It's too bad really. Many eateries if they've been open long enough are bound to make some people sick. Well that's what happened to the whole group of us that ate there. (For some reason deli's seem to think they can charge you an arm and leg for a sandwich. It's a sandwich man. It's bread, coldcuts, cheese, some lettuce, some condiments. Tonight i was in Beverly Hills after a long work day. I found myself across the street from Nate n Al's and my mouth began to water. It had been years since I had a pastrami sandwich from here... I remembered the worlds most delicious pastrami seasoned to perfection and sliced razor thin. Rye bread so fresh it was baked that morning. Fantastic Waitress' some just as fresh after 30+yrs of mornings working at the Deli. Cole Slaw that must have been a secret family receipt.... If heaven was a sandwich. Nate and Al's pastrami sandwich was heaven on Earth.... I found myself giddy with excitement walking in to place my order to go.... Once home I unwrapped it with all the joy a 6 yo feels on Christmas morning.... I take my first bite with great anticipation..... WTF was that! Whatever it was.... it was horrible, My first thought was BLAH the family must have sold the deli.. It was without exaggeration, one the worst sandwich's i have ever eaten.... definitely the worst ever from N&A's but quite possibly one of the worst Sandwich's I ever eaten. Period. I've been coming to this place since I was in a high chair. I cut my first tooth on a frozen bagel on a string here, and will come here till I'm old. As a native of Beverly Hills, I can say with certainty that this was always and still is the best restaurant here. The food is always perfect, the waitresses are like beloved aunties, who treat everyone like royalty, and the ambience is like the very best delis of New York City. We had a great time trying this place on a Saturday evening! Even though very busy with weekend traffic, we got a parking spot right away as someone was pulling out just as we pulled up. Our timing was affected to our advantage by the fact that I had just had my hubby go around the block an extra time because he was fairly sure he'd just seen Gary Sinise crossing a street and of course I wanted to see him too! You know, I may have missed Gary, but it made for perfect timing to get a great parking spot right across the street from the restaurant! We enjoyed our food, and since it was our first time there and we both wanted to have room to try the different things we wanted, we shared a New York sandwich with potato salad each, each also got a bowl of matzo ball soup, the pickle/sauerkraut plate (that was all mine!) and coffees. We ordered a hot dog for our son and he had a Coke that came in a can with a glass of ice. The place is old school, very broke in and obviously that is a part of the charm. My husband was enamored with the idea that Larry King possibly comes here and it actually does seem like a place that he would have as an old standby. The food was very good and although not fancy by any means, we really enjoyed it. After dinner we shared a piece of apple pie a la mode with probably our fourth cup of coffee that, I'd like to add, was stout and viscous and delicious! I was so happy it was not ordinary diner-style coffee! To wrap things up I ordered a cold meat knish with gravy to go and am having that at home. Full of meat, it tastes like ground corned beef or pastrami inside a thin pastry. We will definitely go back and try other things, especially the other homemade desserts! read more

Hard to believe I recently dined at this Los Angeles landmark for the first time. The pastrami sandwich (The New Yorker) is a must with potato salad. All of the sandwiches seem to be popular along with breakfast. Very similar to Canters with an open deli. The restaurant preserved it's original seating and decor. Our waitress Cherie is a true New York native which made it more entertaining. She was hilarious and very attentive. She's a reason I would go back. Food is reasonably priced and parking is free for 2 hrs at most garages along the street. read more

Beware!! We ate with our family of three here today. One child, two adults. I had a gluten free lox bagel. When I had already eaten half of it...admittedly pretty good in taste and texture...I saw a blue-grey spot in the bread. Immediately, I discussed with hubby whether that could be mold. It DID look like it...but we both agreed it couldn't be in such a popular place. So I ate the whole thing and ignored what I saw. We ordered a hamentasche (sweet treat) to go. After about 1 hour in my purse in the air-conditioned car we took it out to eat and it had a HUGE mold spot in it. Right on the cherry marmelade (see picture). What a shocker to know that I was spot on (pun intended) with my lox bagel already. MOLD alarm!! Hubby called the deli where we had just spent over $70 for lunch for 3. Managment wouldn't help without the receipt. We tossed that out, not knowing we needed it to prove their mold problem. What a disappointment. read more

being from the east coast it is hard to find parts of it here in LA. Nate N Al's is like I walked into a NYC Delicatessen. The service is great with people who have been there forever, and the owners are great. It feels very personal and homey. It is worth every dollar you spend, and in really is average in pricing... and for Beverly Hills that is saying a lot. The pastrami on rye is absolutely amazing... and the pickles with every sandwich... awesome. A staple of Beverly Hills, this deli serves great food with a typical NY attitude. The lox in eggs breakfast is absolutely delicious. A Reuben-Focused Review Amazing that I haven't known about this place for so long, living on the Westside all my life. Well lately I've been checking out Los Angeles Delis, and Reuben sandwiches in particular, and with my new discovery, Nate'n Al was the 3rd stop on my informal Great Reuben Crawl, so I will be comparing to the other prior Crawlees - Art's Deli (Studio City) and Langer's (near downtown LA). The sandwich resembles the version at Art's Deli very much in that it is a typical wedge (versus the flatter bigger version at Langer's). The rye bread is not quite as good as Art's as far as how it holds up over time, but not disappointing. Although Langer's pastrami may have the best inherent quality, the pastrami at Nate'n Al is great deal more *appropriate* for a Reuben, it is very rich and flavorful and so will not as easily get overwhelmed by the saurkraut. There is also less saurkraut in the sandwich itself (you get more on the side along with the russian dressing on the side). The pickles are plentiful and very refined (not overly salty or pickely). At Langer's you do not get any automatic side order choice with your sandwich. At Nate'n Al you get a choice of potato salad or coleslaw. I had the potato salad, it was kind of plain, not eggy or sticky, potatos floating in neutral whiteness, very refined and no complaints, just not my favorite style of potato salad. At Art's you get the option of fruit along with the potato salad and cole slaw. Other reviewers have rightly mentioned the clautrophobic feel of Nate'n Al; booths are not separated very much on the sides, so you will likely be seated near some noisy histrionics, so don't eat here if you are in a foul or not so good mood. They guy right next to me had his elbow sticking over the partition into my eating zone, but my mood was good and I obliged with no complaint. read more

The pickles are free if you ask for them, but mediocre Pickles are not worth getting, even if their free. They should sell this building and move to Miami. Nate 'n Al has a lot to live up to; it has a strong reputation after surviving Beverly Hills since 1945. And fortunately, it did. We came on Rosh Hashana at lunch time, so it was bustling. But the employees (from the hostess to the waitress) were very kind and grateful for our patience (we waited 20 minutes which is not too bad!). I ordered the Nate 'n Al, a hot pastrami sandwich. I have a pretty timid stomach for greasy or fatty food, which is what I expected when I ordered it (perhaps not a fair assumption on my part). However, although it was juicy from the delicious russian dressing, it felt surprisingly light and clean for what it was. The meat was excellent as was the sauce and rye bread. I even loved my little side of potato salad. Slightly pricey but it's BH. What do you expect? I guess you can expect a good pastrami! read more

if you're in the area to shop, i can see why this would be an easy place to stop in for a quick bite. offers both indoor and outdoor seating, though outdoors is relatively limited. our server was sweet, but everyone else that worked there either really sucked or looked really miserable. paying 40+ bucks for 2 sandwiches kind of blows my mind. unless someone can school me on the history of sandwiches and pastrami, i will continue to believe that this place is a bit on the over priced side. then again, you're shopping at rodeo so i guess it makes sense. we ordered the new york and the brisket. aside from the difference in meat it pretty much tasted the same to me :X i think the half order should be more than enough for 1 person.. you get option of potato/macaroni salad or you can add fries/onion rings for like 2.25 more. place is a bit old and run down, and the outdoor seating area was dirty. i had to clean off the seat before sitting down. food wasn't bad or great, just good. theres a parking area on the corner where they allow free parking on sundays. we just parked there and walked over. read more

I seriously am so proud of being Jewish when I go to places like this. I got matzo ball soup with noodles and a brisket sandwich. The meat was so good that I ate it Matt B style: just meat and bread.
