A few notes about the decor: It had recently been repainted, and was clean. The service: The wait staff was super friendly and helpful. Food: My husband selected the brisket and pulled pork with Cole slaw. It was served with two BBQ sauces: Sweet and Garlic. Apparently they were both delicious because my husband alternated between the two. He declared the meal delicious and brisket everything it should be. This meal earned them a star. I ordered a waffle. It was not super hot, but it was delicious and the fruit the kinda expected-from-a-diner choices of hardish melons, etc. The butter was delightfully whipped and delicious. Aside from the temperature and mundane fruit, the food was good. I would have given three stars to this restaurant except the service and my husband's meal was so good. We stopped in one morning looking for a good, not fussy breakfast and found that here at Nick's. Delicious french toast, pattie sausage and eggs any way you like. Hubby was excited to find hash and eggs that was also good. We came back a second morning and Chelsea remembered what we had ordered the morning before! Needless to say we made this our breakfast spot during our stay in Sedona. I can't say anything about the lunch or dinner options but breakfast is done right! 5 stars for classic locals diner experience. Plentiful menu. Delicious cinnamon French toast special (better than the waffles, I think), good value for the price. Must try in Sedona if you are down with real people, not plastic people, and simple homey surroundings. So far, even on the weekends, you can get seated quickly (unlike the tourist trap down the street). The waitresses are awesome and remind me of Flo and Alice from Mel's Dinner with tattoos, etc. Our waitress took 6 months off to protest the pipeline... regardless of your politics, that's an intensely committed person. And food wise, just great diner food. Sign says 'where the locals go', and it's true. Our local host sent us here and the couple we were next to have lived her 25 years. Another woman comes here every Saturday and they know she orders lox and bagels every time. The owner is friendly. The prices are reasonable. Full bar. Free parking. We came across this gem of a restaurant while talking a 2-night stay in Cornville about 13 minutes away. You can drive by this restaurant if your not paying attention and there is parking in the front, back and side. We decide to try it for breakfast and it was amazing with good portions but the quality was awesome. I had the Spanish omelette with both red and green sauce...made from scratch and amazing. Wife had an amazing breakfast as well. We also noticed they had bread pudding and since we love that desert we ordered it after breakfast...all we can say is the bread pudding is amazing, best we have had. We liked it so much we came back for a late lunch. I had the brisket and my wife had the rellenos filled with chicken tinga and pork. The whole meal was fantastic and everything was made with quality and pride. We also met Ekin the owner who was friendly, caring and warm. She was very concerned about ensuring we enjoyed the food. We just got home from Sedona today after four days of exploring the area. We had a great time! Unfortunately our breakfast experiences up until our last morning had fallen short of what would be considered reasonable expectations. We had run the gamut of disappointment from bland overpriced food, rude service, limited options, and just plain weirdness. Finally, after what felt like a marathon of terrible breakfasts we stumbled upon Nick's. This place is as good a reason as any to move to Sedona, don't ya think? I mean, do you really need more reasons? In any case, we LOVED it. Little did they know how much we needed a positive breakfast experience to cap off a (mostly) wonderful long weekend. From the moment we crossed the threshold we were greeted and treated like welcome guests. The host, who I think might be the owner, was gracious and kind, seated us at a table and we were offered coffee and drinks within one minute. Awesome!! Our waitress was having a fabulous day and it showed. She was very helpful and a joy to be around. Thank you for that! Now, for breakfast I'm pretty boring. I'm a 2 eggs and toast kind of person. It's amazing how easy this is to do poorly but I don't even venture into fancier territory unless I'm feeling really bold. I guess today was a bold day and I went for a Benedict special, the Gonzo. Why am I so dull when food as good as this is readily available? The answer is to avoid further disappointment of it sucks. Well, it did not suck, it was fantastic. My dining partner had the breakfast burrito and gave it a solid thumbs up, which is pretty high praise from him. Even if this had been our first breakfast restaurant we'd visited in this trip I'd still give this place 5 stars, but I am endlessly thankful that eating at Nicks provided the opportunity to close our trip on such a high note. Margaritas are watery with a sour, without the sweet flavor and bitter without the fun of tequila or reposada as advertised. Guacamole came with very hot chips and frozen guacamole. Asked for another bowl, and they microwaved it instead of obliging. Green chili tamale came with a thimblefull of beef in one and a fold of some meat in the other. Summing up the experience - we saw our server ONCE after our food arrived, and that was to take our dishes and bring us the check. Had she dropped by, my wife would happily have ordered another margarita, and I might have mentioned that I never got the rice and beans listed as coming with my quesadilla - but I did get the sour cream I specifically asked not to get. As for the food, the quesadilla was perhaps the worst I have gotten in a restaurant - there was cheese, but mostly just at the edges and falling out the ends. The chicken was greasy and had some flavor, but it wasn't very good. I ended up smothering it in two servings of salsa. My wife's 'prime rib' was OK, but was very thin - more like a thick roast beef or a thin strip steak. It was tender and not grisly. When the bill arrived, the amounts were correct but they were assigned to the wrong items. The table next to us had similar issues when they checked out, but in their case the $ amounts were wrong. Between the lack of service, missing items, and having to check over the bill due to errors, I cannot recommend Nick's. Update based on owner response: Thanks for the comment, I appreciate you taking time to reply! I wanted to clarify a couple of things: - The server did ask if I wanted the rice and beans, and I said 'yes'. She didn't write anything down when we ordered - but there was only one other active table when we ordered so I didn't worry. Also - the portions are huge! - As for the billing amount, there was a comment about 'having found another one' with regards to incorrect pricing assigned to item buttons on the register, so again I just assumed this was the case. Seeing I was charged an a la carte quesadilla (which I don't recall seeing on the menu) explains the $12 vs $16 - but it doesn't help with the $16 my wife was charged for the prime rib listed at $12 on the specials board. Came here not expecting too much, and what we got was a very special experience. We are from out of town, and we came in with a party of 8. We had gone to other restaurants days before and the experience at other places was rather frustrating. Earlier in the week we went to high traffic, touristy areas. This was just in town not too far from where we were staying. Found parking instantly. No wait time and was sat right away with our party of 8. Our waitress (I'm so mad I forgot her name) sweetest woman ever. My one year old son was soooo mesmerized by her. He kept eyeing her and looking for her. Everyone pretty much got something different and we were all pretty happy with the taste of our dishes. I dabbled into my sons fries and their fries are nice and crispy. I had a shrimp quesadilla and the shrimp didn't taste gummy or anything. I thought it was just right. I also recommend the Sedona Palmer. It was just right. Not too strong and not too watered down (unless you wait too long to drink it) my family got diff types of bbq and their plates were cleaned. We also dabbed into their house made pies. Some got the key lime one the carrot cake, one chocolate. I really like the tart and sweetness of the key lime as it was just the right amount of each. The chocolate was my daughters pick. I'm not too much of a fan but it was just ok. My mother in law got the carrot cake and she said it was the best carrot cake she's had at a restaurant. Overall, I felt like everyone there was very attentive. A guy would check every few minutes for water refills (such a bonus in my book) another lady that was the owner was super friendly and would play with my son. Even the people that were there dining were sooo nice and would entertain my son who was waving at everyone. No one seemed bothered when my son would say hi to them or want to high 5 them. Random people were so friendly. This place had a very quaint, small town, home-y touch. I ordered the huevos rancheros with Christmas chilies. The eggs were cooked great and I wanted to lick the plate clean but I refrained. Husband enjoyed his Mexican pizza and it was plenty to share. This place is mediocre. Very quant, nice staff but the food was bland. The tamale was mostly dough with old chicken and the rice was also old and hard. The waitress raived about the in house made salsas and sauces. But definitely made out of a can. The red sauce was stale and the green sauce was mostly vinegar and seeds. The in house smoked meet wasn't as tender "and falling off the bones" as advertised and lacked that smoky flavor. The chilli rellano was the best part, had no spice but the meat was better and the cheese made it better. So all in all, if you like bland over priced food; not worth $$$. read more

We've had amazing food in Sedona, and we thought we'd try a more low-key, local place. This was a bad idea! After we were seated, and all of us noticed a fishy smell. It was sort of body-odor/fishy. We should have left then! Service was ok, but the food was not! Our salads were just sad - less fresh than you can find at Wendy's. My son ordered a burger, and didn't finish it because the cheese tasted like it had gone bad, and it was overcooked. My husband and I split a meat platter - brisket and chicken, which were both dry and overcooked. My 11-year old was the only happy one - she ordered a bagel and cream cheese and hash browns! :) Normally I'd send food back that wasn't good, but we honestly didn't want to try anything else, and just wanted to get out of there. Chorizo with eggs were fine - plentiful sausage, not very spicy - but the side of black beans (option instead of potatoes) were excellent and the flour tortilla real, piping hot and superb! Salsa was included and also great. Nice side of lettuce and tomatoes which I didn't know I wanted but good addition. Best prices I've seen in Sedona and lots of breakfast choices. We met some friends who chose this place to fuel up before a mountain bike ride. The food was alright but the portions were generous so it served its purpose. The hash browns were barely cooked and seem to be the pre-bought kind. They were actually sort of dry. The brisket was tender and they smile it there but there wasn't much smoke flavor. The cinnamon roll was great but I love really sweet desserts so be warned that it will make your jaw ache. Our server was thorough and friendly. The folks at Nick's were wonderful. We parked at the bar after a hard afternoon and were treated to great food, cold drinks and welcome company. The burger I had was delicious, without any frills, but worth every penny. We returned the next morning for breakfast and had an equally tasty breakfast, along with the only good iced tea we'd had the entire 4 days we spent in Sedona. They were all a little dry, but the coleslaw and black beans were very good. Overall I give it a 4 for being locally owned, huge portions for cost (two meals in one), and fast service. Honestly we were super excited to try this place. It looked good and the prices were good especially cause we had our kids. The customer service was not very good, razaman or whatever his name was seemed like he was avoiding really helping us, seemed like us bringing the kids was an annoyance to him. They were not even busy. The food was just okay. When we got our ticket we paid then asked for a breakdown of the charges because it seemed a little high. He got an attitude about it handed it to me and walked to the back and never came back out. They add a 20% service charge which was an extra $20 and that does not include the tip. Overall just disappointed in the whole experience when we were very hopeful we found a new place to try as we come to Sedona often. read more

Unfortunately it was not the best experience, my partner and I have been here before and have enjoyed it in the past. We decided to come in again after a while and it's just not what we remembered. Our food came out extremely cold. French toast was barely dipped in egg, so it was just bread. Not to mention I ordered the regular French toast and it came out cinnamon swirl. My partner and I were out of water and never received a single water refill. Server/owner is nice which is why I gave at least two stars, but needs help.
