The standout dish by far was the walnut shrimp. It was honestly the best walnut shrimp I've ever had. The shrimp were perfectly golden and crispy, and the sauce was light and balanced instead of being overly sweet or heavily coated like you often find at places such as Panda Express. The shrimp stayed crispy, and the flavors were excellent. We also ordered the beef with green onions, which had great flavor and was cooked well. The spicy seafood noodle soup was another solid dish with plenty of seafood and a nice level of spice. The beef fried rice was simple but very flavorful, with egg mixed throughout, making it a great side that could easily be a meal on its own. We also tried the jajangmyeon, and it was really good. The noodles had a great texture, and the rich black bean sauce was a comforting dish Overall, everything we ordered was delicious, but the walnut shrimp completely stole the show. I used to frequent this place for every family celebration, and have remained a loyal customer even through several ownership changes. However, we will not be coming here. I'll spend our hard worked money somewhere else. From the moment we walked in, the server gave us unprovoked attitude. My mom kindly asked her for one more kimchee, and this lady stared at her, rolled her eyes, and never came back. She completely ignored us again with another request while having an annoyed look. The whole time we were there, we only requested for two things, and she purposely ignored us both times whilst looking annoyed. There was no language barrier as we speak the same language as her. There was only one other group in that restaurant, so it's not like she was overwhelmed and there were several other servers. At the end, our bill already came with a 20 percent tip included in it. No one came to take our payment, so we went up to the cashier. The cashier told us that our server is the manager. No wonder the service was horrible--she clearly knew that a 20 percent tip was going to be automatically included in the bill. We will no longer be coming here. There's another similar restaurant a block from here that we will now be going to. We only frequented here for nostalgic sake and we wanted to remain loyal customers. PRIVATE ROOMS RIDICULOUS RULES I requested the back private room for a dinner for 50 guests one week in advance. The lady on the phone said I needed to come by and leave a deposit (something they never used to do). After realizing I didn't have the time to drive there (I live in LA) I called to see if they could waive the deposit. She did except she then forced me to order everything in advance. She was very pushy. First she tried to make me order off their special banquet prefixed menu which has a lot of fancy dishes like jellyfish and seafood, stuff that most non-Koreans won't enjoy. So after explaining that she allowed me to order what we like off the menu BUT after she said "that's not enough dishes, the banquet packages are $$$ and you only ordered xxx much" Half of my guests were children (under 12yrs old) so I knew if I ordered more it would be a lot of food wasted... but the lady on the phone was not being understanding. When we hung up I was pretty upset. (We ended up with tons of leftovers ordered way too much). At the dinner we had asked for 6 tables but a few guests couldn't make it so we ended up with 5 tables. They were not happy that we changed plans, even though they had plenty of time to cancel the looks on their faces was very off putting. One table had only 6 guests yet we had to keep our order of 7 dishes (kung pao shrimp, fried chicken, dumplings, black bean fish, sweet sour pork, kung pao chicken and Mongolian beef) that had to be boxed up. Service was slow we asked for water but they would bring only for a few glasses not for the whole table. So we had to ask again. We asked for soy sauce and again, they brought it for one table but not the others! So my sister and I were basically "working" and serving out guests instead of enjoying our meal. Thats not good customer service. The place was half empty at 6pm it wasn't busy, the staff weren't communicating with each other. Update: I got the manager's reply and to me it sounds like they're still focusing on the money loss rather than letting customers order what they think best fits their needs. We gave them an extra $100 towards the tip not because of excellent service but because they made me feel so bad for canceling the extra table. New Garden is an iconic restaurant in Rowland Heights and I was the first to write a Yelp review for them 19 years ago. The food is still delicious but I had to call out how bad we felt with our experiences there w/ the new servers these past few months. Came here for the jajangmyeon and will say it was a solid 7/10. Wish it had more earthy flavor but this place may have been founded by a chef that specialized in it (from the Swiss hotel?) I google translated an article they have posted outside the restaurant. Was pleasantly surprised by the mushu pork and eggplant. The eggplant was battered which is different than most garlic eggplant dishes I've had before. Once it soaked up the gravy and sauce, it tasted better and less dry. This place is very large inside, and tables are seated super close to each other (which makes sense to accommodate more people), but it was a bit snug! The lunch combos (ranging from $22-27) are always so filling and the perfect amount of food. Whether you're a jjamppong or jjajang lover, you can get your favorite noodles and also try another dish, such as Mongolian beef or kkanpung shrimp on the side with the lunch meal. The Mongolian beef is amazing, with the perfect blend of sweet and smoky flavors, which inspired me to write this review. My personal favorite jjampong- fire, with noodles cooked to perfection every time. Your meal is accompanied by an appetizing egg drop/ mushroom soup and the best jasmine tea. Instead of being drenched in sauce, the pork came dry-fried with a sweet and sour dipping sauce on the side. I really liked this approach--it lets you control how much sauce you use, and the addition of woodear mushrooms in the sauce was a nice touch. Service left a lot to be desired, but let's be real you don't come to a place like this expecting 5-star service. The truth is in the food. Jajangmyeon - Huge portion (def sharable) and super reasonably priced. The noodles were slippery, chewy, and perfect. Solid 8/10. Tangsuyuk - They definitely use potato starch here and it shows. Perfect chew, crisp coating, and the pork was moist (not dry at all). Easily a 9/10 - probably one of the better versions I've had. Overall, this spot is a strong contender and I'll definitely be back whether that be for takeout or getting my monthly fix of jajangmyeon and tangsuyuk. read more

Very Disappointing Experience The food itself was not even the main issue -- the server's attitude was. We ordered a vegetable jjampong and specifically asked for the seafood to be removed. Instead of simply clarifying our order, the server responded in a very rude and condescending way, saying things like, "You should have told me to leave the seafood out," and "The seafood flavor is already in the broth anyway, so what's the point of just removing the seafood?" Excuse me? People may choose not to eat seafood for religious, dietary, allergy-related, or personal reasons. It is not the server's place to question or criticize a customer's dietary choices. We ordered a vegetable jjampong in the first place. If there was any confusion about what we wanted, the appropriate response would have been to politely clarify the order -- not lecture us and make it sound like the mistake was entirely our fault. What was most disappointing was the complete lack of basic customer service and respect. Even if there was a misunderstanding, there is absolutely no reason to speak to customers in that manner. We drove here for an hour to enjoy dinner, not to be criticized for what we choose to eat. The attitude completely ruined the experience, and unfortunately, we will not be coming back. read more

Good old korean chinese place located inside the same plaza as Hanmi Bank and Harvard Optical. Parking can get super crowded on a busy day but I haven't been there in a while. We used to always get togo during covid times. Their prices have gone up and I think with the new management/ownership I feel like the prices are pretty high. We are such boring people so we usually get the same things at korean chinese places (Jjajangmyun, Jjamppong, sweet and sour pork and chili shrimp). One thing that kind of stopped me from returning was when we order the chili shrimp I feel like the shrimp is a bit dry. Sauce and everything else is good. Also unlike other chinese places this place gives your onions and choonjang and pickled danmooji as well. This place used to be our family gathering spot for any events like birthdays and graduations. They have a big room you can rent out or smaller rooms as well. 2.5 stars: I'm not a fan of low ratings but tonight's experience was a miss. My husband and I arrived at 8:15 pm Saturday evening. We were told by a waitress/hostess that last order was in a few minutes. Weird since they close at 9pm but that's fine, we already knew what to order before we even arrived there. We were seated and then the same lady came by in a few minutes and tells us that the kitchen had already turned off the stoves but turned it back because of us. She then proceeded to tell us to come earlier next time. Sorry for not living close by. It's a bit of a drive and we did what we could to get there as soon as possible. I'm not a fan of eating too late but cravings happen from time to time. Given the closing time, we were under the impression that kitchen would still be taking orders well before 8:30 pm. Had we known that they wouldn't be taking orders at that time, we would have left. We don't like inconveniencing others either. However we were still seated by the same person and given the option to order quickly so not sure why this lady kept saying things to (dare I say) guilt trip us. Definitely rubbed us the wrong way and I found myself trying to finish the food as quickly as I could to get out asap. The beef tang soo yook and a different waitress and server were the saving grace for the night and for the stars/tip alone. Best beef tang soo yook by far for sure! This place business is unethical. They tend to add $2-$4 for take outs. This happened multiple times. Make sure to ask for itemized receipts and check the price for take outs. If you check against their menu then you will realize they add couple dollars here and there. I asked them why this is and their response was it's because they haven't updated the take out menu but I checked against their full dining menu and my receipt still had higher price. No matter how good their food is I won't eat at the restaurant where they rip you off behind the scene. Maybe I should report their practice to Better Business Bureau. The danmuji (yellow radish) side dish was limp, but the raw onion side dish was fine, as it only involved cutting it as prep. They added these bells (like doorbell) to every table which made it very convenient to let her know we needed something. Okay, here was the ISSUE: When I went to pay the bill I circled the amount total and zero'd the tip part (I left MORE than 20% CASH on the table). As the lady handed me my receipt she noticed I left no tip on the transaction slip. She actually pointed this out to me and I apologetically told her that I left CASH on the table. I don't know if she didn't understand me but she then tried to give me a black tray...I guess to put money in. I awardly laughed and repeated, this time with hand gestures that I had already put the CASH tip on the table. I KID U NOT...she closed the register and checked our table (my wife later asked me why she came to the table as our party was leaving). This is the first time something like this has happened to us and I would have never come back if it happened to us the first time.
