This was a breath of fresh air in the vibrant Beverly Drive, and for good reason. I've been going here since I was five and the food got better every time I went. The staff were welcoming and easy to talk to, the people who greeted you and served you had personality. Now to the food, it's amazing. It feels like a home cooked meal and you won't be disappointed either. If you're looking for price, it's reasonable which is good in this day and age. This is a review of restaurant not the deli. Food quality getting progressively worse, and expensive. Tourist trap. 2 egg Greek omelette with potato and toast, $15!!!! On last visit, almost no feta cheese (maybe half a tablespoon sprinkled on it), and perhaps less than 2 tablespoons of tomatoes. Omelette came out cold and potatoes burnt. For better omelettes and sandwiches, walk about 4 blocks North up to the Nosh on Santa Monica. Nate'n Al's was an institution in its prime, but it's been going into a downhill slide for years. One of the most famous Jewish delis in town, but also one of the most expensive ($13 for a corned beef sandwich). Their food is very good, although I think Canter's is a little better. One nice thing about Nate 'n' Al is that you often run into celebs - saw one their today during my late lunch. Note of warning: this place is notorious for their so-so service - expect older ladies who look like they've been their since the place opened. You know, when you have a hankering for a good ole Reuben or plain hot pastrami sandwich, you just can't satisfy that urge with anything else. Well, that is what happened to me and I had driven past this place many times before so I decided to give it a try. First of all, from the moment you walk in the employees are very friendly and energetic, I guess it's probably not like this everyday but on the certain Saturday that I went, the staff was utterly pleasurable. The decor is dated, but that is part of the experience. I enjoyed the decor only because you are going to this restaurant to eat in a deli that has been around for 65 years. My mom and I shared the Reuben which was a good size for us because we weren't super hungry but if you are a big eater you could probably finish off a whole sandwich by yourself. The corned beef was fabulous, great color and flavor. The best part though was the seeded rye. It was toasted to perfection, crispy on the outside but soft on the inside and tasted so good with everything on the sandwich. I would even eat it as plain toast, and I'm not a huge rye fan. I didn't care for the potato salad which had a slightly sweet tinge to it but that's just my own peculiarity. The eggs looked fabulous as did the matzo ball soup, how could they go wrong with that. I definitely want to come back here and try their breakfast items, but get there before 12:30 because that's when it really starts to fill up. We got there around 12:15 and only had to wait 15 minutes. read more

I've eaten here for years, I love these old school enduring places, there are so few around, I always have Matzo Ball soup, very good here, and a sandwich. Which is why i was very disappointed to find out that their baked goods, most importantly BREADS! no longer come from BEVERLYWOOD BAKERY, another quality oldtimer of the area! I LOVED having a sandwich on some truly good Rye Bread, growing up my grandma used to bake her own Rye and only Beverlywood's bread came close in quality. But when i ate there last week i could tell right away the bread on my sandwich was different, it had that cheaper lighter quality, sogged up fast, wasn't as fragrant. I asked what was up, and they told me they had changed bakeries, something cost related?! Well they got what they payed for, the sandwich wasn't the same. I always have Rugelach after my meals here, sometimes i really treat myself and have the best Black and White cookie in town, but again it was just so disappointing to find all these different baked goods and no Rugelach at all. 20 years of habit broken! I figured i would give the B&W cookie a go, it was kind of small and chubby and it was OK but not as good as it was before. I didn't waste the calories, i drove over to Beverlywood bakery, figured i'll pick up some bread too, and got my desert, as good as it ever was. At least some things stay the same. I asked the Owner guy, kind of a stern guy with an accent, he said he didn't have an answer for me, but confirmed that his goodies are no longer offered at Nate'n Al's, then he gave me a free B&W Cookie for loving his stuff like i do! I think i'll just make my Sandwiches at home now! read more

this is such a part of la for us. we drive immediately here from the airport and the two of us fill a four top with as much food as possible; matzo ball soup, bagels and lox, pastrami, pickles, scrambled with onions, chopped liver...it's such a great place; i wish it existed on the east coast. read more

One of the best delicatessens and breakfast spots to go to. The service was impeccable and the food was too. My waitress recommended the breakfast burrito which had bacon, potatoes, eggs all wrapped in a fluffy tortilla. The salsa was amazing too. Highly recommend this spot if you're in the area! read more

Best Deli in LA. I love this place. I go to N & A when I'm homesick for the great deli's of the East Coast. The Whitefish salad bagel is the best. And all the waiters are career waiters so you won't get any of the insufferable model/waitress/actress attitude here. My friend and I had the waitress with the blue glasses (sorry, I forget your name!) who gave great service and was a hoot to boot. Can not say enough great things about this place! Woot! read more

Just ordered Nate n Als for the first time to go. We got a Nate n Al sandwich (hot pastrami with lettuce tomatoes onion and Russian dressing) and a Bowl of Matzo Ball soup. The sandwich was great and soup was good (Brent's is better). The only complaints I have and reason for not giving them a 5 star was they forgot our Russian dressing and the "bowl" of soup was more like a cup. A bowl should be a good size and this was a tiny pint to go. Will be back, just happy I know the sizes now. read more

I've been meaning to try Nate n Al's for quite some time and I'm glad I finally did! We came in right at lunch time but were seated promptly. They have a deli up front if you just want to swing by for some cold cuts. We ordered the Nate n Al and New Yorker (half portions) and delicious fresh brewed ice tea. They bring out complimentary pickles while you wait for your food which was a unique touch! When the sandwiches arrived, I was impressed with the high pile of warm pastrami. The half portion is quite generous and comes with a side. My first bite was bliss. Warm, beautifully marbled and salted pastrami. It's was mid Monday the 24th of june , me and my daughter and husband went for a bite to eat and I must say this was the worst experience I EVER HAD WITH MY MEAL AND SERVER. When I walked in the African American lady at the front was very nice and friendly, we literally waited a minute and she sat us right away , so I told my husband I like this restaurant already , but boy was I wrong when we sat down with the worst waitress EVER!!!! It took her 5 minutes to even acknowledge us , we didn't get any water until we had to ask , then before ordering our food she asked can we wait a couple minutes because she had one table before us, so of course we waited, at this point I'm getting a little upset , so we order our food which took 20 minutes, which she didn't check on us at all during the time , I asked her what's her name and she said Dee Dee , if that's even her name . I didn't even want to eat my food anymore and on top of it all she's very slow and have the nerve to chat and laugh with other waitresses, I probably will never come back here , the African American lady at the front was the only positive thing about this experience read more

Ordering take out or delivery from here is the biggest pain in the a**. Not only are they extremely overpriced but the customer service is HORRIBLE. Aside from rarely getting my order right, the men (specifically Mario) at the order desk are very rude. I was condescendingly called "sweety" and then was hung up on shortly after all because I had one harmless question. I guess the employees are not taught any codes of conduct which to me is pretty pathetic considering this restaurant has been around for so many years with such a good reputation as one of LA's best deli's. My a**! My family and I have been very loyal customers up until now, they have officially lost our business. read more
