From the few times I've visited Naka, I have not been disappointed. The staff ate friendly and attentive, the atmosphere is welcoming, and the food is phenomenal! Came here for a quick dinner after wine fest with my friend and it didn't take long for us to get seated. One thing is that they sat us at a bbq table when they had regular tables open (we weren't doing bbq). So it was annoying to have this grill in the middle of us. We sat there for 15-20 minutes after knowing what we wanted, until someone finally noticed us and took our drinks and even the server thought it was strange that we were seated at the grill table. It didn't take long for the food to come out and minor mishaps happened but overall, we were just ok. Not once the server came to check on us or to refill drinks, but was quick to grab the check for us and take it. I don't think we'll be coming back until they improve their staff. read more

I've come here plenty of times and usually have a really good experience. Tonight however, was an exception. My friend and I visited this establishment for dinner, where I ordered some sushi and she ordered the pad thai. While my sushi was tasty, her pad thai was inedible. My friend requested that no peanuts be in her dish due to a food allergy. They obviously suck at paying attention to detail - and peanuts were added anyway. Her dish was then remade, but not only did it look unappetizing, but I tasted it and it reminded me of flavorless, mushy spaghetti that was left out overnight. Sad day. We then politely asked our waiter (who was actually really nice and understanding of the situation) to return the meal so she could order something else. She requested something else - but alas! They ran out... surprise surprise. She opted for the next best thing - a spicy tuna roll. The spicy tuna roll was good at least. Yay! But the REAL failure of this restaurant is the management. When we received the bill, the pad thai was still included!!!! Seriously? I was even more appalled when we were told that we could only receive a discount on the food item... at 10% off. 10% off? What a slap in the face. A GOOD manager would have been respectful and wouldn't have charged us for the item. We weren't trying to get a free meal - the dish simply sucked. I guess we hurt their feelings, so they obviously had to retaliate. All I can say is that I'm very disappointed. I've liked this place for years, but this experience has convinced me to never return. I loved this sushi spot. Everything was very fresh and delicious, and the staff was attentive. We started off with edamame and monkey balls (tempura fried mushrooms stuffed with tuna and eel). We got a flamingo roll, crunchy roll, and then chef's choice. I especially liked the crunchy roll, it had a fun texture that made it especially good to eat. The chef's choice was amazing, it had tuna and maybe salmon inside, with lightly toasted tuna and roe on top, and 2 savory saucrs on the side. It was a 3/5 before today's rating, now it's embarrassing that we even spent money there. We had the Korean BBQ. We got our waters, placed our soup orders, and the waitress disappeared. Then, the side dishes were dry, like the jalopeno slices, kimchi was minimal, and the bean sprouts were grey. What happened. The sesame oil mixure with salt and pepper tasted diluted sesame oil. I have sampled several sushi places in Albuquerque and I have to say Naka is one of the best. Fresh fish, nice portions and great prices. They even have a happy hour from 3:30p to 5:30p. Sushi chefs are friendly...stop and say hi to Will, and the staff is welcoming. The restaurant is pretty large and they have a cute Koi pond in the front. Had much higher expectations for this restaurant. Our waitress was very nice, however also very inefficient. She was very unfamiliar with the menu and we had to ask several times for water. The tables are covered in large glass pieces on top of the tablecloths; and the edges are very sharp and easily move around when you lean on the table. We got two appetizers, the edamame and the Chile puff. The Chile puff was really good but cut into very uneven sections. The edamame was fine. The dinners all came with soup- all of which tasted burnt somehow. I ordered the Kung pao chicken bento box, my dad ordered the teriyaki salmon bento box, and my mom ordered the eggplant curry with shrimp. The kung pao chicken was absolutely the worst I've had in town. It was flavorless and cold. I almost sent it back, but everything else in the bento box was fine, so I saved myself the time and ate around it. I would say the best thing out of it was the crab wonton. My dad's bento box was okay, the salmon was good, but he did have to ask for more teriyaki sauce as it was rather bland as well. My mom's curry dish was the best out of all of them and we all ended up sharing a bit of that. Overall, I would only return to try the Korean barbecue they offer, otherwise I don't think I will ever return. read more

I do not understand how this place has a high rating. Tonight's visit has to be the worst Sushi experience I have ever had. I've had sushi literally around the world but this took the honors. We were greeted by a friendly hostess who seated us promptly and that was about in terms of positive aspects of your meal. They let us know that no Korean bbq could be served for some reason which was odd. We ordered 2 sashimi and sushi roll combos and a noodle dish. When we were asking questions about our combos the server didn't seem to know what was on the menu or how many rolls came with each combo. We got our order fairly quickly but something seemed amiss. The noodle dish was correct but very bland in terms of flavor. Panda could do better and that's sad. The sashimi smelled off and was either flavorless or off in terms of taste. It was on a bed of unknown shreds that were also unappetizing. We were wondering where our Rolls were and asked the waiter who informed us that she didn't hear us correctly and put in an order for only sashimi. Not a huge mistake and easily fixable. She goes back to get them but comes back and tells us that they can't serve us any more food (2 hours before closing). The hostess comes over and states since they are doing maintenance they can't do any more food orders and are closing now. That would have been nice to know 30 minutes prior to us sitting down. They didn't offer to discount or comp or incorrect order and left it at a sorry. No how was the food or what can I do to make this right from either of them. They brought us the bill and I was left with a sense of utter disappointment paying 20 dollars for a plate of terrible food with a topping of bad service with a side of hunger. I'm not sure if we hit this place at a bad time or if this how it always is. I'm leaning towards the later judging by the previous reviews. Do not go here for sushi! I can't tell you how the food was because we were seated and forgotten. We are patient people and didn't really begin to get frustrated until the third group of people were seated and their drink orders were taken. My friend recommended we go here because according to him this is the only place in ABQ that has good Korean BBQ. The menu offers other choices such a sushi, hence the name. I must say the K-BBQ was amazing, you basically get your meats raw with 6 sides including dipping sauces and garnish such as onions. You cook your own meat on the grill placed on the middle of the table. I tasted the K-BBQ and was pleasantly surprised with how good it was and I mean that because typically I am not a big meat eater. Service was good the waitress was very attentive. That's what's for dinner... The Miso soup was made from the white paste instead of the red and it looked a bit watered down but surprisingly it was just as good as any other miso you'll find in town. The chicken Yaki Soba was fairly bland and for some reason the chicken had a weird spongy texture but otherwise tasted fine. The serving of tuna Nigiri was large and was as fresh as most other places in town. My SO got the Korean stone pot and she said it was fine though some was burnt by the pot. Overall this was fine, nothing great but fine. The prices weren't cheap enough to bring me back, the food wasn't exceptional and the decor was tacky at best (tiger print fabric everywhere).
