Our brunch had some outstanding moments: the house chicken sausage was grilled, and was spicy and flavorful; the polenta dish was delicious with rich corn and cheese flavors which melded with a perfectly cooked egg; the potatoes were crispy, without a hint of grease, and were seasoned perfectly As for the rest of the meal, it was adequate. My Eggs Benedict had a delicious, lemony hollandaise sauce, but there was so little of it that it felt more like a garnish than a sauce. It was a meatless dish, which was fine, but I did not see why it contained several raw spinach leaves, which added no flavor and made it hard to eat. It was served atop a biscuit, which apparently had been placed upon the griddle, giving it a strange, greasy, crumbly taste and texture. The homemade English muffins my table-mates ordered suffered from the same technique and were very disappointing. Finally, the vegetable frittata was lovely to look at, but tasted bland and was slightly dry. "Bland" would also describe the service. It was acceptable, but nothing special. Despite the negatives, I would try it again. I would bet that the "special" breakfast with eggs, sausage and potatoes would be great, since those were my favorite menu items. Nick's is my favourite brunch spot in providence! The atmosphere is nice and laid back and the service is good but what sets Nicks apart in my mind is the fact the use really fresh delicious ingredients. Each time I go to Nick's I get an omelet because it my personal favourite. While I usually try to order something interesting when eating brunch or breakfast out, the Nick's omelet is so much better than what I can make at home, so I order it anyway. All of the vegetables are fresh, perfectly cooked and plentiful and the cheese high quality and spread liberally. I get caramelized onions, roasted red peppers and goats cheese in mine, but that is just personal preference. My friends have ordered the tofu sauteed with vegetables and the poached eggs over a bed of sauteed greens- which they loved as well. Everything is the served with yummy potatoes (regular and sweet) and pesto brushed focaccia. While I have not had dinner at Nick's I have sampled a few desserts. The chocolate brownie is good and the ice cream that came with it was really delicious. I've also had their grilled muffin which was light and tasty as well. The only downside to this place is because it is so good, it is always full around brunch, especially on the weekends. And the fact that they don't take reservations means you can be waiting for over an hour. read more

There is a reason nicks is always busy. The food is inventive and beautifully prepared. Chef Derek knows how to source ingredients, pair flavors, and offer a dish that makes you wonder if you could duplicate it. The soups are superb. His charcuterie is always worth trying. Somehow the exquisitely prepared vegetables always hold their own with whatever they are complimenting. That is just dinner . Breakfast and lunch are equally sensational. My only complaint is the noise level. Nicks is a happening spot, great looking, with a hip, urban vibe,and handsome contemporary look. GOOD: arrived around 1:00, was told 30-minute wait, but was seated in 15 or so. Lots of hipsters, pleasant vibe. BAD: Service was slow -- from seating to food arrival 40 minutes; sneaky up-charges -- "Would you like whipped cream on hot chocolate? (Add $1 to an already pricey $4.50), "Would you like sausage on your Eggs Benedict? (Add $5.00). REALLY BAD: Hot chocolate taste was okay, BUT it was lukewarm. Had obviously sat around for awhile before making its way to the table. The omelet was twice cooked -- once in the pan and again as it sat under the heat lamps on the counter. What should have been a fluffy omelet had a hard shell from cooking under the lamps and filling was dried out. The home fries were also dried out. Should have sent it back, but my partner's plate had arrived and I didn't want to go through an extended wait. Disappointing experience. Won't be recommending to friends. This was not my first time at this restaurant. My daughter lives in Providence. They historically serve food very slow., but never this slow. We arrived for breakfast at 11:10 am and were told it was a 45 to 60 minute wait. We waited over an hour to be seated. Our waitress was polite. We ordered our food within 10 minutes because we were very hungry. It was breakfast. Our food did not arrive for another 55 minutes. No apologies, no bread, just water and coffee refills. I heard the waitress give complimentary soup to a table that arrives after us. They were eating before we were. I order a burger medium well, no pink. The waitress and I discussed it during our order. The burger arrived very rare and bleeding. I sent it back and ask for it to be cooked more. The waitress came back with the burger within 2 minutes. I cut it in half and it was still the same raw and bleeding. I had to flag down who I believe was the manager. I was near tears because I was so hungry after waiting for over two hours. It was my daughters birthday. What a horrible way to celebrate her morning. My raw burger was taken away. I was offered another meal. My family was already done eating. I left hungry. My meal and my coffee was not charged. Each of us was given a one inch square brownie like dessert for our trouble. My daughter and I have celiac disease, so it isn't easy to eat at restaurants. Nick's was recommended. Food was below average and service is horrible for the price. Avoid this restaurant since Providence has many other fabulous eateries. read more

Wow. Wow. Wow. I just had my first experience at Nicks today. My friend and I went in for their brunch. It was absolutely amazing. I can honestly say that it was by far the best brunch I have ever had in my life. And I have eaten all over the world. The atmosphere is awesome. The staff was really friendly. I love open kitchens and this culinary team made it that much more amazing. The owner was expoing and our food came out in a timely manner and was garnished to perfection. First, I am not the one to usually write reviews - but I had to for this place. Don, (a colleague at work) recommended and organized my 'farewell dinner' at Nicks. He had reserved seats and had arranged for a 'four course' dinner. Will be honest to admit that (being a vegetarian), I went to this place with very little expectations. It was an amazing and memorable experience - and I am glad I went by the recommendations from Don - not to mention the tasteful and creative items dished out by the chef and staff. The attention to detail was phenomenal - each dish was not only pleasing to the eye but was also a burst of colors and flavors in my mouth. The chefs went to great lengths to pair the vegetarian (and seafood dishes) in a way that they appeared to be the same. I would recommend this place in a heart beat - can be expensive (depending on your selection) - but in my opinion worth every penny - especially if you can arrange for a friend who knows the chef (Derek) and staff The atmosphere, the food and the service were all top notch. read more

I guess I should have ordered the eggs benedict since that's what everyone raves about, but I figured for the first time I'd try something simple. After all if somewhere that specializes in brunch can't make eggs bacon and homefries perfectly then I'd have my doubts about anything more complicated. I was disappointed that my poached eggs were watery. Bacon was pretty good, home fries pretty good but nothing that wow'd me. And if I'm going to spend 50 bucks on brunch I expect to be wow'd. Probably the best breakfast in New England hands down. Their French toast is the best I've ever had and their food is always fresh. My mom has an allergy to gluten and they are extremely accommodating. We've been going here for years, even before it was at this location, and it has always been a favorite spot for us. Our experience today was very disappointing, mostly because the service was terrible. We were well after the breakfast/brunch rush, and were seated immediately. However, we had to wait an unreasonably long time to give our order (10 minutes) and again to get our check (another 10 minutes, at least) and our waitress kept disappearing. At one point she deposited the maple syrup on our table in passing with her head averted, so that we couldn't get her attention. When she did talk to us her manner was oddly unfriendly. We really felt that we were imposing on her. The food was good but not quite worth the wait and the attitude. We tipped 10% on the before-tax total (apologies to the rest of the staff) and we won't be back anytime soon. read more

Weird entrance walking around bar. Seated promptly at 6:45. Portions are tiny. Value is low. Skirt steak meal was extremely chewy and tough to cut. No flavor. Monk fish was good but portions tiny. Risotto and mushrooms tasted like cream of mushroom out of a can. We complained about steak being chewy and full of stringy fat. Server was indifferent and did not respond. I've been wanting to come for nicks for so long and finally I made it. After all this time it was completely worth it. Let's just get straight to the food. Highlights: vanilla dipped brioche French toast and eggs Benedict. French toast was filling, thick , light, fluffy and delicious. The Vermont maple syrup accompanying it was perfect. Unlike the cheap stuff from the grocery store. Eggs Benedict equally amazing. So full of flavor. The bread underneath wasn't soggy, eggs were expertly poached and the hollandaise sauce was out of this world. Fresh parsley really enhanced the flavor. I hate to be critical but I was really looking forward to the home fries/ potatoes. They virtually had no flavor and if any had a bit of a funny one at that. I just feel,they covered all the basics and something as simple as potatoes shouldn't be a negative. Lastly I know they are popular and there's going to be a wait but it still sucks. What they said would be a 20 minute wait turned into a 56 minute wait. I'd rather not focus on the negative since the good blows it out of the water. Not that I'm a hater or anything: the food is good, which is why I returned, but the waiting time is ridiculous. My family and I had to wait over an hour to be seated, but here's the kicker: the manager seated people BEHIND us on the list. When I asked when we were going to be seated, the manager offered to split us and seat us at tables that have been available for well over half an hour. Such a unique and incredible restaurant in so many ways! The thing to do here is to get the four course chef's choice dinner. The chef is incredible and makes every table a unique meal if you get this option. We had oysters, gnocchi, and scallops on a mushroom fritter, and three small chocolate desserts. We were also given the most delicious bread I've ever had and soup to start, along with a palette cleanser. I don't usually like oysters and it was still incredible! The service was also really great. We had such a friendly and accommodating waitress. This is definitely a great place for a date! They also use all local ingredients which is so refreshing to see. If you order the chef's choice, they keep track of what you had, so they can be sure to make you something new the next time. I would definitely recommend it! read more
