Went in to Nick's today for a NY Steak Burrito with avocado and sour cream. Yum! What I loved: crispy grilled tortilla, great flavor to the steak, everything tasted fresh, and homemade salsa -- all resulting in a really tasty burrito in an unlikely location. What I didn't love: the "spicy" salsa registered as more of a "mild" on my spice scale. I'm not a heat fiend, but when I go for the hottest option I usually am looking for just a little bit of hurt, and didn't really get that here. Also, this doesn't fit into a "pro" or a "con" category, but I'm a little shy and wasn't quite sure what to make of the extremely gregarious personality (I assume Nick's son?) behind the counter since it was my first time in. As far as atmosphere goes, this definitely seems like a place where the guys go to banter and talk sports, which puts me at a disadvantage because I'm a quiet nerd. ;) It's not necessarily a bad thing, I just think it'll take a few more visits to warm up to the atmosphere. read more

I did the dance between 4 and 5 stars here, but in the end.... i couldn't give them a 4 based on the lack of seating alone. Grande Steak Burrito, spicy, with sour cream. Thank me later. It is _delicious_. That being said, the breakfast sandwich is top shelf. It comes with a nice thick ham steak and egg over easy (as it should be, Kiki be knowin). I love coming to the this place. After only a few visits Kiki knew my order as well as my co-workers. Nice selection of sodas in the cooler as well. My buddy says the steak sandwich is certainly awesome. Only downfall worth mentioning, watch out for the seating between 11am-1pm. Great little hole in the wall. I've lived up the street for years and finally decided to stop in with my boyfriend for a sandwich. I'm so glad we did! We've been back 3 times in the last week! My boyfriend had the steak sandwich which was absolutely delicious. I had the Italian sub which was equally delicious. Second time we went we took some other yelpers advice and asked about the burger. OMG YUM! All I can say is wow!! Just recently moved to the area from Chicago { really good Mexican food in chi-town if you haven't been} I work down the street and a guy told me bout nicks. Always a little skeptical bout new places but I checked on here and had really great reviews. Pulled up...really small place behind 7-11...I think...lol. walked in..real small place...only seats bout 15 maybe. The guy working told me burritos are the most popular. Got a steak burrito....absolutely delicious....tortilla is grilled with cheese melting on it as they cook the meat. Rice is amazing along with beans and tomatoes. I will definitely be back for more numerous times!! Oh and the steak was phenomenal! Only downside is it is a little pricey but well worth it. If you want avocado or sour cream its extra. Nick's is amazing food. I was really skeptical at first - strip mall, almost graffitied windows, and limited parking. One day I just caved to my "try anything once" motto and went in. Upon entering you can tell this tiny place sees some action. It's decorated like a chill 50's diner with Formica tables, Coca-Cola ads and vinyl seats - some swivel. Not many places to sit, though. There are 3 tables at the front and a bar around the grill that looks to seat about 6 total. It's not all 50's though. There are some ski poles on the walls which is a little out of place since it rarely snows in Kirkland. Plus there is a kick-ass 80's style boombox on the counter that plays everything from oldies to 90's rap. Behind the counter is usually brother and sister duo Kiki & Caety respectively. They are lively, and in touch with their customers treating even the new arrival as if they've known them their whole lives. Skimming the menu was short but sweet. They know what their specialties are, and concentrate on a few choice meals by perfecting them. I ordered the Italian sandwich. Caety asked if I wanted it hot or cold. Since the rage is all about hot sandwiches right now, that's what I chose. Best. Decision. Ever. The meat is thick and juicy, and the salad gives it just enough crunch. Went there with my friends and we each really liked our meals. I had a vegan version of the veggie burrito and asked for it to be spicy and they delivered. The tortilla was grilled to a perfection and the rice and beans and avocado were all very flavorful. And I obviously enjoyed the homemade hot sauce. Even my omnivore friends said it looked like it was a deluxe burrito (considering it was vegan). And I got the regular size which was pretty hearty. My friends got the chicken quesadilla and the chicken sandwich and I could tell they were delicious just by looking at them. The cheddar cheese was grilled so it has a bit of a crispy edge holding in all the melted goo. And despite us already having a late breakfast none of us had a problem finishing our plates. Last but not least, the owner Kiki (sp?) seemed like a really stand up guy with great energy. And he definitely had his regular customers because he knew what they wanted without asking. One of my favorite spots in the entire state! Kiki runs the joint and always remembers folks...even if they havent been there much or in a while. It is really fun to hang out at the counter and BS with everyone during lunch. That is all fine and dandy, but where this place stands out is the food. Surprisingly really good. I'm surprised because of it's location. I live a mile away and have always seen this place but never thought to check it out until I checked out yelp. I've had the steak burrito and steak sandwich. I like both. My bf always asks me to pick and I can never make up my mind. The steak sandwich has a huge cut of steak, melted cheese, grilled onions and tomatoes. The steak marinade is delicious! The burrito has what you expect in a burrito. The steak definitely makes it delicious. I also like their potato salad. the only thing that stops me from going to this place all the time is the price. ~$10 for a sandwich is just too much for me. Really wanted to like this place based on the reviews--Yelp has led me a bit astray once again! I ordered 2 large burritos, 1 steak and 1 chicken. For $12 a piece, they'd better be either amazing or plentiful. And while the burritos were pretty good tasting, they were just a little bit bigger than a Chipotle burrito, but at 2x the cost. And, they were mostly stuffed with seasoned rice. The steak was decently flavored, but I cannot comment on the tenderness as they were cut into small cubes. Again, not a lot of meat either. The chicken--I could have sworn, it was Costco rotisserie chicken... I will say that the tortilla used for the burrito was very tasty. Have not tried any of the other items, but overall, I would have to say that the food tastes decent, but is about $3-4 over priced. My manager took me here to eat and i was very surprised with the place. It def. has a ton of character and is one of those hole in the wall joints that you hear so much about. Best chicken sandwich I've ever had. I finally got a Yelp account, so I feel it's necessary to review all of my favorite places right away, this being one of them! Nick's Grill is quite a well kept secret in Kirkland, connected to the back of a 7-11, I almost didn't notice it was there. I've eaten here several times, and recommended it to many friends who were also more than pleased. They have excellent burritos, but their chicken sandwich is AMAZING, one-of-a-kind, delicious. Their potato salad is also tasty. This restaurant is one of the main things I miss about living in Kirkland, since I'm now on the other side of the lake it's not as convenient to get to. After seeing the yelp reviews here, I decided to give this place a try for lunch. Walking into the establishment it was pretty busy? Which I consider a good sign. Adorning their counter is a sign that says "best burger in Kirkland" I was sold. Order the burger, and wait close to 20 minutes for it (it was busy so no big deal) and finally got the burger and went back to the office to eat it. Talk about unspectacular. The bun was the best part of the burger by far and away. The sauce they used was bland. The add shredded lettuce to the burger (since when has this become a thing??? Give me a crisp slice of iceberg and stop shredding the dang lettuce) The patty was flavorless and barely held together. Sad but true statement is that Wendy's has better burger flavor. I will give the place one more try, and I'll stick to the burrito that everyone talks about. ***update*** 11/11/14 Dropping my review to one star. Came in hungry. The guy behind the counter & manning the grill suggested the burrito. We opted for the grande steak - spicy with avocado and took it home. It's such a nice surprise to unwrap carry out food and the first bite is - WOW! We shared that meaty, spicy, juicy big boy and enjoyed every post-dinner burp! A cold Corona with lime was the perfect accompaniment. We've driven by several times and now we know stopping for a burrito is the right thing to do! I have only been to Nick's Grill two times in the last four years probably because I thought it was deep into Kirkland when I first moved to Seattle. Right off the 116th St exit on I-405 N, this joint is quick and easy. Quite the character, especially with the original Star Wars playing on TV all the time. There are not too many options, but the burrito size is just right with a decent amount of stuffing. Not very noticeable due to the location and you may automatically assume the food is not so good, staff is amazingly nice and food is not bad. Try it out! Tiny hole in the wall with kick ass food=love love love! I've only been a handful of times and have gotten the steak burrito with their spicy red sauce was fantastic. The bff ordered the NY Strip sandwich which was great in all it's cheesy and oniony goodness. Went to Nick's for the first time trying to find something near the new place. Nick's Grill was located just a stone's throw away, so I figured I'd give the place a shot. It'd be nice to have a place nearby to grab food at when I was not feeling particularly inclined to cook. And I wasn't disappointed; I'm not a huge fan of Tex-Mex, but Nick's was great. The meat and avocado I had in my burrito were top-tier; the tortilla was not just warmed, it was cooked to just-the-right level of crispy. Kiki himself was also fantastic -- loud and boisterous, he was as every bit the personality as the other reviewers described. Pleasure: absolutely delicious burritos, locally owned and operated by super friendly / sarcastically funny people, homemade in their completely open kitchen while you watch. Guilty: it's expensive! Two regular chicken burritos, one with avocado and sour cream and one with just avocado = $21. Gives you that guilty feeling... Until you bite into the deliciousness of flavorful rice, grilled chicken, spicy salsa, creamy avocado and cool sour cream with just the right amount of cheese and that crispy grilled tortilla shell. Stopped by Nick's Grill today to see what all the fuss was and ordered the Chicken Sandwich. I have to say although the chicken sandwich was tasty, I could only eat half of it due to it being so messy/greasy/heavy. When I first opened the foil on my sandwich I noticed there was crispy cheese on both sides sticking out of the sandwich but in that cheese most of the chicken from the sandwich was suspended there. Now don't get me wrong, that crispy cheesy chicken was super tasty, but sadly there was not much cheese or chicken left in the sandwich. All in all it was a tasty sandwich, but I am not feeling so great after eating it. Not something I could eat again as it is just too greasy and unhealthy. read more

We were never tempted to stop because it is tucked between an autobody shop and behind a 7-11. It wasn't until 2 friends independently recommened the place (thanks Matt & Dave) that we gave it a try. I'm very thankful we did. Staff is very friendly and the burritos are delicious. Do yourself a favor and get the grilled steak burrito (grande of course).
