Sweet redemption! To be fair my previous review was during full blast covid, very few restaurants had a great situation with the NV restrictions, and staffing and that surely had an impact. Came here for a birthday dinner. Four of the five entrees had a weird off flavor so much that we could not finish our food. We had the wedge salad, French onion soup, spinach salad and Caesar salad to start. Wedge salad was supposed to have pork belly on the top. What looked and tasted like chopped hot dogs on the side in some sort of salty BBQ sauce. Wedge dressing supposed to be blue cheese--this was not blue cheese. Dressing on the wedge had the same weird flavor as the entrees. Caesar was the only good thing we ate to start. Entrees were rack of lamb, sirloin, filet Oscar, ribeye and linguini with shrimp & lobster. Every entree but the linguini had the same weird taste. Like they put some weird spice in the food that made it inedible. Sadly they ruined a bunch of good cuts of meat. Seasonal vegetables on the side of all entrees were steamed pickled green beans with pickled cauliflower and pickled red cabbage. We are adventurous eaters but were not expecting pickled vegetables as a side. Again they all had the same weird flavor. Dared to try dessert. Flourless chocolate cake was literally a pile of frosting on a plate. An actual blob. Sent it back. Creme brûlée (fingers crossed)--nope. Curdled. Ice cream sundae -- can't miss there, right? Oh you can...fake whipped cream with the same weird flavor. Ice cream was ok. Talked to management. My discussion with the manager gave me the feeling like they have heard this story numerous times. It's probably hard for the front of the house when the food is so horrible, but left with the feeing that nobody cares and they're just going through the motions or something. Service was good, charged one item we didn't get but comped all the desserts. Meal was $340 with tip. We will not be coming back, sorry to say as we live nearby. read more

We've been going to Nevada Steak for several months and have always enjoyed it. We went again recently with their new menu and the food was better than it used to be. Had the scallops, which were cooked perfectly. The sautéed mushrooms used to be button mushrooms, but now they're big, hearty pieces of mushrooms that were very flavorful. The chicken breast was moist and tasty. They don't give you a choice or salad or soup anymore, but they give you a nice relish tray with a light sauce on the side. Very good! Will be going back often. We like to sit in the lounge area; it's vibrant and they have a lot of tvs. Fallyn, Patrick and Jerry are helpful, friendly servers and we enjoy bantering with them. I wrote a review for a visit on the 20th of March. I'm I able to find it on Yelp, only writing g again because a friend had the same experience. Apparently all the employees from the Steak house before the remodel have been let go. Bad move, again proteins undercooked and seems to be a misunderstanding on rare and medium. Even after an in-depth discussion on our definition, "pink", our waiter "ok rare". Next, the baked potatoes looked like an over cooked large raisin. We dined at Nevada Steak on a busy Father's Day and therefore the restaurant was packed. Service was slow and somewhat inattentive, but we shall assume that was just because of the busy evening. All three meals were delicious and priced appropriately. I was not at all impressed with the atmosphere due to the tables being so close together and the loud noise level. The new owner of the Tamarack has destroyed the best locals club in town in an attempt to maximize profits by replacing good employees and good venues with gaming machines and expensive cocktails. Gone is Sully's Sports Bar what use to be the best sports bar in town. Replaced with a re-done version of the old steakhouse called Nevada Steak which has mediocre food and $12 cocktails. Gone is Dan Eckert a 13 year employee who helped build the business and replaced by two bucket ass kid mangers with no knowledge of how to treat people or run the club. Disgusting! Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time or hard earned money here, send a message that is not ok to treat the people of this community like a commodity or long time loyal hardworking employees like dirt! read more

Quite possibly the best new steak house in Reno for fine dining. Made reservations through Open Table for Sunday evening and requested a quiet table or booth. When we arrived we were totally amazed at the beauty and elegance of the restaurant. We were seated in a nice booth in a quiet area. Patrick was our server. He was very professional, attentive and friendly. We give him a full ten. He very beautifully uncorked and served our wine. Off to a good start! We were served warm bread and butter and we ordered appetizers. Patrick recommended the crab cakes and he was right. They were perfect. Crispy on the outside and tender flaky inside. We also ordered the delicious shrimp scampi. For entrees we had New York Steak and Filet Mignon and lobster. Both our steaks, were tender and full of flavor. The lobster perfectly cooked. We had an option of soup or salad with our meal. We chose salad and it was fresh and tasty. On our plate was colorful vegetables and our choice of potatoes. I have only wonderful things to say about this restaurant as it was a fabulous experience. I would choose this restaurant hands down for a date night or special occasion. read more

If I could do half stars, this would be more of a 3.5 rating. But, I'll round it up to four this time. I really like the setting of this steakhouse. It's mostly red and taupe colors, accessorized by dark browns. And the walls are decorated with various pics of Lake Tahoe at sunset, and I find them beautiful and pleasant for a dinner experience. I was craving red meat, and the hubby saw that they have an "Early Bird" special on Mondays, so we ventured here. The maitre'd welcomed us as soon as we entered. The host seated us at a table, where our waiter greeted us by introducing himself and taking our drink order. We chose to keep it simple with iced water. We started with the beef carpaccio, which was sliced a bit thicker than how I know it to traditionally be. The capers and the greens gave it some additional flavor, though it seemed to be lacking in what should've been a lemon juice kick. For our second course, the hubby partook of their wedge salad with blue cheese dressing, though our waiter informed us that theirs usually comes with a balsamic dressing. I had their soup du jour, steak and potato soup, which was something new to me. While it seemed pretty good, it was a bit more salty than I like my food, but figure it's to be expected when eating out. For the main course, I ordered the "baseball" top sirloin 10oz steak. I requested medium, as Aaron informed me that they tend to cook on the rarer side. Imagine my surprise when the plate arrived, and my steak was nearly well done, hardly any pink inside. I took a bite, and it was chewy and definitely not the way I like to enjoy my meat. I waited for Aaron to come check on us, and he noticed the mistake immediately, and apologized profusely. I requested that it be taken back to the chef and remade, which he did without hesitation. In the meantime, I took a bite of my hubby's prime rib, dipped in au jus and creamed horseradish. The prime rib is not my favorite pick of meat, but his was cooked perfectly, and the bite was really delicious. His side of mashed potatoes wasn't perfect, but still quite edible, along with baby carrots and asparagus. I didn't mind waiting for my meal to be recooked since I was already starting to feel full on the carpaccio and soup. Aaron continued to stop by without seeming like he was trying too hard. Eventually, my plate reappeared, brought out by the maitre'd and it definitely had more pink, though it still wasn't as much as I preferred. I took a bite and I was able to enjoy it. My meal was accompanied by potatoes au gratin, along with the baby carrots and asparagus. Overall, it was a good dinner. I appreciated the effort to make it right and to make the evening a positive experience. We finished with Godiva Chocolate Lava Cake for dessert, along with a cup of decaf coffee. I liked that the coffee came with a tray loaded with little blocks of cream, sugar, chocolate stirs, and chocolate shavings. I took a few bites to satisfy my sweet tooth, finished the ice cream, knowing that wouldn't make it home, and boxed the rest for later. I would be willing to venture this restaurant again, if nothing else but than to feel like I'm dining at sunset on Lake Tahoe. Oh, and the three cheese bread was excellent. We recently visited the Steakhouse to celebrate my MIL's 77th BDay. She loved prime rib, so after reading some reviews, we were glad the Steakhouse was able to accommodate us (with our 8 and 6 year olds) in for early dinner at 5pm on a Sat. Aside from the typical casino restaurant cigarette smell, the atmosphere was nice. The server and staff were friendly, but our the food and service were a disappointment. The bread selection was nice and fresh, but the salad dressings (2 with ranch and 3 with blue cheese) were all so overpowered with fresh garlic, the kids and MIL wouldn't eat them. I love garlic, and house-made salad dressing, but it was too much! The escargot were perfection, but the giant prawn cocktail was awful! Overcooked, tightly curled prawns that were actually discolored grey and muddy tasting. Yuk! MIL and I both ordered prime rib, and the server described their "medium plus" as between medium rare and medium, but they were actually more like medium-to-well. Hubby's sea bass was good, and to her credit, for our children, the server offered kid's meal options but for $9+ each for a dry hamburger and overcooked hot dog and heaps of fries from the sports book, I think management should consider something like chicken or a small sirloin. We'd have gladly paid a little more for that. We had mentioned we were celebrating a birthday, but the odd timing of the dishes and the hit-or-miss quality of our food left us ready to go by the time dessert was mentioned. I had actually taken the kids to find the game room (which the hostess said the Tamarack didn't have!) when the server shows up with a cake to wish MIL happy birthday! Up side: that cake was amazing! Down side: she said they'd pack the remainder to go, but didn't...bummer! Overall, my MIL had a nice time, but we were all let down by the food and what seemed like a newer server's learning curve. If it would have been just hubby and I, I would have been in managment's ear when the muddy, hammered shrimp arrived, but I help my held my tongue out of respect for my MIL's special dinner. Otherwise, salads, shrimp, and overcooked prime would have all been sent back, and I would rather die that send that much food back! Lesson learned, as we gritted out teeth thru an absolutely mediocre, very pricey dinner, and certainly won't drive all the way from East Sparks to be let down like that again. read more

Much better than expected. Upon arrival at an underwhelming second rate casino my heart sank. Did I make a massive mistake? No, not at all. Nevada Steak does a great job of separating you from the casino. It's nice but not fine dining, no jacket needed. The food was very good with generous portions at prices you wouldn't see where I'm from. Everything was prepared exactly as ordered and it came out quickly. My wife and ate there on 3/27/21. First time since remodel. No Johnnie Walker Black at the bar! Appetizers were fair , crab cakes less so,Except the zucchini which was excellent. "House" salad was spinach, Gorgonzola, cranberries, candied pecans, balsamic and was excellent. Entrees were a surprise. My wife enjoyed the filet Oscar and said the bernaise sauce was the best she ever had. I tried the spaghetti/meatball entree with angel hair. I had two Italian grandmothers and ate the best Italian food in CHICAGO for six decades. This was as good as any I have ever had! They forgot fresh grated Parmesan. It was so good I forgot to ask. I took my daughter to a "Dad & Daughter" night". Service was standard, nothing exceptional. Trying t to impress by having the dinner settings laid out was more than a disappointment. My chair was on the the transition between carpet and hard floor. Nothing better than any "Dennys" The sautéed mushrooms were over cooked. The steak was nothing special. I had the 16 Oz ribyeye that was mostly fat and my daughter had the filet mignon that was under cooked. At this price I must say I was extremely disappointed. At least I can say I tried it, but the best thing that happened was the "cook" that brought us our food. He was a former Marine. If you want to spend $100 plus dollars on a 2 person dinner, there are much better places to go, like Texas Roadhouse. read more

I have visited Tamarack Junction many times since it is located so close to my home. I've offered a two-star rating because of the cozy ambience--it's not too big--and because of the friendly staff. And that's where it ends. The food is nothing to write home about, not horrible, but one can do much better at other casinos in town. The cafe serves its purpose, but the steakhouse is just average. The sports bar serves the normal fare for that type of joint, the atmosphere being its strong point. My biggest complaint relates to the casino. Let me preface this by saying that I'm not one of those people who expects to win with every spin on a slot machine, but Tamarack's machine operate more as vacuum cleaners than slot machines. I've have gambled hundreds of times at virtually every casino in Reno, but Tamarack is the worst, by far, in terms of offering players any chance to win. I have never seen anyone win anything close to a large payout, and I have won only ONCE in the last year, that being an $800 payout after spending $200. Fool that I am, I kept trying and trying until today, when my patience finally ran out. After losing yet again $100 in about five minutes, I headed for the door, dropping my player's card in the trash on my way out. From now on, I'll seek fun at the Peppermill and Western Village. First and last visit here.. we were seated in what felt like their lobby so the smells and sounds of the casino were very prevalent. Ordered two glasses of wine- tasted bitter and old. Appetizers were good. French onion soup was awful and inedible. I ordered the filet mignon, it was greasy and tasted off. My husband ordered the wild boar and we think that my filet may have been cooked with his wild boar, hence the grease and the taste?!? My twice baked potatoes and vegetables were not much better. I want to give this review 5 stars. The food was amazing, the service was great-- until we were asked to leave. We were a party of 12 celebrating a birthday and were seated in the private room in the back. It was nice to have our own space, separate from the rest of the restaurant. We ordered a couple orders of lobster mac and cheese, crab Napoleon and crab cakes for the table. I only tasted the Napoleon and the Mac and cheese. The Napoleon was delicious! It was crab and avocado with a chili sauce served with crispy wonton chips. The Mac and cheese was okay. The lobster tasted a little rubbery and the Mac was not cheesy enough for my taste. For the main course I ordered a petit filet, which came with scalloped potatoes, green beans and a salad. My dinner was excellent. My filet was cooked beautifully and the scalloped potatoes were delicious. Then I also couldn't resist a creme brûlée when the dessert menu came around. It was perfect! I also tasted the coconut cake and the Godiva lava cake. So my disappointment comes down to this-- we ordered a lot of food and wine, and I can promise you the bill was not cheap for 12 people. And at 9:30 on a Friday night, the sommelier asked us to leave. We were still drinking coffee and some were still eating their dessert. I couldn't believe that a steak house inside a casino that is open 24/7 would ask paying customers to leave. The restaurant had otherwise emptied out and we were the last guests, but 9:30?! This is a great spot with a smaller casino, friendly, kind of feel. The reason for the 3 star rating is because of the restaurant. The food is great for a coffee shop, but the hours are laughable. They close at 9:30pm on weeknights and 10:00pm on the weekends! 10pm on a Friday night in reno! Odd that the management at TJ would want to push people out after 10pm to go to another casino for food. They save a couple hundred dollars by closing the restaurant early and lose thousands of dollars as players leave to go get some grub. Not the sharpest management crew in Reno, but heck, they still have a cool place to go during the day. read more

Wow, what a bummer...this place started off great and just hit a brick wall. We went there last night for dinner with some friends. It was busy but we had a reservation so we got right in. We started off with an appetizer and then as we finished it the waiter started to set us up for our entrees. My wife commented that we were still waiting on our salads...he did an "oops" and brought them out. Got me wondering if our entrees were ready to be delivered and ended up get put under a heat lamp. When the entrees finally came out, one was cold and the other was severally overcooked. Took over 20 min to get replacement entrees and they were still cold and overcooked. The manager did a nice job of trying to make up for the food issues by comping our wine and not charging for the two entrees but we were embarrassed by how bad it was. I looked at the reviews on Yelp and Opentable and looks like other have had similar issues. This place probably needs a good six months to iron out the food issues before we would consider trying again. read more

Place was packed. Went in at 7pm Saturday night and food was shockingly good for the Tammy. I have eaten here once before years ago at the old steakhouse. It's worth it to come to the new one. Breakfast and wings at the sports bar obviously is going to dominate but this is a real steakhouse I rolled in thinking I would get the same ribeye they serve at breakfast or the food would be ok but it's the real deal. Wine list- love the Michael David ink blot, glad to see the well priced varietals you don't see everywhere else. Go ahead and be fancy if you want but plenty of slamming wine for a good deal. What a nice atmosphere from the moment we walked in. The restaurant itself is just a lovely room, with appropriate soft dinner music in the background. With that being said. I must say although my expectations were high, Tamarack Junction did not deliver a steak dinner I can give a four or even a five star review. Although we we're both impressed with the decor and the menu. The food was disappointing. After reviewing the menu display I thought I'd order the Sea Bass. But after hear my girl friend order a 6 oz Filet I thought in a steak house I should really have steak. So I too ordered there filet. It came with veggies and potatoes. Our services made numerous excuses, for how long it took to get us our meals. It still did adequately explain the wait. By the time we were served, the veggie were overcooked. And the potatoes undercooked. The filet seemed like a low quantity of meat. Overall it was a rather disappointing meal. Oh it was a birthday dinner, my girlfriend mentioned it too the server, who seemed to ignore her. But just as she was being us the bill for our dinner, she brought a rather tacky looking birthday cupcake in some kind of plastic container. It was the so unappealing, it truly completed a rather disappointing meal. No we will not be back. read more

I visited this restaurant 3 times, had both the ribeye and the rack of lamb. I go to Reno for skiing and I am always on a lookout for a new restaurant, some places in Reno are very good but very pricey, I was really surprised how good this steakhouse was and how reasonably priced, maybe it is under appreciated because of its out of way location. Combination of quality of food and first class service by Andrew makes me want to return again and again. I will no longer go to Roxy, this is a far better deal, far better food. read more

This restaurant is a go-to for our family dinners. The ambiance is casino-fancy, with comfortable, spacious seating and soft lighting. Bonus for not smelling of cigarette smoke! The menu is everything you could ask for in a steak house, including table-side preparation of various dishes: it's one of the rare places you'll see a Caesar salad prepared in front of you. Surf and turf is always available: their lobster mac & cheese alone is worth the trip. I tried cherries jubilee for dessert, as I'd never seen something set on fire right before serving. Fingers crossed for the addition of baked Alaska to the menu! The food is consistently well-prepared: an if it ain't broke, don't fix it style. You won't find foam or bubbles, but your meal will be fresh and well cooked. I love the mixed atmosphere! The last time I saw couples, families, cowboys and one group in formal wear. People-watching always contributes to a good time. Though I regret knocking a point off, I've got to acknowledge a bit of odd service. I was the first to arrive the last time, and asked the hostess to let me know when my party arrived. 30 minutes later, they called to say they had been waiting for me in the dining room...for the past 30 minutes. Let's just say I'm no stranger to a steakhouse. This is the first time we have tried Nevada Steak. Seems like in the past it has been closed or under construction. Be prepared to read by your phone flashlight. It's very very dim. Staff was very friendly and and attentive. Cocktails were excellent. Their house salad is a spinach salad which was excellent as well. My wife enjoyed her lobster bisque. Unfortunately my filet was a little over cooked, I didn't send it back because by the time I would have gotten another my wife would have been done with dinner. I will have to say I have never commented on a steak sauce before. However the steak sauce is just weird. Mixing A1 with horseradish sauce creates weird sauce that makes your tongue tingle and sting a bit. Again weird! Don't get me wrong I love horseradish with my prime rib but not my filet. Wasn't a terrible meal but if I'm spending the money will go to Bimini or Western Village instead. Tried something new, they can't all be winners! read more

We came here tonight (02/7/21) for our anniversary and we couldn't have had a better experience. I regret not getting our waiters name, he was wonderful-every member of the staff was. The food was amazing and the price point was completely fair. The staff put rose pedals on our table prior to our arrival and even gave us a complimentary desert for the occasion. Tamarack isn't super well known I don't think, for south Reno people I think it might be a little known but yah. AnywAys to business, so I went here once and it was quite delicious!!!! I had steak and something else that I can't remember but quite the experience I have to say. I might even dare to say that it is top 5 in the reno area for steakhouses. Staff is super pleasant and the food matches the service. I haven't been back in a while because I don't know if they have any specials for early birds or anything like that, I am definitely going to have to look into that and if that were the case I will probably be in there a lot more than the one time I've only been there. There is nothing that will ruin a good meal faster than poor service. The husband and I wanted a really good dinner in a classy setting to celebrate our anniversary. We heard great things and so made reservations online for 6:45 on a Friday. We arrived and were seated immediately. Our server, Michael, came right away and asked for our drink order. I didn't have a chance to read the wine list, so I asked for a recommendation on a white to go with fish or shellfish. He named a wine but as I started to ask if it was buttery or citrusy, he walked away. He came back a short time later and I ordered a glass of wine. My husband asked what beers were available; he was told that they don't have a list but could get something from the casino, what did he want? Well, if you're into craft beers, you know that telling someone to choose without a list or description is crazy talk. We blinked at the server a moment and he suggested an IPA (Lagunitas) that he likes. Hubs decided to take the chance. The wine and beer were both very good. We ordered our meals at the same time as our drinks. We were never asked if we wanted to start with an appetizer (not really an issue since we didn't want one). We ended up getting the Caesar salad for two with our entrees. The salad was made fresh at the table. It could have easily fed four people! The dressing was made from scratch and was delicious. There were some lightly browned ends on my romaine, but no wilted pieces. The wait time for our meals was reasonable and both plates arrived piping hot. I had the sea bass and Hubs had petite filet. My fish was just slightly underdone but was still very good. The small piece of lobster on top was overcooked, rubbery and slightly crunchy at the ends. The mashed potatoes and asparagus were fine. Hub's filet was perfect, as were his potatoes au gratin. The lobster macaroni was fair, but that lobster was also overcooked. Our server checked on us once during the meal. When we were finished, he walked past us multiple times without noticing our inactivity. It got a bit ridiculous after a while. We finally caught his attention and asked for boxes. Someone else came to package our food and asked if we wanted coffee or dessert; I ordered coffee and asked to see a dessert menu. He said that the server would bring one while he got the coffee. A moment later, the server showed up with our check and walked away before I could stop him. He came by a moment later and I caught his attention to tell him I'd ordered coffee and we'd like to see a dessert menu. He apologized, took the check back, and brought the menu. We decided not to order dessert, so I drank my coffee and again, we waited and waited (and waited) for him to show up with the amended check. On the drive home we discussed how we were disappointed with the service and how my meal could have been even better with just a bit more attention. The hostess was rude. I could understand if this place was a stand alone steakhouse, but it's in a smoky, old casino. All is asked was if we needed a reservation. A simple yes or no would have worked. Instead I got a snarky "if you don't have a table then yes." First, what does that even mean? Second, nice first impression. "I did not know that Outback Steakhouse moved into the tamarack junction and was able to cut the quality" The previous steakhouse was a beautiful private affair with table side service and intimate settings for family dinners. I preferred the location and level of service over other area restraunts during its prime. After renovations tamarack relabeled their new business "Nevada Steak" being from Nevada and living in south Reno I assumed it to be of the same caliber and quality of the previous establishment. The steakhouse is blended into the casino with iron mesh walls and a bar with built in slot machines. Once seated you realize quickly the establishment may have been an after thought to the designer. They needed something to convert the former sports bar into and by adding a few walls and a glass wine case you get a steakhouse. We started with an appetizer, the prosciutto wrapped prawns. Which at best are salty and barely prepared. Disappointing but I assumed the bite was in the meal and maybe I'm not cultured enough for prosciutto. We then moved to the table side Cesar which is no longer available so opted for two Cesar salads. Which apparently are served on a uncut piece of Romain heart wrapped in what appeared to be waffle crusted parmesan and "something sweet". It was acceptable but overall not enjoyable. So I held onto hope that the steak would be the saving grace. Lastly the main course was ribeye prepared Oscar style and a filet with shrimp scampi. I have never been so disappointed with a steak. The Oscar style was a type of white hollandaise with what tasted like sour cream covering the worst crab you will ever eat. The steak did not have a char to it so it was soft all around and honestly the quality of the cut was comparable to outback steak house. We opted for vegetable sides which appeared to be dropped in place without presentation and unflavored due to the sudden steaming they received prior to their delivery. With credit I believe they may have garnished it with pepper. My wife's steak took the prize for total disaster, her filet had been split into 4 smaller pieces each which tasted as if it had been prepared entirely in A1 sauce and covered with the most over cooked bland shrimp I have ever experienced. The bill was considerably higher than you would expect to pay at the Outback Steakhouse but also lower than other steakhouses locally. The dinner was so awful my wife was angry that we did not just buy groceries. It went over so poorly I was forced to take her out the very next day to Anthony's chophouse for a proper dinner. We spent $50 more and enjoyed every bite. I will never return to Nevada steak as they are merely a shadow of their once glorious steakhouse. read more
