Stopped in this morning for a nice, homemade breakfast. I was starving and needed to fill up for a long day. I ordered the Western Deluxe Omelette with American Home Fries and Whole Wheat Toast. We were quickly greeted by our waitress, Michelle. She was very knowledgeable of the menu and how the items were made. The food was delivered exactly how we ordered and super hot and fresh. This is exactly what I needed! The portions are huge, I was only able to eat half of my order. The omelette (once I added salt and pepper) was amazing. Full of ham, mushrooms, onions and cheese. I was very satisfied, and the bill was less than I expected. The thing that caught my eye was that there are so many "regulars" at this location that even the customers seemed to know each other. So nice to see that! The decor was very put dated but I can get past that with a good menu and great customer service. read more

Solid little diner. Usually come here for a quick fairly cheap breakfast. Definitely a blast from the past (70's) with the decorum. Remember the restaurant scene from Pulp Fiction? That kind of flavor. Nothing spectacular but solid food. Clientele is mostly the 'seasoned' crowd, so things shouldn't ever get rowdy. Have not tried anything but breakfast but the menu has the standard fare: burgers, sandwiches, salads, etc. Oh yeah...when you order eggs you get a 3rd egg for free if you ask for it. read more

Service was great, quick, responsive, kind. That's where it ends. Strike 1, something floating in water. What are you gonna do, it happens. Strike 2, silverware was dirty and needed new clean silverware brought to the table. Strike 3, Used the washrooms while waiting for our meal, bathroom was dingy and gross, smelled like it hadn't been sanitized in who knows how long. My inner alarm bells were going off now, but by the time we returned our food was on the table. Strike 4 , While it all looked well and good, the belgian waffle my daughter had about 3 bites of were dense and tasked like it come from a 20 year old pre mix pancake box. My oatmeal was served with what looked like sour milk. I left that milk alone and ate 4 or 5 bites of dry oatmeal. My appetize was gone by this point. My younger daughter ate most of her mushroom and cheese omlette and my husband ate most of his corn beef hash and eggs. We paid for our overpriced meal, said thank you to the very pleasant staff, and walked out knowing we were never coming back. I would have left it there. Except overnight, my daughter who ate her omlette woke up puking and has had a belly ache all day. My husband who ate his meal has been on the toilet all day. Please, do yourself a favor and do NOT eat here. I wish we had just walked out when I was iffy about eating my own meal. read more

We've been coming to this location for many years for Sunday breakfast. Have always had a good experience. The place is quirky for sure. But the food is consistent and relatively fast. In the last year, we have had several less than acceptable experiences with the staff. A couple of the servers have a real issue with customers coming in "close" to closing time. We're talking 1:15...when they close at 2 p.m. So, that has caused us to go to Leo's up the street for breakfast. Gave NB another chance this morning. Got there at 1:15...got the stink eye and had to listen to the servers complain to each other about not being able to get out on time. Our fault? Sorry. No more chances NB. read more

Very delicious and affordable food. When ordering eggs, there is a note on the menu that you receive the "3rd egg free" but you HAVE to mention it to the waitress! I nearly paid for an egg that I didn't have to. The crowd here, as expected, is your typical 50+ crowd (hence the 2:30pm closing time on weekdays). I have nothing but good things to say about the food and service though. Coffee was refilled very frequently and the staff was nothing but kind to our entire table. I even had some special requests for my burger that the staff were more than happy to accommodate (ever try egg on a burger? It is delicious!). All in all this is a great place to stop for lunch with a client, or your good friends - and you can expect to leave without your wallet feeling too much lighter. read more

Classic American meals served with great portions. Been going to New Beginnings for breakfast since I was a child. My favorite meals are Biscuits and Sausage Gravy or an Omelette with Crispy Potatoes with Onions. I always leave full! read more

My husband and I are loyal weekly diners and we missed the 28th St location terribly when closed due to COVID-19. We have been back a few times since reopening. We love the food and most of the servers. BUT today we were sorely disappointed. Signs were posted on the doors telling customers masks are required unless seated at a table. Hand sanitizer was provided at the cash register. Tables are basically socially distanced. UNFORTUNATELY, there were pitifully few patrons wearing masks away from their tables. Patrons were unnecessarily sliding through a space behind our table to get to theirs that necessitated bumping us. Our server wore her mask appropriately and was completely professional. Other workers were wearing their masks below their noses or lower and then pulling them down to speak. The server near our section was in chin-sling mode the entire time we were there. AND when a patron came in without a mask and asked her if it was okay, the answer was "you don't really need one." We were appalled. We won't be back. No effort was made to enforce anything. Also, I went online for contact information for this restaurant on the website, but the only thing available was a phone number which seems to be perpetually busy. I would prefer to share my misgivings directly to a manager or owner privately instead of a public review like this, but since that was not available, here I am making my concerns public. If there was a way to let the manager/owner know I would like a follow-up conversation, I would do that. As it is, we just won't be back. That is unfortunate because we really used to like this place. When front of house is so lax, it makes me cringe to think what is going on back of house. read more

New Beginnings does one thing incredibly well - breakfast. They're not open past mid-afternoon. In the mornings, you can see all sorts of groups of friends starting their day together with a tasty breakfast. It's not the best breakfast there is, but they give you a lot of food and it's really good. There are tons of regulars, and the waitresses are really friendly and they try to remember your favorite things. read more

ditto on what benjamin said. in particular, it's a rather mundane interior that is brightened by terribly friendly waitstaff, plenty of light, and interesting elderly local types. prices can get a little weighty, but once the eats arrive the prices make sense: immense portions. and good, to boot. hit up the special (and ask for your third egg for free), and it's a solid balance of value and tastiness. stop in! read more

Rude each time we've gone. Ordered the Mexican chicken omelette for coworkers and each order had gross freezer burnt tasting chicken. We returned the food to see if we could get our money back. Absolutely horrible food. Went for breakfast and waited almost 45 minutes to get our food. The sausage was overcooked to the point of almost being jerky and tasted rancid, my over easy eggs were cooked to hard and my potatoes had a hair in them. Stay away. read more
