Wow, a rare find. Like another reviewer, I walked in without a clue or even how to pronounce gyros (the g is silent I was coached). The special was halibut gyros and boy were they amazing. Lots of fresh fish, Greek spices, served up by kind people. A photo of Grandfather greets you above the door and on the specially bottled (a 90th birthday!) Greek dressing for sale. There are other yummy Greek specialty foods in an adjacent space that you can select and add to your order while you wait- the dried pasta is amazing. First time here since visiting from Hawaii. I honestly have never tried Greek or would think about trying it. My family who lives in magnolia come here often and I'm told this place is a favorite in the town. I had a chicken gyro which was simple yet amazingly satisfying with feta cheese and taziki sauce. You have your usual lettuce and tomatoes in A pita bread. The chicken were these interesting patties which tasted great. This seemed like a family owned shop. Been here a ton because it's right across the street from my work and it's nice to have a dependable place for a quick and good lunch. I typically get the gyro plate, Greek salad, or the traditional gyro depending on how hungry I am or what I'm feeling and have never had a bad meal. This was my first time getting the lamb burger and I would definitely recommend it. It was juicy and felt like it was made from scratch-not sure though. We also had the gyro salad and it was a nice portion of meat and had fresh lettuce and vegetables. The olives and pepper were also tasty and felt fresh too. In addition to the good food, nikos has a limited but nice outdoor seating area which added to the good experience. It was nice to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine and Main Street part of Magnolia. Finally, the service was great. The employees are always friendly and quick to answer any questions I've had. Would 100% recommend for a quick and satisfying bite to eat! read more

First time visit to this place and it made all my gyro dreams come true. I ordered the traditional gyro, Greek fries, baklava and rice pudding. The gyro was one of the most flavorful ones I've ever had, and their Greek (waffle cut) fries were crisp and expertly seasoned. My kids gobbled them up despite not liking feta cheese in other dishes. It tasted a little bit like fish taco, but packed with mediterrinian flavors instead. Pita breads were chewy and tzatki was heavenly. The chicken souvlaki entre came with side of greek salad and pita bread, and halibut gyro came with a choice between rice and fries. The foods come out very quickly, Great for take out as well! A great Magnolia institution. If you do not believe that statement, then try getting a seat around 5:30 on most week nights. They have their own spin on the traditional Gyros and they're very good. This is a low-key Greek place in Magnolia with a few outside picnic tables and plenty of seats inside. The food was flavourful but salty. I ordered the gyro platter and was surprised to see that weirdly shaped pre-sliced meat. I prefer it when it's carved off the slowly rotating shank of pressed meat! I also didn't care for the hummus because it was on the runnier side and too garlicky. And I love garlic! Bathrooms were clean with friendly counter help. I doubt I'd return for their gyros, maybe to give them another chance on some souvlaki or something. Other Yelpers seem to rave about them... Overall the dishes were competently made but I couldn't give four stars because of the liquidy hummus + sausagey slices of gyro. read more

One of the best hole in the wall type places we have been to. You get that home type feel like your mama is cooking for you. Traditional gyro was great! Not over flavored and very fresh produce in it. My wife had the briam and it was great. It is a potato, eggplant and pepper dish with Greek fries. Tons of flavor and the fries seasoning was great. There aren't very many good Greek places that I've found in the Seattle area but this place is fantastic. It was recommended to me by a friend and definitely worth a trip to magnolia for. The cafe is small with quite a few tables both inside and outside. It's clean and busy. The menu on the board is clear and the staff expects you to order fast and move on to the next person. There are no fountain drinks, grab from the cooler or grab a pitcher of water nearby. The food is fantastic. It's served quickly from the kitchen you can see. It's fresh tasting and delicious. I had a traditional gyro which is lamb and beef. The pita is soft and the feta fresh. We also ordered fries with feta and they were waffle fries which are arguably the best type of fry. Because I love Greek food I had to try the spanakopita. Delicious!! I will definitely go back when I'm in the neighborhood. Worth a trip for sure!!! read more

My friend and I stopped here on the way to Discovery Park. We hadn't been to either destination before, and we were in for a treat. I love the atmosphere here: the family running the restaurant and the sitting area itself reminded me of My Big Fat Greek Wedding--if not in aesthetics, then in the warm feeling you get when you chow down here. We both got gyros, which were very reasonably priced and portioned for our upcoming hike. The amount of meat in the gyros was a little less than what we're used to in the U-District, but the delicious tzatziki sauce made up for the missing flavor. We smiled to ourselves when a man at the adjacent table introduced "our new au pair from Colombia" to a friend. Oh, Magnolia. Good restaurant, nothing pretentious, good food. I order often at Niko's and I like I can call in for my order and just show up in 15 min to pick it up. Their food is typical for this type of place. This is not an elegant restaurant if that's what you are looking for. If you eat there the server will bring your order, but that's the end of the "service" part (you get your water for example). This is okay - the place is priced this way (being in Magnolia it is not cheap). It's good if you live in Magnolia being conveniently closed. My kids love the fries and we all like the pita bread with their tzatziki sauce. I'm okay with the gyros: they are good but don't expect to be blown away. I am new to Seattle so not aware of the institutional following of Niko's. I know it is family owned and operated and has been in business for decades but that doesn't sway my review. Niko's offers your average Greek and Mediterranean fare, nothing unique or truly exceptional about it. They have all the staples and have a very warm and busy atmosphere. The food leaves something to be desired and even though I have a few friends that are devoted to the gyro I find the meat quality subpar. This is a small family restaurant, with great food and a a neighborhood atmosphere. I particularly like the chicken souvlaki platter -- the chicken is juicy and tasty, and the greek fries with feta are what they do best. Traditional gyros are good, as is the avgolemono soup and the baklava. Above all, this is a high quality place for cheap eats. It's also one of the best Greek places in town. It is kid and family friendly, and good for dogs too (a dog water bowl outside, a couple of picnic tables outside too, places to tie up your pet). I go back to Nikos again and again - and we live in Madrona, so it's quite a trip over there. read more

I'll have to echo everyone's voices about this place. I came yesterday when the sun was outside, and it was the perfect day to get a gyro outside. They have outdoor sitting which is great on a warm summery day. I decided to go with the traditional gyro, with feta, and it was delicious. I must say on my first bite, i missed the meat all together, but the balance of veggies, sauce, and feta was amazing. My only regret is that I ate it too quickly.
