Based on reviews I had very high hopes for an authentic Greek restaurant, but unfortunately it's more of a diner that serves Greek food, and only mediocre Greek food at that. We had lots to sample from: quinoa falafel (good), vegetarian grape leaves (winner of the night), stuffed mushrooms (tepid but tasty), filet of sole (industrial and cafeteria-like with lots of paprika), lemon potatoes (boiled Yukon gold with corn starchy lemon sauce spooned on top) and a good custard dessert not on the menu. Wait staff was great, if rushing. If you're looking for OK- food served very quickly to accommodate turnover (gotta hand it to them-- it's very popular), this is your place. Nick's Bistro is the clear winner for Greek food in the neighborhood. If I'm craving lamb chops, this is the place I go... they're perfectly cooked and full of flavor. A friend and I stopped by Nick's Bistro for an early dinner. They are located in the heart of Metropolitan Avenue. We made reservation as well since we were visiting on a Friday evening. However, I did see a lot of folks trying to get a table without reservation and it did not seem to be an issue. For appetizers we had falafels and calamari. Oh my, their falafels were super flavorful, warm and just overall delicious. I too enjoy their crunchy yet freshly cooked calamari. For drinks we had Greek wine Assyrtiko; it's on the sweet side but hit the stop just right. My friend had green beer. For entree, I had the chicken kabab with salad. It was the most delicious and filling meal I had in a while. The chicken was super flavored with not so much oil in it. I thought it was a nice touch to have it with salad! The butternut squash soup of the day is fantastic it has a lot of natural sweetness and flavor 9/10 it was about $8 for a pint on Uber eats Eggplant sandwich at $16 is a 9/10 because of the soft fresh bread, grilled veggies, and good amount of eggplant. Galaktoboureko is an 8/10 for delivery. This usually needs to be eaten right out the kitchen so if you get a chance, get it in the restaurant. We started with Pikilia or the Greek style spreads with pita. We picked eggplant, cucumber yogurt and hummus. We both liked the eggplant very much. Then we decided to share the Bronzino, the charcoal broiled style. We had the fish with sautéed string beans and grilled vegetables. The Bronzino was wow! One of the best I had! They had a little sauce on top of the Bronzino, very little, almost like a small spread. That sauce with the fish was exquisite! I would come back for the fish. The way it was prepared also made a difference because if it were just broiled in the oven, it would come out like the one I prepared at home. I'm not a chef but I know how to broil the fish ha! Pema was our waiter and he recommended it. After all, we didn't know what to order because everything looked great. Perfect recommendation! The restaurant is lovely with both inside and outside seating. The outside seating looks like all Greek restaurants you go to with a garden style and plenty of flowers. Service is alright but food comes out pretty fast. I came here with two girlfriends for lunch and we shared the fried calamari ($16) as our appetizer. The fried calamari was well seasoned and cooked perfectly. My friends both ordered hot pressed sandwiches while I ordered the Porcini Glaze Burger ($19.75) with French fries as my side. My porcini burger was very savory and cooked to my desired preference which was nice. The mushrooms made it taste extra meaty along with the glaze and the onions added some sweetness to the burger. The homemade French fries are an absolute must -- I just wished my overall dish had more sauce. Let me start off by saying our waiter Diego was amazing and super helpful during our entire dinner! It hard to have such a friendly and knowledgeable waiter these days! So me and my fiancé decided to check out this spot since it had so many good reviews and let me tell you we were not disappointed! She started off with a pumpkin spinach cream soup which we ended up sharing, the soup was very good but was a bit salty for me, it also came with little oyster crackers for added taste. I got the chicken souvlaki platter which had amazingly fresh and tasty chunks of chicken as well as one of the best lemon potatoes I ever had!!! This combination was paired so perfectly and very well seasoned! The dish also came with a small side salad which was good as well. Our whole experience was wonderful and Diego was beyond helpful and nice. He also gave us some future suggestions which we will definitely come back to try them out! I would highly recommend this place and Diego as your waiter if possible! The interior is very nicely designed with a bar in the back overlooking the entire place. My friend wanted a Mediterranean restaurant so of course I came to Yelp & found Nick's Bistro. We were seated immediately & the restaurant is small, so I can imagine on a weekend it's probably a wait to be seated. For our starters we had the Greek Style Mussels which is sautéed in a red feta sauce & it was good. I really liked that there was enough sauce to have with each mussel. My friend had the octopus salad & also really enjoyed it. For entree's I had the Salmon on a bed of Greek salad & my friend had the Branzino with lemon potatoes. My Salmon was cooked well & salad was good. I tried my friend's Branzino & it was really good & he enjoyed it as well. They didn't have some of the ingredients for one of their specialty drinks they had on the menu, so I just ended up getting something else to drink, which was fine. Our waiter name was Diego. He was truly amazing, and made the whole experience better. He was very happy to be there, he started working there during the Pandemic and stated it's been a blessing working there. He was very attentive and didn't make us wait for anything. I started off with a pumpkin spinach soup, the soup was a little salty but still delicious. For my entrée I got the mixed platter. I chose chicken souvlaki and shrimp. The chicken was amazing, no dry spot in it. It was cooked well and juicy. The shrimp was no different. I ordered with a side of vegetables. It was delicioussss. Dined here again recently and wasn't at all happy with the seating arrangements. It was a busy day here, I get it, but I had a reservation for 3 people for outdoor seating and when we arrived we were seated at one small table with chairs placed at 3 ends. It was so uncomfortable and tight. I had zero elbow room and no place to put my tote bag. Had to place it on top of the table where space was already limited. A 2nd table and a 4th chair could've been added for comfortability, but only parties of 4 were given 2 tables and 4 chairs..ridiculous! To make things worst, our table wasn't being cleared in a timely fashion and plates and glasses were just accumulating and piling up on top of each other at this tiny table making me so annoyed. I was so ready to go and lost my appetite after my Saganaki appetizer which was the highlight of the meal, because our entrees were bland and distasteful, with the exception of the Salmon my Dad ordered. I later noticed a party of 2 ppl seated at a table for "4" and thats when I finalized my decision that this establishment just wasn't worthy of another visit. Nicks is some of the best Greek food I have ever had! The hummus is good, and it comes with very good pita that is warm and well flavored. The grilled octopus comes with chickpeas and onions in a balsamic olive oil sauce that is perfectly balanced. The octopus is also grilled perfectly. The fillet of salmon is a generous portion and also grilled perfectly, as are the grilled vegetables. The baklava is so nutty you have to cut it with a knife and the flavor is a perfect balance of nuts and honey. The outdoor seating area is very Covid friendly! They have plastic dividers between each tables, windows to open if you choose, and fans to circulate the air with an awning for shade. One of the best restaurants in Forest Hills! In the mood for local Greek food I came across Nick's Bistro. The first time I placed an order for a Chicken Souvlaki Sandwich, Mixed Platter (Lemon Potatoes, Chicken Souvlaki, Chicken Gyro, White Pita), Spanakopita, and a Side of Tzatziki. The food was really delicious but I didn't care for the gyro meat because texturally it threw me off. It wasn't what I was expecting. I received shaved pieces of meat. I really fell in love with the food here that I placed another order the following day. The second time I ordered the Mixed Platter (Fries, Lamb Gyro, Grilled Chicken, White Pita), Spanakopita, and a Chicken Souvlaki Sandwich. Relatively the same order but the fries were better than the lemon potatoes and they give you a decent portion of it. Both my orders came with a complimentary side salad that included lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, and balsamic dressing. Unfortunately, it didn't have feta cheese or olives. The feta would've been the perfect touch. I was glad that I ordered a extra side of tzatziki because it was unbelievably tasty. If you love spanakopita please be sure to order you some. As an elder millenial Greek-American, I remember Astoria being the place to go for great, authentic Greek cuisine when I was a kid. These days there's been a diaspora of the Greek-American community across Queens more broadly, and into Nassau too. So when I was looking to plan my dad's 70th birthday party, I had a wide swath of options to choose from. That swath was limited a bit by a relatively modest budget, but I was determined to make it as spectacular an event as I could, so I researched options and called restaurants for weeks before settling on Nick's Bistro, which seemed like a great fit based on the reviews, photos, and very thoughtful communications I had with the manager, Mario. I provided a set of 6 entree selections for the menu in addition to appetizers, and of course, like a good Greek he encouraged me to choose even more options to offer! (I stuck with my six though, and based on the feedback I got from my family, my picks were all great ones!) I told him I'd be getting a custom balloon decoration and that I'd bring a cake too, and he was agreeable to all of that. Then last weekend, it all came together better than I could have hoped for. Nick's Bistro has a gorgeous outdoor seating area that I was hoping to make use of for the party, so that was the space I specified in my reservation. The weather was iffy, so Mario gave me a call to confirm the day before, and in the morning I held to the outdoor seating plan. But 12 hours later, the forecast was for heavy rain, so I sent a frantic text just before midnight asking if we could switch to indoor seating; there was a prompt response reassuring me that it wasn't a problem. I was relieved to have that flexibility when I awoke the next morning to pouring rain! (That preamble is all to let you all know that Nick's Bistro is fantastic for holding events, and they'll work with you up to the last minute to make sure everything goes smoothly.) Now for the experience itself! While I covered most of that in the TLDR version. but some additional details to add here. Diego was assigned as the server overseeing our party, and he did an excellent job of coordinating the rest of the staff to meet my family's MANY requests, while also juggling the needs and orders of other patrons dining in the sidewalk seating area. Mario also introduced me to Tom, who was also involved in making sure everything ran smoothly, and who led the party in singing "Happy birthday" to my dad with an impressive baritone! (A few people in my party actually asked me if I'd hired someone to sing, he was so good!) I said this in my initial review, and I'll say it again - if you're looking for a great Greek-American restaurant in New York city, whatever the occasion, casual or more festive, you'll be as happy as I was if you go with Nick's bistro. read more

Was here a little while ago. Will definitely go back because the food was great. However, I was there with people I hadn't seen in a long time. We were one of a few tables, the quietest one at that, very respectful in every way, and they were about an hour and a half from closing. We were still picking at our entrees and chatting. With no explanation or offer for dessert, they dropped our check on the table. Take the hint I guess? We were obviously taken back and upset. This is a very pleasant and welcoming atmosphere to walk into yesterday for lunch. I noticed there was extensive outside seating all dolled up with pretty flower garlands, however I'm not big on outdoor dining and chose a quiet table in the corner facing the street to people-watch. One of the aspects of Nick's that I enjoy is the staff all work in tandem---yes you will have a "main" server as your point person, so-to-speak, however don't be afraid to ask other staff for things you need. They in turn will also take the initiative to help you out as well, clear plates, etc. I had the chicken souvlaki platter (pictured) with extra tzatziki sauce, and a Pepsi--the chicken was a bit drier than I would have liked, but that's also an easy slip when grilling large chunks and the chef may be concerned about under-cooking. The small side salad was a delight and the dressing was yummy...but the star of the meal were the lemon potatoes. OMG. Perfectly cooked, wonderful flavor, and plenty of it. Small pita triangles accompanied the dish and I don't know if the pita is homemade or not, but I could have nibbled on them all day--they were *that* good. I would return and try the platter again, this time with pork. Only one complaint---and it's not even really a "complaint"---it would have been nice if the waiter knew the Wi-Fi password for guests (he wasn't sure and the one he suggested I try was incorrect). Located on Metropolitan Ave in Forest Hills, Nick's Bistro came handy when we stopped in at 5. Any later and we would've been fuccked because the crowds started coming in about 5:30ish. I'm not sure if you have to show vaccination proof, but hubs and I decided to do outside just because the day was so pleasant without the humidity. Their outside seating structure is actually Nick's best part I feel because tables were each partitioned, natural flowers jazz up the perimeter and artificial florals decorate the 'ceiling' part of the structure with those rustic twisty branches. Service was a bit slow even when there wasn't a rush, but the guys were super pleasant. I'm extremely picky with dressings/vinaigrette as I always question if they're made with any form of mustard, but theirs was a simple one with light seasonings which gave our small Greek salad a kick. Hubs' "deconstructed" Lamb Gyro wasn't what he expected, but said it was good and the (2) $19.75 Broiled Tilapia filets with my choice of Zucchini and Squash veggies were filling. Dined at Nick's for the first time recently and went back within 2 weeks! The first time it was a little warmer outside so there was a wait for a table, even with a reservation. The inside dining area is VERY small, opt for outdoors. Each table has a heater above so you'll be nice and warm! The manger/ host is very friendly and sociable I didn't really like the cocktails. Stick to wine. The seafood salad is a must! Stuffed mushrooms were very good. We tried a bunch of different entrees, the shrimp saganoki was very tasty (small portion, needed rice or pita with it), the large branzini was good too, enough for 2 ppl.
