Incredible rude bouncers. Waited forever to get in, when we finally got in they just let two of us in (my girlfriend and I) they didn't let my boyfriend and the rest of our friends in. They waited another million years and they never made it. Even thou they were right behind us and we were in the same group. So we ended up leaving. Add to this that the security guy screamed at my face when I asked him to let me go check on my friends and ask him why they didn't let them in yet since we were together in the line. The wow-factor of No Vacancy is a rope that wears thin, just like my patience trying to get into the place time after time. I understand this is a Houston Brothers speakeasy (and I like a lot of their portfolio), but this one just falls flat for me, and it tries too hard for me to sympathize. Let's start with the queue. You ever seen "On the Waterfront"? The line outside reminds me of the recruitment at the docks from that movie. Everyone mobs the rope, which separates the lucky groups with more women than men (or some cool hard cash) a from the groups with less women than men. The bouncers are patient, sure, but they also assure people that they can get in "next time they come around" and then never follow up or follow-through. They're the proverbial "noncommital nice guys." Here's a wild idea: make a line like every other exclusive place in LA and charge cover if the line starts getting too long. The Victorian-styled establishment looks like the abode from the Fall of the House of Usher. It's foreboding, with a nice backyard area and never enough room to turn around without bumping into someone's shoulder. The music inside is good most of the time, sometimes it's horrible. The show outside is usually at 11:30(?) so show up early if you want to see a typical Houston Brothers spectacular. There are so many better places to go in LA, I don't know why people come here. What a lowkey hidden space! The concept was so cool and it's a very chill place to have drinks with friends and just vibe. They don't have a drink menu which was kind of inconvenient when you don't really know what you want to drink- but the bartender apparently knows whatever you want! One of the coolest bars in Los Angeles. The entrance alone is worth the visit, but I won't ruin the surprise. Do be prepared to wait, and I'd recommend showing up with an even ratio of guys and girls, but they'll let couples and mixed groups in pretty quickly if you're dressed right and seem like you belong. Once you're inside they do a great job recreating the speakeasy vibe, and the bartenders are excellent. For a relatively upscale and trendy bar, prices are fair. Every cocktail my group had was $13-16 so pretty much the going rate. Drinks were also poured strong and quickly, despite the fact that it is usually absolutely packed on Fridays and Saturdays. Do be prepared to fight your way to the front. Pro tip: get there early (like 10-10:30), as it's a very late night spot. You can usually nab a table for free before it starts to fill up around 11. They might ask you to move if someone bought the table, but if not I've been able to just chill there with no issue -- and no bottle service charge. read more

My friend and I got here around 8:30 PM on a Friday night so the place was fairly empty but the place start quickly filling up past 9. Absolutely loved the decor of the place and it kind has haunted mansion vibes. Only con here is that the restroom is tiny. I'll be honest - this is a 5 star place if you want to come here for the environment and the opportunity to hangout with a few friends/meet people, but I think any establishment that brands itself with prohibition or speakeasy aesthetics should live up to it with the quality of the drinks*. I don't really care much for the speakeasy vibe but I do care for the quality a speakeasy in the 2020s should deliver. I took the challenge of ordering three established speakeasy drinks to guide this review: (1) the bourbon old fashioned, (2) the sidecar and (3) the penicillin. All the drinks were unevenly balanced, often highlighting a flavor that is not traditional in these cocktails. It could be a bartenders preference, but coming from working in a bar - I would just say it's an off night for now? In the end, I think is a great place to hangout and a great vibe - but if you come for the early part of your night, it will not deliver the quality of the drinks you may think it will. read more

That is, a clever speakeasy-like bar filled with great cocktails and a fun, generally primped and well-groomed crowd. The bartenders are busy but fair with their selection of next guest to help, and seem to amazingly remember your drinks in recurring order. The show is sexy, fun and often unexpected by new guests. Hint: if everyone suddenly leaves the bar area, ditch your drink order and follow them outside. Only knock on this place is the long unstructured line to get in, and the refusal of the doormen to let you back in after you run to feed your meter after being there for hours. Came here last night and had a really good time. Pros: - we came at around 11pm and only had to wait in line for about 10 minutes. The line moved pretty quickly though I heard it can get pretty crowded at the entrance at later times. - really fun entryway and speakeasy vibe. The bar is set inside a former hotel (Hotel Jupiter), which was originally the Janes House, a Victorian built in 1902. It was fun roaming around the house and discovering cool rooms and spaces. - didn't get to try the cocktails but I hear they are good (just had beer the whole night to prevent hangovers :/) - really cool musical act and burlesque shows. Adds to the whole 20s/Prohibition-era feel. - great outdoor space/patio area. Perfect for mild LA nights. Cons: - the bathroom situation can be challenging. Im not sure how many stalls are in the bathrooms as I only got to see the outside, but it's a pretty tight space especially when there is a line. I was in line for about 2 minutes when the hallway got crowded. A bouncer came by, picked the 1st 5 girls he saw and led us to the private bathroom upstairs (yay!). read more

Went here for the first time for their 2020 NYE event. It was 100 for a 5 hour open bar from 9 to 2. The place was cute and the liquor didn't run out... They kept it going u til like 6 til 2 and then turned the lights on and didn't kick people out u til 2. That's amazing for LA when most bars/clubs turn the lights on at 1.3 am. The only issue I had was getting in. When we arrived there was a line and someone was like did you pre buy tickets if so stand in line. They have a cool entry into the club where you go up some stairs and then enter via a secret door...it is a speak easy. But last nihht after waiting in for 40 mins a bunch of us realized there was another line and if you went that way then you just by passed the cool entry. This should have been made known to all. And we could have been in 30 mins sooner. Minor detail but venues need to ensure that information is shared. I've been living on and off in LA since 2017 and this is by for my favorite spot.. The Bungalows and highlight rooms to Delilah's bar. I've seen what LA has to offer! Being in the acting world and circle you get to experience many things out here. This is why I had to write this one.. between the rooms and the history its all amazing and the DJ and private events.. and do we want to get started on the prohibition era antique of a spot this is with amazing entrances and all that... But really what makes no vacancy is the people! I mean what a place to go to and just have fun for a night and not have to worry especially how things are now. Carlos and Oscar really hold down the fort in the front and don't allow bad vibes in. When they say just hold a second they really mean it and they look out for you!! And if someone is being creepy thats a no go in their books! Then you get inside and you have others like Joakim and Steve and everyone there is just working together making sure everything is alright! then behind the bar got the legendary Rocky!!! he might look familiar but a great man working his ass off every time.. and of course the fabulous miss Angie with the welcome.. You see no matter where you go the things could be all cool, but its the people that make it worth the while!
