We are now regulars there and the Nachos compuestas are to die for. The fajita beef melts in your mouth. Their House Margaritas are in my opinion fantastic. The empanadas were crispy on the outside with a pillowy interior. Delicious! The quesabirrias were equally delicious- meaty, cheesy, and the consommé took them over the top. We were actually on our way to another well known Mexican restaurant and while waiting at the traffic light Nicha's Comida Mexican restaurant was to our right. My husband suggested we ought to try, so we did. Wow, it was a true diamond in the ruff find! Jimmy was so welcoming and friendly. He brought us a fresh chips and salsa while we reviewed the menu. Oh my goodness, the chips were hot, fresh and perfectly seasoned. The salsa was some of the BEST I've tasted. I'm not one for spicy foods, but this was an exception. Since we were new to the establishment Jimmy brought us a cup of their tortilla soup. It was a flavorful broth with fresh vegetables like tomatoes, bell peppers onions, and tortilla strips on the side. I could have eaten a giant bowl of it. I'm glad the tortilla strips were on the side because IMHO it didn't need it. We decided to order their carnitas plates. The pork carnitas were grilled, tender and flavorful. Charro beans were very tasty and so was the Mexican rice. Our dish also contained a serving of guacamole and pico digallo. Again, DELICIOUS! We were so full, but had to try one of their desserts to get a full course experience. We ordered their churros with vanilla ice cream and drizzled with cajete. Wow, the churros were hot and fresh, vanilla bean ice cream and the cajete drizzle, which is similar to caramel but less sweet. It was a perfect combination. The restaurant is large with various spaces for dining inside and out. It's very clean, including their bathrooms! We will definitely be coming back. Nichas Comida is one of my top recommendations for good Mexican food. Service has always been great at all locations. We started our dinner tonight with the bean and cheese nachos as an appetizer & they were exceptionally tasty. This establishment has been my go-to spot for a delicious dine-in bowl of tortilla soup. I typically order the Moms Specialty tortilla soup combo, which features tortilla soup accompanied by a chicken flauta and chicken taco. Their piña colada drink is, in my opinion, one of the best ones in town. Today's dinner was at the West Ave location, which provides customers with the option of indoor or outdoor seating. We love this place, but quit going because they decided to have karaoke on the patio. About six of us were going every Wednesday after pickleball. We enjoy the margaritas and all the great food. We bring our dog so we've braved the patio even when it was cold. But we like to talk, so karaoke totally changed the atmosphere for us. People who like that should go. We've moved on. read more

It took about 5 minutes or longer for our server to come ask us for our drink order. We had complimentary chips and salsa both times and the salsa is quite good. The chips were warm the first time and the second they were broken into tiny pieces. We asked for a refill and were generously given one. The food is basic Tex-Mex and at a pretty good price point compared to other similar restaurants. The quality was good - fresh vegetables, ample servings, hot and tasty food. I know there are people that swear by Nicha's, so we decided to stop in for happy hour while in the area. We sat at the bar and the bartender was very attentive and quick. We tried the happy hour house margarita and trio sampler. The margarita was fine, but came in a small portion even for $5. The trio sampler came out and it looked like all straight frozen foods thrown in the fryer. I tried the jalapeño popper and it was still ice cold in the middle. Our bartender quickly let the kitchen know and they brought out new ones, but they still weren't very good. The bartender went to get him some soup and it was heaping with ingredients - I couldn't tell if it was tortilla soup. If you love menudo and are in San Antonio, you have got to try this establishment. I was in SA for Fiesta last weekend and we went Sunday. They have a full blown breakfast buffet with just about everything you could ask for to include menudo and fideo, besides every other breakfast item you could think of. Their menudo was the best I have eater in a long time. I usually end up taking left overs home for my breakfast the next day, but there was not a drop left. Makes me want to move there. The staff are so sweet and helpful. The manager comes and checks on every table. Great indoor environment and a very spacious outdoor area. Definitely deserve more than 5 stars! read more

I was one of the first persons there and the food was not even near warm. Chicken was cold and the rice was not fully cooked and the other items were not warm either. The only good thing I liked was the omelette station. The sad part is I was by myself and seemed like the Server really didn't care. I had to keep asking for her. She never came to my table not once. I would have to stop her. I said are there charges for chips she said no then she bring me chips. I had to ask for the tortillas she didn't even ask me if I wanted tortillas she just assumed I guess I didn't but maybe because I was by myself and she thought I would not tip well. I always tip well no matter what but I will never go there again. The food quality was not good at all. I've had better food even at home sorry but that's a guy's truth.
