I grew up in New York on the Lower East Side. As a kid I took it for granted the location of my yoot. The "Belly " of the melting pot. Chinatown, Little Italy to name just a couple. On the corner of Park Row across from City Hall was a Greek Diner with this huge rotisserie in the window selling primarily Gyros. INikos brings me right back to a simpler time when after a night out you can have a delicious hand held meal with your crew. Im so glad they are there. I also hope you know what a Gyro is. Just the other day I offered a neighbor a home made Bialy. He said "what's that?" He Never heard of Kosars !! ? I quickly educated him by giving him a couple of samples of my labor and needless to say he was hooked. We need a Nikos a Kosars etc. in every city. The food is still great, and the service good. The place is clean too. The experience Monday - Friday has always been excellent. The owner and the lady that works with him are efficient and work great. But the weekend is a different story. It's unfortunate that the younger staff doesn't carry on the level of service that is synonymous with the place. I'm not sure that we were billed the right amount, but I wasnt paying so I couldn't say for sure. However, we have paid less for more food. One of the tables that were there before us had to complain about waiting for their food and were about to leave. Someone else did. The staff took long to take the order. And the AC wasn't working - or of much comfort if it was on at all. I really do love the place and recommend it. But if you want service on the weekend, it is better if you take it to go. read more

I love going here. Niko is so nice and the food is excellent. He has listened to my little suggestions like..."hey, we need Tyropita"..and so he had his wife make the cheese pie I love so much. The old owner was amazing (the bald guy, for reference). The food was always amazing, service was impeccable and everyone was super happy. The new owner is a jerk. He is the older guy that runs the register. We went in with about a half hour til closing and could tell he was annoyed. He prepped our order like it was to go until we said we wanted to stay. When he brought the food over, he practically threw the plates at us. If the food was garbage, I would say so; its actually quite good. I could definitely go with less onions and more sauce however. Not sure if we will go back after the plate of disgusting attitude though. read more

Excellent lunch today and every time we have been here. Came with my daughter, parents and brother today for some much needed gyro. Service is fast and friendly, food is tasty and in good portion. The space is BEAUTIFULLY painted with Greek landscapes on the walls. This isn't a fancy Greek place, this is your spot for no frills authentic Greek comfort food. Daughter enjoyed the avgolemono soup and now that she is on a bread kick, the server kept bringing endless pita for her which she joyfully dipped into her soup. The adults shared the saganaki balls which were hot, crispy outside and gooey inside, a nice squeeze of lemon on top made it delectable. My brother and I each had gyros with grilled onion and made short work of them. Gyro meat was seasoned well, and all vegetables were fresh. Parents shared a lamb souvlaki and they are still talking about it 8 hours later. Lamb was cooked to the desired temperature, rice in the plate was seasoned ideally. It's easy to miss this spot tucked between the Christmas tree shop and Barnes and Noble, so hunt for it and have a nice meal here. read more

Awesome place for lunch or a quick dinner. A lot of people seem to complain about the price or portions. Niko's is more than fine on both. Veggies are always fresh, bread and meats are always tasty and when you take into account the cost of running a proper kitchen such as theirs, yeah- you're not gonna be paying McDonald's prices. A hidden gem in Danbury, disguised by the strip mall atmosphere. Delicious food and generous portions at decent prices. Owner came by several times as did the entire staff to check on us. The food to me tasted very basic. Not to much flavor on the chicken. The chicken was cut in pretty big chunks and some pieces were a bit dry. I may have liked it a little more if the sauce wasn't cucumber base because I don't like cucumber but that is just my preference. The pita bread was good, nice and soft. This is a nice little restaurant in the Danbury shopping mall complex (or nearby). The staff of friendly - and it seems like a place that has a solid local following. My work colleague and I each had the Greek salad with Gyro. To my surprise, the salad had two pieces of Dolma (rolled grape leaves) in it - and it was excellent. I also had some pita bread and a side of hummus. Everything was excellent, the service was good, the food was delicious and the price was right. If in the area again, i will be back. read more

Always in the search for gyros that can meet the New York street standards. Unfortunately, theirs didn't. It was just alright at best. Also tried the Balboa sandwich, which sounded great on paper (Grilled roast beef, melted mozzarella, toasted garlic bread, salt & pepper) but was worse than what I could make at home. It wasn't really garlic bread, just whatever bread you pick and then they apply some garlic to it. The bread was warm but everything inside it was jarringly cold. It was definitely not a sandwich worth 7 dollars. At the end, the amount I paid did not equate the quantity or quality of the food I had. Maybe it was their off day, but that's enough for me to never pay them a second visit. I actually left the establishment, not satisfied and content, but angry, because I felt like I had just wasted good money that could have been used for anything else. Wow we're we disappointed! The core ingredient of the salads were wilted bagged romaine lettuce and despite being listed as roasted vegetables in one salad they were right out of the can! The lamb was as tough as shoe leather but probably not as tasty. Lucky for the baked pita chips - the best part of a $50 meal. Agave's loss was Niko's gain in this case. I had taken the train up from NYC for a few hours to meet my dad; we were doing some Christmas shopping for my mom at Best Buy. Before heading back to catch the next NYC-bound train in Brewster, we decided to get some lunch. We swung by the mall, hoping to find a good bite to eat. Agave came up on my Yelp app, and we decided Mexican sounded wonderful! It was 11:50 a.m.; Agave opened at 11:30, according to the app. We get to the front door, which had a glowing "OPEN" sign and a sign on the door stating that it actually opened on 10:30 on Mondays. Even better! I excitedly pulled on the door...and it was locked! We looked inside of the windows. The lights were on. People were in the back. The "OPEN" sign was still glowing. Suddenly, Greek sounded much more appealing than Mexican as our eyes glanced across the small shopping plaza. We entered this very lovely and homey sit-down Greek spot and received service immediately. I'm a big Chicken Souvlaki gal, so I got that and some chips; my father followed suit, never having tried Chicken Souvlaki. You can sit down wherever, and the food is brought to you. When my dad got up to get some more napkins after realizing how sloppy tzatziki sauce can be, the friendly gentleman behind the counter (who I like to assume is Niko himself), walked over and gave my dad the whole entire napkin dispenser from another table; he told us to keep it because it looked like my dad would need it. Ha! The Chicken Souvlaki was tender, loaded with vegetables, and was almost drowning in a wonderfully sloppy portion of tzatziki. HEAVENLY. Man, I wish I could have stayed for longer and even some more, but that 1:17 p.m. train back to NYC was calling my name. Niko's is a solid spot for a great lunch. Should I ever end back up in Danbury anytime soon, I'd swing in in a heartbeat. read more

My first experience here was with the fried pita chips with tzatziki (or however you spell it) sauce. The pita chips come out piping hot and the sauce is marvelous. Next time it was a souvlaki. Just freakin' delish. Just to try it, I had some of their homemade hummus. No doubt that it was home made but to me it lacked the flavor I was expecting from home made hummus. This place has become my favorite lunch-dinner spot since I started working in the Danbury area. The owner (Niko) is super friendly and provides great service. The food is AUTHENTIC Greek, you can even see the gyro grilling from the counter. Prices are great too especially for something to grab and go. They've got a huge selection of foods, AND they just put up a wide screen TV (that's almost always set to ESPN). On our way back home we stopped at the Christmas Tree Shop and we saw Nikos Grill. We had a ferry to catch and we grabbed a quick bite. What a great place. The Mega fries and Greek Nachos were fantastic as was the entire meal. Niko and staff are friendly and sweet. What a friendly owner and the place is kept so clean. The kitchen is exposed for customers to see and everything is kept so clean. The food is amazing. I had a gyro and it was delicious. So fresh. My sister and I were visiting our parents this weekend for my sister's final dress fitting at David's Bridal, and between the four of us, we made three separate trips to Nikos. First me, for ice coffee- then my dad, also for ice coffee... it was good! Hit the spot in a pinch. We had some time to kill before my sister's fitting, so we went to the Christmas Tree Shop. On our way out, one of the Nikos employees was holding a tray of meat samples... my sister and I both tried the chicken dipped in tzatziki sauce... and immediately decided gyros were for lunch! We were NOT let down. Everything was delicious. My mom ordered a spicy burger and said it was one of the best she's had in a long time. My dad, sis and I all got the chicken gyros with extra feta. They had fries and I had onion rings... the portion size was on point, and the batter that they fried their onion rings and fries in was delicious- you could tell the oil was fresh and well seasoned. They even have their fountain sodas down to a science- the soda/syrup ratio was PERFECT. Our waitress- a young woman- was very nice and attentive. Food came out quickly. My parents asked me to write this review- they will be back!! And, next time my sister and I are in town from Boston, we'll also stop by! What an unexpected treat. If you like gyros and falafels, this is the place for you! I stopped in for a falafel and it was one of the best I've ever tasted! The food here is delicious! There was another couple in a corner from Brooklyn and they were raving too! The atmosphere is casual - you order at the counter and wait at your table for the food to be brought to you. Paper placemats, no frills, but who cares when the food is this good. Highly recommend! You can even have a glass of wine if you want. I'm glad this place opened up down the street from me. The area needed some Greek food action, and Niko's provides a great option. Generous serving sizes; An excellent helping of their tzatziki sauce on all their orders; Friendly and helpful staff behind the counter; Prices seem reasonable, although I'm unsure what the going rate of Greek take-out is nowadays. One critique I have is about their Greek burger. Meat was a little dry. Seems like they're forcing the issue, trying to mix American with Greek cuisine. Makes me hesitate in ordering their other hybrid entrees, although my sample size of one is not fair - should try a few more soon. Their pure Greek offerings, like gyros, souvlaki, and baklava are on the money and delicious. I'm a returning customer definitely. Yesterday, I found myself out with my Wife and Daughter. We decided to try Nikos for the very first time. We walked into the very busy restaurant and were met by the owner himself. He immediately cleared a table for us, himself. We ordered an order of "Mega Fries" for the table and each of us ordered a gyro. The food was hot and the portions were more than expected. One previous reviewer mentioned the portions were "small". I found this to definitely not be the case. Everything was prepared correctly and the Tzatziki was super fresh and flavorful. I enjoy Greek food very much. This trip was well worth it. Excellent food and service, decent portions, great deal overall. What else could anyone want? read more

As far as gyros are concerned, nikos serves gyros. If I were writing a tag line for nikos, it might say something like "Niko's- Gyros are available for purchase here in exchange for money." And no one would ever say to their friend "For Pete's sake, Niko's.. That's false advertising!" The location may make you second guess it but the food here is very good, fast and consistent. I'd bring anyone here if they were within a reasonable distance and had a hankering for a gyro, and you can take that statement RIGHT to the bank. read more

I love this place - Nikos reminds me of home - Astoria Queens, aka Greekville. We moved up to Danbury last year & my culinary experiences up here are 50/50. Nikos is is the 100% awesome category. I had some local Greek food at a place that will remain nameless ...travesty. Then we found this place - thank you Yelpers. Their souvlaki & gyros are on point, stuffed grape leaves are good, pita is always fresh and delicious & fries are yummy too. My experiences w/the service is always excellent - helpful, patient and very nice. To those who whine about the portions - seriously!? The portions are moderate not excessive - but always filling.
