I've tried three places on 72nd street in the UWS and by far this is the cleanest and most professional nail salon there are. The place isn't big and it is on the second floor but once inside EVERYTHING is clean from the furniture to the tools they use. Cleanliness is crucial for me in nail salons. Mani and Pedi with 20 minutes message is $57. I've done both regular mani and gel and were satisfied with both. The gel manis basically last as long as I would want them to, as in I come for refill because my nails are too long and not because they are chipping off. Make an appointment on weekends! read more

I have gone for at least a decade and they are really excellent. I know most of the women there and they always greet you and ask about your kids, etc. They are fantastic overall. I have not been there since Covid , but I really hope they stay in business and the women still have a job! The women work really hard and don't really get breaks - so keep that in mind when tipping, etc. Some of the comments written by others are unfair and unkind. These women work so hard and probably get paid almost nothing. It doesn't really get better when it comes to nail salons - they are very clean and sanitize, etc. The only problem are the loud customers on their phones who ruin the experience for others! I actually had to think long and hard about writing this review because I wasnt sure if I wanted the world to know about Nails by Young.. They are that good. This is THE place to go to get your shellac manicure done. For $45 you get a regular pedicure and a shellac manicure. I have had shellac done at very high end chi chi salons (like Jin Soon) and the difference between them and Nails by Young is day and night. Even though this place gets packed, they take their time and do every nail so carefully that this manicure literally lasts for weeks on end. They look absolutely PERFECT. The only reason I have it redone after 2-3 weeks or so is because my nails grow fairly quickly and I get nail "roots". Its the perfect manicure to get before a big event or before you are going on a trip because its seriously indestructible. Anyway, now that I have let the cat out of the bag-- if you are in the market for a shellac manicure or a gel manicure of any kind (they also do regular gel and OPI axxium), this is the place to go. read more

Being one of the top rated nail salons for gel manicures in my area, I tried out Nails by Young. The place is clean and spacious and the service is super friendly, but despite using CND Shellac gel polish, 8 hours of after my manicure, the polish was peeling on two nails. Fortunately, I called on the next business day and they were more than happy to fix them free of charge. Sorry, but the hassle of having messed up nails and having to go back and have them fixed (and re-tip) is not worth it to me. I'll go with the actual top rated nail salon. ;) Not recommended. read more

As soon as the technician began the manicure I knew it was going to be bad. I should've left right then before paying $37 for the worst gel manicure I've gotten. To start, she removed my previous gel polish by scraping my nails so hard they began to throb. Then, when it came time to trim my cuticles, she rushed through this so quickly I could see hangnails on multiple fingers. As a result, the finished product looks like something a child could've done for me at home. Here's a photo of the results less than 24 hours later. Great nail salon in the UWS neighborhood and exceeded my expectations. I did a lot of research on nearby salons and was turned off by places like Pinky's when I walked in and the manager was SO aggressive. When I moved to the hood from UES, was sad to leave my fave nail spot on the east side and didn't fee confident I'd find a similar spot on the UWS until I found Nail By Young. This salon is clean, efficient, quiet and the employees are all kind and patient and respective of one another. You don't feel rushed in there. It's also extremely conveniently close to the 72nd Street subway station and even with out an appointment, I've never had to wait longer than 20-30 min. Luz is my favorite! Very patient, does an excellent job. They have a huge selection of nail polishes and gel nail polishes - especially Essie gel nail polishes! Rare to come by in nail salons. Well priced and they have a frequent customer card / punch card, which is always a perk. read more

Perfect, clean, friendly, convenient, no frills, cheapy spot for a pedicure! $19 is a great price, considering the crappier places that I have been that charged far more and were way worse. There was no wait; there are plenty of chairs and drying stations. They also had the major nail polish brands and a good assortment (though not the most extensive I've seen) of colors. I've been going to Nail by Young for 2+ years now. Young is fantastic, super sweet, and does fabulous UV gel nails. I had french tip pink UV gels for about a year and a half and my nails were always so perfect looking. For my wedding day, she especially was meticulous in crafting the perfect set of nails! I got a set from another salon prior to going to Yong and they always cracked and chipped. Young uses the latest products and she finds the perfect method to ensure your nails look great for as long as possible. The space is nothing fancy but everthing is clean and the room is pretty large for NYC standards. The pedicure chairs also give great massages! It's also inexpensive. 24.99 for both mani pedi, plus they last! They use very high quality products and the polish dries quickly, almost like they are using some kind of quick dry top coat (though you don 'pay extra for it) I've introduced tons of people here, and they remember everyone BY NAME. Every holiday season they give me a little gift too. They are super nice! I was scared to let everyone know about my little gem of a nail salon as sometimes it can get crowded but I feel like they deserve the extra business! read more

The facts: I've been going to Nails by Young (NBY) for the last 2.5 years on average every 3-4 weeks for a regular mani/pedi. Why I love this place: - Cleanliness: NBY is really clean and I never question if the tools used on my hands and feet have been cleaned b/c they ARE clean. - Service is great: Not only is every woman who works there warm and friendly, I trust each woman who works there to provide detailed work on my nails. In the last 2.5 years, I've only had to wait/come back 3 times b/c there was a wait. - Great product: My manicures last at least a week before chipping. NBY has plenty of nail color options, always updated with OPI's newest, seasonal colors, and the colors are not watered down. The pedicure chairs are also comfy with working and effective massage chairs. I also appreciate the plentitude of magazines available to read. - Great value: $25 for a mani/pedi, anytime M-Sat, for all of the above is a great deal! My tip: NBY do not have an American Express acceptance sticker on their shop window but they do in fact take the card. read more

hmmm not sure what happened but the last time I went there and got the gel nails done like usual, they peeled off pretty quickly! I don't know if it was a different brand of gel nail polish. I don't go to this place anymore because they don't use CND shellac. you MUST see that they are using CND or its not worth paying for shellac nails anywhere. read more

This place really is the best! I have several nail salons in my own neighborhood but I still cab it down to 72nd Street to come here. Weekly manicures are de riguer in nyc but I was sick of spending the $ for a weekly mani and having my polish chip after three days. I heard about the new gel manicures and wanted to give it a try and after reading reviews here on yelp, I headed to Nails by Young. I had the OPI Axxium Soak Off Gel Manicure. I had them use the "bubble bath" color which is pretty close to essie's "ballet slipper". Unlike other gel manicures it didn't require a lot of filing or heavy buffing of my (already thin) nails. The process took a little longer than a regular manicure but the drying time was great as they dry under UV lights...I walked out with no fear of smudging my polish. I have tried other types of "long lasting" manicures before, like permanent french tips, acrylics, silk wraps, other types of gel manicures (like those offered at dashing diva) -- but have never gotten the results I wanted and always end up going back to the old standard manicure that chips after a few days. I am very happy with my experience at Nails By Young, both with the nail technician and the OPI Gel manicure. It is two weeks later and my manicure is still perfect. Seriously. My nails have grown out and there are no chips in the polish. My nails feel much stronger too. The prices were reasonable and the staff very efficient. The decor is not the most luxurious and some may balk at the 2nd floor location, but this was the most satisfying manicure I have ever had. As an aside, while I was there I saw a woman getting her gels done by Young...she was talking to a friend of hers and said "I went out of the country and they lasted for 4 weeks...she's the best!" There was also a very demanding woman there who was getting gels and then wanted her eyebrows done "but only if the person is really really good, I don't want to take a chance" -- despite her rudeness, she emerged from the treatment room with perfect eyebrows. read more

I have been to Nails by Young 3 times now, all three times for the Shellac Manicure. MEH! The shellac manicure here holds nothing to Dashing Diva, Sakura or Marie Nail's. The manicure barely lasts a week, which is ridiculous considering I have gotten 4 weeks out of Calgel and 2.5 from Dashing Diva. I got my last shellac manicure on Friday and I am writing this review with a chip. Seriously? $35 every 2 weeks and a chip? The pedicure was basic, no frills and a massage that left much to be desired. I got there early and no one offered me a drink or even if I wanted to soak my feet (which my feet could and would have appreciated a nice warm water soak after standing all day). My pedicure chipped on thursday so that was a waste of money as well. Sorry Young but third time isn't the charm for me. I've gotten better pedicures in the hood. read more

I've lived on the UWS for a couple years and rarely get my nails done, but may reconsider now that I know this gem is nearby. $25 for a great pedicure? Sign me up! Came here mid-day on a Weds. I called before to check and see if I could walk-in and they said yes. I show up and am immediately greeted and escorted to a pedicure chair. The service was quick, friendly, professional and my pedi is long-lasting. The location is kind of hidden because it's on the second floor, but I like that because it means less people to compete with for an appointment if you're just dropping in. The manicurist in my previous nail salon left and I found Nails by Young on Yelp. I didn't request for a specific manicurist and think I must be assigned to someone inexperience. I requested for Shellac French manicure, and this manicurist did a poor job. The white tip was unevenly applied, and not proportionate to the length of my shorter nails. I was very disappointed but I could tell that she was less experienced with French manicures. I guess I have learnt my lesson to make sure to request for for someone more experienced in future. read more

This is the worst pedi I got in MY LIFE!! If I could rate 0 stars, I would. I generally want to support the local businesses in my neighborhood and I try not to be a bitch. But I got my pedicure done less than a week ago and my toes look unacceptable. The nail polish chipped already and my cuticles look awful. I wanted a 30 min reflexology that these people claim they do. The girl that did my pedicure didn't even know what I was talking about. Not to say she had no idea about reflexology period. So based on all the good reviews, I went here for a basic pedicure and reflexology. It started out nice enough but I had to point out where to concentrate more during the pedicure. She sighed and did it reluctantly. The reflexology massage.....eh, could have been much better and did not relieve my tired feet what so ever. So onto the drying...I was seated and the pedicure began to dry....I waited, and waited, and waited....while the nail technicians were in the corner cleaning nail polish bottles. I had to check my nails to see if they were dry and finally I decided enough was enough. No one came to check on me nor did the ladies look up from cleaning once. I undid all the cotton and threw away the disposable slippers and began to put on my boots. Even this didn't prompt any movement from the technicians.....ok?!?! not ok. I pointed this out to the head man behind the register asking if it was their normal practice to have the client check their own drying and undoing of everything. He just said "they should be dry now and oh, yes they were cleaning". Uh, hello? really? Is that an excuse I should be ok with that they were cleaning? Spring is here, time to show off our pretty toes along with perp-toes heels and comfy flip-flops! Decided to drop by to young's after reading all the review. It was great to be able to get an appointment at the last minute and I even called to change the original booking to an hour earlier. The location is great, easy to spot even though they are on 2nd floor. The owner will await for you, holding the door for you and greet you with warm welcome. I did the shellac pedicure for 45bux, and sitting in the massage chair while my feet & toes get all the pampering was fabulous and they have good selection of magazines. The parlor is clean and tidy and think they have around 10 manicurists. Took around an hour to get my pedicure done and I love it! This will definitely be my default nails place from now! read more

I am very impressed with the gel manicure I received here. I went in around 11 am on a Saturday and there was no wait. The woman who helped me was amazing - there was a great attention to detail and my nails look and feel amazing! Also lots of options available for gel manicure colors as well as regular manicure colors. The space itself is very quaint and relaxing, given the fact it's on the UWS. You ring a doorbell and go up to the 2nd floor, and you enter into a space that feels very open and relaxing. It's not the largest nail salon I've been in, but they use the space wisely and I never once felt claustrophobic. It was $37 for my gel manicure and I was out of there relatively quickly - within a half hour. They allow you to use your debit or credit card to pay for the service if it was at least $15, but tips must be in cash. I am definitely coming back here and adding in a pedicure next time! read more

I've been here twice and both times I was greeted with an open hand and open door by the manager (?) - a very smiley guy who will hang up your coat and point you in the right direction for whatever you're doing. He gets ya all set up. I've only had a pedicure done here ($18) but it was great and came with the whole caboodle, including a few minutes of massaging my legs and feet. Toes were painted nicely and I was never in pain from any of it. Everything also seemed pretty clean (I saw them wash the bin after the other woman's feet were out of it). I would maybe suggest getting a manicure and pedicure together, as I think you get more for your buck with that. They have all kinds of package deals. And skip the massage. I've never been in so much pain! And they set you up in the middle of the room while all the girls getting their nails and toes done gawk at you. Awkwarddd. Oh how I adore Nails By Young. They only get four stars because the place is named "Nails By Young." Horrid. Just kidding. Not really. Every time I go, it is busy yet I am seen within 5 minutes at least. It is AWESOME. The nice little guy who runs the door takes your coat and makes you feel like you're at a fancy place (not named Nails By Young). There are one or two ladies who don't do as good of a job as the others so if you sense you're in the middle of a "half-assed manicure attack"...I have no advice. We all must make sacrifices. They were amazingly nice. Now when I say amazingly nice I mean come downstairs and help you carry up your bags amazingly nice. I mean turn the pages in your book while nails dry amazingly nice. The spot is tucked away up on the 2nd floor, which makes me sad that they may not have as much foot traffic come by. It's sunny, spacious and clean. Prices are not bad and color selection is quite extensive-even for gel manicures. I paid $37 for my gel mani, which to be honest was more than I was expecting but I would totally go back. I went here for a mani/pedi because they do the gel nails and I needed my nails to last for two weddings. I went with two friends so that made the experience more enjoyable. I take away a star because the lady who did my nails didn't talk to me at all. It just made it kind of awkward. The mani/pedi was $50 I think. They only take the tip in cash so have that on hand. Also, my friend who got the gel nails too went back a few days later because they started peeling. The guy gave her a manicure for free without her having to argue in the least. You have to trek up a long, scroungy flight of stairs in a dumpy building to reach this awful salon. They do not have sanitized pouches of manicure utensils. I got a full set of tips with UV gel on top and 4 of them completely broke off within 5 days. They were crooked and uneven when I left (with some nails several millimeters longer than the same nail on the other hand), and I was not happy, to say the least. Within two days, the first nail broke off, and I was not doing anything out of the ordinary. The owner gave me a refund but not the twenty dollar tip I gave her - the place is depressing and the quality of work is way below average. Stay away! read more

My manicure from Nails by Young was alright, but I'm not switching my loyalties anytime soon. I usually get OPI axxium manicures, but the people at Nails by Young highly suggested I do a shellack manicure instead- saying it lasts longer and looks better. The girl did a great job, but here I am three days later with a huge chip in one of my nails. I've never had that experience with OPI. Wondering if something was overlooked in the manicure process. However, I did call and they told me I can come back and have it fixed, so that's good. The people here aren't particularly nice, either. I waited for about 20 minutes past my appointment time and was ignored during that time, I didn't see anyone smile the whole time I was there, and I was scolded for asking if I can tip on my credit card (no cash=horrible habit. Nail By Young left an excellent impression on me. From the moment I walked in I was helped, and the lady at the front helped me choose the right color for my pedicure, even going so far as to test the colors on her own nails so I could see. The lady who did my actual pedicure was wonderful as well. She got the massage chair going, clipped my nails nicely, and handled my cuticles with great care. I usually never get my cuticles pushed back or trimmed since I'm so sensitive, but she did it so carefully and delicately that I did not feel any pain and the end result was wonderful. The callus removal part was a little short, but everything else was great. Pricing was reasonable, dare I even say on the cheap side considering the service) I would definitely be back for another, and I might go for a manicure next time as well. read more

Today was my second visit to Nail by Young, it was just as wonderful as my first!! I've been to a decent amount of nail salons in the city but am so glad to have found this gem which will be my go-to nail salon going forward. I got a gel manicure and regular pedicure for $59. They have an amazing selection of colors and I have been able to match my gel polish to the regular polish both times. The technicians are kind and polite and the place itself is quite clean. My gel manicure lasted 4 weeks, with no peeling! I finally returned simply because my nails had grown out so much and it was time. I would recommend booking an appointment as this place can get pretty busy. Anyone looking for a quality mani/pedi will not be disappointed :) read more

Yelp is kind enough to correct the Engrish of the actual name, Nail By Young. Despite this actual name, they will actually manicure and pedicure all of your nails, and do a fantastic job at it. It's not fancy, but it is clean, and they are not overly pushy about the add-ons. They are spot on with correcting my ingrown toenails, do a slamming callous treatment, and have plenty of coat racks during colder months. It's on a blink and you miss it stretch of 72nd, so it's the perfect drop in while running errands on the UWS. read more

My favorite place to get my nails done. I usually do the $25 mani-pedi but sometimes I get shellac manicure and always love that too. The people there are nice and it is relatively clean. On two occassions I have seen cockroaches on the pedicure seats or in the tubs...but I still go here, so it doesn't bother me that much. We all know there are roaches everywhere in this city.
