Before you dismiss me as a Troll, please hear what I have to say because it is valid. First the good: Nathan's Noodles food tastes extremely good. This is applicable more so for the standard, mild, dishes but overall the tastes are excellent and the Curries are flavorful too. Now the Truth: Nathan's noodles will fill the dish up with vegetables and almost no meat. I have taken my meal back twice with this exact complaint. I ordered Panang Beef and there were two microscopic pieces of meat and a plethora of bell peppers. When I say microscopic, I mean this literally. One was about the size of a quarter (flat) and the other was about a size and a half over that. As a result, when I do order from there, which is extremely rare, I order double meat so I don't have to argue with them. Seriously, it's insulting. Also, having had real Thai food, I don't remember Panang Beef beef being 75% bell peppers. Nathan's Noodles is very expensive. Now, if they were cheap, I'd give more allowance for having to order extra meat to receive a normal portion. Also and this applies to many Americanized Thai restaurants. When I say I want my dish made Thai Style and Pet Pet (meaning spicy spicy) and I get a dish full of Jalapeno peppers, this kind of sucks. I want Thai Chillies which are readily available and I want it as ethnically accurate as possible (this is what "Thai Style" would mean). It has been my experience that Jalapeno's are not indigenous to Thailand and not in their dishes (I could be mistaken here but I know it isn't in the dishes I frequently order). If I wanted Jalapeno's I'd go down the street to a Mexican restaurant which is sometimes the case in that I like Jalapeno's just not in my Thai food. Sorry this couldn't be more positive but this isn't a one time thing. I have eaten Nathan Noodles food about 10 - 15 times and my aforementioned experiences occur a 100%. I just keep suffering because as mentioned, the flavors in most of their dishes are good. My work around is that I'll order Panang Beef with No Bell Peppers and double meat which forces these people to make it right and believe me it doesn't even fill the plate but at least it tastes good read more

This place is one of the hidden gems in Elmhurst, if you venture a little north of North Avenue on York, you are In for some amazing Thai cuisine. The food is always tasty, delicious and is authentic Thai. The lard Nar is crispy and so yummy. The Tom Yom soup has an awesome tango ness and nice heat..and the curries are like so nice. I think I found a new take-out place for Thai food! I visited Nathan's with my cousin for a late lunch. Although there are at least 15 items on their lunch special menu (soup, spring roll, cucumber salad, meal and rice makes up the lunch special) we opted to order off the regular menu as we wanted to be able to share some different items. Baby egg rolls--mini fried eggrolls stuffed with very thin rice noodles, ground chicken and shrimp. Crispy, Great flavor, not greasy. Tasted even better with a little sweet/sour sauce and spicy chili sauce. Shrimp Pad Thai--noodles were cooked well, great flavor, big pieces of shrimp, and lots of fresh bean sprouts. Beef and Broccoli-- It was good. It didn't wow me. The pieces of beef were tender, but I found the broccoli to be a little overdone and the sauce too watery. Thai Fried Rice--veggie. Lots of fresh veggies in this dish, baby corn, green peppers, tomato, snow peas and onions. Prepared very well and not overly greasy either. Pretty tasty. All the servings were huge! We had more than enough to bring back home and have leftovers for later. It's a small restaurant, seating for about 40 people. Even though I found service very friendly and welcoming, the kitchen is very slow. I would have to think twice about dining in again. I can't believe I haven't reviewed Nathan's yet -- this has been one of my favorite Thai restaurants in the area for the past 4-5 years and is definitely the one I visit most frequently. I haven't been to Somchai on Grand Ave. in a while, but I think Nathan's has more flavorful food. My family all likes Nathan's much better than Somchai, hence why I have not been to Somchai in years. The crab rangoon here is about the best I've ever had, and do try the Mee Krop appetizer - it's very light, with crunchy noodles and tangy sauce. The Pad Thai and the Basil Fried Rice are some of my favorite entrees, as well as a few of the other noodle dishes -- definitely order the Basil Fried Rice if you're not sure what to order but don't want to go with the standard, good ol' Pad Thai. Nathans has some nice lunch specials if you're looking to eat in ,and if you order take out dinner for $20 or more (if I'm remembering correctly), you can choose a small portion of one of four different appetizers for free with a coupon they print on the front of their take out menus. read more

A great place to go for curry! Panang and green curry are both very good. You can select your level of spice. Warning, the curry portions are small to medium, so if you are a hungry guy like my bf, you may be disappointed, but he still keeps going back for the flavor. Their noodles (drunken noddle) could use a little more work, they are a little oily. It's Americanized Thai, so be warned if you're looking for legit Thai food. I took some of my Hmong friends here and they weren't that impressed. The server is very nice and service was good. The interior is nice, but casual. read more

I used to love Nathan's, as the food was light, fresh and felt home-cooked. Their basil stir-fry dish with tofu was my favorite. Unfortunately Nathan's now has a new cook (new ownership as well?) and the quality of the food dropped considerably. The food became saltier, more fried and potentially less vegan-friendly. In the early days my waiter would always know what contained fish sauce/shrimp paste and the kitchen could always modify dishes. These days, the waitstaff is never quite sure what "vegan" even means. So my trust in this place is blown and the food isn't good anymore anyway. read more

I'm by no means a Thai expert, but ain't no slouch neither. Nathan's is very nondescript from the outside, located in a little tuckaway strip mall on York Rd., just off 290. If I hadn't been looking for a little lunch spot close to my friend's work, I would've never found it. The lunch specials are definitely the way to rock, even if you want a "large" portion to share. The included soup and appetizer (egg roll, spring roll or cucumber salad) are enough to prime you for lunch, which is plentiful and flavorful. The spring roll wrap was a little thicker than I would've expected, and slightly dry. And I did take a little issue with the sauce used for my curry panang. It was very heavy, and you could see streaks of oil on the sauce. I wasn't able to finish even half of it, as I knew I would've paid the price for it later on. A Thai iced tea made a perfect sweet compliment to the spicy curry, and I had plenty of leftovers to enjoy for lunch tomorrow. read more

I lived in Chicago for 4+ years, where delicious Thai food was easily accessible. This past summer I was in Thailand for 2 months, and after returning I moved back to Elmhurst. My Thai food withdrawals were unreal. Nathan's has been my go to spot for the last couple of weeks. So far my favorite is the cashew dish, as well as their garlic sauce. Their Tom Kha soup is just like the soup I would eat in Thailand nearly everyday. In my opinion the Panang Curry is nothing like I was used to, real peanut-y. Still tasty but not the Panang I'm looking for. Looking forward to my next trip to try out their red and green curries with some extra spice. I've gone here since it was Nee's Noodles, but after Monday night, I'll find a new Thai favorite. The sampler of appetizers featured three fried treats indistinguishable from each other, and barely warm. There were only 2 other tables with diners, so it's not like the kitchen was overburdened. The waitress was a hard faced grouch with a dislike for customers that she made abundantly clear. If she's the owner she ought to get into a new line of work. Duck pad thai was bad. It was ugly to look at - not a bit of shredded carrot or cabbage or peanut to enliven it and add both visual and textural interest. It was a sticky sweet mass of noodles with brown sauce and "duck" meat that was more mystery than duck. The thin wedge of lime on the side was dried out. It was a parody of pad thai. No beer, grouchy service, bad food. Guess when I'll be back? When I read those hopeful words - "Under New Management". read more

I've ordered from here for take out a couple times and it was just okay. It would be a 1 star but they do have good rice soup (Thai Soup), and that's my go to on a cold day. As for their service, I've only ever order carried out so I'm not sure how dine-in is. But carry you have to order at least 30 mins before because that's how long it takes them to make it. They only have 1 chef and 1 prep so order in advance and they get really busy during lunch time, as you can guess. The person that answer the phone is always not sure what's going on, but she's young (looks like college students) so I guess I don't mind that as much. They always forget when I ask for something on the side. lol~ For their food, it's not bad. I've had better. That Rice soup thou, I love it. My coworkers have gotten other dishes there, and I've tried it. Not bad but not super impressed. It just looks like they need either the manager or the owner to watch other. They are busy during lunch and as 3 people waiting for carry out in a small entrance and you can see into the dinning room and everyone looks like they are just waiting for food. We visited Nathan's Noodles for the first time based upon many of the good reviews from Yelpers. Unfortunately, we did not have a similar experience. We ordered Thai rolls, Chicken Satay, Garlic & Scallops and Nathan's Pad Thai. The best item was the Thai rolls which are similar to Spring Rolls but include shrimp. These were delicious. Ten minutes after the Thai rolls we received the Chicken Satay which was a little tough. The amount of cucumber salad that accompanied the peanut sauce was so small that it fit on one and one half fork fulls. It wasn't even for two whole forks! My wife had the Garlic & Scallops which she thought was just OK. I ordered the Nathan's Pad Thai which was very dry and lacked flavor. I normally do not adorn Thai food with soy sauce since I find the subtle flavors so interesting. This needed soy sauce AND chili paste to give it both flavor and moisture. I had a Mango Bubble Tea which was like a milk shake and quite good. Total bill was $40.70. I was so looking forward to Nathan's Noodles but our experience did not meet expectations. read more

When you think of the name "Nathan" you probably don't think of Thai food. But you should. Because Nathan's (the noodles, not the hot dogs) is awesome! My hand should probably be slapped because I've never actually had the pad thai here. But there are so many other things to choose from! I typically get the Crazy Cousin noodles, which is a wide rice noodle dish with veggies, ground chicken, and a spicy brown sauce. Their egg rolls are pretty close to perfect, and the fresh rolls have pineapple (!) in them. The BF usually orders the lime chicken, which is fried chicken chunks with a creamy lime flavored dipping sauce. He also gets the Nathan's Noodle dish, which is similar to the Crazy Cousin but with less veggies and sans ground chicken. Last time we headed over to Nathan's, I decided to try something different, and went for the yellow curry with chicken. I loved the sweet coconut milk flavor and just a little bit of spice that lingered. The potatoes and carrots were great in the sauce. The decor is nice and homey, and I love the big fish in the tank at the front. read more

My +1 and I ended up at Nathan's a few weeks ago when we realized our first dining idea closed earlier than anticipated. We ordered the fried tofu and shumai for appetizers. I loved the texture of the tofu, but it didn't seem seasoned with anything so it was pretty bland - even with the peanut sauce (which was supposedly sweet/sour), and the shumai was EXTREMELY garlicky. Now, I love me some garlic, but this was Date-Repellant Garlicky. We were also given a soup - I'm not entirely sure what was in it (some tofu, bean sprouts, maybe chicken broth..?). I believe he ordered the Basil Leaves Dish (which I tried and was OK). I had the Shrimp Pad Thai, which was alright - pretty standard. I REALLY loved the shrimp, though, as those were grilled nicely and had great flavor. Too bad there were only 4-5 of them. :( We were offered a free dessert - a crispy rice-type thing. It was tasty. It seems like a lot of attention went into the decor, and it was very, erhm, complicated - fake flowers in vases, folded (in a crane?) red paper napkins. Came for lunch on a weekday with a friend who is a regular here. I've been dying to find a good Thai place and she really recommended this. The starter broth was light, and tasty. I ordered Pad Thai and my friend got the Crazy Noodles and I thought both were good. We got the crab rangoon for an appetizer which was really good and had a really nice crispiness to it. Also ordered the Thai iced coffee and Thai iced tea, which were good though I've had better. The service was very friendly and I'd say the prices looked pretty reasonable. Nathan's doesn't scream at you from the rooftops, but it fills that spot when you're feelin' for some Thai --and in my case-- want delivery. I feel like it taste better when you're eating there. Maybe I'm just crazy? and it's really the attentive service and ambiance that gets me. It' s not fancy schmancy or uber trendy, but comfortable & cute. It's located in a strip mall and unless you're looking for it, it doesn't stand out much. I ALWAYS GET A THAI ICED TEA and that rocks my world, EVERY time. My favorite Thai restaurant. I love the Pad Thai with tofu. The tofu isn't spongy and it always seems fresh. Food is always amazing no matter what you order. They have great appetizers as well and huge portions. I have ordered out and I have eaten in many times. The sitting area is a little dated and small but it's a decent place to eat. Food it really good over here. I like the option for the spice level over here. It's 1 - 10. I always go for 8,9 or 10. Quantity is really good over here. Try out the garlic noodles n the red curry. The options for the appetizer is also good. Try out the shumai, crab Rangoon n chicken satay. Awesome Thai food. The Main courses and the appetizers are really good. I really really really like Nathan's..... I eat their Panang Curry with vegetables basically every time I go there. I should mention that there is no alcohol here... something we learned the hard way when we went there for a family bday dinner. It's not even BYOB, so just be ready to drink tea/water/tapioca drinks. It's very quaint inside... and when you go often enough, the waitress remembers you. They're all really nice... and I do agree with other Yelpers that it can tend to be really slow. But it's worth the wait (at least I think so). Try a bunch of different items, I've liked everything I've ever ordered (Jeep Shumai, Crazy Cousin Noodles, Garlic Scallops YUM, Crab Rangoon and Spring Rolls). read more

When I visit some Asian restaurants here in the US I am often left disappointed with the food I order, especially when it comes to the spicy level. Some restaurants claim they serve spicy food, but to me it is a joke. Anyways when I go to Nathan's noodles, I love their DUCK pad see ew and cashew duck. They know how to cook duck very well..so if you guys have never tried duck in your whole life, maybe you should try it at Nathan's sometimes. Oh yeah, forgot to mention you can specify how spicy you want your meal on a scale from 1-10. The first time I asked for spicy level 10. Well , let me just say... they obviously do not joke about it. I've always been a fan of Nathan's Noodle, but this last visit I was a bit disappointed. Ordered the crab rangoon which was always my favorite, but this time there was barely any filling, maybe a teaspoon and it was all wonton. I ordered chicken pad Thai, also a past favorite and it had very little chicken and no crushed peanut on top like they used to do. I also ordered Nathan fried rice which was supposed to be made with shrimp, chicken, onions, corn, tomatoes, broccoli, snow peas and egg. I got fried rice with some shrimp tails, two whole shrimp, one piece of chicken, and two pieces of broccoli. No snow peas, but what looked like green beans. Actually it looked like the bag of assorted frozen veggies you can buy at any grocery store. What happened Nathan? Don't let your food suffer for trying to save a buck. read more

Have I tasted the best plate of pad thai outside of the city? Quite possibly. The taste is amazing, the portion size is great and the medium on the spicy chart is enough for a nice kick but not enough to cause smoke come out of your ears. I tried it for the first time about three weeks ago and based on the dish alone, this place deserves five stars but the service is the area where they lack positive notes. We went on a friday aroud six and the restaurant was empty yet it still took our waitress about a half hour to acknowledge my party. I was annoyed during dinner because we had to chase after her for water and things of the sort. I'll be back for that pad thai though...what can I say, I'm a sucker for tough love. read more

The food is good here. It doesn't blow my d!ick off or anything...but its solid and certainly worth giving a try! The chicken rice noodle soup is delicious and so, soooo comforting when you're not feeling well. The stand out dish for me is the Pad Woon Sen! I love those glass noodles! They also make a solid Pad Thai dish! They offer a nice scale of heat to be added to the food. Heat levels run from 1 to 8, 8 being the spiciest. Level 6 for me is enough spice to get my nose running and yet still be able to taste the food. If you are not really into spice maybe toy with spice levels 2-4... I have a friend who orders level 8 and many times he is sweating as he eats his fried rice. You can add spice to any dish you like! read more

Small place in a strip mall...next to Christopher's. The inside is nice with decorations all around the dining area. Food choices are plentiful. As soon as I sat down, soup was brought out. It was full of flavor. Add a bit of the red sauce in the little ceramic container for an extra blast of flavor...and heat. For my meal, I had chicken Pad Thai off of the lunch menu; it was really good. Only ask is that I would have liked to see a few more peanuts in the Pad Thai. It came with a side; I chose the cucumber salad...very tasty. The lunch portion was huge, so I imagine the dinner size is gargantuan. Service was good and quick. There were several other people in there for lunch during the week, which is always a good sign. I often have to look far and wide when ordering Asian food. Too often have I ordered Chinese food and been utterly disappointed by the poor quality of the meat. Thai food has a lot more noodle w/ meat dishes, which lowers the amount of meat in the dish and allows them to up the quality. The quality of meat is the most important thing to me when going to a Chinese, Thai, or Korean restaurant. Quality meat shows me that the chef and owners care about the food they serve their guests, not just how much money they're making. Nathan's meat is always good quality, never fatty or gristly. Much appreciated. Pad Thai w/ chicken, Pad See Elw w/ Beef, and Coconut Curry w/ Vegetables are some of my favorite dishes. However, I haven't tried a bad dish yet. They'll customize how spicy you want each dish. I always like to push it on a few, and then get a more base one to settle my taste-buds. They'll remember you if you're a regular and will greet you with a smile. Having a slightly more rare name like Ross gets me recognized even when I'm just placing an order on the phone. Always like that. I can't stop by here without ordering a Honeydew Melon Bubble Tea. I'm sure there is a better Thai restaurant out there but this one blends fair price, with quality food that's consistently good every time I order. Unfortunately, Yelp doesn't allow 4.5 stars, that would be a perfect rating for Nathan's. Strictly food-wise, this place is 5 stars. The Pad Thai and Lard Nar is the best I've encountered in the suburbs and the food quality is always consistent. The meat cuts are always fresh and lean, never any gristle, fat, or anything untoward. There are also options other than strictly traditional Thai, which is good for people like my wife that have peanut oil allergies. There is a plentiful selection, you can get rice pretty much any way you can think of, and there are six different degrees of spiciness for discerning tastes (instead of the not-so-helpful "hot" or "mild" variety). LOTS of good options for vegetarians too. My only deduction seems to mirror that of some other reviewers here: the spotty service. It's never been unpleasant, on the contrary, the staff has always been very friendly and they'll remember you. But it can be slow. Not dreadfully so, but it doesn't seem very efficient, most likely they're understaffed. Ultimately though, I think the food far outweighs any slow service from time to time. Definitely recommend Nathan's! read more
