Didn't expect this place to be as cool as it was! We got in pretty early and there was plenty of free lounge space. The DJ was already playing plenty of good tracks, mixing 2000-2010s to current hits (reggaeton, hip hop, etc). He was honestly a star in his own right. The bartenders are also on another level. We came here to celebrate a friends birthday and we were surprised by what a fun table and bottle service experience we had. Last night when I was walking down their flight of stairs from the bookcase entrance. I missed the last step and fell and twisted my ankle because of how pitch black it is leading into the venue. I fell down hard and no employees or bouncers came to my aid which was very surprising. My friends had to wait almost 15 minutes to get ice from the bartender. It is the next morning and I cannot walk or put any pressure on my right ankle. There needs to be proper lighting on the stairs of this place because people can get severely injured. Don't come if you speak Spanish! I was talking to the guy at the entrance in English and he asked for our IDs. I asked my mom in Spanish to show her ID and out of the blue the guy pretended he was taking with someone in his walkie talkie in his ear and the told us they were only letting people with reservations in. It was weird so I waited a little bit after we were told to come back in 40 mins or so. A group of white girls went straight to the entrance and I got close to them so I could see and hear they were just let in without any extra questions other than IDs. It's kind of embarrassing when your visitor finds a better place than you to go to for drinks. I was effectively put in the corner for suggesting a place that turned out to be a bust. We got there basically right before they opened and there was still a crowd. I was already a little antagonistic towards this place. I hate lines, I hate waiting and I hate places that seem to capitalize on both. Also, I didn't get the seemingly arbitrary way people were let in. Didn't they just open? WTF. I won't ruin it for you, but it's a fun way to go into a bar. I was still on the fence, definitely a lot of production value but how are the drinks? I got an Old Fashioned and ok, it was good. It was damn good. No live performance but there was a DJ, even though we sat in the same room he was in, the noise level wasn't so bad that we had to shout. However, as the evening wore on the crowd got a little loud for no reason. It's like going to a frat party behind Hollywood Blvd but there's a gimmicky secret room to go through with a hidden staircase that no fraternity would ever have the money for. Early in the night, it was actually great: cool outdoor space and the bartenders were fantastic both with old classics and improvisational fruity things for my indecisive date. We found a spot to sit easily and after an hour or two melted away in our glasses, this place was packed to the gills, with a DJ running through a Spotify playlist of early 2000s hits, and then a brief burlesque show out on the patio (which while cringe-inducingly soundtracked by Lady Marmalade, was--I'm ashamed to admit--kind of fun. read more

I've been coming to No Vacancy for at least six years. Pre-pandemic, they had always made me feel welcome and I never had any trouble at the door like some claimed, but my most recent experience really made me not want to go back. This review is more of a call for management to improve then it is for Yelpers browsing for advice, but if you want to read the long ordeal, feel free! First, I know to go before 10pm when it gets packed, so I went at 8:30pm for a drink before moving to a second location. One of the doormen who I had never seen before, who I later learned is named Bishop, asked if we had a reservation and I said no. He acted as though he wasn't going to let us in unless we had one. I'd actually reached out to them a few times to inquire about reservations and I never got a response. So it all seems like some classist and discriminatory bullshit if you ask me. Finally after I mentioned I was a regular there before the pandemic and that I never needed a reservation to simply go in for a drink (especially at 8:30pm...) and inquired about David who was the heart and soul of that place prior, and where he was--we were finally let in. But he gave me so much shit, like demanding David's last name. It was just so weird and not welcoming. Steve, who worked behind Bishop, seemed much kinder and gave me what seemed like an apologetic look. Then my friends arrived about 9:15pm, still early and still not super busy, and they were refusing to let them in. Again with the reservation bit... it made no sense so I asked the kind man who took our empty drinks away if he knew why we were getting so much grief at the door when they weren't busy. Plus there were tons of dudes there... why wouldn't you let three beautiful women in? The place needed a balance. So he went to go ask for me what was going on, which I then let my friend know, and apparently she misunderstood and told the door that someone was going to get them. The Bishop got on some control trip stating he is the highest paid person there and no one gets past him. Eventually, after much hassling. they were let in. It honestly makes no sense to me why there is this new, unwelcoming vibe at the door, when before I was always greeted with hugs and smiles. This is no longer the bar I came to know and love. I guess the pandemic gave the location a major shakeup and a new staff. Shout out to the new outdoor bartender Kyle. He had a good personality and was very friendly. Almost made up for the bad door experience. There's also no longer food options here, and they will refuse to give you water (which seems like a major liability but okay) but make you pay $3 for a bottle which is new, and the smoking still allowed is as disgusting as ever. You would think post-height of the pandemic they wouldn't want others to push their potential COVID breath/air around but I guess that's not a concern here. Overall, I'm clearly a bit salty, but it's only because I have been a regular and brought so much business to this place (yes, they do fine without me, but still), never been hassled once, if anything been waved to the front of lines like I was a part of the family--and now I'm being made to feel like I don't belong. That wasn't cool. Perhaps they should have a more efficient way of making reservations if it's that important to them. But even then, they are likely going to demand $700, at least that's what it was pre-pandemic on a weekend for a table. As I left I shouted bye to the haughty gatekeeper. Kill them with kindness--even if he wasn't very kind to me. I am highly doubting this place will ever be as good to me as it was before. I really hope David isn't gone, unless it was his choice, because he really was the best. read more

It felt like traveling in time while finding the right door to take us to the bar. The bartenders were extremely nice and the drinks were amazing!! I've been meaning to check this place out for quite some time. Last time the parking situation on Hollywood Blvd was so bad we decided to just go to another bar instead. This time we were in LA and got to this place before they opened at like 7:50pm. However they made us wait since they didn't have any ice for any drinks and had to go buy some. I believe the people behind this place also owns good times at Davy Wayne's nearby the palladium. It's kinda weird coming here so early since you pretty much get the whole place to yourself. It's actually relaxing and you don't need to fight for the bartender attention. If you know me, you'd know that I have a soft spot for all speakeasy. Bonus points if they have a secret entrance. I go wild for that shit. When we went there was this girl sitting on bed and after she spoke to us the bed split in two and there was a stair case leading down to the bar area. Came here while reuniting with my friends in LA, and we had a reservation for a bridal shower. First impression with the service? Terrible. My friend had to go up to the bouncers and repeatedly tell them that we had a reservation. While we did get in before a some of the crowd waiting outside, I have to say that initial interaction and note of service was bad. Some people even tried to sneak in with our group when we specifically pointed out who was with us to the bouncers. What a mess. As for the entrance beyond the bouncers and line, it was great. I love the surprise and the theme going on as you make your way into the building. I wish there were more speakeasies like this! I won't spoil anything, but let's just say you'll enjoy the warm welcome as you make your way to party. 5/5 for the entrance! As for music and ambience - I wasn't really impressed. We thought it would be like an actual speakeasy, but found ourselves walking into a crowded room playing the most random genres... I'm not sure if it's like this most nights, but the DJ wasn't consistent. Drinks were okay -- the Long Island Iced Tea did the job well. Unfortunately the bartender didn't know what the China Doll was or how to make it, so that was a disappointment since we were excited to try the No Vacancy specialty. Overall, I'd just say this place was alright. Kind of a let down on the first try, but I don't want one night to tarnish any potential future experiences. The cutest Victorian home turned into a speakeasy in the heart of Hollywood. Upon arrival you are greeted by an entrance like no other. Amazing venue and ambiance but the music at the beginning of the night could be better. Next time would not want to wait until 12 to get the good music playing. Absolutely the heck not. Never again in my life. My friend and I came here on a whim one Friday night after a magic show next door. We probably got in in the nick of time since it was a pretty short line and the bouncer let us and a couple of other girls in all at once. The "secret entrance" way was kinda fun, kinda gimmicky. (Ladies, if you're wearing high heels, be careful going down those stairs!) But it led us to a fairly large set of rooms with a lot of seating against the walls and then the outdoor space with more seating. It was pretty mild when we got in there so we ordered a few drinks and wandered around before a table opened up and we sat down at a tall table near a corner. That was our mistake because not even 20 minutes later, I see something move out of the corner of my eye.... Bruh, tell me why I turn to the wall and I see a effing cockroach the size of an index finger right next to my face?? Not going to lie, I screamed a little and abandoned my drink and my friend at the table. (Look, if the cockroach wanted my drink and it could lift my glass (which I am sure it could), I would absolutely let it. Free drink for the cockroach, no problem, lol.) I quickly came back to my senses tho and I went back to grab my drink and my friend who was staring at me in confusion. I took her away about 10 feet before I pointed out the behemoth of an insect slowly crawling its way up the wall and out of hell. She gasped in horror before we both looked at each other and placed our drinks back on the bar top and left to go sit in the car silently for 10 minutes. Needless to say, we went home after to shower and scrub that incident from our mind. Also, the photo booth was not working when we were there and when we left, there was a massive line waiting to get in. Super cool speakeasy! I went to this place twice, and it's definitely a unique experience. The entrance is so fun (I won't spoil it), and the drinks are really good. I watched the bartender make it, and I could tell that he knew how to make a good drink. The place is great for dates or catching up with friends. I would say that there is a bit of mingling but not too much, so make sure you go with a good group of friends. There can be a long wait to get in, depending on the time you arrive. I arrived at 9:30PM before, and there is no wait. I arrived at 11PMish and there was a little bit of a wait. I would recommend to uber/lyft because there is like no parking available. The entrance is fun and once you get inside you're in an old house so it feels like you're at a house party. They have one bar inside and a smaller bar outside. The backyard area is even complete with a fancy fireplace. Drinks were affordable by Hollywood standards, $11 for a Hendrick's and soda. They had a DJ spinning live who dropped an eclectic mix of music from EDM to 90's hits and more. We had a good time here and it would be a cool place to take people from out of town. read more

I was harassed, shoved and called homophobic slurs by a group of men when I confronted them about forcefully cutting me in line at the bar. Cool spot in Hollywood! This is normally a speakeasy but we came for a Fever/Halloween event - Jack and Sally's wedding reception and bottomless sangria! It's been a taxing time during Covid, so it was nice to get out. We got to the place and they were still setting up. People started to line up outside. Took a few minutes to get checked in and seated. Tables were set up outside with Halloween decorations. "Jack" was walking around greeting people, but did not see Sally. The menu included three tacos - one carne asada, chicken and pork. It also came with a small side of rice and beans and one chip. Our ticket also included bottomless sangria. The food was tasty but portions were a bit small. So we added chips and guac to our order. Overall a cool place with cool vibes and nice staff. read more

Had a good experience the first time I was here The second time, last night, these greasy bouncers were wandering around whispering to each other, allowing in random guests that showed up way later than other people, and were sending bottle service girls outside to sell bottles to people in line instead of letting them in first come first serve. If I wanted a bottle I would ask about buying one. I explicitly asked the bouncer in the cheap pea coat if he was going to let me and a couple other people in since we'd been waiting way longer than everyone else. I'd seen two dozen or more people be let in before us even though we'd been there far longer. I get that some people know the DJ, have tables, etc. but they were not letting anyone else in at all. The bouncer literally told me he wasn't gonna let me in because I declined to buy a bottle with only one hour remaining in the evening. A bottle that was only offered to me 30 minutes after i was already the first person in line. This place literally felt like a high school popularity contest, bouncers whispering to each other and letting their little friends in while everyone else who was patiently waiting got the cold shoulder. The bar and entrance are cute but it's been overrun by so many early twenties guys that it is literally not fun as a woman to be here anymore. I have been going out in Los Angeles for a while now and I have never experienced a man shoving me as hard as he could with both hands on purpose because he felt like I was "cutting at the bar". And security did nothing. This is a place for children. I was genuinely disgusted. Also the DJ is usually pretty ass but it fits the clientele I suppose. Attended this venue as a wedding guest and it seems my experience is pretty different from other reviewers! The space is small, but that comes with the territory when you convert a house to a venue. It was tough to fit even the smallish guest list into the patio area and I had to stand for the ceremony. There was also a set of dumpsters right next to the entrance, and dumpster water flowing all over the entrance, so I at first thought I was in the wrong place. Another bummer was the photobooth did not work and emailed me a picture of just darkness, lol. Other than those, I thought this was very charming and unique for a wedding.
