Mychal's Cafe is a coffee shop, breakfast and lunch cafe. A social enterprise by Mychal's Learning Place, this fresh American eatery provides quality meals in a casual environment while creating employment and job training for youth with developmental disabilities. The soft opening began Wednesday, and the hours will be expanded after the ribbon cutting. The former Natural World Market space is newly remodeled, spacious, airy and beautiful. As noted above, the food is prepared by individuals with developmental disabilities. The space is available for parties, weddings, showers, etc. There is a nice outdoor patio for al fresco dining that I will post a photo of later. There is also merchandise for purchase. On to the food: The grilled cheese was crunchy and oozing with cheesy goodness. Looking forward to trying other menu items like the panini. The salad was fresh and good although methinks it needed just a tad more dressing. The croutons were a bit large and overly crunchy for my taste so I left them behind. Once you get to a certain age you realize that getting crowns for your teeth are expensive! Had a nice chat with Ed, the founder of Mychal's Learning Place. The cafe will be expanding once the Box Brothers business next door moves to a new space. A great addition to the neighborhood! read more

This spot came up on Yelp so we decided to give it a try. Full disclosure, this restaurant is staffed with special needs adults fully supervised so the menu is not extensive. The food is great and the portions are a good size for the price. We ordered the Breakfast Burrito which was a good size and packed full of ingredients. The Two Egg Scramble was a really good sized portion, we needed a to-go box in the end. Both were delicious and there was no skimping on eggs and sausage. You order at the counter and the staff bring out your drinks and food. We came on a Sunday morning and it wasn't crowded at all. There is outdoor seating so you could bring a pet. The facilities are really clean and easy access. Parking in the back which you enter from a back street but is well marked. Overall a great experience, I would recommend this place to anyone! read more

Parking: is a little tricky but the parking lot had ample space. If coming from Artesia there is street parking in the front or for the parking lot turn onto McKay lane and a right on Vanderbilt behind the restaurant (it's a one way street) Food- the ciabatta bread for the sandwiches were SO good. Also everything tasted fresh and flavorful. The drinks were good as well and our favorite dessert that we tried was the snickerdoodle cookie (not pictured cause we ate it so fast ! Service: amazing :) it was our first time and when we were ordering they had a lot of patience for us while we discussed the different options and the food came out within a reasonable amount of time. Accessibility: not sure if this is always how it is but no music was playing inside (a plus for me !) because it's less auditory stimuli. But if you're not a fan maybe bring some headphones to listen to something. Both indoor and outdoor seating and I appreciated that the outdoor was in the back so the noise is more manageable than the other side which is a busier street. Plenty of space to move around the tables, gender neutral bathrooms, the trash cans in the bathrooms have a touch button if you have difficulty with your balance or limited use of your legs for the step-on trash cans. read more

I heard about Mychal's Cafe opening in our North Redondo neighborhood. Our family went on a Sunday for breakfast to check it out. The atmosphere was bright, welcoming, and kid friendly. We ordered a breakfast burrito, scrambled eggs, avocado toast, a bagel and fruit. Everything was exceptionally delicious and eaten by our picky eaters. My son said it is his new favorite breakfast burrito. It is also run by workers with developmental disabilities, so you are supporting a great organization on top of an excellent meal. I think we found our new local breakfast spot and recommend checking it out for coffee, breakfast, and lunch! read more

Very nice place to come in and just relax a bit. Walking in it's really nice how much light came in from the large windows. There's plenty of seating and even extra outdoor seating, so enjoying a sunny day is absolutely lovely. I had ordered an iced latte and a croissant. The latte had a really good balance of sweetness and coffee and it came in a glass cup which I really liked. I drank it a bit too quick it was so good. The croissant was super crispy on the outside and warmed. The inside was a bit too doughy but it tasted so good. Honestly I had expected the place to be just like any other little cafe but Mychal's really stood out and had a calm vibe inside. I will definitely be back. read more

What went well? Everything! I love this place, it is wonderful on so many levels. What they're doing for special needs folks is nothing short of amazing. On the numerous occasions I've eaten there, I have been treated very well and the service has been great. The manager goes out of her way to make sure my order is delivered to my satisfaction, and she's so nice! The food is delicious, I especially love the BLTA. The place is decorated so bright and colorful, it always enhances my mood. Once I even got to meet the owner who shared with me the history of Mychal's and how it came to be. Lovely breakfast and lunch spot! I had the full breakfast with gluten free toast and the jam was freshly made in-house. My husband got a huge egg salad sandwich with soup that he said was delicious. My kids each had the yogurt parfait with granola and fresh fruit. My hot chai was excellent. I also bought a "choose love" sweatshirt from their gift shop. I finally made it to Mychal's Cafe with my parents and we all loved it. Everything from the brightly lit and sweetly designed space to the amazing friendly service to the incredible food. It's definitely going to become a go-to spot for breakfast or lunch. We ordered the breakfast burrito, breakfast sandwich, and açaí bowl and everything was extremely delicious. The quality and portions were also very impressive. I literally can't wait to return and try some more things. The little shop inside is also very cool and I bookmarked a few things to grab for gifts. The food we received was a 5. Service was probably a 2 at the beginning then maybe went up to a 3. When we arrived we got a menu a n d stepped back since we werent ready to order. Once we were ready we stepped to the counter 3 girls behing the counter saw us and we are standing there just waiting for them to take the order. Took about 5min 2 girls were doing anything the other was making coffee. They even got in front of us by the register and I thought they were going to take the order. No acknowledgement like hi or we will be right with you. Nothing. So im standing there until the girl that was making coffee comes up says nothing just looking at us. We finally ordered. My husband says maybe the other girls dont take the orders so yeah maybe. We sat down and realized we missed something so went back up to order stood in line and the other 2 girls did take orders they just didnt take ours earlier even if they werent doing anything. Stopped by Mychal's cafe on Friday with my mom and sister. It was around 10:30/11 am and I was hungry enough to eat more than the typical muffin and a hot drink. I ordered a grilled cheese plus bacon with a green salad, a chai latte with oat milk (they have tons of milk options!), and a snickerdoodle cookie. While waiting for my food I walked around and admired the artwork on the walls (created by Mychal's students), the bright lighting, and the overall open airy feeling of the cafe. Shortly after we sat at a table, a staff member brought my chai followed closely by my sandwich and salad. The sandwich was perfect, it had the most beautiful grill marks on the bread! Not too cheesy, not too much bacon, not too small, not too large. Plus the salad had the perfect amount of dressing. I should note I'm a notoriously picky eater. The service was friendly and helpful. I'm looking forward to going back and trying other options on the rather large and varied menu. read more
