Friendly and efficient staff made for a pleasant visit. The small was truly small, but the portions overall were large. The blueberry pancakes were delicious, the pork sausage was tasty, and the scrambled eggs were good. The corned beef hash was clearly canned but fine for what it was. The potatoes were good, the coffee was tasty, and even the water was good. Overall a solid average diner experience.

Nick's Diner, located at 11199 Veirs Mill Road in Wheaton, MD, is a landmark family-owned institution that has served the community for over 40 years. It is widely regarded as an "old-school" diner, characterized by its narrow layout, chrome swivel stools, and floor-to-ceiling glass windows. The diner was opened in September 1982 by Nick and Sophia Markopoulos. Nick, who immigrated from Greece, had a long history in the restaurant industry before establishing this Wheaton staple. The restaurant has remained a family affair for its entire existence. While Nick has officially retired (recently celebrating his 75th birthday at the diner), the day-to-day operations were passed down to his children, George Markopoulos and Heather Markopoulos. The menu is centered on traditional diner staples with a few unique family recipes. Guests frequently praise the large portions and the "old-school" preparations, such as blueberry, banana, or chocolate chip pancakes, corned beef hash with eggs, and the "Meat Lovers" omelet. The menu also includes a variety of cold and hot sandwiches, house-baked ham, and their famous home fries. I have been to Nick's Diner many times in the past, but had not written about this "old school" diner. But what really sets this finer apart is the super friendly service and welcoming attitude of every server. Most dishes are prepared in their flat iron skillet, but the cooks manage to put out expertly prepared and delicious breakfast and lunch dishes. It is always a pleasure to order my favorite, the turkey club on toasted whole wheat with Swiss cheese and bacon, always served with a generous side of potato chips mounted on top of the sandwich. If you are looking for an authentic, old-school diner experience, I fully recommend Nick's Diner!

Ladies and gentlemen...THIS is a diner! I've been visiting the Potomac/Bethesda area for the last week and when I tell you, I could not find a real diner around here that wasn't a chain or outrageously priced lol. I walk into here and it feels just like Home in New Jersey. Hard-working people, making magic at the grill. While, I would've killed to try the pancakes, i'm not having bread right now so that was a bummer but they looked amazing. I can say however I visited this place three times on my trip for breakfast. You pay the right amount of money and you get high-quality, delicious food. The bacon is thick sliced, the omelettes are beautifully prepared, the country ham is a must get! It's sliced fresh right in front of you. I wish I could articulate in a better way how much I enjoyed this place. Just the people in there as well. Meaning no offense, but Potomac is kind of notorious for having a bunch of snobby, uppity people around who kind of seem detached from real life. So coming in here where it was down-home, hard-working people you were surrounded by ---both customer and employees--- I felt way more at home eating here. If you're looking for a true bang for your book, you have to try this place out. Better than paying $20 for the same exact meal at some local chain diners in the area.

Consistently great breakfast here. Parking can be difficult because it's on a busy intersection. The service is quick and food is always hot. It's a very family oriented place. Prices are good and there is always seating when I've gone in the mornings.

It's a solid diner only open for breakfast and lunch. A limited menu with breakfast, salads and sandwiches. The service was good, once they actually remembered the water. It seemed like they worked as a team. It's very casual inside like a diner should be

It's a diner- no frills, simple menu, you know what you're getting. We came here for a weekend brunch and it was packed. The table seating is definitely cramped. There was a short wait, and then we were able to grab seats at the counter. They have a small parking lot, but it can be difficult to get to depending on which direction you're coming from. We were able to park in the lot next door and walk over. The waitresses were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. They have a system in place to keeps things moving but organized. I ordered the chocolate chip pancakes with corned beef hash. Food took a while to be brought out, but business was booming so there was a lot of hustle and bustle in the kitchen. Portions are good for the price. Service was efficient - I ordered the pancakes and it came with pats of butter, and the waitress knew to bring out the syrup without prompting. There was a generous amount of chocolate chips and the pancakes were adequately fluffy. The corned beef hash was good but not as crisp as I would've liked. Service was responsive to requests such as bringing extra napkins, and they were mindful of offering drink refills. Sitting at the counter, I had a view of their fridge and it had their canned Pepsi soda products, Ocean Spray cranberry juice, Safeway apple juice, reused Food Lion jugs of iced tea and lemonade, and other generic orange juice... I kind of wish I didn't see behind the curtain. As other Yelpers have mentioned, the bathroom is behind the counter, through the swinging doors - I thought they were joking at first, but they were serious. Aside from the menu, Nick's Diner was lacking the charms of a diner that I look for - music, milkshakes/desserts, and blue plate specials. Our experience was completely fine, just nothing special or alluring to warrant my return.

Four stars for good, honest food. I ordered a breakfast sammie and coffee. Both were delicious and filling.

This place has so many little tidbits for living the good life, they could rename it 'Good Life…read moreStation' or 'Good Life Company' -- for the company you will keep, and how this company keeps you ... fed, nourished, and I might even say acknowledged! I found the staff to be impressively knowledgeable and encouraging. I got a small bottle of a beautiful, snowy sake in a frosted blue bottle, an Italian spritzer-type thing, a boxed Merlot -- never tried such a thing before! -- and a sour cherry lambic-like drink, plus smoked Gruyere for later pizza-making, lavender-herb easily spreadable goats' milk cheese, and a selection of olives, feta, pickled red and green peppers and lemon in one handy-dandy small and portable, easy-to-use box! I really lived it up with these items out on the porch at home later .... I greatly enjoyed my meal of Beet and Grilled Apricot salad with creamy cilantro dressing (substitute for vinaigrette), and candied pecans -- all so very mmm! I love beets and must get almost any beet salad that may potentially come my way -- and here, I had two to choose from! The one I got was a special so not always available. The peaches in it were hard enough that they didn't mush-n-gush all over. They were easy to pick up with a fork and bite without them splashing or sliding all oozy-goozy- all over the place, and they had the nice dark marks of grilling right on them, visibly, for proof of having been grilled! That was fun to see. My dining partner had the fish tacos and apparently, those were very good. The table service was really nice, friendly, professional, skilled, and knowledgeable. I wouldn't say the food was exactly prepared swiftly but I also wasn't paying attention so I'm not sure -- because I was too busy browsing and purchasing items in the adjoining store to notice when the food even arrived. I wasn't there, but buying my deliciousness-to-go! What a wonderful time-saver! It was not too loud when I was there, the sunlight was streaming in the rather large windows, and I had a great time looking at the nice lighting fixtures, perusing goods, speaking with staff, and of course eating my most delicious salad! All-around highly recommended on all fronts -- or at least all the ones I tried -- comprising both the dining and shopping experiences ....

This was in total disregard to others patronizing the restaurant . It was totally impolite to be polite . There are better words to describe the behavior. Thinks a rule this should be banned as it drives customers away . The volume was so loud
