Mediocre Chinese food at centre of Toronto's Chinatown. Surprisingly busy, so I had high expectations. But im Chinese, and this was not to my standards. The infamous dry stir fry beef with flat noodles was just meh. Chinese pot soup was good. But all utensils and plates were sticky and gross. Felt very uncomfortable using it and i even asked for them to be switched out and they came back the same. Staff wasn't very attentive as well.

I decided to give it 3 stars not because of their food. tbh, the food was good, especially for Cantonese food, for example, the fried rice noodle was very tasty and full of wok hai. The service was also good, the waitress was nice and polite. so...what was exactly the problem? Well, it's a big restaurant and it had lots of people. It was already summer and it was really hot and uncomfortable inside. I was sweating and feeling dizzy after having sat for half an hour. I should've asked the waitress to turn on the air conditioner; however, it was our first time being there and I was worried about it was not a thing the waitress can decide and that we'll make her embarrassed. I decided not to do that and try to have lunch as fast as possible. I think I'll still go there in the future because it's pretty authentic. I'll update my review next time.

It's pretty good. Came here for dinner on a weekday and it was pretty busy. Ordered the Lemon Chicken (15) and Stir Fried String Beans w/ Minced Pork (12). The lemon chicken sauce was really heavy so it was filling and taste wise it was decent. The String Beans were really good, not that spicy and a good amount of that salty minced pork. They have a pretty extensive but standard menu of HK restaurant dishes so lots of selection of everyone. 10% off with cash!

I thought the food at New Sky was mid and honestly pretty basic in terms of the menu relative to the more authentic spots in the area. We started off with the chicken corn soup which was very good, but then the rest of the dishes (crispy ginger beef, sweet and sour chicken, chicken fried rice, salt and pepper shrimp, black bean beef sizzler) were all pretty average and nothing really stood out to me as something I'd come back for. Even though the food was just fine I doubt I'll come back here as there are some way better options in the area.

Cash only lunch special is their specialty.

New Sky is one of the legacy Chinese restaurants in downtown Chinatown that has a good combination of good food, decent prices, and best of all for me, great lunch specials! What is most unique about New Sky, is that it has a Peruvian influence with obviously someone from Peru involved in the restaurant's direction. There is even a separate menu, although it is in Spanish. I tried ordering something from the Peru menu but had a difficult time figuring out what to try and the Chinese server wasn't much help. I ended up ordering a dish that was a bit much for one person, and was meant to be part of a larger selection of dishes to be shared so I was disappointed. I'm not sure if there is a type of "lunch special" from the Peru menu. Their Chinese lunch specials are excellent! I love how they come with a choice of 3 different soups, with my fave being the egg drop soup with nice chunks of fresh mushrooms thrown in. The spring rolls are fantastic here as well. Super hot, right from the deep fryer, I could barely hold them sometimes and had to use a napkin to keep from burning my fingers. The taste of fabulous! The lunch specials are often so good, I end up devouring every little bit and then go home and can't really move well and want to take a nap. The beef dishes are incredible. These are amazing deals for just over $10. With tip I usually spend $15 - cash only.

My cousin and I were looking for some authentic Chinese food and if you're looking for big portions and a classic Chinese restaurant vibe (with kind servers), then this is definitely a place to swing by. Although the vibe was great, the wait for the food was a little long (took around 35-40 minutes after ordering) and they mixed up our fried rice dish with a noodle one. To be fair, they fully admitted it was their mixup and asked if that was okay, and we said it was. Although the char siu didn't seem too fresh, the chow mein was pretty big (definitely had to grab a takeout box for the leftovers), it was also crispy and abundant in toppings. One thing I did love was the little fortune cookies at the end! Haven't had those in a long time! All in all it was nice restaurant to experience and I noticed servers would take time to greet and joke with the regulars.

We ordered delivery lunch from New Sky restaurant through Doordash. We ordered some dim sum, beef brisket and Shanghai style noodle. The dim sum were good and the beef brisket was great. But the Shanghai style noodle were not that great. The noodle were doughy and not that great to eat.

On Spadina in Toronto, one can find some of the greatest foods in Chinatown. One night when my family and I were fully moved into our new condo by the lake, we celebrated with New Sky Restaurant, and what a celebration it was! From stellar service, to spectacular eats, New Sky did not fail to impress me at all! Already entering the restaurant, we could sense the ambiance of satisfaction as customers devoured their foods of Chinese delicacies. Despite how crowded it was, service had a table cleaned and ready for us within minutes. We took our seats, and like every standard restaurant, we were given hot tea and the menus to choose our dinner for the night. Once we had ordered our food and settled - we waited for perhaps 5-10 minutes when the waiter served us some hot soup, on the house. Have this soup with some red vinegar and/or pepper, and you'll enjoy this pleasant starter! And soon enough, with perfect timing for a hungry family, the food came out. The whole meal was served with white rice for the four of us as well: Stir Fried Vegetable in Tofu Sauce - a very pleasant dish Steamed Green Bass in Soy Sauce - it was prepared perfectly and the fish was extremely flaky (so it was good!) Deep Fried Soft Shell Crab in Spicy Salt - for a non-spicy lover like myself, this dish could only be eaten to an extent. However, it was a very delicious dish for the rest of the family, and for myself as well (up to my spicy limit!) Mussels in Black Bean Sauce - This dish was extremely tasty and savoury. The mussels were prepared in a way that it wasn't too chewy and the sauce was quite succulent. Definitely a recommendation! To end the night, we had some dessert, on the house - a nice bowl of Red Bean Soup for each of us to wash down our food. Overall, New Sky Restaurant was a great change from our usual Wah Sing on Baldwin (see my post about Wah Sing on Foodie Utopia!) and I think it'll definitely be a new "usual" for the family! Having been to the original El Inka location in Burlington, we gave their newer location in…read moredowntown Toronto a visit as we had a great experience at the Burlington location. This location was a lot busier and more packed compared to its suburban sister restaurant, and it was for a good reason - the food and service here were outstanding. Everything was delicious, and portion sizes were quite big. Reservation is recommended, especially on weekends, since they can get super busy. The place had an energetic ambiance as all the servers seemed to be always on the go, yet they were able to maintain an organized flow and excellent & friendly service. The outside patio was half covered, half wasn't. The inside had a somewhat open-concept kitchen. We were able to customize some of our orders to make everything non-spicy, and also got to customize the side sautéed vegetables to be just boiled / plain vegetables without the sauce (I remember them being very salty the first time we got them in the Burlington location) - so bonus points for that. Soon we could see why this place was always packed: great authentic Peruvian food (hard to come by in downtown with all the fusion twists), nice and attentive service, and the dishes came out relatively fast. Everything that we ordered was satisfyingly tasty: 1) Quatro Causas (Yukon gold mashed potato "cubes" topped with tuna, shrimps, octopus, aji amarillo, and lime juice) - Causa is a very classic cold Peruvian layered potato dish made with seasoned mashed yellow potatoes, yellow pepper paste, and a savory filling. Here at El Inka, they took a creative spin to the traditional causas by making them into 4 small cubes, each one topped with a different protein filling and sauce. Very pretty to eat. 2) Pulpo a la Parrilla (grilled octopus with asparagus, purple potatoes, radish, choclo, aji panca, chimichurri, and huancaina) - One of my favourite appetizer dishes here. I could taste the char / grill taste of the octopus - very tender without being rubbery, and I loved everything that it came with (the asparagus, purple potatoes, radish, and choclo). The huancaina (creamy, spicy yellow cheese sauce from Peru) gave it a bit of a kick, but it wasn't overly spicy. 3) Choros a la Chalaca (6 New Zealand mussels with red onion, tomatoes, cilantro, choclo, aji amarillo, and lime juice) - These were alright - the veggie toppings gave the mussels a nice and refreshing taste. 4) Ensalada El Inka (spring mix leafy greens, cucumber, tomato slices, red onion, avocado, and hemp seeds with avocado dressing) - Simple and a good accompaniment to all the other dishes. 5) Pescado Ceviche (tilapia, lime juice, cilantro, red onion, sweet potato, choclo) - Out of all the ceviche varieties out there, I like Peruvian-style ceviche the best because it always comes with sweet potato and choclo. Portion size of all the ceviches here was big - good for sharing. 6) Vegano Ceviche (broccoli, cauliflower, red onion, cucumber, red peppers, edamame, avocado, sweet potato, choclo) - I ordered this one because I was curious (never encountered a "vegan" ceviche before), and I just wanted extra broccoli and cauliflower. But there was more avocado here than the broccoli and cauliflower (only a few pieces). They must've used a whole avocado, sliced. The sweet potato that it came with added a nice sweetness contrast to the vinegar-y / more acidic rest of the dish. 7) Arroz Con Mariscos (Peruvian-style paella with octopus, calamari, shrimps, mussels, green peas, carrots, red onion, cilantro, aji amarillo) - This was favourite main dish at El Inka. Out of all the "Arroz Con Mariscos" dishes that I've tried at numerous Latin American restaurants everywhere, this was 'up there'. The rice was flavourful, the sauce was perfect (in amount and taste), and all the seafood varieties blended well together with the rice, creating a concoction of full deliciousness in your mouth. 8) Side Sautéed Vegetables - We were able to request customization of this to be without the sauce (just plain boiled or sautéed), yet they were able to make them still somewhat flavourful and still tasted fresh & crisp. This quickly became my favourite side dish. I liked that almost every dish came with some form of vegetables (even if they were just a bit of leafy greens, diced tomatoes / bell peppers, or red onion), and that choclo (Peruvian large-kernel corn) was present in every dish.

The sweet potatoes surprisingly worked well though) - Parihuela (not as well-rounded as a French bouillabaisse, but still delicious with a variety of seafood) - Chicha Morada (delicious purple corn drink) Portions were pretty large, so I'd recommend ordering family style to try a few different dishes. Food was not a 5/5 for me, but service was above and beyond. Upon arrival, we had given the staff a cake to serve after our meal for a friend's birthday. We had the candles in our bag, and were planning on pulling them out when we were done our entrees. The owner, assuming that we hadn't brought our own candles, went out and bought candles for the cake during our meal. We were stunned when we found out! They then portioned out the cake perfectly after we sang happy birthday. We also didn't realise we had stayed 30 minutes past their 9pm closing time, and they never nudged us to leave.
