Best Chinese food in town. I've been going to New China for years and the food along with service is tasty and efficient. Try the War won ton soup - warms you up on chilly day. Salt and pepper squid and shrimp are a must as well. If you like fried rice, I recommend the house special - it has everything you want in one dish. read more

Very friendly service! Nice environment. Food was good. The General Tso's chicken and the beef broccoli were good. They tasted as I expected they should taste. The pork fried rice was okay, at best. Very bland. I've had some really good pork fried rice in the Bay Area and have yet to find good rice in Redding. The chicken chow mein was okay. The noodles were a little over-cooked. All in all, very similar to Panda Express except the meat doesn't taste frozen. Panda has got them beat on the chow mein though. read more

What we ordered: Crabcheese wontons, vegetable egg rolls and vegetable egg foo young. Pros: -Order ready fast -The wontons were decent, what you would except and of course imitation crab meat. -Mixed vegetables that were served in the sauce on top of the egg foo young were medium crisp and tasted fresh. -Staff was helpful and courteous, they did not make me wait long to pickup and order. Cons: -The egg rolls and egg foo young were both very saturated with oil. -Egg foo young was close to burnt at the edges and very gooey in the middle. They were shaped more like gigantic ravioli (skinny edges and a huge lump in the middle) than traditional egg foo young. -Egg foo young was bland. -Gravy/sauce was very runny, almost like an au jus. My opinion on these items which are closer to appetizers is to go somewhere else. The egg rolls and egg foo young can be ordered at Lim's for a much more appetizing meal. read more

I got the sesame chicken combination meal - very good sesame chicken. The lo mein and pork rice are good with or without any extra sauces. The eggrolls are only filled with cabbage so they're kind of bland on their own but they go nicely with the other food. I'd definitely get take out from here when craving Chinese food. read more

I went here on a trip because I was really craving Chinese food and this was not only nearby but open (unlike the first place I tried that was randomly closed despite posted hours). The service was stellar. They were attentive and sweet and clearly care about the work. We were in there at an odd time and most people coming through were for take out. We had a group and so tried a bunch of different foods. The good: Egg rolls (very flavorful, especially for veggie egg rolls) The orange chicken - had a great texture was delicious The pan fried noodles with pork. The noodles were chewy-so watch out -but the dish was overall fantastic. The stuff I'd skip next time: Broccoli chicken - it had no sauce. It kind of just tasted like really tender chicken (too tender) and cooked broccoli. We didn't even bother eating it. Mongolian chicken- I suppose it was a fine dish; it just wasn't quite what we were hoping it would be. It was mostly just spicy chicken with a slight sauce and then some hidden scallions and noodles. I didn't try the sweet and sour prawns but the rest of the table loved them. I'd go back; I'd just be careful what I ordered. The food is good. Sweet and sour chicken, chow mein, sesame chicken and Mongolian beef are my favorites. Service is always fast and we can get in and out really quick. My only complaint is that they don't seem to like kids very much. Anytime my husband and I bring our kids they always sit us in the table farthest in the back and next to the bathroom. Our kids are quiet and really well behaved so it's kind of irritating to get sat at a crappy table (pun intended). We tried going with all four of our kids and they still tried to sit us at the table in the back when clearly it wasn't big enough for all 6 of us. I ordered just two items over the phone. Pork fried rice and Kung Pao Chicken. I waited 50 minutes. When I got home, the chicken was cold and slimy, the rice, warm, and completely flavorless. Sesame oil and soy sauce could not even save this meal. This is super shitty, because my visit two months ago, I got the wrong item. I ordered Chicken Chow Fun and received Chicken fried rice. Let me begin by saying that I'm not one to crave Chinese food. Maybe twice a year - three times if I'm feeling especially crazy... What I like about New China is that they provide pretty good food - very quickly. Customer service is just okay. We choose to avoid being served by calling in an order and picking it up to go. If I have one bad comment to make ,its that their table side service sucks - they are all very kind and polite but seldom Interact with customers . The best thing to do is get a take out menu, call in your order and take it home . second to the last time I was there was a Sat afternoon around 3pm. I think possibly 4 tables were occupied . One waiter who surely should have been able to handle that . I went in with my elderly aunt and a younger family member . We were deep in conversation , so at first I wasn't paying too much attention. We had water & our menus - had decided what to order and had placed our menu's upside down on the side of the table . The only waiter there took - 4 phone orders & 2 walk in orders whilst we waited For him to come to my table . I'm usually a rebel rouser if I'm finding myself in a position where I'm ready to spend money but I'm basically feeling ignored. I didn't want to kick up a fuss because of my auntie but this guy got on my last nerve ! Id say we were seated for well over 30 minutes b4 he came to take our order. I did mention my annoyance with him but ( and don't start yelling, racist at me ) but he played the language barrier card, and couldn't quite " understand" ! If I had gone in alone , I wuda walked out . Now about the food , I've been to almost all the Chinese eateries in Redding. I moved up from the San Francisco Bay Area and have been to,and tasted the best of the best. And this place is by far the best food in town . The dishes are excellent and generous - one of my fav Chinese dishes is walnut prawns . They are usually at least $4- $5 more than any thing on the menu - and normally if you are lucky u may get 7 small prawns , and usually highly over breaded , & greasy ! Not here .!!! It is indeed higher priced than other dishes but I was shocked and happy to be served " A MOUND" of prawns -. I actually didnt count them. The whole plate was runneth over with both prawns & Walnuts . The walnuts were perfect - not too sweet - the breading on the prawns perfect! The sauce very yummy ! This place is great! We've eaten here about half dozen times. It's about 20 minutes across town for us, or we'd probably go more often. Some of my favorites are the spring rolls, pot stickers, hot and sour soup, and war wonton soup. I also love the Mongolian beef. The bus boys are super attentive with clearing finished dishes and refilling water. I am amazed with how quick they are. We're from the San Francisco Bay Area and were traveling through Redding when we happened upon New China. We're foodies, but enjoy supporting local family-owned businesses. Despite being busy on a Saturday evening (the dining room was full), the staff was very attentive and courteous. The menu is huge with a lot to choose from, even vegetarian dishes. We ordered the Beef with Pan-Fried Noodles, Pepper Steak, Sweet & Sour Pork and House Special Fried Rice. It was delicious! Prices for our meal ranged from $7.25 to $9.95 and the portions were huge! I wish we had 2 more people with us so that we could also order from the Chef's Special menu. If you're looking for a nice casual neighborhood restaurant with good food, this is the place. If you're looking for a Michelin star, this isn't for you. Will we come back? Oh, definitely! And maybe next time, we'll bring more people with us so we can order more dishes! read more

My daughter and her family came up yesterday, and we wanted chinese. I came here with a friend 2 weeks ago and had Mongolian beef and I loved it so I decided to get take out. We thought it was perfect!! The spicy dishes were spiced just right, everything had the correct textures, and was not too heavy with soy sauce. We had broccoli beef,mushroom chicken, pork chow mein, twice cooked pork, chicken in garlic sauce,and general tso's chicken. Every dish was excellent!!
