    Almond croissant and cinnamon bun.
    Charles L.

I stopped in for breakfast at the ninth Street bakery on a cold, rainy and sleeting morning. The space is really interesting, a large indoor working bakery. The patio for seating people outside is very nice in an urban setting. I tried three things, almond croissant, glazed cinnamon bun, and cranberry orange muffin. The croissant was nice, but not as crispy as it might be. The Cinnamon bun was nice, but there was a lot of glaze on the top. The cranberry orange muffin was excellent. Service is really good.

i came here early this morning on a whim, as i happened to be in the area. i was greeted immediately by two friendly faces who were more than willing to be patient with me while i perused the options. they helped me on my journey to choosing a blueberry danish which made my taste buds SING. on top of everything, this place is just CUTIE and i really want to come back next time im in the area. i think next time ill try the scones or the ham and cheese croissant. with a sourdough loaf for later ;) the bakers who helped me at the register did say they get pretty busy around lunchtime, just fyi for those reading!

Great experience, friendly staff. The ambiance on the outdoor patio was just what I was looking for.

Ninth Street Bakery has great quality breads and pastries. They have a $3 day old shelf that is often filled with sliced bread, brioche, cookies, and muffins. I love swinging by on a work day to get a treat. Pictured below: olive rosemary sliced bread.

Absolutely freakin' fantastic bread at a fair price. And in honor of Pride Month, they even flour stenciled some of the loaves with LGBTQ+ lettering. How thoughtful and supportive is that? The loaf we got was one of the best loaves of bread I've ever eaten. It toasted so well with a crispy crust but still hearty, bready inside. Great with just butter, or butter and cheese or charcuterie. All I can say is I'm actually glad this place is in Durham rather than Asheville, or I'd be eating basically nothing but their bread. P.S. It smells great if you even just walk by this place.

Cool spot to sit and watch the operation.

They have packages of napkins and utensils, available near the door, and also complementary water on the inside while you're in line there. All the orders are to go, but they do have a couple picnic tables just outside. I ordered two sandwiches, one hot and one cold. The cold one for tomorrow. Both of them had an asterisk beside them saying they were spicy, imagine that. I got a full size chopped cheese which comes in a hoagie roll. It was delicious and nicely spicy. Perfect for lunch and dinner. The cold sandwich I got was the roast turkey. It was very tasty too, I'm almost tempted to say I liked it better. Now that I've tasted their sandwiches I know why there was a line.

As you enter there is a sign that tells you to go look at the menu board, pick out your drink, and go back to the counter to order. I grabbed a diet coke, and ordered a Common Cobb. I was a bit surprise when my total came to $18, as my salad was only $14 but I guess I should have paid attention that my bottle of soda was over $3. How much are the fountain drinks, I wonder? I found us a table inside since it was a bit hot that day (there is also plenty of seating outside AND inside if you go downstairs). The table and floor were messy but someone quickly came to clean it for me. They called our names over the loudspeaker and my best friend went to go get our food. She got the MotherClucker. Our food was REALLY good. If you like Cobb salad, you will definitely like this one. The chicken was pan seared perfectly, the vinaigrette was perfectly tangy and the bleu cheese was especially excellent. My friend's chicken sandwich has SO MUCH chicken salad on it. Impressive. There was so many neat items to see in the place. The murals were great, there were some cute retail spaces, a coffee bar up front, a bar downstairs, and ice cream outside! Unfortunately my bestie and I had too much to talk about so we didn't check it out as much as I otherwise wood. I would definitely try this place again!

We placed our orders at the counter: - The Jane for me - Pine Street Pimento for my daughter and a bag of chips (salt & vinegar for me) for both! We did the smaller size sandwiches which were still quite large, but we were quite hungry and finished them off. They were so good that I even thought about coming back for lunch the next day, but knew there were plenty of delicious restaurants in the area to try.
