Doug the manager is an angel. There are folks who always always always smile, are kind, are welcoming, and Doug is it. Food: a great variety from savory soups to plant-based options and GF options and smoothies and coffees/match latte. Breakfast is yummmy. Lunch is yummmy. Baked goods: there is often a GF option-appreciate that it was wrapped separately and there's regular baked goods and seasonal treats too that will make your tummy happy. Gifts: they've got stickers and cards and hats and gear so I come when I need a gift too. Aisles are nice and wide for accessibility and parking lot in back is spacious and accessible off a residential street and easy to get in and out of. You can also park on the larger street called Artesia Blvd. Best is the vibe: this place makes sure that all are given respect and a way to contribute and flourish with an awareness of any disabilities and all dreams. A gem with a heart! Visited Mychal's Cafe today. First, the mission behind this cafe is inspiring--they provide opportunities for people with disabilities to learn valuable job skills. In my 20s, I worked as a Case Manager, helping people with disabilities find jobs in the community. I would assign job coaches to train them, fostering inclusion and helping them lead fulfilling lives. Walking into Mychal's Cafe brought back those memories and warmed my heart. I had the pleasure of meeting the founder Ed and Doug, who trains the students with disabilities. They have a wonderful set up! Wish them continued success! Now, onto the food and drinks: the COFFEE was excellent--full of flavor. The food was delis as well, though I would have enjoyed it a bit hotter (it arrived warm, but not piping). That small detail aside, everything tasted fresh and satisfying. And the almond bar and coffee cake, perfectly warmed up and paired well with my vanilla latte. The service was outstanding--friendly, patient, welcoming, creating an overall positive atmosphere. The ambiance was clean, cute and cozy, making it the perfect spot to relax or catch up with a friend. We sat in the patio in the back, to soak up a little Vitamin D:) Plenty of parking in the back lot too. I can't recommend this place enough! First, let me say that the meaning of this place is to help youth and young adults with disabilities to help them build independence. It's a beautiful thing for what this place is doing for people with disabilities. I hope to see this place become super popular. It's definitely for a wonderful cause. Prices are lower than most places and they give you a good amount of food. I ordered the breakfast sandwich on a croissant with tater tots. It was very filling. The egg was nice and fluffy and cooked perfectly. I also tried a bite of Jackson's BLTA. It was good. We also got an order of buttermilk pancakes. It was good too. This place is GREAT. Not only do you get a happy vibe when you walk in--decor is colorful and bright, dining room is super clean and uncomplicated--but we were greeted warmly upon entering. You order at the counter and everything sounded delicious, making it hard to decide on what to try! I settled on the breakfast panini with a side of fresh fruit, along with a chai latte. It didn't take long for our food to come out to us and I loved the beautiful presentation. Everything we had was fantastic and our server was really sweet. The manager came out to check on us and was receptive to our feedback (which was how wonderful the soup was and that it should be on the regular menu!). In addition to being a great eatery, they also have merch (stickers, tshirts, notecards, drink ware), some of which they print in their printshop. I bought a couple of stickers and every time I look at them it's going to make me smile and think of Mychal's and the important work they're doing, literally and figuratively. What a hidden gem! As someone with celiac, I can be really hesitant to try new places and risk getting glutened. I popped into Mychal's Cafe this morning when my regular coffee shop was unexpectedly closed and at first played it safe with a latte - which was delicious - and ended up staying for lunch after chatting with some of the employees and a manager about how they handle food allergies. My salad was huge and they surprised me with some gluten free toast (toasted in a dedicated slot to be careful of cross contact). It tasted like actual bread which is such a win in the GF world. The worst part of my experience here was the manager lady. From the moment we walked in, we saw her act in such a passive aggressive, condescending manner to the employees. The employees were sweet and were just doing their jobs, I have no complaints with them. Not only that, we waited over 35 minutes for our order and wouldn't have ever gotten our food if I didn't go up and ask where it was. At some point they called out a name for an order that was totally not the name we gave them. We were one of the first customers in the cafe in the morning and the manager definitely saw us waiting for over 30min with no food. If there's a cold takeout order unclaimed for over 30min and that same customer has been waiting in the shop for over 30min, isn't it obvious you should check if that's their order? This was a mistake so it wouldn't have mattered as much... IF the manager lady wasn't so condescending and snapping orders to her employees the whole time we were sitting there waiting. A social enterprise by Mychal's Learning Place, this fresh American eatery provides quality meals in a casual environment while creating employment and job training for youth with developmental disabilities. The soft opening began Wednesday, and the hours will be expanded after the ribbon cutting. The former Natural World Market space is newly remodeled, spacious, airy and beautiful. As noted above, the food is prepared by individuals with developmental disabilities. The space is available for parties, weddings, showers, etc. There is a nice outdoor patio for al fresco dining that I will post a photo of later. There is also merchandise for purchase. On to the food: The grilled cheese was crunchy and oozing with cheesy goodness. Looking forward to trying other menu items like the panini. The salad was fresh and good although methinks it needed just a tad more dressing. The croutons were a bit large and overly crunchy for my taste so I left them behind. Once you get to a certain age you realize that getting crowns for your teeth are expensive! Had a nice chat with Ed, the founder of Mychal's Learning Place. The cafe will be expanding once the Box Brothers business next door moves to a new space. A great addition to the neighborhood! read more

I finally made it to Mychal's Cafe with my parents and we all loved it. Everything from the brightly lit and sweetly designed space to the amazing friendly service to the incredible food. It's definitely going to become a go-to spot for breakfast or lunch. We ordered the breakfast burrito, breakfast sandwich, and açaí bowl and everything was extremely delicious. The quality and portions were also very impressive. I literally can't wait to return and try some more things. The little shop inside is also very cool and I bookmarked a few things to grab for gifts. The food is great and the portions are a good size for the price. We ordered the Breakfast Burrito which was a good size and packed full of ingredients. The Two Egg Scramble was a really good sized portion, we needed a to-go box in the end. Both were delicious and there was no skimping on eggs and sausage. You order at the counter and the staff bring out your drinks and food. We came on a Sunday morning and it wasn't crowded at all. There is outdoor seating so you could bring a pet. The facilities are really clean and easy access. Parking in the back which you enter from a back street but is well marked. Very nice place to come in and just relax a bit. Walking in it's really nice how much light came in from the large windows. There's plenty of seating and even extra outdoor seating, so enjoying a sunny day is absolutely lovely. I had ordered an iced latte and a croissant. The latte had a really good balance of sweetness and coffee and it came in a glass cup which I really liked. I drank it a bit too quick it was so good. The croissant was super crispy on the outside and warmed. The inside was a bit too doughy but it tasted so good. Honestly I had expected the place to be just like any other little cafe but Mychal's really stood out and had a calm vibe inside. I will definitely be back. read more
