This may be a great destination for locals. You can tell that it's probably one of the nicer establishments for Jamaica Beach and West pointe. So, they feel they can offer horrible service. The servers there are very rude and the food is less than mediocre. For example, placed a call in order and had to dial in 8 times, before someone picked up. Placed my order, picked it up, and when we got it back to where we were staying, the order was incorrect. Called to inform them my salad was missing shrimp and a side was not included and the person on the phone said 'you're lying...I know it was in there' Now mind you, this is an unacceptable response even if you thought that were the case, but the fact was that this was truly an oversight on their part, and I was just calling to be refunded for the missing items in a polite understanding manner, that really was just shocking. I asked for the manager to call me back, but of course I never received one On top of the nasty attitude from the staff, the food was of equal level. There was a long hair in the friends Pontchartrain and the flounder had a stuffing that was foul in smell and taste. If you're in from out of town... do yourself a favor and drive there few extra miles past this place into Galveston's and eat at some of Galveston's cleaner, friendlier, and better quality establishments. read more

Howdy and welcome from the West End of Galveston... where there is next to NOTHING of note; that being both a good and a bad thing. It's great that our beach was mostly private for our resort as well as quiet, bad in that apparently in order to get halfway decent food we had to drive to Galveston main (10-15mi drive). So, like I'd said our guy from the resort mentioned this place as "not too bad". That comment was "far too kind". Nate's isn't going to get my worst review, that's forthcoming. What they will get is a wag of the finger. Let me state, and take my opinion for just that. Anyone who rates this place better than a 3 must work there or be related to someone who is or they may think McDonalds is culinary works of art. I'm going to rate "my" meal experience. My daughter already chimed in with a 3, because her chicken parmesan was ok. Her chicken parm, on an island, the far end of said island, served to her in a double wide (nicely decorated though) was ok... We were greeted at the door by a nice enough lady, drinks were a little slow coming out but not horrible. We ordered a couple appetizers, crab balls, crab stuffed jalapenos. Crab balls were pretty good, tartar sauce was REAL good, probably the highlight as you could just about dip anything in it and mask whatever you were eating with its yum factor. So we order and as mentioned, daughter gets chicken parm... it was actually good according to her so we'll give that a pass. Daddy's blackened snapper (give me an "A" for effort in trying to locate good snapper) was over done, dry, lacked seasoning and was more akin to sole of shoe than filet of sole. The small, and I mean small, dinner salad was very fresh if a bit 6th grade. Some lettuce, baby carrot, one slice of cuke and an 1/8th of a tomato were about it. It was good though for what it was. The side dishes of my dinner were so worthless I can't even recall them the next day... ugh. Homie was not a fan, and largely disregarded the adventure. Mommas liked my dry snapper and her shrimps were halfway decent... sadly she ordered blackened and they came out "somewhat" grilled. Barely seasoned, little to no char and mostly flavorless unless drenched in some sort of sauce. My advice to all y'all yelpers, it's not worth the risk. Eat a Totino's pizza or get some Sea Pak at the attached grocery store and save yourself the money. I would actually give out recent visit a negative 1 if Yelp allowed. We felt unwelcome from the jump. We have eaten her for a decade and was shocked at the recent treatment we received from the manager Jesse. He was rude, aggressive, seemed generally unhappy. They forgot to bring us an app so brought it at end meal, literally when our napkins were in our dirty plates. At that point we didn't want and Jesse sighed and rolled his eyes when we expressed why we wouldn't want an app at END of dinner. The food was not great either. Grilled vegetables tastes like a hamburger and food was pre frozen. The wait staff told us restaurant was under new ownership but not off to a great start. We won't be back. It was busy so we decided to set up shop on the patio and enjoy the sun setting on a great Sept day. Little did we know how bad the skeeters were there, much worse than ATX. We LOVE the pecan crusted snapper! It never disappoints. We eat here several times per month and it is consistently good. They have a really good Chicken Fried Steak sandwich and one of my favorites is the soft shell crab. Oh and the fries mushrooms are awesome and you get a ton of them. Nate's has changed for the worse. Our west end favorite for many years, after a series of bad experiences in 2023, we don't go anymore. New ownership has resulted in a shrunken menu, long waits, poorly prepared food, increased prices and continual turnover of once-great kitchen and wait staff. Nate's has morphed into a beach bar without a view. (Surprisingly, we heard that Nate's owners also own the new Cooper's Landing, which is excellent.) read more

I don't normally write negative reviews but honestly could not be more disappointed in what was one of our families FAVORITE little eating spots has become. I have been coming to Galveston to visit my grandparents since I was a child, now we own a home here and when I have speaking engagements with UTMB we get to fly down and spend a few days. We have been eating here for years. Now that being said we were aware that Nate's was sold after the original owner passed away. We have been reassured that the amazing kitchen staff is the same as well as the food we love so much! That being said, the food was still just as yummy as ever. Sadly we cannot say the same about the new management. I could not have been more disappointed after being completely offended by an employees attire. This gentleman was literally wearing a shirt that said in very visible letters " Girls Suck" and then in parentheses said (the good ones do) or something very very similar. My husband asked our sweet server who was the manager on duty and she pointed right to....you guessed it, the new GM WEARING THIS DISGUSTING SHIRT IN FRONT OF CUSTOMERS . My 9 year old daughter asked what that meant. Needless to say we will no longer be customers of Nate's Westend as long as there are no standards to be set and held by someone that is supposed to set an example. What was once a family friendly gem has been sadly bought by someone with a terrible reputation and obviously has no standards for hiring and handing his business over to. Before I would really even let myself be upset I had to run into the little grocery right next to Nate's and wouldn't you know there are several shirts for purchase!!!!!!! I wanted to buy one and take it back to the GM......but after spending a few hundred dollars on dinner I figured we had given enough of our money to this establishment. This West End eatery has been around for a long time and is a favorite of many. And other than the pricey restaurant at the back of Sea Isle, it's pretty much the only dining experience you can find out west, so there's that. I stopped by for a quick lunch last week and sat at the bar. They seemed to be a little understaffed without a whole lot of team work going on. I ordered an oyster po'boy. Not impressed. Thicker crust on oysters and a little overcooked. The condiments (tarter?) were on the side and and there was way too much bread. Any true po'boy lover knows, it's ALL about the right amount and texture of the bread soaking up the mayo and the juices from the fried oysters. Chicken fried steak is rated 5 stars! You can practically cut it with a fork. Also had grilled shrimp, grilled veggies and fried okra. All was delicious but suggest asking for the veggies extra grilled. Waiter didn't have personality but was very efficient. Hush puppy appetizer was very tasty too. We've been going here since 2007 and up until the ownership changed it was our favorite place on the Westend. The last 3 times we've been there the long time staff has been replaced by new servers and bartenders( when there is one) and the quality of food has gone down drastically. Absolutely busy for labor day weekend and the staff worked incredibly hard to make it through while still being short staffed! I cannot emphasize enough how impressed I am with this entire staff on Sunday night making it work the best they can, I'm sure it was really hard. I watched one server chase after a car for probably a forgotten credit card, and someone else even was digging through the trash for my brother-in-law's wedding ring (that I had taken for safe keeping in the first place, unknown to him) The food was delicious and we were all satisfied! We came here for my brother in laws birthday in July and was not impressed by the food at all. Our waitress was very nice but not familiar with the menu and doesn't like seafood so she couldn't give a recommendation. I asked if the fish was fresh or frozen she didn't know. We ordered an array of things we were a party of 8 and two little kids. Everything is FRIED very greasy and zero flavor. You can taste the frozen seafood which was disappointing since the prices here are steep. My sister in law and brother in law ordered steaks and that was $30 and marginal/just ok. Now I have 3 kids and order chicken tenders many many times for them. The tenders here made me feel sad for my kids. It had no flavor and even packing it in the to go box I knew none of what we took home would be eaten. I hate wasting food and we paid the bill almost $300. The service was ok which is why I didn't give it a one star. The bathroom was out of soap and not super clean... overall it's not worth it even though it's the only restaurant in the area. We've eaten at Nate's several times and it's always been hit or miss. The food is decent. The problem is the service. Sometimes they are really on top of things, and other times not so much. We stopped in today. A waitress greeted us right away, sat us and told us they'd be right with us. We waited patiently while all the tables around us were waited on, but none of the waitstaff even looked our way. No one even took our drink order. When we got up and walked out, we walked past several waitresses including the one who sat us. No one said a peep to us. What made it more disappointing was that there were customers there, but they weren't crazy busy. Obviously, they did not need our business. It's ashame. They are understaffed and it takes a while to actually talk to someone at the front because the staff is running around trying to do as much as possible, not their fault of course. They have sweet workers. The chocolate cake is really dry and a lot of the meals are overpriced considering the quality of the food. Was not too impressed. We arrived in Galveston late in the evening and were glad to see a restaurant close to our lodgings. It was close to closing time, but they were happy to see us walk in and seated us quickly. The server was friendly and helpful with suggestions. The blackened redfish was perfect, and the Shrimp Enbrochet outstanding. We had hoped to try the flounder, but they were already out for the day. I would suggest going earlier in the day if you want to try some of the more popular dishes. They get their fish each morning, and I'm sure earlier in the evening would ensure access to the full menu. If you're a fan of Key Lime pie, you have to try theirs. It's wonderful! read more

Come on...and PS skip the gumbo, worst I've ever had. Three tiny popcorn shrimp, two slices of sausage and 1 piece of chicken in the $9 bowl, as a mentioned, cold. Hmmm Enjoyed the casual vibe and friendly roadhouse style service and the other diners in our party had great oysters and sides, loved the pinto beans. However, good service (more servers in the place than customers, so it kinda should be) doesn't make up for bad food. We are here for two months so I'll go back and give it another try, I'll stick with the fish though I feel like $23 for a snapper filet was a tad pricey, it was delicious. I have really tried to like this place but alas this place is always a disappointment. We just spent $60 plus on a very mediocre dinner. I had the fried stuffed shrimp with fried okra and cole slaw. The shrimp were ok but fried dark due to the oil probably being a little past best. My fried okra was room temperature. My wife had grilled red snapper and corn and green beans. But, we waited about 40 minutes for a table (large group) then another 1 1/2hrs for our food to come out. We almost walked out. Hubs ordered flounder with mixed veggies and the flounder was dry and veggie portion was so small it was ridiculous. We were surprised because the reviews were mostly positive. It was our first time together in Galveston and we wanted to go to a local restaurant. We had checked in and it was a 30 minute wait. After 30 minutes we checked to see how much longer and they had skipped us and had to wait longer. They said we were after a table of 14. After being seated we had ordered. 40 minutes later the server tells us that they had mistakenly gave my plate to someone else and that we would have to wait longer for a new one to be made. Good steak tonight, baked potato was luke warm and I had to remove pieces of aluminum foil from where they sliced it. My wife had the grilled red snapper! It not only looked good but was delicious! The place was packed & loud! My decibel meter went to red and peaked @ 96.1 decibels! That's hearing damage level... especially for infants! This place is very popular. But due to the popularity - the service is just bad. I understand busy -- but the discourteous nature of our server was really the worst. Totally ignored as empty soda and water cups just sat there unfilled. When we asked for refills, I could tell it was a problem. We spilled a soda and I had to get up and wait in line at the hostess stand to get napkins. The server walked by and ignored us. The food took over 40 minutes to arrive - burgers the ones ordered with mushrooms on had 3 mushrooms. It was laughable. It is incredibly loud and just an unwelcoming environment I would not recommend. Additionally, the men's room had no towels in the towel holder. Food was not very good, gumbo tasted like Sams , we were very disappointed with the whole experience. The hamburger wasn't too bad.

My first visit here and the BSM Burger was very good. 1/2 lb beef cooked medium and very good flavor with the right amount of seasoning. It was very juicy and the bun held up well with all the fixings on it as well which is a plus. But you will need more than one napkin for this big juicy flavorful burger! I was disappointed in the steak fries, they were soft and limp. I feel they could have fried longer so they could have a more golden and crisper coating . I'll have to try the onion rings on my next visit ;-) The dining area is very clean and there are large picture windows so you have a awesome view of the water and beach. After talking to another couple, I decided to go with the stuffed snapper. The steamed veggies were spot on. The salad was alright but one of the greens was a little biter for my taste. The snapper was good but the stuffing was bland. Did not see any shrimp or celery in it.
