Orange Chicken Combo with soy sauce

Me and 7 of my friends were looking for a cheap pre-flight meal and found this place. The reviews were praising the food and recommending diners to neglect the scary neighborhood and exterior. (We knew that those factors would only add to the authenticity and deliciousness of the meal.) The food and service was incredible and we got to know the hostess really well. And the ambiance is what you'd expect. By the end it was heartbreaking to tell her that we were flying back to New Jersey, the one thing preventing us from becoming regulars here. Hopefully we'll be back. I hope you are doing well, Lisa!

The location is definitely questionable and that was no surprise, so it's not affecting my review at all. However, saw this place on TikTok and since we were in downtown for a comedy show for the night, thought we would check it out. All the videos we saw indicated you had to walk through the kitchen to get in - not true. The food is decent, but absolutely not worth the wait. The place wasn't even half full and it wasn't traditional lunch or dinner hours so there was no crowd rush at all. Took unnecessarily long to come and take our order and then even unnecessarily longer for our food to be prepared. When it arrived, the temperatures varied so much. Some dishes were cold, others were piping hot - like excessively. While everything was "okay", we will definitely not return. It wasn't worth raising to their attention about the slowness or the varied food temperatures because no one seemed to care much about anything in the place. PS - if you're staying at one or the City Scape hotels (we were at the Moxy), don't walk. It seems like it's gonna be close but with a variety of construction and such, the walk was double what any map indicated.

I love the vibe. Came here with a hangover New Year's Day. Egg soup yummy. Orange chicken super tasty. I'd prefer white meat but I know that's a me thing. Egg roll wasn't rolled in a wrapper but rather coated and deep fried kinda like relleno. I liked it a lot. Light and crispy. White rice bland but they have table salt. Prices amazing for downtown area. Fast and friendly service. She didn't speak much English but that just makes it feel authentic. Obviously a family business; Toddler running around speaking Mandarin was adorable. Open on Monday. I'll be back.

Not recommended. I remember eating here decades ago and have a faded memory of a dive joint, but in an endearing way. I returned and was beyond disappointed. Everything was completely run down, food was mediocre at best, and I spent the entire meal staring at a drooping dusty fan blade on a ceiling fan that apparently wasn't working. Only redeeming quality for me was a nice server. I will not return.

Service was okay. Except they forgot to give me my credit card back and I had to ask for it. Food and cleanliness was abysmal. Orange chicken was dry, tough, lacking chicken and fried to a crispy. Cream cheese puffs we big and had less than a dime size amount of cream cheese. Egg roll was fantastic, surprisingly. Skip this place.

Been Around For a While New Garden Restaurant has been around for a long time, not sure how impasse this place by, until today. All I have tonsay is our food was really good as was the service. This little gem of a restaurant is family-owned and operated and their portions are generous, to say the least. Our food was served piping hot when it arrived and everything was really delicious. On this visit we shared the fried won tons, egg flower soup, egg rolls, chicken chow mein, pork fried rice, and seasme chicken. All our entrees were cooked to order, perfectly seasoned, and very tasty. If you're look for good Chinese food give this place a try, it doesn't disappoint.

First visit. I owe them a second try. Large menu, you must account for Cantonese style preparations. Need to go easier on the deep fryer. Enjoyable anyway.

Finally got to try this place after 2 attempts to check it out after a post from, a social media post. The first time we tried to dine in, on a Saturday, they were swamped with to go orders and said the wait for seating/food was at least 2 hour wait. Then tried again to just get food to go on a regular work day, only to find out they are closed between the hours of 3 P - 4:30 P (which is not posted on this yelp, but via a sign on the doors). So I arrived at 11:55 AM on Saturday to try and get in to place an order to go. They opened at 12:00 noon and I was second in person to place an order to go; however, it took 30 minutes for the order to be completed (which is understandable, since the just opened for business). This is an old establishment, which is in an old medium size place with several tables and sizes available. It is rather warm inside, which could be due to them just opening and starting AC, can't say...but it was rather warm inside with only ceiling fans running. I ordered the chicken chop suey and their infamous "big egg rolls," which are 2 count per order but only for $5.00. The chop suey is moderately sauced with mainly bean sprouts and good amount of protein. It's hard to describe the egg rolls which appears to be loosely packed mixture of mainly bean sprouts, some cabbage and meat (possibly chicken & pork) in regular egg roll skin, then it may be dipped in a egg/flour batter of some sort. They are big, but a little greasy likely due to the batter. But everything was seasoned ok. My order also included a cup of their egg drop soup and wonton chips. The place was being cared for by 5 gentlemen in the front of the house and they were all friendly & professional. This place was definitely was established many years ago and had that old Americanized Chinese vibe of the 50's-70's, which is not a bad thing.

My first visit was back in 2023 on June 10, the day my life changed for the better. They have a creative menu with seasonal changes that no other Thai restaurant can do. If you're looking for a pad thai, look somewhere else and please expand your horizons. I have tried almost every dish here and two things I will always order is their green mango salad and crab curry. I prefer mango over papaya, and it is the most perfect, refreshing salad I have ever had. The mango is always fresh, and the toasted coconut and peanuts on top pair so well with the lime and fish sauce. The stir-fried crab curry is extremely impressive with their generous portion of crab meat and fragrant turmeric curry. A few other dishes I highly recommend are their beef shank curry, seabass curry, and the stir-fried Tom Yum wide noodles. You really can't go wrong with any of the dishes here! I will be coming back to try the fried whole branzino. We've tried arai kodai, which is their chef's choice option and they personalize the meal for you based on your preferences and group size. Every dish they brought out was unique and so so good. For $55 per person, we thought this was great value considering how full we got and the variety of dishes we were able to try (including some that were off-menu). I also love that they promote eating family-style here and bring out all the dishes as they're ready - exactly how food is meant to be enjoyed. I really want to believe it was a fluke. Rushing to get food out quickly to mimic Thai street food is not desirable when quality is sacrificed and the customer is paying almost $40 for a plate.. I will say the food came out within minutes of ordering. Our server was nice and patient. I needed some extra time to look over the menu and he didn't rush us to order even though he was very busy. The food was so lackluster and it pains me to say that about a Thai restaurant. Every dish was just missing something, whether it was some spicy or citrus. Every dish was very one dimensional. The Boo Pad Pong Garee, or stir fried crab curry, was dry and underwhelming. It was missing spice for me. There were huge chunks of crab though. The Naem Khao Tawt, or crispy rice salad, may have been my favorite bite of the night. It had a great balance of textures and flavors. It was refreshing and helped cut through some of the dryness of the crab curry. I loved the cured pork sausage. Tom Yum Haeng Sen Yai, or the stir fried flat rice noodles with squid, wasn't terrible. I love flat rice noodles and they had the distinct char that you would get from wok cooking. Loved that. The flavors overall weren't bad. Just again, underwhelming and lacked a good balance of flavors. I would have liked more spice, citrus, and umami. We did not care for the creme brûlée duo. The hibiscus one was soooooo intensely sour that it was almost inedible. It was very bright though. The lemongrass one reminded me too much of a savory lemongrass soup that I couldn't enjoy it. Some of the spiel and verbiage that the team had was a little pretentious and awkward. I saw them "kindly" kicking out a table for sitting past their reservation time. I've never ever seen a restaurant do that before. Really not that bad but really not worth the $20-$40 price tags either. I'm open to coming back and trying other dishes. I really think I may have came on a bad night.

Amazing Restaurant!…read more All amazing people of Phoenix, if you have not gone to this phenomenal restaurant yet, you really need to. This is one convenient, high quality, extremely flavorful Chinese place that me and my husband visited today. It was just high quality all the way! When we arrived it was quiet. Superbly clean, neat and tidy. Cute decor and a nice inviting vibe. We were sat at a table and given our menus. Prices were really good. Especially when you get the quality of food that comes out of that kitchen. Our waitress was super-nice. Which is hard to find these days. She was so nice to everyone who came in. When we sat down, a lady who wasn't too sure about the place came in asking all kinds of questions. And she patiently answered each one as if she was a close family member. A homeless guy came in asking for water. She jumped right up to give him a HUGE cup of ice and water and was so kind to him. Then other patrons came in to order and pick up food and each one, regardless of age, ethnic makeup, what they were wearing, all were greeted so warmly. Huge smiles and a constant giving and warm attitude all throughout. We were treated just as good. And for us that is very rare. We ordered a lot of various things. A cold cucumber salad, a hot appetizer, a couple of main dishes. Then the absolute most amazing signature steak on the Chef's Speciality. WOW. The salad and appetizers came out first. Salad really cold and refreshing. Super crisp and cut nicely. Amazing flavor. Then the appetizers were super hot and fresh. Not oily. Bursting with flavor. Then the mains came. Everything cooked perfectly. The flavors of each dish just screaming at my taste buds. Enjoyed every bite. Then they brought out the steak for my husband. So juicy. So tender. And the sauce in the side just added to the flavor. We savored every bite. The quality and temperatures and flavors are off the chart. We could not finish all this bliss in one sitting, se we asked for boxes and containers. She gave us many to separate everything and a bag to haul it home in. Always asking if we needed anything else and being authentically polite. This place should be packed. You are missing out if you have not tried New Hong King Restaurant. Amazing service.
