Cream cheese frosting was still a bit too sweet for me (think I prefer Deep Sea Sugar and Salt's to this) and I had to remove most of it, but the cake was overall pretty good though a little on the dry side. I get why this place is popular, but I don't think I had the best first time experience here. With the high number of positive reviews though, maybe they were just having a bad day since it was a Saturday and pretty crowded, so I'm hoping to come back again in the future, during like a seasonal special if they have any.

My family ordered: - VEGGIE SHACK ($9.99 for a single patty, $12.99 for a double patty) - Veggie burger packed with mushrooms, sweet potatoes, carrots, farro, and quinoa, and topped with American cheese, crispy onions, pickles and ShackSauce. This is not your typical Impossible burger or black bean burger, although it has more the texture of the latter. The patty exterior is crispy and the interior is soft and mushy, which complements the crunchy pickles well. It's a little on the sweeter side because of the sweet potato and carrots, but overall a satisfying veggie burger. If it weren't for the fries and shake, I'd probably get a double patty as one patty wasn't satiating enough for lunch. - 'SHROOM BURGER ($9.99) - Crisp-fried portobello mushroom filled with melted muenster and cheddar cheeses, topped with lettuce, tomato, and ShackSauce on a toasted potato bun. They were burning hot right out of the fryer, super crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside. They had just the right amount of salt and had a good body to them to, where even the longest strands didn't break. We loved these so much, that we ended up ordering an extra basket after we finished off the first. - VANILLA SHAKE ($6) - House-made vanilla frozen custard with real vanilla. I prefer my shakes on the thicker side, but this didn't quite meet the mark as it was more liquidy than I would've liked (perhaps because it's custard-based). While it supposedly contains real vanilla, there aren't any vanilla bean flecks and so it most likely just uses vanilla extract. It was cold and refreshing, but can't say I'd go out of my way for it. - COFFEE SHAKE ($6) - Dark roast coffee hand-spun with our house-made vanilla frozen custard. The coffee taste was kind of flat and tasted more like a Frappuccino. The lid also wasn't screwed on properly (or had extra liquid that got stuck underneath the lid) and so it spilled everywhere. Service was great and we got our food within 10 minutes after ordering. They bring the food to your table and you bus yourself. The outdoor tables were relatively clean. Overall: 4/5 for food, 4/5 for service, 4/5 for atmosphere

Insulted by restaurant owners father. I have never been so insulted in live, and why? I dared to disagree with the current administration's policies. I have been a loyal regular customer since 2004. On October, before the election, the father was standing at the door of the restaurant and jokingly saying you can only enter if you vote for Obama. Well, I said, in that case I am having lunch elsewhere. We all laughed, I ordered my lunch and left. Months later the father asked me where I am from and why I did not vote for Obama. I told him I don't agree with the economic policies and I don't care for the health care bill, that was the basic jest of the short conversation....unfortunately I told him I am from South Africa, I say unfortunately because today when I went in to pick up my lunch, the owner was not there (on vacation) and his folks was standing in. No sooner did I get to the counter when the father made his way up to me and with a LOUD voice announced "you are the republican that said something derogatory about Obama, republicans are racists!" I was stunned...I NEVER said anything against Obama. I disagree with his (and congresses) views. Now let me educate this ignorant liberal...there is a difference between disagreeing and derogatory remarks. I disagreed!! Then he when ahead and scolded me for South Africa's past.... Blamey the countries cause was set before I was born!!! In short his conclusion was, you are white, born in South Africa and you did not vote for Obama so you are a RACIST!!! There I stood, the entire places eyes fixed on me and him running of saying "now I said my peace"!!! By the way and not that it matters, I am NOT a republican, and I WAS a customer. read more

My boyfriend and I went in there the other day and got KICKED OUT because of a miscommunication!! My boyfriend ordered the new york steak sandwich. Didn't say the sandwich part because he had no idea there was a sandwich AND a new york burrito. The VERY OLD VERY RUDE man behind the counter started making a burrito. My boyfriend corrected himself very politely and said I wanted the sandwich not the burrito. The man FLIPPED OUT! Told us that's not what my boyfriend ordered and that he wanted the burrito, my boyfriend proceeded to explain it was a miscommunication and that we did want the sandwich, but the man yelled 'GET THE FU*K OUT OF HERE I DON'T WANT TO SELL TO YOU" Calling my boyfriend names as we walked out.... All because of a miscommunication over a burrito/sandwich... Fu*k that!!! We were referred by a good friend of ours and we could not believe the disrespect from this old man. Ever since I moved out of Seattle 9 years ago, I have missed so much about it. However, nothing as much as Nick's Grill. Everytime I come and visit Seattle, I make my mecca to this charming, unpretentious haven of burritos and quesadillas. I live in LA for crying out loud and have yet to find a burrito that is as good as the one Kiki (the owner) makes!!! The tortillas are always perfectly crisped, the white meat chicken perfectly grilled, the sauce perfectly spicy, and the avocado sliced thick! Hungry yet? If you haven't tried this place out, you're definitely missing out. The ambiance is perfection. You feel like you're coming into your friends home for a good meal. The people that work there are so charming and really funny (please don't go if you don't have a sense of humor). I have found myself sitting a the bar HOURS (no joke) after eating, just hanging out and shooting the shit. Go to Nick's Grill for an awesome burrito or quesadilla (I hear their sandwiches are also fantastic, but I can't quite stray from ordering the perfect burrito) and a family/homey feel. read more

once you step foot in the door, you get an immediate sense of family. you can tell just by the atmosphere that a lot of love is put into this small family-run restaurant. the kitchy antiques on the walls keep your eyes busy and the food keeps your mouth even busier. i've tried several things on the menu and in no particular order, here are my favorites. the chicken salad (bed of white basmati rice, lettuce, avocado, grilled chicken, tomatoes and paramesan cheese with a homemade italian dressing) the dressing is absolutely addictive! steak burrito (grilled flour tortilla, cheese, basmati rice, black beans, fresh salsa, grilled steak) i usually get mine spicy. ham sandwich (grilled cheese, grilled ham, honey mustard sauce and tomatoes) i get mine with a side of potato salad and a side of salsa. if you want to avoid the lunch rush - i would go after 2pm. it can get really crazy busy in there and understandably so because the food is SO good! if you ever find yourself in the totem lake area / kirkland area nick's grill is a must stop! read more

Nicks grill can't get any better. Seriously. Absolutely, hands down, the best Mexican restaurant out there. For vegetarian people, this is THE go-to place! Nick is a fabulous chef and the person at the front is the most helpful person. The food can be very spicy if you want it to be spicy, but if you want it to be tender and tasty then you can opt for that. The best part about Nick's grill is that the burritos are very warm and fresh when they come out. The black beans are not your average black beans, I don't know how Nick does it! The rice is also very well cooked and has some sort of additive flavor added to it that makes it tastier than ever. The sandwiches were out of this world - seriously, extraordinary is the perfect word to describe them. And don't even get me started on the steak burritos - they were absolutely delicious. Needless to say, we left with happy tummies and big smiles on our faces. This place has definitely earned itself a spot on our list of go-to spots for a tasty meal. They broke the mold when they made this place. A friend of mine told me how good the food was and that I had to stop in and give it a try. It's the kind of place you'd drive by 100 times and never realize it's there or stop by if you did. Tiny little place with all kinds of weird decorations. What really matters is my friends was right. This place has great food and an awesome staff. I had a burrito that was the size of my arm. Every ingredient in the perfect proportion and throughout the entire burrito. There are the usual Margarita and Corona signs on the walls and windows of the restaurant. After we got seated, we were right away served with home made chips and salsa. They even brought their super spicy homemade salsa. The chips were warm and the salsa was delicious...something that I judge a lot of Mexican restaurants on. We tried the veggie fajitas and chimichanga. Both were served in generous portions and were delicious. I just wish that the pricing was a little bit more favorable as each item was around $23 when it could have probably been around $15. For dessert, we got the churros which were filled with sweet cream and drizzled with whipped cream and chocolate. They were delicious but, again, instead of $10 I think this should have been more like $7. I recommend Plaza Garcia for some good authentic Mexican food but come prepared to spend some higher than average cash.

I liked the thicker bacon slices in my burger. We both agreed that Coastline's burgers are not "over the top" in flavors but more of a "mom and pop" style of flavor (if that makes sense).
