I began working in the neighborhood about a year and a half ago and this is my favorite sit down spot for Chinese food. I've had many items from the menu and have never had anything that wasn't totally enjoyable. When you order fried rice, they will ask you if you want sprouts. I definitely like that. Also, you can ask them to make it spicy and it comes out with a little bit of spice, but still tasting of quality fried rice. I love that you park in back and enter through the kitchen. The kitchen staff is so nice and kind. After going there for awhile, they may surprise you with a free item occasionally, that you haven't ordered (ie. soup, some wontons). I like that they have combinations that you can pick 2 of the four items to go along with. One word of warning, the portions are large, so plan to take some home or come with a huge appetite. Also, if you are struggling between the small and large soup, their small is like a large everywhere else. Unlike the typical Chinese restaurant, they play 50s & 60s R&B. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but I definitely recommend you try it out! I forgot to mention, what really attracted me at the first visit was how fresh the vegetables tasted. The outside on the building just says Chinese food but your at the right place! I ordered a lot of food and they don't stuff your food in tiny boxes. I got ALOT of food and it's GOOD. I called ahead and it was a 20 min. Wait which isn't bad if you want your food fresh! I loved everything, definitely stopping here every time I'm by downtown Phoenix. I ordered the shrimp egg foo young the sauce was watery and the egg foo was falling apart not good at all I gave it away when I got back work and no chicken wings. I will never forget that day. It's like witnessing the birth of your first child. The food was so good that it truly is unexplainable. The food is like your favorite cereal consistently good every time. I love this place and everything about it. You know on black friday when people camp outside to get the good deals on tv's and stuff? Went to New Garden this past Saturday 1/26/19 for dinner. Waiter was Awesome kid! Ordered the Sweet N Sour Chicken, Chicken Chow Mein and Egg Roll, the food was BOMB!! Me and my family have been coming to New Garden for over 30 years. They are famous for their egg rolls. No matter how fancy a restraunt I go to they don't compare to the delicious fried rice they make not to mention the other delightful dishes. The atmosphere is humble and warm as the owners. This is a Dive one of the best; walking into the restaurant from the back parking lot puts you right in the kitchen where the woks are hard at work. Oh boy! My mouth watered as I made my way to my table. It's a family owed restaurant with locals and loyalty returning customers like myself !!! This restaurant is horrible!! Hole in the wall!! Filthy!! I ordered Mongolian Chicken and quite honestly, it was $10 and I was truly afraid to eat it. I enjoy eating in hole in the wall restaurants, but this one was past the point of no return. I will never recommend to anybody and will certainly not go back. Im about to tell you a secret....a BIG Secret...my husband and I have been on a quest for good chinese food since we met....it literally is a hobby. We recently moved out here and friend knew exactly what and where to take us. It started with a backseat ride in my own car because I didnt know the area and already my anxiety was strong because I was not in my own surroundings....we pass a place with a door and the words Chinese Food written on it. "This cant be it I thought." But it was....slowly I get out of the car with my friends and make my way through the door. My husband hesitates opening the door because it felt so uninviting. Finally we walked in and there were about 3 other families eating there. The place was no 5 stars in the environment but I was in it. Anything for the best chinese food. We sat down and my friends exchanged a chuckle to the gal that took our order. " Your back so soon!" We ordered family style and when the food came my chinese food dreams came true. It was all good. The rice, the Mongolian beef, the chow mein.....and the best part is the huge egg rolls....a fatty's (I mean foodie's dream.) This place has been around for a long time (at least 30 years). Apparently it used to be quite a popular hang out for certain circles back in the day, and many locals still regularly visit. The location is in a small nondescript building on the corner. You can enter through the front door or through the back door from the parking lot and walk through the kitchen (somewhat odd, but ok..). The dining area is a small wood panel lined room with only a single tiny half window. You are definitely not here to enjoy the atmosphere. The menu choice is a bit limited. I tried the egg flower soup (yummy), pork fried rice (good), mongolian beef (not bad), and shrimp chop suey (not bad). It was basic fast food chinese fare, good but not great. Also soft drinks only come in cans. The food certainly did not impress, nor did anything else really. On my own, I probably would not return here, however, my friend is one of those locals I referred to above so I'm sure I will be back. The owners are very friendly as well. read more

11/4/16 use to love the place, was the best Chinese food in town. I have gone there for over thirty years n hadn't been there in a while but was craving their food so decided to go and when I got there I noticed new workers taking my order and so I asked if they have changed owners and cooks, the person taking my order lied and said no the owner will be back in a month and that the food was still the same and the cooks were still the same people but as I walked threw the back, as they do allow that to get to your car, I noticed they weren't. Let me remind you I did order it as take out so I didn't get a chance to see or taste the food until I got home. I don't live very far from the place, when I got home the food was very soggy and very oily and nasty. the fried shrimp was very dry and very hard, hard as rocks. The egg roles were made from completely different ingredients then they use to make it with and was very terrible. I'm not a very picky eater but this food was just plain out nasty, never in my life have ever been so dipleased. I had to throw $30 worth of food away. I was scared to feed it to my family because I got so sick from eating what little I did end up eating. When I called and spoke to the person that took my order I was disrespected and lied to he ended up telling that they were in fact all knew cook and not even the same owners. I really edvise anyone who is plaining on eating there to not and please don't feed it to your childrens, as I got really sick from eating their food. and for my personal opinion it doest even diserve the one star. Went here for lunch and got the House Special Chicken. I also got a bowl of egg soup that was well flavored and great when mixed with hot sauce and a egg roll that was crispy and filling. The food was fast and the service was great. The House special chicken was excellent it had a crunch to it which I liked as well as a good blend of flavor in the chicken. I had a lot to take home too because of the large serving size which caught me off guard. I will most definitely be coming back for lunch or bringing friends and family here for dinner. read more
