I've been meaning to post a review for this place for quite sometime now. I've tried a lot of the Chinese places around the Newark area and New Ocean has won me over. I usually come to this place once a week and get the same dish everytime (sesame chicken) so I can't review for anything else.. but that sesame chicken is amazing! Been to this place a few times already so I thought it's time to give them a review. They're always consistent with the quality of the dishes they prepare. Their chicken wonton soup is my daughter's favorite. Their sweet and sour pork isn't heavily drenched in batter. Chicken fried rice and beef chow fun is perfectly seasoned. They also prepare your dish to your liking upon request. I always ask for my salt n pepper shrimp with the shell on and extra jalapeño pepper. Lastly, they will give you free fried rice or chow mien and egg rolls if your order is over $38. Now that's another reason to keep coming or to check out this place. read more

Everything is made in-house! I love the potstickers and the teriyaki chicken as well as the chow menu and fried rice. It's a small whole in the wall place with lots of take out orders but I enjoy dining in too. I highly recommend this hidden gem! read more

Awful service. Hours are until 830 pm. Arrived at 8p. Would not seat us. Waitress sa5ud, almost closing. I said your hours are until 830. She said only to go. Then don't advertise open until 830p. This restaurant needs to be reported. It's a small mom and pop shop. It should only be a fast food restaurant if they don't want in- restaurant diners. Bad service. Will not return. read more

This is the best Chinese food in Newark! Ignore the bad reviews and give this place a try. Everyone has an off day, and not all of us have the patience and understanding. I've been getting take-out from this place since 2006; even with the change in management, the food is still good. I didn't give five stars because of the asparagus chicken (or dishes) - why do we get the ends of the asparagus and not the tips?? Anyway, I no longer order asparagus dishes for that reason. Ordered vegetable chow fun and veggie egg rolls for pick up. Order was wrong and I received chow mein instead which isn't the end of the world except for the chow mein was dry and flavorless. The egg rolls were nice and crispy and good though. Would probably give them another try and hope for my chow fun. read more

I was really unhappy with the way I was treated I called in for a phone order and she was really disrespectful and didn't have good costumer service. I was putting my order in and I asked her about the Mushu chicken if it came in a tortilla looking wrap. She said no I said if she can describe the mushu chicken she then said I don't understand what do you want. I said I would just like to know what is inside she then said are you going to order or what I said yes and she said hurry I am busy what else do you want hurry very busy. I then just told her you know what I'm going to cancel my order and call someone who will have better costumer service. She was very rude and I will be sure to not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Consumer service is very important to Me. read more

Service was slow... We were the only customers in the restaurant. We waited 5-6 minutes before getting menus. Lady was on her cell phone while she brought us menus. Warning! Don't drink the hot tea! When I poured it into my tea cup, the tea was pale yellow colored, with no actual tea residue, which is strange. The tea tasted like soapy hot water! Don't drink it! Ordered: crab rangoons 6 pieces for $5.95, not good. Too much breading and the insides, which supposed to taste like cream cheese and crab just tasted more like oily mush. Kung Pao Chicken, $7.75, not good. Chicken meat was rubbery and under seasoned. Lots of veggies, which was okay, but once again... Under seasoned. Combination fried rice, $5.75. Pretty good, but its hard to mess up fried rice at any Chinese restaurant. Honey Walnut Prawns, $9.95, pretty good. Shrimps came out crispy. Generous portion size for the price. Bill came out to $30.00 for two people. The hostess lady also began clipping her fingernails at the register, next to our table, while we were eating. In my opinion, that's not something you should be doing at a restaurant, especially not when customers are around and eating their food. Kinda gross don't you think? I can't give it less then a 1 star. Service at the worst! Was told to sit at a dirty table. A lady started taking my order walked away leaving the order tab on the dirty table tried to help her write our order and she ripes it says she don't speak english. Redoes the order yells at my daughter to not write in the paper she left on the dirty table takes our order came out piece by piece. When she gives us the bill she throws it On our table I refuse to leave this lady a tip. So as I'm walking out she says very loudly thank you lady for no tip. I simple reply your welcome and thank you for poor services. Our table was never cleaned this is the worst place. Food wasn't even good! Check out other restaurant in town cuz service sucks here!!! I have to say this is a hole in the wall. Annie is the owner and she can sound a little loud and mean but I think its just her English :) You have to try the Walnut Prawns. The food is amazing. The food is fresh and portions are pretty big. Price is just right as well. We ordered Fried Bananas for desert and she said she had to check to see if she had any bananas left and all of a sudden we saw her drive by the window on a bicycle with a little basket on the front. 10 minutes later she came back with bananas in the basket. She rode her bike down the street the the local super market and got us bananas. :) Great place. We live out of town but still drive there just to eat. read more

I'm not quite sure why there's good reviews on this place... I believed all of you & after living down the street for many years..I finally went for my very 1st time.... IT WAS AWFUL! The Kung-Pao was old & stale, smelled like urine, with no spicy/heat whatsoever.., I had oily soup & the chow-mein cooked in old used oil/grease that tasted fishy!! I only ate a little & then I had a terrible stomach ache, so I called them. The Girl There got all mad and was extremely rude to me about it. She said "So you eat all food & now you want money back?" Seriously?? I told her that and I was on my way back with her nasty food. She said NOTHING to me upon my return... So after my money was returned, I let her know my true feelings on her nasty, old, stale, crap-food and her awful Customer Service skills! TERRIBLE, OLD FISHY TASTING GREASE & RUDENESS to boot! First time here and it was delicious. Were relocating to Newark from San Diego and are looking for good places to eat. Came across this place on here and decided to try it because it had good ratings. We had the egg drop soup, crab ragoon, chicken chow mein, and szechuan chicken. It was all very very tasty. Pretty big portions, sort of family style. It was very clean inside and our food was done pretty fast. Overall love this place and will be coming more often since our new apartment is a few blocks away. Oh almost forgot they have a fish tank inside and there's 1 fish that was laying on it's side on the floor, we thought it was dead, but it wasn't!!! LOL!! Apparently it does that until its feeding time. We thought that was hilarious. read more

I've lived in Fremont for about four years now and was convinced there was no real good Chinese restaurant around here until tonight. After reading the reviews of New Ocean, I decided to try it. WONDERFUL FOOD! I got take out, was ready within 15 minutes. The walnut prawns are amAZing, and their egg rolls are awesome! The hot and sour soup wasn't great, so thats the reason for four stars vs five. Huge portions, modest prices. I'll definitely be going back and bringing friends along! :) read more

It's been a challenge finding a good Chinese restaurant since we've moved from Hawaii. My family is a big proponent of the beef friend rice, honey walnut prawns (to die for), and the beef pan fried noodle, (so ono). I've placed orders to go and for delivery, both are very speedy and quality and taste of food consistent. The atmosphere is cozy and quaint; my family prefers to eat at home. Good food but the service kinda sucks. My brother and I ordered to go over the phone.we ordered a chicken chow mien and shrimp fried rice. I came in to pick up and she asked what I ordered. I told her chicken chow mien and shrimp fried rice. She said she had a chicken chow mien and a chicken fried rice. Took 1.5 hours for a $45 order to be delivered. When the order got here the food was cold. In addition, the driver added himself a tip and signed the receipt. Yeah, that's fraud buddy. Not to mention the food wasn't very good. read more

Love the salt and pepper fish fillet in this place! Literally the only thing I order and it's every other day :) Be careful when ordering To-Go, though, because if you pick it up late and don't call them, they throw away the food. Had it happen to me once. The lady that answers the phone can be a bit rude and short but not too bad. Delivery comes at a timely manner so that's a another plus. The sweet & sour chicken is good too. Not a fan of the orange chicken...had too much of the thick batter. Heard the black bean chicken was great. Other than the food being served a bit on the cold side, the place has very good chinese food and good plate sizes. My girlfriend and I liked the kung pao chicken and the fried bananas for dessert. The price is good for the area and the employees are friendly. read more

As i was wondering what to eat, i though of Chinese! Well living in Fremont, Chinese isnt really all that good. So as my boyfriend and i were searching for a place to eat, we came across New Ocean. Too bad that it was closing time, she said that it has been slow all day so thats why they were closing earlier than normal. He's been here before but i havent so it took a second to order. Their prices are a little high, but the portions make up for it!! We placed a big order, and they tossed in free foiled wrapped chicken.. which we found wasnt so pleasant. small restaurant with great tasing food. you will not see too much people eating inside as majority of their customers get their food to go. i would recommend their walnut prawns, as well as their Mongolian beef and their chow mein.
