I still feel satisfied with my service experience at Napleton Subaru. I was able to book my appointment online. Then, I showed up 15 minutes early and they were able to check me in right away. I simply needed an oil change and tire rotation, both of which were done well. They did tell me my brakes needed servicing, but I decided to hold off on that for now. They had the car ready about an hour after I dropped it off, so the turnaround time was excellent. Keith, my service manager, did a great job of explaining the service and what needed to be done. I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding a deeply frustrating and unacceptable experience I had at your dealership during my recent car purchase. My friend and I came to your dealership with a clear understanding of the Subaru model we wanted, and the exact configuration, based on the information provided on your website. After a brief and smooth discussion with the salesperson, we finalized our decision in under 15 minutes. We were shown the vehicle we would be receiving and confirmed our intent to purchase. At that point, we were satisfied and prepared to proceed. However, once I was referred to the finance department, the experience took a sudden and extremely negative turn. Despite clearly stating that I was the buyer, the finance person wrongly assumed my friend was purchasing the vehicle and began accusing us of attempting to commit fraud or evade taxes due to differences in the residential and parking addresses. This accusation was completely unfounded, offensive, and based on personal assumptions rather than facts. After I clarified again that I was the buyer, he seemed to back off and invited me into his office. Inside the finance office, things only got worse. He began aggressively pushing optional service plans and insurance products, which I declined immediately. Instead of respecting my decision, he questioned me repeatedly and condescendingly, demanding to know why I thought I didn't need them, how I knew, and what would happen if I couldn't pay due to an accident. He even claimed some of the services were "required," which was misleading at best. When I stood my ground and explained clearly that I did not want any additional products, the finance person crossed a professional line. He said things like, "You are not the kind of person who should own a Subaru," and accused me again of buying the car for my friend. He continued to make inappropriate and threatening comments like, "I'm going to report this to the IRS," based on absolutely nothing. I remained calm, but made it very clear that I was ready to walk away from the deal because of how I was being treated. I explained the situation to the salesperson, who listened, took my concerns seriously, and ultimately convinced me to reconsider. After discussing it further, I chose to move forward and completed the purchase. However, the unacceptable behavior I experienced from the finance department cannot go unaddressed. No customer should be subjected to interrogation, threats, or condescending treatment--especially during such a significant financial decision. Where to begin. We drove from Madison, WI to this dealership in Schaumburg, IL with cash in hand to test drive, and buy a car my husband was interested in if we liked it. This is not some beater, this is an expensive car. Our salesman John Gomes, told my husband to be on time, because he "set aside time for us". We arrived at precisely our appointment time, and were told to wait in the lounge for him, as he was closing a deal. We waited for half an hour ish. Very bad first impression, and strike one. He then gave us the key, and told us to start it up while he scanned my husband's driver's license. We get out to the car, and it is FILTHY. Strike two. We got in the car, and pushed the start button. Nothing. Ok, try it again. Nothing. Do we need our seat belts on for us to start it? (It is a newer car, you never know) No, it just won't start. Strike three. He gave us the wrong key! Strike four. We finally get the right key, a sales guy who isn't the guy we're supposed to be dealing with brings it, and we start it up. There is literally NO GAS IN IT. The kid says "aren't you a gambling man?" Are kidding? Kid runs back in and gets a gas card. We go get gas. It took literally less than 2 minutes, so he put what, $5 in? We begin our test drive. We drive around a long block, and he directs us back to the dealership. I say "That's it? Are you kidding?" We need to actually DRIVE this thing! Strike five. They REALLY don't want us to test drive this car, just buy it. Our sales guy John comes out, and gets in with us. He tells us we can go open it up now. He directs us around a 2-3 long block, that's it. Top speed limit on the roads we drove on the way back? 45 mph. Yeah, "open it up". Back to the dealership. I say "We need to drive this on the highway". He says "It is against company policy" WHAT? Are you f**king kidding me? I say "You expect us to buy a car we haven't even driven on the highway"? He says (get this!) "You can do whatever you want AFTER YOU BUY IT". WHAT?!?!? Buh-bye!!! So, we drove all the freaking way to Schaumburg IL for absolutely NOTHING. I really thought dealerships had moved beyond the typical car sales tropes but they haven't here. Def felt like they wanted to impress my husband and appeal to what he might want in a car while really ignoring what I was asking for even though it was my money, my loan, and is my car. Made an online inquiry, was contacted by Tom regarding the vehicles I was interested in. He sent two options and over text I expressed that one of those options was too expensive and there would be no way to get it down to my budget but I would like to see the other. It should be said that I wanted a Certified Used Subaru and that I do not care about cars or the tech they can offer. I want a car that gets me safely from Point A to Point B and nothing more Drive out to see the car (we are in the city). We are introduced to Russ, the sales person, he speaks with Tom, info is exchanged and only the more expensive car is discussed. After I mention the other car, they disappear into an office and have a convo (one definitely longer to run a search of inventory). Moments later we head to Russ' desk and miraculously he gets a call, from Tom, whom he was just speaking with, on a day where only 2 people appeared to be buying cars, that the cheaper model has been sold. I can't help but feel cynically about this. There are more weird details but my biggest problem is that I went in with Capital One financing and even after making this clear they ran my credit 4 times. My score had dropped more than 20 points by the time I left their sales floor. I absolutely didn't authorize that and had expressed I didn't want my credit run. I was fed a line of BS about how since I have a temporary IL license they had to run my credit to find a different lender because "Capital One gets weird about some things". Seriously? We got a car, we spent more than I wanted but still ultimately were able to play the game too and still get the car for cheaper than our budget. Overall I walked away thinking the place was super shady. In signing all the final paperwork the 'boss' slid a paper across and said, oh Russ forgot to have you sign this. My husband and I are pretty sure that piece of paperwork was the one that gives permission to run a persons credit, but that was definitely after the fact. Typically wouldn't bother with a review but Jesus Christ the amount of 'leave-us-a-review' thirsty notifications finally got to me. EDIT: UPDATE: (On my google review they reached out telling me to reach out to make it better) Not sure how leaving a generic email address gives the impression of any level of care or concern but whatever. On to the real update. These clowns sold a car that needed new rotors (and subsequently brake pads since they have to be replaced together). I didn't realize this because the test drive I took I was only directed to go around a long block and not above 45 mph. Driving the car home I noticed the issue but we were leaving town for two weeks. In that time the car sat idle not moving one inch. On my first drive after being back a bunch of sensors went off so I set up a service appointment that my husband attended this morning and let them know about the front brake issue. Ultimately the team that wanted to 'turn my experience into a positive one' were insistent that I should be the one paying for the new rotors and brake pads. read more

My 19 year old daughter bought her first 'newish' car a few weeks ago, and first, they input the wrong address for her, so she had to drive back to the dealership (she lives in Milwaukee), wasting 3 hours of her time to resign for the title and have the address corrected. Second issue, and a safety concern: They boasted a 150 point inspection, and she even bought an extended warranty...just to have one side of the muffler fall to the ground the next week-with a ZIP TIE underneath it. Napleton told her that our local dealership would be able to fix it, little did we know she'd have to pay over $100 for two new clips-NEITHER SIDE was secured! We gave Napleton a chance to reimburse her, and the used car manager refused, and reported that it's not their issue-if it was 'secured' when they had it, they were not required to fix it. Really?? Secured with a zip tie is apparently enough for their dealership...a muffler wouldn't burn through a plastic zip tie, so that makes sense! Thanks used car manager, for sharing your true technical skills! Be aware of what their '150 point inspection' actually means...they don't look under the car, so not sure what else you might miss assuming that they care enough to sell you a safe car! As a parent, I'm disgusted by them taking advantage of an independent teenager trying to do her best, but costing her even more money because they couldn't replace a $5 clip to make a car safe. Honestly one of the worst customer experiences of my life. I was assured, by Tom King, that they would match the price of any other dealership, however after driving out there, they refused to match the quote that I had from another dealer. Tom assured me that a text quote is sufficient, but when I showed the sales team the offer I had been given, they practically laughed me out of there. Even if I provided a more "official" quote, Steve told me that he would not match the price. When expressing my frustration to David, who was very respectful despite the situation as a whole, I could hear a manager in the back making some comment about how I didn't even bring a quote with me, again even though Tom told me over the phone that a text quote was sufficient to match. The following day I went to Grand Subaru in Bensenville and had the most wonderful experience. While there, I visited the showroom to check out new vehicles, the Legacy in particular. I had NO intention to buy/lease a different vehicle because I was satisfied with the Crosstrek and had 14 months left on the lease. Todd Sauer greeted me and asked if he could answer any questions or show me features of the new Legacy. Todd was not pushy...simply helpful. Long story short, Todd, together with Jeff Calhoun (Sales Manager) and Stephen Black (Used Car Manager/Finance Manager) worked diligently to craft a deal that allowed me to turn in my Crosstrek 14 months early, avoid paying a disposition fee, put ZERO money down, and retain the basic parameters of my original lease, increasing my monthly lease payment by only $5.00. The entire transaction was quick, pleasant, and painless. I've bought and sold many cars over the years. My experience with Napleton's Schaumburg Subaru was by far one of the best. Terrible service department experience. I had to beg and fight for them to honor their own coupon. After finally agreeing to my price they gave me back my keys in a huff and said the car is right out front. It was not. After walking around looking for it, it was parked in the back and blocked in by an employee's vehicle. I don't recommend this Subaru dealership for service. I received an email from the dealership with a 15% service coupon that was for my specific vehicle and vin number. I scheduled the service from the email link and it provided a price on the website. It was for the recommended 60,000 mile service. After the service was complete I sent to pick up my vehicle and they were trying to charge me the full amount less their "coupons", which were way less than the 15% in the email. They tried to make me feel like a jerk for correcting them. They had to get special manager approval to honor their own coupon. Ridiculous. I don't know if it's part of their game to make an extra 5-10% off of every customer who doesn't ask questions, but it felt slimy. read more

Brought my car somewhere else and they found the leak, patched it and charged me less than half of Subarus quote to patch a tire. Less than 2 months after buying my Subaru Outback from Will, it is in the shop because with warmer days upon us, the air was not cooling the car. Funny enough, I had actually asked for this (along with the heat) to be checked upon test driving and seeing that the heating and cooling system was not working. I was told that it was fixed (and indeed the heat was blowing warm, but since it was February it was hard to tell that apparently the a/c was not blowing cold). VERY UNPROFESSIONAL - I purchased a new Subaru after searching inventory and test driving at 4 dealerships. As expected, each dealership invested sales time. Clearly, 4 dealers were not going to make a sale. Only 1. That's the nature of auto purchasing. Two of the non-winning dealers graciously accepted that they did not get the sale. Todd Sauer at this dealership reacted in a petulant, unprofessional manner. Our last negotiations were 2 days ago. This dealership was not fully aware of Subaru incentives which prevented us from closing on my offer then. He called today to follow up on on the purchase status. I called back, advised I had struck a deal with another dealer and advised why. He angrily asked why I was calling him then. I told him I was returning his call (common courtesy) and to express my appreciation for his efforts. He called me disingenuous (not sure he fully understands the meaning of that word because I was anything but). The dealer from whom I purchased is further away than Schaumburg Subaru but it was my intention to have service done here. Not much chance of that now. This dealership has gone from gaining a new service customer to a 1 star review and "forever bad reviews" (from me) in 10 minutes. read more

My car buying experience was GREAT back in September. I brought my 2025 Forester Sport in recently because a nail was in the tire sidewall and not patchable. I went to the dealership service department in the hopes that I would get a significant discount on an almost $400 tire (installed) since the car was brand new and I just bought it from them. I also have the maintenance plan on my lease. Not only did I NOT get a discount, the service manager was not even willing to work with me and then gave me some story about how a dealer just got a new car and the rim got bent and he had to pay fully for the repair. Yeah right. My quote was $380. So I took my business to my local FIRESTONE and they were able to get the same exact tire, installed, for $320. VERY DISAPPOINTING. read more

These comments are for the Schaumburg Subaru service department. I took my Subaru Legacy car for an oil change. Antonio helped me. I told him that I was taking my car there because at two other Subaru dealerships when I changed the oil, they put too much oil in. Antonio told me that they did it right. To my surprise, the next day when I inspected the oil level, it was still high. I went back to the dealership the next day to complain. They offered to just take out the extra oil that I had. They took it out with a vacuum pump. The 2 previous Subaru dealers offered to take out all the oil and apologized several times. If you don't know how to check the oil level, don't go to the Schaumburg Subaru. Jiffy Lube does it better. I have two legacy, one 2023 and another 2024, but I never go back. From top to bottom I've had nothing but issues with this dealership. I purchased a used 2018 Subaru Crosstrek from them last year and I've regretted it ever since. I love my car, but the dealership is horrible and has predatory practices. When I had my 1st oil change done at Napleton I was advised that next time I would need new tires and new back brakes which was a shock to me. Nothing like that was communicated before, during, or after I purchased my vehicle. Fast forward 6 months (Sep of 24') Napleton is charging $108 for an oil change/rotation, etc. Brilliance only wanted $89 so I go to them instead. They tell me a completely different story. My back brakes are brand new, and my tires are fine. They advised that Napleton is known for making a lot of mistakes. Go to Brilliance instead, they are wonderful. The cherry on top: I financed through Napleton and a year out the math on the loan doesn't make sense. The interest alone I've paid in one year vs the lifetime of the loan is criminal. So, I've learned my lesson. They cannot be trusted. I would not give them my business and I would urge you to buy literally ANYWHERE else. The service department at Napleton is pushy and rude.
