Discovering "The Great Room Cafe" was as unexpectedly amazing as if my good friend Sheny & I had each discovered a precious gem in our respective pockets! Unable to locate a restaurant as we drove aimlessly down Artesia Blvd, I'd decided to search the Google Map Application "Restaurants nearby" which led us directly to choosing this simple and emaculate cafe housed in an impressive artistically designed building that, I was concerned, might be a bit more on the fancy side. To my delight, it was an airy and welcoming atmosphere where we were immediately welcomed with a smile by a genuinely warm young woman (Anna E.) whom was as helpful and amiable speaking English as she was Spanish with us! With only one hour for breakfast, we each experienced the smoothest most delicious coffee which is every bit as smooth as the coffee I grind and prepare at home, and I daresay it may be even better! My 1st cup with cream and sugar was remarkable, and this was followed by the breakfast burrito that was a cut above many others containing the perfect balance of scrambled eggs, sausage links cut the perfect size, a small amount of hash browns, and white cheese. This was just the right amount to share along with the french fries (crinkle cut) we also shared. My second refilled cup of coffee finished an amazing breakfast and was taken simply black. This was the nicest finish to a remarkable breakfast, and I look forward to coming to enjoy the live music they have on a specific day I cannot recall, but Sheny and I pinky promised with Anna E. to return for more of their delicious fare we have merely tipped the scales with what they have to offer. I'm already planning on bringing more friends even though no one I know lives nearby! Lastly, this five star restaurant may be down to Earth, but it also has the cleanest bathroom I have experienced outside of very neat homes of families! I wanted to get a little bit of writing/homework done but also get a decent meal and the great room has always been an amazing place for this. When I got to the front door, I see that there's another change of ownership and I'm hoping that this place keeps taking because it is such a unique spot. I do feel like the food is better than the last time I came - more to the quality levels I would have received back in the day. The night I went in they were having a large event in the way back, so I was happy to see that. There was only one person taking orders, providing service for that event, and delivering food to everybody and I wish I had written her name down because she was super friendly and super helpful and got everything right with my order! I've heard about the Great Room for networking events so after my husband met a friend there for breakfast and liked it. The space is really interesting. It's super family-friendly and there are additional game type of rooms great for kids's parties, events, etc. At the register, I noticed a sign recommending ordering more food to support the business (?). I dont think I've ever seen a sign like that before. My expectations of the food was higher. Anyway, I ordered wings which included drummettes and they were deep fried (I forgot to double check that). These were ok. My husband said his salad was pretty good. Son said burger meat was a little tough. The fries looked like the frozen crinkle fries. Overall, I think this is another great venue for events. The food is OK. Not bad. read more

We stopped here Saturday for dinner and got a bbq bacon pizza and kids mac and cheese. The pizza was pretty good and it was actually a lot more pizza than I thought we'd get. I didn't actually taste the bacon though so not sure what happened there. My son didn't care fo the mac and cheese and said it tasted weird, I tried it and didn't like it either. Not sure what kind of cheese they use but he wasn't a fan. He did like the pizza! Might come back to try something else on the menu and maybe work for a bit? So some people in the back lounge area are jamming out to karaoke while other people could be having tea and coffee in the front booth area lol if your not doing karaoke it's not too loud for the people in the booth. I really wanted to eat here. There was an amazing menu, and I couldn't wait to try the Garden Salad. We were seated by the gentleman behind the counter quickly--and the guy was hustling. Bouncing from table to table, making smoothies and such. So when we were waiting a bit for him to take out for about 10 minutes, we understood. I was relieved to see a server arrive. Unfortunately she, another woman and who I think was the chef were having an animated conversatio in the back. I tried to get their attention. No luck. I drive by this new cafe daily and it always looks busy because of a full parking lot. Today I decided to go in and wow, it was not busy at all. They have a fantastic menu for breakfast and lunch. Not sure if they're open for dinner or not. The guy that helped us was very friendly and helpful. We took a seat on the small patio since it's a beautiful, sunny day here in Southern California. You're supposed to order your food at the counter and then they'll deliver it to your table. We didn't realize that so our guy took our order at the table. We had the egg scramble, calamari and a latte. Nice portion size and very reasonably priced. I love the healthy options on their menu as well as lots of comfort food options. If you want to support local, independent businesses, The Great Room is perfect! - Very reasonable prices - The menu with familiar dishes that are executed well -- much better than you would get at a chain - Plenty of room to hang out for a while with friends, a book, or a laptop I can understand that people are annoyed by the $15 minimum, but it is such a good spot for laptop work that it could easily be filled up with people people spending five dollars on a coffee and staying for three hours-- which isn't a viable business model. My kid is too young for any of the activity rooms, but there is seriously a ton of stuff here that could keep a kid or many kids busy. read more

I can understand that you are trying to grow, but that is not your customers' responsibilities. I had a pleasant experience getting some work done this morning at the cafe. The staff is super nice and welcoming. I ordered the breakfast burrito made fresh of course with the addition of some avocado and it came with the side of hash-browns. The cafe was super clean as always. I was provided access to the WiFi with my purchase. $15 minimum to seat and dine new rules to the cafe. The cafe is a solid spot if you're trying to get work done, start a slow morning. 1st time here. Came to a car event hosted my Southern Cal Corvair Club and Gas Rats Customs. It was a nice small gathering of car people. This inside is spacious and lost of room to sit and relax and they also have game room and a pool table. Grabbed a coffee while I was there. They have the core classics for coffee fans. Made a great first impression! Parking was easy, and my food was served hot about five minutes after I placed my order. I'm looking forward to trying their $8 cocktails next time. Very chill place with half couches and half tables and booths over two large rooms as well as outdoor seating (has heaters, hasn't been cold enough to be on yet). We have come a couple times to read, work and play board games. We've also seen other parties play board games here. The food is reasonably priced, comes quickly and is good enough. No, you aren't getting farm to table Michelin quality, but you are getting a large amount of food. Who still has coffee for $2?! I do not have kids but appreciate places that are family friendly with options for parents (including alcoholic drinks). Came here for a baby shower and was able to enjoy this place with some great service and entertainment that they provide. They have their own parking lot, so when you park it should be quite easy to get inside. Once you go inside, you are immersed in an open room with different parts that is separated for ordering, dining, and lounging. If you go further inside, they have additional rooms that is an activity room for kids, and another room that is for people to host parties. Food I was able to try some of the food that came with the party, the fried chicken, the pasta stood out to me. It was nice that they had juice, soda, utensils and all the food ready for the guests to enjoy. Just wish that their plates weren't so flimsy. Activity Room This room had so many things, ping pong table, to computers to play video games, to a huge connect 4, to even small arcade machines to play classic games like street fighter. The wifi wouldn't work the whole time I was there- which of course I didn't realize until after I'd ordered. The food (breakfast burrito + hazelnut latte) was just mid, I could've gotten the same or likely better anywhere else. I could've make both better at home tbh but I wanted to be in a nice study space which was why I came. I was unable to get any work done which was the reason I came and I ended up paying for lame food for no reason. Probably won't come back unless they upgrade their wifi. read more

This is a popular place for families. We arrived at 3:30pm on a Tuesday a week before Christmas. One of the Moms from preschool and her kids recognized our kiddo and came over to say hi; that felt good that other local families are happy to bring their kiddos here. The cashier was Anali and her manager Yolanda delivered the food and bussed the tables. The cashier was very patient (and pleasant) with me, as I kept going up to ask for scissors as we had activities for the kiddos and needed the scissors to open the packets. We didn't use any of the teenager centric play rooms as our kiddos were 4 years old. It would have cost a discounted $5 per person since we had purchased food. They charge $10 per person if you're there just for the fun rooms. You place your food order with the cashier and get a table number flag (similar to places like Shake Shack); this makes it easier for group gatherings so you don't have to worry about splitting checks. Sit wherever you want; however, they asked for notice for groups of 5+. There's a lot of a la cart food items to purchase, for kiddos and to keep your costs down. This was a "healthy" option. We didn't add any protein. We left an empty very large bowl: FARMERS MARKET SALAD $12.00 I loved my burger, especially with the avocado. I tried the side salad and really enjoyed the jalapeño aioli ranch dressing, at the suggestion of the cashier. For take out, I already know I'd order another chocolate shake. Sometimes it's a science to figure out which items travel well and which items are best enjoyed onsite, no matter where you're ordering from. I didn't try any of the food items that got bad reviews; I always look at reviews before I come into a new place. I didn't come when it was super busy, so I didn't have to wait to be seated nor did we encounter harried & tired waitstaff / cashiers. I loved that the cashier's manager was an equal partner to her staff. Yolanda and Anali both bussed our tables, so that we weren't surrounded by our own dishes as we continued to talk after eating. So I always use to come to this place since they closed down the first time, I love there food especially there Asian garlic noodles. I would least come in two time week, but ever since they changed management prices have gone up ( I understand everything is expensive), but the number one thing that pissed me off is that I have to waste at least 15 bucks to get WiFi?! I understand you're a small business but having to waste 15 bucks for WiFi is absurd. This is no way of gaining business it more like losing customers. I have been to the new Great room now several times for breakfast and lunch and the food has always been fantastic. It is not your ordinary breakfast or lunch spot with the same basic food. They have many different food items that other restaurants don't have and a great selection to choose from. The food was also very reasonably priced and the portions were larger than I could eat so I usually get to take some home. My order taker (David) was friendly, polite and helpful with my order. The entire restaurant was spotless and very clean which was nice to see. They also have meeting rooms and play rooms which I can see using in the future with work or my kids. At lunch today it was super quiet, no families, kids or any classified documents....er, I mean there was not one person emitting any noise above a soft hum. Nice! I can see why TGRC is a favorite for many - loads of space, cushy couches, tables, chairs and what I understand is a super kids space. Easy to locate and plenty of parking. Food? Good at best, I'd admit we were underwhelmed. Great that there's wine and beer...who needs an excuse to sip a glass or pint? No excuses here, in my opinion imbibing is a lifestyle best served in abundance. The menu looks and sounds fantastic but todays BBQ Bacon burger nor the Chicken Pesto sandwich weren't amazing. Not at all bad, just not something for which we would make a special visit. The burger was cooked through - I prefer medium rare - but after the first bite I was glad it was cooked through. The beef wasn't anything near prime or choice and likely it was a pre-formed patty (if it wasn't pre-formed, I'd recommend whomever assembles the burger patties to not overwork the ground beef, the texture wasn't optimal.) Greens were fresh, tomatoes were less than nicely ripened. Brioche, blue cheese and bacon were all good. The chicken pesto sandwich was good with artichoke hearts and sweet sundried tomatoes - but didn't thrill in the grill department - missing was that char taste I know and love. Pesto was tasty which saved the sandwich. The fries won't win awards - almost an afterthought. These weren't fresh hot out of the fryer and possibly lacked a sprinkle or two of salt. I just want fresh, hot fries...know what I mean? All the food we had today would easily pass as good for many. Their iced mocha stays true to its name with its chocolate-y coffee goodness. *drool* It definitely kept me awake during my long study sessions. The food is great in portion. I had the garlic cream with added chicken and it was absolutely filling from the amount of pasta and creaminess of the sauce. The chicken was juicy and there was a grandiose portion. I was literally fighting to finish the whole thing but pasta 1-joanne 0. Ambiance (5/5): The Great Room is such a multi-faceted place. Want to celebrate a birthday? Have a study session? Sad to see once a favorite place, not care about their customers. We were sad when they closed down, and so excited when they reopened, even with the same menu! Unfortunately, the new ownership came with so much change that we don't feel welcome anymore. The new policies seem so profit focused that customer service went out the window. They have about 5 tables and 2-3 couches in the front, and if you want to sit elsewhere, they charge you. If you want to use the internet, they charge you, as you now need to spend at least $15 for the password , so you can't just order coffee. On my last visit I found this out, which wasn't no big deal because we usually enjoyed bfast and coffee here. Now imagine having to pay and there was no internet ; when we brought this to the attention of the owner, she simply didn't care. Not even an apology, and the prideful attitude was off putting. She made us feel like she was doing us a favor, no apology or anything. We had been there the day before and there was no internet, we had bfast and coffee. We called ahead to make sure there was internet and they assured us it was fixed. We came in to find a new policy on minimum spending but no working internet. Not to mention that when weather was still warm, the AC didn't work and it was very warm inside. Maybe they just want to be exclusive? Well, they're taking the right path. We are now looking for a new place to have bfast and coffee and have our meetings. Food is not bad but nothing super special either.
