So I came here for the ice cream. Tbh I love me some good ice cream. You could actually call dessert my main weakness but I have to admit that I have many weaknesses, so that wouldn't really be accurate. But, I do have a weak spot for dessert, it's true. So, I'm a moment of weakness, I came to Nekter. They were out of the vanilla (bummer) so I was forced to go with chocolate. And actually they were pretty lacking in toppings that I was interested in (a valid complaint from me wowow what a good job by me), and so I only added chocolate sauce and chocolate chips. Overall? Meh. The ice cream didn't blow me away at all from a taste or consistency perspective, and I didn't even finish everything. I might feel differently if they had more options for toppings, or if they hadn't ran up of vanilla. But alas, it was not meant to be, and I left disappointed. So be it. I love love love Nekter juice. The greenie is my favorite but you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. So why the 2 stars? The wait. I don't know what it is about this location, but the wait is always very long. Today I waited 35 minutes for a juice. THIRTY FIVE. It was sort of busy, but not too crazy. I've frequented the Nekters in downtown HB and the Bella Terra and have never had to wait this long. Usually 10 minutes max even when it is super busy. I don't know what it is about this spot, but they either need to get more blenders etc for the juice orders they get or at least warn their customers about the long wait. Let me start off by saying this Nektar used to make the best bowls i've ever had, hands down. They were always well crafted and used better ingredients than other juice bars. I used to work at Jamba Juice and Nektar's bowls just taste better. They also had great service the last time i was around. A year later, however, I came back to Nektar for a banana berry bowl during a rush. I didn't expect the bowl to come out for at least 20 minutes, which was fine. So i sat down, and relaxed. It ended up being forty minutes until I realized everyone in line before me had left. It happens. Someone probably took my bowl but the staff didn't even flinch. The crew was ridiculously slow today but I ignored it because i'm sure everyone was new. They were reading, albeit slowly, from the recipe menus and had that thousand yard stare before they started up the blenders. I gave them a break. That was fine. But then, I told someone who I assumed was the manager what the problem was and she just sort of looked around for my ticket (which was thrown away) and a coworker pointed her to the fridge. So she took out SOMEONE ELSE'S BOWL, and said "I think Gary took it". This is the point that ticked me off. No apology, no sorry we'll make it again, no customer service standards. She just passed this old ass bowl across the counter and offered me bananas and granola to fix the problem. Worse, once i bolted out there and ate it I could taste peanut butter which means one of two things in smoothie making world: The blenders aren't cleaned properly; or this was a special order and you didn't read the ticket. If i gave it to my girlfriend, who is allergic to peanuts, i'd probably be at the hospital. I hate giving out one stars but jesus christ read more

I believe my order was taken by the manager who asked as I walked into the shop today, in front of all of the customers, "Do you want a tip?". I said sure, thinking she was going to share a menu recommendation, but instead said that they were running behind and there'd be a 15 minute wait and if I was fine with that. To which I responded that it was ok with that and she proceeded to take my a order right after. I asked if I would only be able to order from the fixed bowls in the menu or if I would be able to select the ingredients I wanted in my bowl, as is the case is other similar establishments. She said I was able to custom make my own bowl and and began to ask for specific in a condescending tone. I understood that they were busy but needed the information inquired to be able to place my order as quickly as possible. When I finally made my selection of ingredients she went on to say how I sad selected the same items that is in one of the fixed bowls in the menu, again, in a disrespectful tone and loud enough for all other customers to hear, including my nephew who was standing a few feet away by the entrance. I tried as quickly as posible to finalize the transaction to move on. I am providing a 3 star review because of the other staff that did a good job preparing my bowl, otherwise I'd give this business a 1 star review due to this negative experience. Extremely disappointed in their açaí bowls. I bought the mango bowl and paid $10 for it, expecting it to be a big serving. They only filled the bowl up half way with smoothie and then added just a few fruit slices. The bowl wasn't even filled to the top, like some other Nekters. One of my favorite places to go. I've gotten to where I go almost every day. The menu is perfect for after a workout at John Garey Fitness. For a long time, I've been a 'creature of habit' and got the Health Nut but I switch it up and get an Almond Butter bowl or one of the blended juices. No matter what I get, it's amazing. Everyone that works there is awesome, especially Val and Will. The Nektar staff so friendly, they make me feel like I'm part of the family. I glanced over at the other reviews and am shocked to see the 'one star' 'cause I've must have been there almost 1000 times and have never had a problem with the customer service. I actually really appreciate the courteous and prompt service given to me for about three years. The wait time is minimal and it's always a nice experience overall. read more

Super "natural" smoothies. Most smoothie places usually add a ton of sweeteners or sugar and Nektar it tastes really pure. I ordered the health nut with almond butter plus spinach and kale. I've been on a juice and smoothie kick lately. When I saw that Nekter Juice Bar had just opened at The Marketplace... well, frankly, the carnivore in my is embarrassed to say that I was excited. It's true. I was excited about a new juice place. And this isn't just any juice place, this is the yuppiest of yuppy juice places. The sort of place where you can buy a juice cleanse for a mere $50/day. And, yes, the sort of place I go to. I haven't opted for any smoothies yet, but I've gotta say the juices sure are healthy. Yep. Healthy. Meaning, they aren't the tastiest in the world, but they aren't awful, and they definitely cram way more veggies in there than any place I've ever seen. My only complaint, the juices come out close to room temp unless you request ice. And they can't blend the ice with the juice, so if you like your juices cold, just remember to order it over ice and they'll give you the bigger size cup so you don't lose any juice. (Remember learning about displacement back in chemistry? Good stuff.) In any case, if I don't feel like making my own or driving to a cheaper or Mexican juice place, then I'll drop a whopping $6.50 for a 24oz... while feeling like a total yuppie. read more

I've been hoping and hoping a juice bar would open in Long Beach and lo and behold, I saw that a Nekter Juice Bar had opened at the Marketplace. It's in a great location right next to Trader Joe's with various workout studios nearby so it's perfect for stopping by for a little pick me up after sweating your booty off or your grocery shopping. They have a variety of fresh pressed juices made with veggies and fruits in combinations to target specific needs from a toxin flush to an energy boost. They also have shots, smoothies, and bowls with acai and fruits blended together and topped with granola. Service is friendly and you get a free juice if you write a yelp review, get 10% if you check in on Facebook, and they also have a rewards card where you can get stamps/hole punches for a free drink when you've accumulated enough. They do 1-3 day customized juice cleanses which range in price but they also have ready-made 1 day cleanses for $52 which work out just as well. Such a great addition to the neighborhood. The juice is good but it takes way too long. Almost every time I go, I see someone ask for a refund because it takes too long to make. I plan about 20-30 minutes to get a juice here, seriously. Never go in a rush. It's not that they are swamped either, the staff is generally slow, unmotivated and not terribly concerned about working efficiently for customers. They often stop or wander off the floor when there are multiple customers waiting so that there is one person (or none) making multiple juices. Also, I question their cleanliness practices. I saw a guy make bowl after bowl in the same blender without washing in between. I've seen a guy empty a strainer/filter/thingy by smacking it on side of trash can and then putting back into machine. Yuck. I once saw the staff all stop working to sample some new juice in the back. There were 7-8 drinks in front of me and that day I waited nearly 40 minutes for my juice. It was my day off and I had a book but that is still cray. One star because juice is good, but minus 4 for underwhelming staff, wait, cleanliness and price. read more

I've been to this juice bar several times under the assumption that they use organic produce. Well much to my dismay I was mistaken. That in itself is enough to halt my frequenting this establishment. Other than that, if you are okay with possibly consuming harmful GMOs, the juices and fruit bowls TASTE great! I've never had a smoothie here but I'm sure they are just as suffice. The customer service is less than impressive. I understand how long it takes to make a juice (i make them at home almost daily) so i'm not complaining about that. Nektar is a good spot to go to if you don't have time to make your own smoothie or juice at home. Some of their drinks were like the ones we make at home so we didnt order any of those. Instead I ordered the Chocolate Dream and what a healthy and delicious smoothie it was. It's made with avocado, dates, carob, vanilla bean cashew nut milk, cacao, and some agave. Drinks are a little expensive but you get what you pay for which is healthy ingredients. I'd come back to try their other smoothies and juices. They also have a cleanse... For one day it cost $65! The first time I came here I tried their bowls. I have tried bowls from other juice and smoothies bar, but this one definitely has to be my favorite out of all. They're able to substitute to any other kind of fruits that you like and add extras of anything you want also. The next time I came, I decided to try one of their drinks. I was referred to this location. My friend said it's good if you are okay with an expensive juice that's not organic. So, with that being said I had the Popeye's acai. When paying a premium I prefer organic. However, the smoothie was pretty good. It satisfied a craving. But, not sure I would go out of my way next time I'm in town. read more

The first time I came here I was fairly dubious about the idea of liquid meals...but then they gave me a free $5 gift card and my entire point of view changed. Haha just kidding. But really though, Nekter has really grown on me the past few times I've been there (always after a run or workout). I recommend their peanut butter bowl, it's like eating straight out of a jar of peanut butter except there are fruits and granola mixed in there for health reasons. Yum.
