shade because they had to spread out service. We ended up getting seated in an extremely sunny spot and we're hopeful with the adjacent umbrella that the sun would hide long enough for us to enjoy our dinner. My husband ordered the steak au poivre, I ordered the meatloaf and our son and the macaroni and cheese. After more than 35 minutes of no food, we were scorching and still saw three tables that no one had sat in, so we asked if there was any way to move into one with the shade. Instead of trying to work with customers, I don't understand why the stance is so strict that they'd rather see you suffer because they can't figure out how to have the waitress that you currently have take a few steps to the right to a different table. So essentially, she said we couldn't move even though she saw us using the menus as a tent for our son. Some may see this is our fault for sitting outside, but the whole reason we go to this place is because they have an awesome patio. If you live in New England and understand how bad the winters are, it's nice to try to take advantage of sitting outside while you can. Eventually, we receive the food. Before we could say anything, the waitress was off doing something else. Immediately, my husband realized that the brussels sprouts that we both had a sides didn't have the balsamic glaze that was promised and his steak had zero seasoning, it's supposed to be au poivre. Luckily, my meatloaf was as expected, but that's pretty much the only thing they got right besides our six-year-old's mac & cheese. After waiting a while, and not seeing our waitress, my husband decided to hunt down his own salt and pepper. Unfortunately, he could only find pepper, but at least it was a start. After a while longer of still not seeing her, I was thoroughly disappointed in the fact that I couldn't eat the sprouts because they were super dry and unflavored, he decided that he had had enough, and it was on the hunt to see if he could find her. Minimally, we wanted the sauces and flavors that should have automatically come with our food. She proceeded to come over to the table and asked if he wanted his steak redone. He didn't see the point of wasting a perfectly cooked steak, but he asked if he could please get something to flavor it and if we could get the sauces for the brussels sprouts She also told her that he didn't want to wait another 35 minutes since it was astonishing how long it took to get the food. She admitted that there was a large party inside and we can only assume that that's where all the attention went. Eventually, we got the extras flavors, but at this point, we were super disappointed. I was able to finish most of mine but certainly not as much as I could have because at this point cold brussels sprouts are not enjoyable. My husband ate about a quarter of his meal and when she came over we explained that this is just not ideal. I will never expect to have a meal completely comped, but minimally it would have been nice to see a manager, and it would've been appreciated to get at least a discount instead, we were received the full total and a shrug. I honestly wish I had taken photos, but I think in all of the commotion it slipped my mind We're super sad because we have been coming here at least once a week the past three months and we easily spend upwards of $150 each time. This has been the one way we treat ourselves and sadly cannot do it since they clearly don't appreciate it. I think that's the last time for a long long while. read more

Third time was not the charm. Absolutely terrible one again. Went with the pizza to be safe, as did two others in our party of 15. We got three shitty frozen pizzas with zero taste or flavor. It was honestly like eating cardboard. Three of us sent our flat, smelly beers back (each a different beer) solidifying the thought that this place can't keep enough patrons to keep the beer taps flowing. Incredibly slow service despite being the only customers in the building. Save your time and money. read more

Ugh...wish I had read reviews on yelp before going here for the first time. Also should have noticed the empty parking lot at 5:30PM on a Friday. The positive - the restaurant is beautiful and well done. Nice decor. Plenty of beers on tap. Decent menu with good offering. These are the reasons I gave it two vs one star. The negative - no one here seemed interested on waiting on anyone. Two of four three bartenders seemed more interested in talking amongst themselves vs serving the few people at the bar. Ourselves...appetizer was never put in. My food came out cold (positive is they didn't charge us for it). No seemed to really care about this. This place has potential to turn things around. They have a beautiful location that should do well in an affluent town. Just need to get the right staff in there that has a desire to serve its customers and make the dining experience an enjoyable one. read more

I would absolutely not recommend getting food here. I got the mushroom ravioli dish and ...yikes. It was so bad. Mushrooms were undercooked and sitting in a soup of...water?? New year's eve my fiance and I sat at the bar to enjoy a drink and some food. Unfortunately, the service was extremely slow. While the drinks and food were delicious, the experience was ruined by how long the food/drinks took. I can't say I blame the staff however because (as someone who used to work in the food industry) I noticed there were only 2 bartenders working, and servicing the entire full bar and restaurant. The bartender who was taking care of us (blonde hair, i'm sorry i forgot your name!!) was berated by who i'm assuming is the manager. i've heard things about Murphy's in the past - by both employees and customers - but now seeing it with my own eyes makes me never want to go there again read more

Husband and I tried this place last night. Our server Joe was fantastic, smiling and making suggestions. Was helpful when inquiring about ingredients as my hubby has allergies. Food was fantastic!! I had the Lemon pepper chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries! YUM! Chicken was delicious with the fried mozzarella and balsamic sauce. Will definitely get again. Husband had the Bacon wrapped meatloaf with Brussel sprouts and mashed potato. He said it was great and had enough for leftovers . We did have the Philly Cheesesteak spring rolls and those were very good. The atmosphere in the place is nice and plenty of tables. We will be back!! read more

We were visiting relatives in Milford, New Hampshire and decided to celebrate two birthdays. My daughter suggested Murphy's Taproom and Pub in Bedford, NH. As we drove into the parking lot we noticed that an antique car show was there. They had some great looking cars in excellent condition. Even with the car show there was plenty of parking for the restaurant. Our waitress, Kalyn, was very attentive. We ordered some appetizers and soup. The appetizers were hot. We had hot sauce and barbecued buffalo wings and clam chowder. Everything was delicious and steaming hot. I had the fish and chips and they were crispy and hot. My wife and daughter had the Prime cut New York steaks with mashed potatoes and broccoli. The steaks were perfectly cooked and served hot. My grandson had the Maryland Crab cake sandwich served with French fries. He loved it and ate everything on his plate. The interior of the restaurant is modern with separate rooms with glass panels to give the customers some privacy. They have booths and barroom area is quite nice. We were not rushed at all and enjoyed our time there. If you are in the Bedford area in New Hampshire you should make it a point to have lunch or dinner at Murphy's. The sevice was great and the food was excellent. I guarantee you will not be disappointed with Murphy's. Enjoy your time together and enjoy a meal with your family and/or your friends. Update: I received a message from the owners of Murphys with an apology and a commitment to make improvements for the future. They have taken the feedback to make a positive improvement. I respect that and will commit to going back and giving them another chance. Happy Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving at Murphys Taproom, don't bother. We had high hopes based on comments from previous thanksgivings and pictures of the buffet on the website. We should have realized when we walked in the door with a reservation and saw a crowd of people standing waiting for tables, and diners trying to walk down the hallway with their food from the buffet. Our table near the fireplace in the bar was lovely and quiet. Then it went downhill. We ordered drinks and they never came. The buffet was low in supply and the serving area was a mess. I didn't have high hopes. But the turkey was actually some of the best turkey I've ever had. The sole florentine wasn't bad either. Other than that , it was bad. Our drinks finally arrived as we were taking our last bites of our meal. Meanwhile there were still crowds of people in the waiting area complaining that they were waiting for tables. Unfortunately it seems they overbooked and perhaps were understaffed. We will not be going back to Murphys taproom, even though the owners wrote beautiful notes that were included with the checks. They should rethink their reservation system and the buffet layout for next year. Happy Thanksgiving everyone. At least we got to spend time with our families. And our server was delightful even though she was in a tough position. We were grateful that she was there on a holiday. read more

This is the ONLY taproom we've ever found that doesn't allow people to taste their beers before committing... they're definitely not focused on "service" along with a "take it or leave it" attitude. The staff need a lot of training, because the foetus who served us couldn't remember a damn thing. read more

Perplexing. I've been here twice and there are some glaring issues. First though let me say the spot is gorgeous. The dining room is posh as all get out and the patio is equally as lovely, especially on a warm day. The waitstaff are pros. Uniformly dressed, accommodating and attentive. The menu is ambitious, just some really fun stuff that you wouldn't necessarily see at other spots around NH. I know what you're thinking. "Rory, this all sounds so lovely, why you being a such a stingy cunt with your stars?!" Two reasons my love. They are as follows: 1. The Food: Its not great. I ordered a Fish and Chip. My go to. I got an enormous portion of fish which was exciting at first but instead of couple of good sized fillets I got one gigantic piece. By the time I was half way through the batter was soaked through and tasted of ammonia. The second go round was better but not by much. 2. The ambience: On our second trip we opted to sit in the dining room as it was chilly out and getting dark. We were sat directly in front of the evening's entertainment: a lady playing guitar and singing. It's not a particularly large dining room but for some reason they had her hooked into the PA which was inconveniently pointed directly at our table. I shouted to our waitress over the din of an Alannis cover that could we pleased be moved as the sound was fucking deafening. She offered up the patio as the dining room was full. Very well. Ice cold out there it was but quiet. Quiet until the shitty country/rock started blasting out of the speakers at the outdoor bar. There's two people sat at the bar and us sat at a table at 7pm and they are at maximum decibel. Why? I don't know my love. After some convincing the waitress turned the music down and we were able to finish our freezing cold dinner in somewhat quieter condition. This place needs to sort themselves out. Is it fine dining or a bar? Turn the music down, sort out the food and we'll have another go. read more

The food was pretty bad and I won't give the details for what everyone in my party got and why it was bad but I'll just give one example - I got a Caesar salad that was essentially a bowl of sour-ish Caesar dressing with some lettuce in it. The owners really need to do a review of their menu and invest in some training for their kitchen staff. Surprisingly disappointing first time customer. Went on a nice summer afternoon so we could sit outside. The restaurant itself is beautiful inside. Patio is nice. The food was decent enough. I got a ruben, very good as was wife's chicken sandwich. The service was excruciatingly slow. There was almost nobody in the restaurant and what looked like a political function going on. It took so long for the staff to acknowledge us we almost left. We finally sat down and it was a good 20 minutes before a waiter took our order. We came close to leaving a second time. Very disappointed in the short ribs. What was served was not short ribs. It was sliced, tough beef. Short ribs are fall off the bone tender. This was a poor attempt to substitute something for short ribs. We had a party of 9. Two of us got the so-called short ribs, and we were both very disappointed. I've waited a month before writing this review in case my immediate reaction to my experience there wasn't warranted. Upon reflection, everything I felt about my experience was more than justified. Because of a family crisis, I found myself in need of a restaurant that served Thanksgiving dinner only a few days on advance of the holiday. With such short notice, I didn't have many choices, but Murphy's had a reservation for our party late in the afternoon. Perfect, crisis avoided. If only the experience at the restaurant were as gratifying as getting a reservation. Food quality, value and service were all severely lacking. I will post a few, not all, of the issues we encountered. We arrived on time for reservation, but we had to wait an inexplicably long time to be seated despite several open tables. The family style servings were inadequately sized. We were served as a party of three, yet the quantity of food would have been appropriate for two. Two larger parties who were seated after us were served long before us. Our meals were downright cold. Turkey, potatoes, gravy, etc. We would have sent it back it for the fear that we would never have gotten served more food before sunset. Our server had to be called to our table several times, she never stopped by to ask how things were or if we needed anything (until the check was brought). The server had to be reminded two or three times for items that we had requested. I could go on, but I think it is clear that this was totally unacceptable dining experience. I certainly understand that staffing on a major holiday can be an issue, but the extent and depth of the poor experience we had was beyond that simple explanation. Do yourself a favor, travel a mile to the 1750 taphouse just down the road if you're looking for a like venue in the area. read more

The food has gone down hill and it shrunk. My meatloaf was about the size of half a cupcake. It was so so. My husband's fish and chips was all batter and skinny fries. Neither plate had garnish. Our waiter was busy, when he came to the table he never revived a dirty plate. Our water glasses were often empty. Our dessert, carrot cake, was also small and mostly frosting. We left feeling the staff was overwhelmed, the kitchen was being run be amateurs, and the cook phoned the work. We ate at this restaurant several time this summer and enjoyed the food and service. The best thing about this experience was that they comped all the food they got wrong. That's pretty bad. After 20 minutes past our reservation with no human contact, we sat ourselves at the bar. The bartender was friendly and did the best she could. My panzanella salad was mostly inedible. The bread, Brussels sprouts, and sweet potato were all rock hard. That only left the kale. Which was spinach. It goes on, but you get the idea. Oh the French onion soup was great!! That will be the one star. read more
