Ok, I really liked this place but I can see where people would be a little on the hesitant side. It is a true dive bar. Unlike some of these newer bars that try to have a dive feeling, this place is truly a full on dive. A little warn down, a little smelly, and a very diverse crowd. I came here with my boyfriend to watch a hockey game and I enjoyed my experience from start to finish. The menu is mostly Italian food which surprised me. I ordered the pizza and it was incredible! I never finish my food but I ate the whole thing. Before the pizza, I ordered the chips and homemade salsa. My boyfriend was pretty skeptical about the salsa since it's an Italian place, but it turned out great. I would order both the pizza and the salsa again. Something else that we both noticed was how nice the staff is. They will talk to you and get to know you. They are also pretty fast. I never felt neglected of forgotten. Nick's Place feel's like a bowling alley. . . I'm not talking Lucky Strike either. I mean the real deal type of bowling alley, with the old school decor and awesome regulars. Oh--and minus the smell! I was in the neighborhood and passed the sign. I did my research right quick and shook my head as the low reviews came from people expecting gourmet bar food or something. The exterior is a give away that this place is not vying for a write up as the swanky new place to be in 002 or something. Instead, Nick's sign touts pizza, so that's where I put my money. Despite shaking my head at the low star reviews, I ordered gourmet on the pizza. I had a small four cheese and added pepperoni. O.K., so maybe I just ordered weird. Thing is, it's pretty solid pizza. It was like comfort pizza. Like there's the stereotype where a girl rewards herself with ice cream and chocolate--this is the man equivalent. This is what I'd binge on after a breakup. I love Nick's Place. I'm not much a standard bar person at all but this is one fun sports bar! Add some good appetizers and entrees to the peppy atmosphere and you've got an enjoyable time. We have been to Nick's to watch our college teams as well as our other favorite pro sports teams and have received good service and tasty food each time. The Cheesy Poofs are a must. Fried cheese ravioli with a decent marinara for dipping is always good. We are also partial to the stuffed mushrooms, mozzarella sticks and the buffalo wings. The jalapeño chips and stuffed jalapeños are pretty good, too. There lots of other menu items to choose from, as well, which means something for every type taste. When it comes to entree items the list is far from short. Nick's makes quite a good muffuletta sandwich. It has the approval of a true New Orleans Cajun and I trust his taste. The pizzas aren't the authentic regional Italian pizzas I grew up eating but they're still yummy. We like the I Got Your Meat pizza with pepperoni, sausage, beef and bacon. It will satisfy even the most raging carnivore's appetite for meat. I never forget dessert, the main part of the meal (well, it is!). For desserts Nick's offers a delicately sweet and satisfying cannoli. The tiramisu is light, creamy and wonderfully full of that beautiful beverage that is espresso. Not to be outdone, the gelato and brownie sundae is rich, chocolatey and induces happiness. The kitchen starts serving at 9am for those early games or for a regular breakfast stop. They also deliver locally and cater for any occasion. Customer service is friendly and employees are cool. They keep things festive to go with the atmosphere. Nicky's place is good for children and adults alike. Most families are there earlier in the day and in the late afternoon and evenings it's mostly adults. Good food, a game of interest on the TV and tasty food to go with it makes this sports bar a place I like coming to. read more

I came here because of the reviews and it didn't disappoint. The bartenders were great and talkative. The food and beers were good. This place has a very unique character for sure! I sat at the bar to watch the hockey playoffs. The bartender that we had was very nice and talked to me about hockey until someone needed something. He was a character for sure, but it really enhanced my experience. There were some regulars at the bar that had me cracking up, especially when one went off about Les Alexander. It was like something straight out of cheers. The beers were good. They had many local and macro beers. I really loved the Saint Arnold tap handle that they had at the bar. When the keg of the beer I was drinking ran out, they were very quick to get it changed out and pouring again. They had about 8-10 beers on draft. The food here was good. It's mostly Italian, so you can get pizza, calzones, or even Chicken Parm if you wanted. I had the chips and salsa as an appetizer because that's what you order at an Italian place...right? Anyways, they were very good and the salsa was dynamite. For an entree I had the calzone and it was delicious, even though I think the crust could have been a little more browned. Fun, yes - just not the best. On a slow night, this place has an okay time of it, though the cocktail waitress we had was trying to compensate for her lack of service vis-a-vis her lack of clothes. A pity she was rail thin, I may have added a star had she had more meat on her bones, but the curvy girl was fully clothed and not serving our table! Every drink took a million years on a slow night, so I have nothing really awesome to add other than the drinks themselves are very strong. The crowd was fun, and I wish I had more time at this place, but other than mediocrity, this place did not serve much fun. Yes, NASCAR was on for those that love that shit. I, personally, do not, and wished they had kept the France-Australia rugby match on (myself being a former Rugby player - a hooker, to be exact). But hey, no harm no foul. We came out here to watch football....my fiance met up with a group of his "friends" I thought I was going to be uncomfortable but the place is surrounded with friendly ppl! Everyone there made us feel welcome including the staff! Oh and the food was great! we had the Cheesy Poofs and a Calzone amazing! and they made sure our buckets where never empty! I recently went to Nick's Place for the first time ever for their 16th anniversary party. I can understand how they can still be in business after all these years... they have an amazing, attentive and friendly bar staff. In fact, you'll likely see Nick serving as bartender or waiter on any day. The drinks are just like i like 'em - strong and cheap! And the food... DELICIOUS, authentic Italian food... I love this bar. It's as far away from Washington Ave. that you can get... you don't have a bunch of popped collars and d-bag attitudes. It's not a "concept" where they've dressed the place up to look like a dive sports bar. It *is* a dive sports bar, and the people who come here are regular folk out to get their drink on and watch a little sports. Happy hour is cheap, and the kitchen puts out some pretty decent grub from morning until nearly closing time. I worked late last night and wanted to eat, so I hit up Nicks Place right after happy hour. The patrons were all fairly lubricated and friendly. After about 5 minutes on the barstool, I had struck up conversations with pretty much everyone around me and we were having a great time. This solid 4 star experience earned an extra star for sheer entertainment value when I was party to a conversation where a drunk girl says she crashed into a light pole, but because the cop remembered her from Nick's Place he decided to just write her a ticket for hitting the light pole and drop her off at Nick's where someone could take her home instead of hauling her ass to jail for a DUI. Once arriving at Nick's they refused to serve her, so she went to another bar, who refused to serve her, so she went to another bar that apparently will serve anyone. There she met someone and has been staying with that person at the Hotel Derek for the last two nights. Somehow, I don't think this is what the cop had in mind for someone 'taking her home.' I told you, everyone is friendly at Nick's Place. There's absolutely no pretense here. Even if there isn't a game on TV, drop in, have a beer, get some grub, and just hang out for awhile. read more

Went here on a weekday night starving! It was my first time and the place seemed a little intimidating from the outside, but wanted to give this place a shot anyway. They had a little bit of everything on the menu! Since there was so much to choose from the waiter/bartender suggested the pizzadilla as an appetizer. We ordered that and their steak that came with baked potatoes and side salad. OMFG their pizzadilla was the best quesadillas I've ever tried. It had onions, chicken, jalapenos, alot of cheese, and 'idk wth they put in there' inside. It's a little spicy but tolerable and deliciousss. I would definitely come back just for that! Their steak was eeehh not so great..but cheap. The baked potatoes was kind of burnt to me and ceasar salad I could have made at home. The people there were really welcoming since we told them it was our first time and super attentive. They were talkative and really nice. Of all the restaurants I've been to in houston so far, this one is by far the most bland. I got a cheese steak, and it was pretty unappetizing. The bread was completely soggy from the amount of grease. It looks like the place hasn't had a deep clean in about 20 years or so. Just look up at the ceiling when you go in. There were also fruit flies. It's just a generic sports bar where 80% of the stuff on the menu is fried. Nothing special really. read more

Would not come back here if someone paid me. Ordered the gigantic calzone. Creepy guy continuously walked around my girlfriends car waiting outside for me. The calzone was the worst I've ever had. Was not sure if it was cheese that was in it or some strange greasy lard. I took three bites of it before I realized I would probably die if I were to finish it. I threw basically the entire thing in the trash. About thirty minutes later I had an upset stomach. I would not have fed this meal to my dog. Disgusting. Not only is the pizza fantastic, but the Italian Tacos are great, too! It's Nicks pizza dough with fresh Italian ham, salami, arugala, provolone and olive oil. Really tasty...Also, Joe the bartender (who will also give you some good bets for football) will take great care of you or your group. The best Sports bar/hole in the wall you'll find to watch your favorite team play. The only reason Nicks gets 4 and not 5 stars: no Jameson's Irish whiskey...But, Nick is a great guy who's always around. If you've never been, give it a try. read more

So... after our not-so-great experience with Nick's the first go... I took Nick up on his offer to come in for a complimentary meal. This time, we went in and didn't deliver - and boy oh boy, was I surprised. First, I've been looking for a good sports bar for NFL season that has more than a 12 inch TV in the corner. Nick's has this part covered. GREAT quality TV's EVERYWHERE -- huge ones too. The food was MUCH MUCH better this time around. We ordered a specialty pizza that was delicious and the Chicken Florentine was a success as well. Nick had offered to pay for our meal, but since I brought extra people, I didn't think it would be right. However, 6 people ate for $100. And ate WELL for $100. Nick's was super nice when he called me - and gave me his cell phone - and returned my call - and greeted me at the door! For the one bad experience, he made up for it 10 fold. Going to Nick's so many times and seeing so many people ordering those huge pizzas... Too much for a single person, but tonight, Dad and I decided to get one. The pizza was halved, the first being Dad's veggie/mushroom pizza while I had pineapple, spinach, ricotta, beef, sausage, and black olives. Both of us agreed: the best pizza we've had in the past five years - or more. Nick's beats Dominos in the 1st round (and all other comers in subsequent rounds) 6-0, 6-0, 6-0 scoring 72 aces with a 100% first-serve percentage. read more

Went again for another wrestling PPV. Don't you judge me! It is a $5 cover to get in on a Sunday. The first time I went, they made ANYONE pay $5. Turned one dude away at the door because he didn't want to pay. The second time I went, I heard some girl in the restroom talk about how someone asked if she was there for the wrestling, (she was not) and I'm assuming she didn't pay? There is an area on the left side of the bar with TVs too so maybe that's where all the other non-wrestling patrons were. I finally tried some food. Sundays they have .50 or .55 wings. They have regular and extra hot. I just got regular, but they were delicious. I also tried Mom's stuffed mushrooms. They were okay. Eventually, I stopped eating the stuffing and just ate the mushrooms. I think they have beer specials on Sunday, which is usually Ziegenbock. I'll drink that. Also, don't be discouraged by the PPVs on Sunday, they still have a bunch of other things showing on the other TVs. (When I say they have a lot of TVs, I mean, A LOT.) read more

Love the wings here! They put hooters, Buffalo Wild Wings and Wingstop to shame! The fact that they deliver---I would give them 6 stars if I could. I live about one block from this place and the food is still steaming hot when it gets to my door! Online ordering is a breeze! I have eaten here twice but never been to the actual place! But when I drive by it's always a packed house ( that has to mean it's awesome..right?!) Love the food, delivery drivers are awesome couldn't ask for anything more! Delivery was even fast on a Sunday ( during Football ). Also, for you people who never give enough ranch with your wings ( Wingstop and Hooters I am talking to you) Nick's give you plenty and doesn't charge for extra! Their fried pickles are great too! I have not been here in a while. Let me get the negatives out of the way first. The parking situation here is quite horrible. They just don't have enough parking for the amount of cars/people that they draw. They need to seriously consider expanding the parking lot to accommodate everybody. That being said, I love this place!! 18 HD TV's inside makes this a great place to watch Pac 12, SEC or whatever league you desire. The menu is quite extensive for a sports bar with a heavy emphasis on Italian grub, not that it's bad. It's great!! I ordered the Meatball sub and it was delicious. It came on a toasted french roll with marianara and tons of melted mozzarella. I highly recommend it. My sub was accompanied by a generous amount of french fries. The fries were fresh and sliced rather thick, the way i like them. The service here is a bit slow but thats more than likely due to the hordes of college football fans on a busy saturday night. My waitress was friendly and attentive. Overall, you would be hard pressed to find a better beer, grub and football mecca anywhere in West Houston. Give it a try. THE BEST PIZZA IN HOUSTON!!!! And one of the best neighborhood bar, everything is good, the enviroment, the beer, drinks well served, food is fantastic, great attention by the staff, and Nick, I think Nick is a real business man, he enjoys his pub and his guests, keeps the place safe and spotless!!!! I brought my dad on xmas time to watch the game, he doesn't like pizzas, or I should say... He didn't use to like pizzas until he tried Nicks pizza, my dads words were, "I don't like pizza but you can give me this pizza anytime and I will finish it!!! It's delicious!!!! And this bar is great to come and watch the NFL!!! And the pastrami sandwich it's delicious!!! The French fries or as my wife would say... So, we've been back a few more times and I want to update my review with more picks from their menu that you have to try. Still stand by their pizzas. So good! We just tried the Baker Special which is awesome -- quality ingredients and wonderful meaty, cheesy flavor. Don't worry, the dough isn't too gooey, considering they call it a deep dish! We also tried the Chicken Florentine which was also really good, again very cheesy. We also got the regular Buffalo Wings (based on a recommendation) and they were great. Lastly, the one item on our last order that we thought was just Meh was the Mac & Cheese. We went here last night for the first time, and will definitely be back again! I wasn't a fan of the bruschetta, however, the pizza was a whole different story. Our waiter was super accomodating...and they even have a pretty good wine selection at this place (I'd never guessed!) the Riesling was good, and so was the house white wine. The 4 cheese pizza is amazing. I'd never had ricotta on a 4 cheese, but this is a good new twist. Also, the custom pizza we got with peppers, onions and shrooms was sweet. Great little dive bar with pretty decent food. The pizza is the stand out star with made from scratch crust. Lots of tvs with the sound going so you can watch your sports team. Sunday has $1 mimosas or $8 carafes of mimosas. Clean restrooms and listerine mouth wash to clean up after drinking and dining. read more

Sports bars are a growing chain around the city of Houston because we all love our sports and parties afterward. This is considered my little hang out after a Texans game go to place to get some food. I walked in last week after the game to find a lot of other games on the several TV's they have. You can sit yourself and watch any game you want to. There are slot machines in the back, and there's a really cool drink list that you can browse if you wish. Several beers that one can enjoy on a nice day to watch football. There are usually specials every day of the week, which I find nice. I came in the other day to try the all you can eat spaghetti for $7.99. It's a good deal and we each ate about two plates. I also enjoy how there's several varieties of food to try if one doesn't like pasta. They can have seafood, steak, or even burgers. Something for everyone here to enjoy. If there's a Texans game going on, parking may be a cluster. But any other day it's easy to get to right off of Westheimer. I will go any time I'm hanging out at NRG Stadium after the tailgate party to go try some more pasta and food this menu offers. read more

SPORTS BAR MY A$$. Cool place. Luck is a big factor for your experience. Sometimes the service is great, other time you just want to get up and leave. more often than not, you can't hear anything. People are playing jukebox and it's very loud. If you ask if you can turn the TV sound up, you know, to watch sports, the answer is no, people are listening to music. Nick's is a little piece of Italian American New York and New Jersey in Houston. Lets break down this review by category... Service: The wait staff and bartenders are incredibly attentive and nice. My drink, whether booze or water has never been empty, the food comes fast, and they are fun to talk to. Bri and Wes are my two favorite servers, they have great personalities and will make your experiance here great. 5 stars to the service all day every day. Atmosphere: They have a bar and a patio. Very sportsy with lots of TVs. They have everything running whether baseball, basketball, golf, football or soccer. If its playing, they have it on. The patio is my personal favorite. They have fans and mist running so that its not too hot. There are plenty of tables and good music. 5 stars to atmosphere. Food: One of the most important things is food and you will never be disappointed here. Im from NJ and they serve the ONLY pizza in Houston that I will eat. The Cheesesteak is incredible and so are their entrees. The Italian American food hits the nail on the head and reminds me of home. Their Baked Ziti is also out of this world. The portion size is big and you will likely need to get some to go. The Appetizers are big and filling as well. Try the Stuffed Mushrooms or Mozzarella sticks. Any food you get here is authentic and delicious. Big 5 stars to food! Drinks: The drinks are cheap in price and they DO NOT skimp at all. I come here and get a Rum and Coke and you can always taste the booze. They have a full bar and wide range of liquor and beer. They have several happy hours so come in and have a drink! 5 stars to the drinks! The crowd: During the week before 5pm its pretty quiet. Its good if you want to get in and out. After 5pm any day it gets busy and yet they never falter to deliver great food, drinks and service. There are plenty of regulars and plenty of first timers. 5 stars to the crowd! Nice place to catch a game, stopped in to watch a bruins playoff game and they had it in several TV's. I had the Granato which is a half pound of sausage between two half pound burgers, with peppers/onions/provolone cheese on a ciabatta bun with sun dried tomatoes and pesto. Also got a loaded potato with it and 3 draft beers and it was under $40 (not including tip). A little tough to find and not a lot of parking but enough. Good food, good price, good beer, plenty of sports TV's, nice. read more

Nick's Place is a pretty decent dive bar. Not my fav, but worth a trip if you're in the area. It's tucked away, and very hard to spot from Westheimer. I was invited here by some coworkers one day after work. For my beer drinkers: Nick's doesn't have the most impressive tap selection, but they do offer a few local, seasonal brews (like Saint Arnold's). We ordered a pizza that seemed to come adorned with every ingredient under the sun. It was pretty damn good! It served about 6 people comfortably. Parking here is fickle. I lucked up and found a spot pretty easily, but most of my coworkers were forced to park in the lot across the street (accompanied with a few 'tow zone' signs.) I do like to update reviews of places so fellow Yelpers can see whether things have gotten better or worse. This is one such review. I love that the TVs aren't just set on football and baseball or the usual sporting events. They had enough TVs for soccer, WNBA, golf and even a sports news station on a Sunday during football season. A ticker runs across the wall of sports news. It's a perfect haven for sports fans who don't need their waitresses to be 21 and falling out of their shirts. The waitresses here are funny, competent and on point with service. I don't mind bringing the wife or the kids here. Go on Wednesday for all you can eat spaghetti - $7.99! Check their other daily specials. The food is really good here. Seriously. It's not just all fried bar food. Their pasta is as good as any you will find in the city for that price range. And it comes in HUGE servings. Enough to bring home for another whole meal. Seafood, steaks, pizza, finger food...decent beer selection, full bar. Parking can get tricky during a big game. Kitchen open late.
