Food - Reggie's Veggie Wrap: (5/10) This was a super basic wrap with zucchini, onions, and carrots. The veggies were definitely undercooked, as they were too crunchy. The pesto cream sauce in the wrap was solid and went well with the mozzarella. Overall, it was nothing special, not to mention it was soggy when it was served. - Firehouse Burger: (4/10) This burger had an overwhelming amount of very tangy buffalo sauce on it, which took over the taste of the burger itself. I got a medium well burger expecting little-to-no pink in the middle, but it was cooked passed well-done and ended up being dry. - Thumann's Hot Dog with Chili: (6/10) This was a pretty good chili cheese dog with plenty of beans in the chili and a mild kick. The hotdog had a classic snap to it, and the onions were a good wrap to the whole thing. I ordered it because I was craving a chili cheese dog, but it was nothing special that I couldn't make at home. Service: (7/10) We went on a weekend, but it wasn't that busy. The food took a little while to come out. There was only one server, but she was attentive when not tending to others. Atmosphere: (9/10) This is a super chill pub with plenty to do. Not service dog friendly. Was happy to show the dogs paperwork in order to sit outside on the front porch for a bite but the owner wanted to know why I needed the service dog (which is illegal to ask). As he is still a puppy and learning the service ropes I made the mistake of letting him say hi as we walked past the only table there of a group of young guys who wanted to say hi to the dog. The owner pointed out that this was unacceptable for a service dog to do so she was looking for any and all reasons to deny us to sit down. If your looking for a break from the downtown pretentious, high priced establishments, this is it! This isn't Stamford's fanciest place, but it is the friendliest. The bartenders make you feel like family and the food never misses no matter what you order, although I am partial to the Rueben. This place really has gone downhill lately... and big time.... Last three times we've been here have been a unpleasant experience. Not only for me, but our entire group... it's either fraudulent charges on our credit cards, to rude bus boys , & now rude waitresses... recently we had about enough. We came here with a group of 10 people for drinks. One of our friends is disabled & has a service dog, which under ADA it clearly states you cannot refuse service to someone with a registered service animal.. the minute our friend shows up, our rude waitress immediately says "get the f*** out we don't allow dogs here".. where I nicely explain to her how ADA works and she canning refuse service to him. Where she continues to say I don't f***ing care, i don't even work here"... the bartender who has been the bartender for years then comes over and calls Dawn & all is clear, the dog is able to stay (the bartender is a nice guy, it's just this one girl who ALWAYSSSSS is a pain). To the owners, I suggest you do something about this girl. I think her name is Tony?.. we're always respectful of the space, always tip well, and never make any fuss even with the fraudulent credit card charges. This place is a hidden gem. By far, they have the best burgers in Stamford. Their traditional wings aren't fried and are some of the best I've ever had. They are baked and then finished on the grill. Murphy's has a good beer selection and are served ice cold. They are usually playing good tunes but also have several TVs so you can catch a game too. This place appears to have a great bar atmosphere. The food is a standard pub fare but it was pretty good. Had the salmon over greens with a wasabi dressing. Pretty good salmon, salad was much better. New England clam chowder was cold. Did not bother complaining, so it's my own fault for not bringing it to their attention. And I was somewhat shocked they did not offer a dessert menu. Bartender was nice enough as a waiter/server. Just a good-old, regular bar. I like the patio seating and the grilled (not fried) wings. Sooooo delicious. The food menu used to be limited to burgers and fried stuff but has expanded into actual entree territory, though I haven't yet tried anything new. The service is usually decent, I often go to the bar for my first drink and then sit on the patio after that. The transition from bar to table is always smooth, the staff has never once asked me to close a check at the bar before moving on to a table. Also, they have a REAL, cork dartboard. Not friendly for the disabled/handicapped. Apparently this establishment thinks they're above the law as they flagrantly disregarded the American Disabilities Act and seems to have done so several times in the past. There are many restaurants and bars in Stamford and I recommend patronizing those that have morals, ethics and a soul. Which would not be this restaurant. read more

I called the day before Easter to check if they were open for lunch because my mom was coming up from NJ to visit. They said they were. My mom and I walked in, no greeting whatsoever. We walked to the back looking around aimlessly for help. My mom finally asked the bartender if we could seat ourselves, so we went outside. He asked if we wanted anything to drink, we ordered some cokes, he brought them to us and just said "Is that it?" My mom asked what they had to eat and he said only the grill was on and all they had were hot dogs. It would have been nice if they had told me that when I called the day before. So we got up, paid $4 for sodas we didn't even take a sip from and left. Went with 3 of other friends to Murphy's to have drinks. Everything went well until we were to leave. When we were in the parking lot, the guy (bald and beard with black t shirt) came to us and asked that why we didn't pay the tip in spite of paying decent tip of 13% for the service we received. We were shocked. In my 14 years in USA, nobody asked me about the tip explicitly. TIP IS NOT MANDATORY. Murphy's - you have lost a good customer. I would normally pay 20% tip but for the service that we received I shouldn't even pay 13%. Much less than that. On top of that accusation of not paying tip. Most ridiculous thing ever. Okay ... I'm from Dallas and while in Stamford I discovered Murphy's quite by accident. I just happened to drive by a year or so ago and dropped in. Here's what I found: THE BEST DAMN CHEESEBURGER THAT I'VE EVER EATEN ... EVER ... PERIOD. I mean, the cheeseburger was so cotton-picking good that I had a cheeseburger for dessert. That's no lie. This place has a super friendly staff and even the regulars make you feel like you're part of the family as soon as you sit down. The drinks are (imagine Donald Trump's voice here) HUGE! You get some serious bang for just a couple of bucks at Murphy's. I like this place A LOT and make a beeline to it every time that I'm in town for business ... and as soon as I sit down, Chris brings me my usual Jack and Coke without even a prompt. Now that's service! Edit (7/9/2012): It's been 6-8 Months since I was at Murphy's and there have been some changes ... not all of them favorable in my opinion. However, after posting some of my concerns on their FaceBook page, they IMMEDIATELY responded with some additional changes and invited me to try them again. My husband has been wanting to try this place since we've moved to Stamford because of the grilled chicken wings he had heard about. He ventured out and went by himself to try them one night and since then, has been asking me every opportunity he has to ask me to go to Murphy's. Our mom was visiting us and we decided to check out Murphy's for dinner. It was a Monday night and the weather was beautiful, so we sat outside. There are about 5 to 6 tables, and it sits a little back from the street, so there's definitely privacy. I went inside to checkout the draft beer selection and also to use the bathroom and noticed that the restaurant is pretty big. The bar area is a bit on the smaller side, but it was very welcoming. The grilled wings were fantastic. They had a seared texture/taste to them and were tossed perfectly in hot/BBQ combo (My husband likes his wings hot/BBQ sauces mixed together). I had the Murphy's salad with shrimp and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. It could've used a bit more shrimp, seeing that we had to pay an extra $6 on top of the salad, but it was still pretty good. My husband and mom each had burgers and although they were happy with the way the burgers were cooked and the toppings as well, we did comment that the buns were the potato buns you'd get at the grocery store. A well cooked burger that's dressed well should be presented on a good bun. The fries were good, and I think if they switched up the bun game, the burgers would really be out of this world good. I'm not sure if there's off street parking nearby as we walked but it looked like there was plenty of on street parking near the restaurant. The reviews on Yelp for this place are kind of confusing.... THIS PLACE IS A DIVE BAR (with pricier than typical dive bar drinks). We recently made the mistake of grabbing dinner at this place. Service at the outdoor tables took forever (like, 20 minutes to get a menu, only after we chased down the waitress), the wings were burnt and the burgers were intensely greasy. Only reason I go back every time is there Grilled Chicken Wings ( is killer) , they make in front of you, they have a bar attached kitchen. Even I writing this review my mouth is watering, that delicious. Friendly staff they pay great attention on each customer. And yet, here's Murphy's Townhouse, a bar that stands defiantly on the corner of Franklin Street and is emboldened by a wonderful crowd of regulars who give off that "cozy" vibe that you'd get out of a "Cheers" or "How I Met Your Mother" type sitcom. Murphy's is a wonderful place. It has a diverse selection of beer, with ample indoor and outdoor seating and sneaky-excellent bar food to boot. The owner and wait staff are all tremendously friendly and the prices are very very fair on everything. They also, quietly, have the best burger in town for the price. Hipster pub, terrace, fire pit, great food. The place to be round the clock. Funky, old, New England bar, kicking it old style with cool patrons and attitude. No better place to catch a sports event, be treated like an old friend (think: where everybody knows your name), the prices are a true Fairfield County bargain, and the intrigue is entirely England, or in this case, New England: old, young, black, white, gay, straight, and everything in between. Everyone has found a home here. Pinstripe suits after work, UCONN college kids at all times, grandparents, war vets, and sexy people, all call this home. Down to earth yet hip and trendy, this venue has it all. A place you can have a conversation, and to me, that's worth the trip. A place where if you have a few to many, options around town are plenty, from the sublime to the ridiculous. Example: Delamar in Greenwich is minutes away, only three exits off I-95, a cheap cab ride, or about ten minutes on the back roads. Closer? A one block walk will bring you to the Courtyard Marriott in Stamford, both economical, extremely pretty, close to about 50 great restaurants, bars, the mall and other delights. Then, again, you might get an offer to leave your car at the ample parking lot, and take a load off, for free when you "continue that conversation" with a fellow patron. Love this spot! Went to Murphy's last night to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and we had a great time. I used to come here a lot when I worked in Stamford's Harbor Point area between 2015-2018 so it has always been a spot my friends and co-workers enjoyed. Even those of us who did Fleetfeet run club back in the day would meet here after a run and hang in the outside space to play some games. Obviously with covid things have changed a bit but you still get a great space: there's two indoor section's, large enough for social distancing and tons of tv screens to watch a sports games or boxing match, great outside patio and yard. Parking on the side or street parking available. The staff is super friendly, quick to serve, and make you feel at home. Our group was accommodated with ease. Dan and his brother have kept this family establishment true to its roots. Also for those of you who love wings, this is the spot! Would definitely recommend for drinks (I had ciders last time, yum) or a bite for locals and Stamford visitors alike. We'll be returning soon! read more
