Been here several times in the past three years and enjoyed each time. Finally getting around to writing a review after our last visit on Mother's Day. I can't recall every dish but the food has been consistently delicious. The wait staff is efficient and courteous. We've enjoyed the octopus salad, octopus main course, and stuffed shrimp on our last visit. My only complaint is about the noise level, tight seating and the strong, cold air blasting on us from the HVAC system in the main dining room. Outdoor seating is much more pleasant, weather permitting. read more

We had a rare Sunday morning off and were in search of a good brunch spot. We can be particularly picky about our brunch spots -- especially my hubby -- and everything at Nick's was pretty spot on. We've been pre-heated outdoor and heated outdoor. It was actually pretty nice to find a place in the area that had outdoor heating that actually kept you warm. One one side they have torch lit heaters, which is where we sat. Across the way they had both heater and torch seating, and all of them seemed to be more than adequately heated. They lost a star for the omelette which was pretty much not my favorite. In the past I've had their eggs benedict which was great. Service is always super. This is definitely on our list to return to. read more

I always enjoy visiting Nicks. They offer friendly service moderate prices and a Mediterranean menu with a twist. I came for dinner with a friend and wanted the lamb gyro sandwich, but the sandwich is only available for lunch. I ordered the lamb gyro platter ($20) and it came with freshly cut lamb, the house salad a few pieces of pita and "rice pilaf" which is more like a vegetable steamed rice. This is one of the top places for me in Forest Hills! Always make a reservation as it gets very busy, and for good reason! Excellent service, excellent food, great atmosphere. The gyros are great, but what stands out for me is always any fish dish and the octopus. The fish is never dry unlike many places, and the sauces really bring out the flavor and texture in the fish. I also enjoy the calamari. It's not too fried, not too chewy. If you need a spot for a date or a special occasion, this is it! Nick's has been able to stay open during most of quarantine and it has always served up excellent food. Ordering via the Toast app is easy; timing is generally on point give or take. This past Sunday their outdoor dining was in full force plus a line of people waiting for a table and waiters were hustling on a hot day. I was glad that I had planned on take-out. The pork souvlaki is juicy, tender and tasty and while the fries are not crisp by the time they get them home, they are still scrumptious. I had the flu and a friend was kind enough to send me three quarts of three different types of Chicken soup from Nick's. I had the Chicken noodle, Chicken rice, and the traditional lemon chicken soup. The best was the Chicken noodle. It wasn't too salty, had plenty of long thin noodles and pieces of chicken, and the broth was flavorful. The Chicken with rice had the same broth but was much saltier than the noodle version. I had to add a little hot water to dilute it. The rice was also a little hard. The lemon chicken one was my least favorite. It looked creamier than the other two. It had orzo, chicken, vegetables and lots of lemon juice. All the soups were unique and had fresh ingredients. It really helped me feel better. read more

The staff knew we were coming from our father's funeral and welcomed us even though we were late for our reservation. They couldn't have been more gracious or accommodating. I don't get why this restaurant has a strong 4.5 star rating when I have never experienced extraordinary food or impeccable service after numerous visits. First of all, knowing it's a Greek restaurant, we have tried many authentic Greek dishes in the past. Nothing bad, but nowhere near the quality of what you can get in Astoria. Maybe people around here settled for subpar Greek/Mediterranean food, but I rather drive all the way to Astoria. Today, stopped in with a friend for a quick bite. I got the Lamb Gyro Sandwich and he ordered a Porcini Cheeseburger. Gyro was fine but nothing to rave about. The burger however needed to be returned since it was super well done and not medium rare at all. On the second go around, it was well done again, but we ran out of time to return it. Took a few bites and ran. Servers were friendly enough, did not complain when we sent back the food and apologized for the mistake. Yet, they never came back to check on the new burger, which was slightly better but still not what my friend ordered. Oh well, fool me once, shame on you. Ni-Ni-Ni-Nick Nick Nick, Nick's splendid bistro! My new favorite Greek/Mediterranean restaurant! We pass by here on Metropolitan Ave all the time! Through CoViD, they've built up substantial café seating on the sidewalk which essentially doubled their dining space, but they've gotten added staff, so waiting for a table has been cut down, but it always helps to make a reservation anyway. We came on a quiet Tuesday night and sat inside to escape the humidity. There are heavy glass partitions between tables for proper separation. Make sure you check out the Specials on the daily menu. Of course, we start with my favorite Grilled Octopus Salad. The smokeyness of the grilled octopus with its tenderness made this delicious. In addition, we had 2 large bowls of Avgolemono soup and these were the small pint sized bowls. If I were to have lunch here, I would consider just having the quart sized XL bowl as my lunch. It's a creamy, lemony, chicken soup with carrots and orzo and I judge all Greek restaurants and diners by their avgolemono soup. This one is up there. For entrees, the three of us ordered from the specials menu. My wife got the Bronzini and had the option of 2 sizes for the day small and medium, even though the menu showed 3, priced at $24, $29 & $31 and 2 cooking choices, whole grilled or butterflied . She went with the medium size, butterflied, which was topped with a lemony sauce and a side of grilled veggies. The fish was decently sized that we were able to share. It was cooked to flakey perfection. My BIL got the Seafood Medley over Linguini, which was packed with mussels, calamari and fish fillets. The light tomato sauce was a little oily, but had great flavor. For my entree, I went with the Grilled Dinner Combo, which had a Grilled Pork Chop, 3 Chicken Sausages and a Stuffed Shrimp, all very tasty served over rice. I had to "borrow" some of my BIL's tomato sauce to dip my Chicken Sausage in exchange for some pork chop & sausage and it was a good taste combo. Luckily, we had room for dessert because they had my favorite, Galaktoboureko! Nick's version was a thick slice of baked custard in layers of flaky phyllo pastry and generously drizzled with sweet syrup. Awesome! Let me start off with this looks nicer of the outside than it is on the inside, service was ok the only part I found interesting was there signature drinks are very unique. I came here with my brother and his fiancé for my birthday and it was the worse decision I have made in a while. We ordered they special for the day; crab meat and shrimp sliders ( not sure if this is where I went wrong but I believe it was) and for entrees we ordered: Pork Chops, Lamb Gyro and someone sort of lemon chicken with the wildfire drinks. All I know is that 45 minutes into the dinner I started to feel sick so I asked to leave. The inside of the restaurant is not that large and it was quite busy. But the staff was just incredible. Kept our water glasses filled and served up just the right amount of attentiveness.
