I will start off by saying that the food was really good. We got the two pizzas and they were amazing - albeit overly priced! However, what stood out the most was their ordering system. You have to wait in line for a long time, order your food FIRST and then sit at a table. There's also no table service but you are charged an 18% fee when ordering. Also, I definitely do not recommend going with a group as there's no way to anticipate how busy it will be until you get there. We went on a Monday and it took well over an hour before we even ordered, then an additional 30 minutes to get our food after being seated (all arriving at different times sporadically). Perhaps it was our mistake for going during the holidays, but multiple people in our group commented on how rude and unpleasant the bartenders were - it was very obvious. The holiday themed drinks were also insanely overpriced. I may try and go back at a different time of the year, but would never recommend anybody go there during Christmas time, no matter how festive the decor is. read more

COVID UPDATE: I ate dinner at Nicky's with my mom and husband this past week, and we had a great meal. You order when you walk in (where the hostess stand was before), and then choose your own table where you place your number so they can bring you your food. There are a few tables on the patio outside and about six or seven tables inside (very spaced out). The servers wore masks throughout. Our food was great (we shared two salads, one pizza, and one pasta); I really appreciated that they now have a vegan pizza option for my vegan mom. And the real kicker? The vegan pizza was actually good - not yucky plasticky vegan cheese at this restaurant! We really enjoyed our meal. I've been to Nicky's several times. I LOVE their pizza crust. LOVE. You can't get that pizza crust without a really good pizza oven - which they have - and I love to put those pizzas in and then take them out. I prefer their white pizzas, because I have always found their red sauce a little watery and underseasoned. But it's all about that crust! They also have great pasta dishes (they usually have three or four options on the menu which change frequently/seasonally) and great starters (charcuterie and small plates) - as well as great wine and cocktails. The dining room is simple and attractive - minimalist and a little rustic. The service is always great. And I love the location (a great restaurant in less touristy part of town? SOLD) and the easy parking (we've never had an issue). Overall, it's a solid choice for a meal in Nashville if you love Italian food. Overall yummy food and a great atmosphere. read more

Had a later lunch here on a lazy Sunday. Ordered at the front and sat inside as tables were COVID appropriately spaced for sure. Only down side was the flies, we were batting them away from our meal the entire time. The guy at the front could not have been nicer, great service. I had the spiral pasta with meatballs and my husband had a cheese pizza that was on happy hour special. The pasta was good, although my favorite part was dipping his crust in the sauce and shoveling it greedily into my mouth. Had a draft cider that was very flat and not great. Don't sleep on the bagels! We love Nicky's for dinner, but today was our first time trying the weekend bagel shop. The bagels are SO GOOD. I can't believe we waited this long to try them. You can taste the sourdough, and the texture is just right... unlike the "bagel shaped bread" that you get at chain bakeries like P&*#$a, etc. We got 1/2 dozen + cream cheese to go, but you can also eat in and get breakfast sandwiches, etc. My favorite bagel in Nashville. read more

We went this year during the Christmas lights inside. We did have to wait about 30 minutes or so but we also were able to order drinks in line and let me tell you the Frozen Eggnog was killer. We ordered Focaccia bread which was great and I ordered a gluten free pizza which was very good and spicy and my wife ordered a Margarita Pizza. All in all we really enjoyed it and heard there usually isn't a crazy line outside of the Christmas lights but even so we would definitely go back. read more

Nicky's is such a warm and inviting place, not to mention all of the great food! The brick interior makes this place have the greatest vibe and greatest place to get pizza. We went during the holidays where they had a Christmas pop-up, and we got some of the best holiday drinks. One was a Gingerbread old fashioned and one was a cranberry vodka (using local vodka from Memphis). The decorations and their dedication shows the type of fun people that run this place! Even if you can't find a place in the lot, there is plenty of street parking nearby. I want to come back here and try some of the bagels they cook in the pizza ovens. Red wine risotto. I have been dreaming about it since leaving Nashville 3-weeks ago. No joke. Yes, this is a pizza shop but the appetizers and pastas are the real show stopper here. The Fuji apple salad was a real treat and had so much acid from the apples and vinaigrette, creaminess from the cheese and texture from the pumpkin seeds. It was perfectly bright and balanced. Next came the red wine risotto. It was a bowl of magic filled with creamy risotto, crisp bites of pancetta and smooth trumpet mushrooms. The dish was piping hot when it was served but I couldn't wait to let it cool. It was SO good and I've tried recreating it at home but failed. We ordered the Nicky's Supreme pizza which was very good and had a nice chew to the crust but that risotto... Their drinks are unique and strong, the kitchen is fun to watch and the ambiance is lively and welcoming. Bring a crowd and don't share your risotto! read more

First time to check this place out. I'll state up front I am not a fan of this business model that so many restaurants are using. Get in line for 20 mins., order your food and a beverage, pay, find a seat and put out you table number. 20 minutes later your drink is gone and you don't have a waitperson so you have to go figure out where to get another drink and pay again. Wait 20-30 mins your food comes, you eat and go. Unless you want another drink which means you get up find someone to take your order and pay again. Oh wait you want dessert now or to order something else, well get back in line (and it was long last night!) and order it! Pizza was good, salad was good. But too expensive for what you get - nearly $25 each to split a pizza and a salad, one beer and a soda. Only way i can figure is they automatically add 20% gratuity without your approval. I even said '$25 bucks for half a pizza and half a salad?' and she said yes ma'am. No itemized check. Won't go back. Parking is difficult too. read more

We went to the Christmas pop up, and it was so much fun. The decor was beyond amazing. So many beautiful lights and lots of photo ops. I cannot even express how wonderful the frozen eggnog was! I have never had frozen eggnog. They even had Christmas tree pasta. Oh, and the cheesy bread was to die for. There was a long line, but it is the holidays, and it moved quickly. Not only is the pizza and pasta amazing, the service is above and beyond. In the current social distancing situation I ordered to go because I still want to support local business. They let me pay over the phone and offered to bring our food out to us. This makes being able to get their food and support them a million times easier and safer for everyone. Sigh... I really wanted to like this place. I've heard many people say Nicky's has some bomb pizza, plus it's coal-fired, which I usually really like. We came here on Saturday morning for brunch and our server was really nice; if I remember right, I think he was the manager/owner so he made sure that he did a great job serving us (props to him for being so cooperative with us). I got the Pep It Up A Notch brunch pizza (garlic cream, spinach, mozzarella, and pepperoni) and anxiously waited as Enrico (the oven) started cooking. When it came out, everything looked really good... until I took a slice... I wasn't sure if the garlic cream was too thin for the pizza, Enrico felt under the weather, or maybe it was supposed to be like this for some reason? but all the toppings slid off the slice in a single clean motion, leaving me with a piece of soggy bread and a pile of toppings on the plate. We called the waiter back over to our table and explained what happened as a greasy equivalent of the Chernobyl Meltdown poured from the other slices of pizza on the plate. He said he'd make another one for us and would keep it in the oven a bit longer (which was nice so props to him again for doing that for us) and I asked for a box to just take it home with us. A few minutes later, he put the pizza in the box for us and we paid and left. I had a piece on the way home but honestly, it pretty much turned out the same way but with a more cooked crust. I've worked in the food business for a little bit before, so I totally understand that it could have just been an off day and we just lucked out and came in at a bad time/day. However, after reading some of the other reviews that have had the same problem, it seems like it's a recurring thing that's hit-or-miss. I honestly highly doubt it was anyone's fault, and I don't want this to sound like I'm blaming the people at Nicky's: my theory is that some of the ingredients are just too watery to go on a thinner crust pizza. My husband, son and I went here on Friday night. It is still an order at the counter restaurant "due to Covid" which is a little disappointing since it is such a nice restaurant. However, the building and vibe are really cool. The service (drink refills, taking plates, etc) was really good. The food was extremely delicious. We ordered an the focaccia bread appetizer , a pizza, and tiramisu for dessert. While it was all so delicious, the focaccia was my absolute favorite! So good! I would go back for that in a heartbeat. While the restaurant advertises for a family night, the only reason I'm not giving Nicky's 5 stars is because it isn't what I would consider kid friendly based on the simple fact that they don't have a diaper changing table for babies. We needed to change our sons diaper upon arrival and changing him on the bathroom floor was very disappointing. They do have a tiny/narrow bench that maybe they consider a "changing table". However, our 10 month old is extremely long, so this wouldn't work for us. Plus, even if it would have, your diaper bag and everything else would still have to sit on the ground-yuck. Nicky's Coal Fired and their meatballs are a neighborhood favorite in any season, but being here for their Saint Nicky's pop-up was exactly what the season ordered! We had the Big Italian salad and St. Pasquale pie and it was delicious! Such a savory pizza sauce with a zingy pecorino. The chile flakes were a nice touch and added a little kick to this meal. Our table also loved the Christmas Bolognese. Hot and flavorful, and the tree shaped pasta was fun! Christmas cocktails, top-notch service, a wall adorned with ugly sweaters and all of the twinkly lights and tinsel that my Christmas loving heart desired made trekking out in the 5 degree weather worth every minute! This is one of the best pizza spots in Nashville. I know there are tons of coal fine style joints in this city, but this one takes the cake. The crust is cooked to perfection leaving a little charcoal flavor but still fluffy and not burnt. The pizza topping combos are unique and delicious. While they did have a nice Italian menu with options, they were limited on their deserts and didn't have traditional cannolis. The pistachio was bland. I understood this after we could not get our drinks refilled and were left drinking warm tap water from a shard glass bottle in the table. We ordered garlic cheese bread, salad, and pizza. Salad was great. The garlic bread and pizza were lacking of cheese; it was equivalent to sprinkling Parmesan. Atmosphere was great but not worth a second trip. Nicky's is in a great location in West Nashville near some other fine businesses and it's quite a fun place. The restaurant was packed when we came, but we ended up with the best seat in the house since we got to sit right near the kitchen and got to watch everything getting cooked! We ordered bucatini as well as a margherita pizza with prosciutto, which were both excellent! The bucatini was perfectly cooked and was even better the next day warmed up. Holy (coal) smokes. Nicky's Coal Fired blew my expectations out of the water. I started with some of the focaccia bread -- light, airy, but seasoned perfectly. It was a sign of great things to come. I ordered the relatively standard pepperoni/onion pizza to establish a baseline. The Neapolitan-style crust was thin, crispy in all the right spots but had a soft, puffy outer crust. The best pepperoni -- cured in house -- was some of the best I've ever had in my life. But the cheese and sauce base weren't lost among the action. They contributed a savory creaminess and slight tang that balanced the crust and pepperoni well. The onions were slightly stringy, but I didn't let them slow me down. For dessert, I sampled the caramel sea-salt gelato, which was also incredible. It was a great way to end the meal. Overall, Nicky's was one of the best dining experiences I've had in Nashville. The service is great, the atmosphere is fresh and the food is delicious. What more could I ask for? read more

Went here for brunch. The pizza in a word: crisp. The crust was almost too crisp. Not sure if I've ever had pizza where the thin crust was that crisp. I guess that's what will happen inside a 1000 degree oven. We had the margherita pizza, and the breakfast pizza. I liked the margherita. The breakfast pizza was a bit weird: it has potato on it, and I don't think the potato works. It's a little mushy and mealy at the same time. My suggestion: do crisp potatoes on it, like thin hash browns, or crisped cubes of potato. The donuts with lemon marscapone were decent. Wish the dough was a bit softer and lighter. The breakfast sandwich on brioche was good also. The bacon was nice and crisp, and the brioche was fluffy and light. Service was fine. read more

I love this place, and having it just 5 minutes from home is a gift. The first time I went there I had the focaccia with its AMAZING BUTTER, I still dreaming about. How can the butter taste so damn good? I could eat a whole jar with a spoon (no doubt). I tried one of its red pies, not sure which one, and the dessert of the day were profiteroles with a creamy and tasty fruit sauce, elegant and tasty. Last Sunday I went by myself and I get the pie of the day, a white pie with pears, blue cheese, balsamic sauce and nuts that was delicious! And for dessert I had the dessert of the day, a four layers chocolate cake with citrus, that was amazing too. I love this place because the food is great, and you can eat a whole pizza without that feeling of completely full stomach, the Italian dough is good and light, and the dressing is completely homemade. If you're looking for authentic pizza with a twist of interesting, elevated flavor combos - Nicky's is the place to go. A group of four went for dinner and split two dinners and two appetizers. First, we split the cherry tomato focaccia. We've never gotten a focaccia here we didn't love - they are huge, perfectly salted and usually paired with a unique butter. Next, we got the roasted squash salad with lemon ricotta and thought it was refreshing. For pizzas, we got a the Centrale Pie with ham, sopressata, provolone and olive relish. The other was the Calabrese Hospitality which had nduja salami, peach compote, ricotta and pine nuts. I loved them both but will say half of our table disliked the peach pizza because of the odd flavor combo.
