This was my family and I to go to sushi place for a couple of years. We have also taken family from out of town here because they USE to have the greatest customer service. Don't know if they are under new management or under staffed. Today and the last time I came here a few months again the service had extremely changed to HORRIBLE. We walked in and it was not that full. They sat us originally at a table and changed it to another while we were half way walking there. They asked for our orders and 10-20 min after placing the orders they told my youngest son that what he ordered which was the MEET AND GREET was not available. Then they serviced my food first which was a bento box, my oldest sons who ordered udon and gave my youngest son his white rice but not his food which was called Beef Tankai. As a family we always wait for each other's food to come and we eat together. I wanted for about another 30 minutes for my youngest son food to come but it didn't arrive. They gave us our sushi which we ate together and still my youngest son food was NOT served. My bento box, my son's udon was cold. The person next to use came 10 minutes after us and their main dishes and sushi's can out. I was livid at this point. I approached the ladies while they were behind the counter chit chatting telling them that I would like only pay for the sushi we ate but NOT our food. They didn't apologize for the long wait but gave me a sour face. This by far has been the worst experience I've had at Naked Fish and didn't appreciate the treatment they gave my family and I. Contrary to some of the other "bad" reviews, when my family went there to grab some sushi and bento boxes, our service was rather painless! The staff there is very pleasant and easy to get along with. There was no resistance that we sensed from them. We ordered to go, so we had a chance to check out their rather expansive menu. It wasn't like we were blown away by the menu, though. It looked like so many other places, but we thought what the hell, let's get some stuff off the menu. After all, we were hungry! Anyway, the order did come out in bunches and not as a whole, something I will not disagree with Re-pley Z. Once we got to our place and started eating, it was the beef teriyaki that blew us away! If there was a way to give this restaurant 2.5 stars I would. I opted for a 3 star rating only because I think the wait staff might have been having an off night. Date and Time of Day: 10/26/2011 630pm - 830pm Service: Inconsistent at best and barely friendly. I find it very amusing that I counted over 8 wait staff on the floor yet we were ignored most of the time. The 3 lovelies behind the bar sure had a fun time turning up the volume on the music which would have been fun if there were more people in the restaurant. There was one large table of 8 with kids and ~ 5 other tables of 2- 3 people. I liked how it took me asking two times for our beer and the waitress said it was coming then came back to ask us what kind of beer we wanted. "Sapporo, a giant bottle, please. " Food: My friend and I ordered grilled octopus legs, agedashi tofu, and toro nigiri for appetizers. Then we ordered uni, walu, tamago all in nigiri form and a spicy tuna roll. Everything was just ok. The best items were the grilled octopus legs, spicy tuna roll and the tamago. The uni was not fresh which explains the bitter bite: fresh uni is sweet. The toro and walu were ok as well. Really fresh fish has a slight snap to it and none of the pieces we ate did. My favorite part of the whole night is when our waitress brought us our bill but never asked us if we wanted any dessert. I wasn't really interested in dessert but was amusingly irritated that I wasn't asked so I had to ask about it. I ordered the green tea ice cream for the sheer principle of it all and it was only OK as well. Two scoops with a bit of whip cream and a sliced strawberry that I wouldn't eat because my friend said it's not organic. There was also a zig zag drizzle of chocolate syrup over the ice cream: very strange but slightly pretty looking. This little delight added $4.95 to our bill. Our bill total came to $59. Not terribly expensive but the food experience was not great. Final Words: Naked Fish is just OK. Would I go back, probably not. I don't live in the area and was in Millbrae just to meet my friend. The food was not bad, but it was a bit pricey. I came here for lunch and dinner on separate days. For lunch, my friend and I each ordered a bento box, hotate nigiri, and a house sushi roll. The box contained a lot of food and cost about 7 or 8 dollars. My bento came with miso soup, beef teriyaki, california roll, assorted tempura, salad, and rice. My friends bento included miso soup, katsu, saba shioyaki, assorted tempura, salad, and rice. The hotate nigiri was like all the others that I have tasted before so there was nothing really special about it. The house sushi roll was different in which they wrapped mango in the center with unagi and topped with some sashimi and tobiko. For dinner, my family and I ordered an appetizer, a couple of sushi rolls, a bento box, and an order of duck breast. The food is not bad, but the sushi rolls can be served in bigger portions. If I remembered correctly, the smallest roll I ordered was the mango tango roll which contained 4 pieces of crab and mango wrapped with cucumber and each in the size of about a quarter for about 7 or 8 dollars. The appetizer that we ordered was called triple threat and came in three shot glasses each filled with a different type of fish and salad as a filler on the bottom of the glass. The duck breast seemed like a big hit at dinner time since a lot of other parties ordered the same plate. If you like your duck breast a little on the medium rare side then the plate is right for you, but since I like mine cooked, I thought the plate tasted a little like metal. The woman who took my order was polite and when I came back to pick up and pay, I had another courteous friendly employee. The food was pretty good - I never try sashimi at a place I'm not very familiar with (or that comes with trusted recommendations) - so I went with cooked food. Had the $8.99 bento boxes - got 2 - salmon, saba, ton katsu, chicken katsu,chicken teriyaki, tofu age. Came with rice, miso soup and a small, but very nice assorted fresh greens salad with light dressing. I thought the pricing was very fair. My husband wolfed down the fish & ton katsu and said everything was fine. I enjoyed the chicken katsu - bread to meat ratio was perfect for me. The chicken teriyaki - which was a very large portion - was skinless and grilled. My only complaint (and it's minor) is that they do not put the sauce on during the grilling process, so it's just plain grilled chicken strips with a little container of sauce on the side. There are VERY few restaurants that do a chicken T. the way I like it best which is - grilled skin on - and sauce on during grilling. So - I'd definitely go back and order take out. I like sushi rolls. If I'm going to a japanese restaurant, that's all I'm going to try with the exception of some edamame or miso soup. This place opened up a couple of months underneath our gym. Needless to say we haven't sat down to eat, because you can hear the constant pounding from weights dropping from the gym. We've been twice and the results have been mixed. The fish wasn't very fresh on our second take out excursion, while the flavor combinations and selection of rolls are pretty solid, the quality was not, at least for the prices. I would recommend the Unagi rolls ( rock and roll unagi) The bento boxes are worth the price - $8.00 with big portions. Beef Teriyaki is my favorite. I've been here 3x since it opened. For a small restaurant, the service needs improvement. Service is 2 stars, food is 3 stars. I keep going back, hoping they'd improve, or maybe the server is just having a bad day. Service is slow, receiving cooked meals is slow, taking your order is slow. The first time, was good. Can't complain. Willing to go back. The second time, party of 6 for dinner. The bento boxes took over 45min!!! Sushi came right away. We were so hungry, we ate all the sushi and was anxiously waiting for our bento boxes. Had a 15% off coupon, this made me feel a little better. The third time, party of 4 for dinner (5:50pm). The host said we have time to order from their Happy Hour menu. We quickly decided and flagged our server since we had little time to order..... The server had to be NEW! The server didn't even know if we were allowed to order from the Happy Hour menu just before 6pm cut off, server said, "let me check".... Then questioned me, when I had asked can we also place an order from the main menu, server said, "Now?" (what kind of question is that to ask your customer!) ..... Then we asked for edamame, which is usually served while you wait, server said, "it's only for dinner time, um, let me check." (it is dinner time, remember!?!?)...... Our meals arrived with good timing. However, when the server set down our dishes, then took away my Aunt's dish and said, "sorry, we gave you too much sashimi". So they took it away and brought to the kitchen. Another server came out and brought out the same dish. Then the original server came back and striped away the dish again!!! Apparently the "new server" wrote down double order of sashimi. At this point, I'm pissed. Then my Cousin's dish was wrong as well, received Teriyaki salmon instead of Teriyaki chicken. The server checked her paper and was tallying our meals to finally realize the order was wrong. This evening turned out to be a nightmare. Then the servers/ hosts kept asking, "is everything ok, is everything ok, is everything ok...." I think I gave this place my fair share of patience and trying them more than once. Hubby and I love Japanese food and before we'll think twice driving all the way to Japan Town but the the commute and the price is all worth it. You get fresher sushi and bigger portion that can satisfy your appetite. Before if we are craving for Japanese food we will go to Naked Fish since it only 5 miles from where we live and we liked the place because it is clean, they have very friendly staff and the price is reasonable. My hubby and I love to eat out and we used to go to Naked Fish once or even twice a week but then we stopped going because the portion started getting smaller and smaller and even for someone who doesn't really eat that much but for an Oriental who love to eat rice, you will not be satisfied. So my review is more of the servings being small for giving it a 2 star read more

We went there for Shabu Shabu, but waiter didn't know what we're Shabu Shabu! SoI ordered Chef Sashimi Comb 10 piece for $17 and a glass of wine. My wife ordered a Hamachi Kama, fry Tofu and a dish of Veggi Templa. Wow, I had over thousands of Sashimi in past fifty years, never ever served with a Salmon Sashimi so small and thin only about one inch square!!! They must short in supply!? this place is chinese owned. im not sure if that has to relate to any of their food portions or quality. but they dont have quality or quantity. do not get their chirashi don. If you dont know what it is, it is combination of different raw fish over rice. this place literally gives you like 5 pieces..total. i think it was around 10-11 bucks for a small bowl. I've had much better one from Old Town Sushi, San Mateo, ca. Their portion is much bigger and they give you at least 15-20 pieces of sashmi for $14.95 i believe. definitely worth it. customer service was so so. my cup of water was never refilled throughout my meal. I ordered the Nigiri Special and Tempura Udon. Apparently, there was a mix up with my order and they delivered the tempura to the table next to me. I saw the waitress take the plate from the next table and bring it back to the kitchen. I thought to myself, "I hope they're going to make me a new batch". My daughter got violently ill with in several hours of eating here. I suggested she call and warn the manager that something they served made her sick, so that they can replace whatever it was she ordered, or at least be aware. After calling and asking to speak with a manager the woman who answered the phone simply replied "NO" and hung up. It's been a couple of days now and my daughter went to urgent care with severe stomach cramping. They told her it was due to a bacteria and most likely from the food poisoning she got that evening. She called again today to speak with a manager and got the same response. Who behaves in that manner? We're talking about human decency. I own a business and would NEVER hang up on a customer. We tried the unagi fried rice and it was okay. I still love crab fried rice from anywhere though. We had a hot mama row and its just like the lion king from other places. Service was good.
