Great place to catch the sunset and have nice dinner with friends. But the food is okay. Reminds me of food you'd order at a pool. You simply can't beat the view! A sunset is simply breathtaking and even better with a fabulous band playing as the sun goes down at Nelsons! The patio are is lovely but can get chilly once the sun meets the ocean. Their are fire pits and fabulous drinks and wonderful wait staff. PIersong "Paul" was wonderful and attentive to our group. The lobster roll is delicious! Good portions for the cost and amazingly tasty (not drenched in mayonnaise) and served chilled. Served with a side salad or fries (I opted for the salad). I give a lot of 4s but I wouldn't stay for service if I thought it was below a 3 and I try to find places with some aspect that is above average. This place in of itself is probably on a 3 meaning average as it evokes the ocean-side hangout but on a resort. The view/ open air seating works well on a nice day. There are lots of tv screens but the actual events look limited - maybe you can ask to change stations. The food is prepared well but it is in the chips and guacamole or burger realm. Service is as good as we wanted it to be - we just ate so we had some drinks and chips with the required relaxed interaction. Being a resort, be prepared for some odd interactions: somebody was going to try and bring in their Great Dane so I'm glad we were leaving just then! Park in the free lot if you can but you may have to wait for a space. We were there after lunch and spaces became available pretty quick. Closer to 3pm the lot was pretty locked up with longer waits. Valet may not be such a bad option if you're on a deadline. read more

A great place to have a date or bring your out of town guests here. It has a gorgeous ocean view. Sipping a drink while enjoying the sun and ocean is the best way to enjoy life. After a hike along the Terranea hiking trail, we stopped by Nelson's to get a drink and some snacks. Since we had seen a lot of posting of the giant pretzel on Yelp, we ordered one to go with our drinks. It was the best pretzel I have ever had. It was soft and tasty. Besides pretzel, I heard that the hamburger is excellent, and fish and chip is also amazing. we shall return soon to try out their food on the menu. Our server provided outstanding service to us. COVID-19: Social distancing is enforced at this establishment. All of the staff wears a mask. All customers are expected to wear a mask too. Some of the staff also wears gloves. There are some hand sanitizers available for customers to use. This place is available for take outs and has some indoor and outdoor seating available with limited capacity. They are also sanitizing in between customers. While I was eating my food in this establishment several days ago, I asked if they had any special offers and they weren't offering any at the moment. They currently don't have happy hour. They also do not allow pets in their establishment. This place is right on the beach, completely surrounded by a five-star hotel. But you don't have to stay at the hotel to go to the restaurant. They have golf cart shuttles that take you from the free parking area down to this restaurant. The location is just outstanding! It is right on the ocean with views in every direction . I had the Nelsons burger which was quite delicious and my friend had the fish tacos and she said they were really good. The service was friendly and efficient. I really like the laid-back feel of this place even though it is in a super fancy hotel area. The shuttle driver was very entertaining and made you feel right at home. The hotel had all kinds of interesting activities going on there was dog training and a virtual reality race course and other things I'm not exactly sure what. I will never grow tired of coming to Nelson's. The view is absolutely amazing and we have even seen whales swimming by in the ocean while dining here. It's a great place to stop by after a hike with the pups. They give very generous portions and the food has definitely gotten better over the years. It's much more flavorful now. Though Palos Verdes can be a bit of a trek, it's totally worth it to stop by and grab a bite at Nelson's and enjoy the gorgeous Terranea Resort. Heard amazing reviews about this place. Boy have things changed. The service was excellent, facilities were very clean and nice. But the food was horrible. Ordered the nachos and were disgusted. For $28 they had the nerve to put canned cheese on the nachos with clearly reheated carne asada and store bought guacamole. For the main dish we had the brisket sandwich and the ahi sandwich. The brisket was disgusting and flavorless. The "brisket" was diced into small cubes with the vast majority of them being pure fat. The cheese was disgusting and the Cole slaw made me sick to my stomach. Easily the worst "brisket" sandwich I have ever had. The ahi sandwich was flavorless and unappetizing. The biggest draw here is definitely the amazing view! Their patio seating is pretty awesome. There are heaters for the cooler days and they do have nice umbrellas to shade diners from the sun or rain depending on the weather. Their indoor seats are popular among those who like to watch the sports games on the TVs. The staff here were friendly and helpful. Some Yelpers' reviews noted that the food wasn't their forte. I tend to agree, but think that this also depends on the dish. The quinoa burger isn't something I would order again because the patty was very mushy and couldn't stay together. There are other quinoa patties out there that do not have this mushy consistency. The sweet potato fries that came with the quinoa burger were greasy and lukewarm. On the other hand, the blackened salmon salad is fairly decent and is one of their best salads. Added bonus - it's both tasty and healthy. This is a mixed rating review: Reservations: One star. I made reservations on the phone specifying that it is a special occasion, actually special occasions and a table on the water. The reservation I made was a week before the date. The person on the phone was so helpful and said everything will be set up perfectly and yes a table overlooking the water. I call the day of to change the number of guests and confirm the table over looking the water. The person who answered the phone said they can't guarantee the table. I will get the table but no guarantee ever, it's their policy. I told her that when I made the reservations this policy was not mentioned. She kept repeating their policy. In other words be careful with reservations. Service: ten and twenty stars. I get there before guests, I tell Dominic my issue. Dominic says hold on, gives me a great table. Then another table right on the water clears up and I ask Henry if I can have one. Henry asks the manager. Manager approves. Henry clears the table and we get an amazing table with an amazing view and sound of the ocean. Henry is the one helping us, with a smile and beautiful warmth, not the fake one. Food: two to three stars. Nothing was earth shattering. Nachos, I have had better at any hole in the wall Mexican restaurant. Chips and guacamole, northgate market is better. Burger was good. Lobster roll was ok. Seared tuna sandwich was dry. So food is made for the average American palate. Conclusion: the place is gorgeous and there are trails to enjoy. Nelson's at Terranea does not disappoint! We recently visited for a holiday dinner with family and friends this past Saturday. We booked our table on the outside patio which provides unparalleled EPIC views to enjoy while you dine. The grounds of the resort are phenomenal, the resort staff including valet are top-notch and the entire experience is world-class! After a beautiful walk from the valet, we entered Nelson's, where we were warmly greeted by the amazing staff. We were then brought to our table which was perfectly situated for an amazing experience and found a very thoughtful card left for us for our anniversary that we were also celebrating. Since we were outside we were also able to bring our four-legged family members. Pierce happily greeted and welcomed us and we were very happy about that, as we have had the pleasure of having him serve us before. He is an OUTSTANDING staff member who goes above and beyond to ensure that the experience is unforgettable. He even remembered the dessert that I had on our previous visit a few months ago. Pierce made the already amazing experience even better. Their wine list is amazing with two of my absolute favorites, Daou and Grgich! The food was absolutely delicious and two of us are vegan (me included) and their vegan appetizer, entree and dessert are all absolutely delicious. We finished the evening with a stroll around the exquisite grounds, enjoying the sunset and were then brought back to the valet area by their great golf cart shuttle service. This place and its staff deserve 5 stars and I would rate them higher if I could. Very disappointed! Food quality has dropped significantly since the last time I've been there. I had the * $26.00 * "Nelson's Burger" and French fries. I ordered it medium rare which it was. However, both the burger and French fries were served cold. My wife ordered the * $22.00 * Portabella mushroom "melt" sandwich which was also served cold and mushroom was non-existent. One of our friends ordered the quinoa salad which was sub-par at best. That added up to *$28.00* She added salmon to the salad and there was hardly a slice on it. Our other friend had the Spicy Chicken sandwich * $26.00 * and he said it was also cold and very dry. Otherwise, Nelson's was very accommodating especially because the restaurant was almost empty. We sat outside near the fireplace. Oh, I forgot to mention, our server was not experienced and she dropped a tray of wine glasses. The glass shards went all over including under our table and our guest ended up getting splashed by the wine or water that was in the glasses. There was no apology for the mishap... For about $150.00, the taste, quality and service of the restaurant was not good. The only thing good about our evening is our conversation and we were there so see the ocean view. I LOVED our experience at Nelsons. A group of 3 of us came here on Saturday 2/3 for lunch and was seated right away. We sat outside to enjoy the great views and was not disappointed. Our server Dylan was extremely helpful and had great recommendations. He was able to answer any questions we had about the menu with ease. Two of us got the chicken sandwich which was one of the best ones I have had ever. We started with the pretzel as an appetizer and that itself could fill us up. It was warm, soft and the dips that came with it were delicious. We had BOTH of the managers greet us, Zac and Evan, which made the lunch even better. I attended a wedding dinner here. The restaurant created a custom dinner party menu for the couple who had reserved a section of the patio overlooking the ocean. Every staff member we interacted with from the moment we arrived was attentive and accommodating. The family style dining option (platters of food at each table you could dish yourself vs individually plated meals) was a big hit. The food was nothing short of perfection. Every dish that came out was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. Being from Alaska, I am a self proclaimed salmon snob and the chef NAILED IT. I wish I'd taken more pictures but I was enjoying my self so much I was too in the moment to remember! Our custom menu had a signature cocktail for the couple which was one of the best margaritas i've ever had. I came here last night to celebrate a friend's birthday. I have to say I was completely unimpressed. We couldn't make a reservation so we had to show up and wait. It was 6 of us and we hadn't eaten in awhile. We get there and they tell us it's a 45 min wait and we agree to wait. I asked if we could go to the bar area and order drinks. When we get inside there plenty of seating near the bar. We sit at a high top table before ordering water. We eventually ask if we'll still be seated outside and we offered a chance to stay where we were and eat. We decided to wait for an outside table. We all chat for 45 mins before the hostess comes over and tells us we have to move because they seating people where we are seated. We ask her when our table would be ready. She said they were trying to find a place outside. Another ten minutes go by and we finally get seated outside by the fire pit. Our waitress was amazing. Yet the food wasn't. I ordered the very expensive sea bass only to get slivers of fish. I expected at least one side of the fish for the price. When they say blacken I need it to be blacker than me. The fish was hardly chard. The lemonade was great. My friend, the birthday boy, his burger was pink! The waitress comped his meal and have him a birthday cupcake. That was nice of her.
