We decided to try this place after a crazy grocery shopping spree. It's a small restaurant close to bai tong not obvious from the main road. The sign isn't even lit so you can't see it at night at all. We got the nine way noodle, the wonton with raitan pepper, bean curd and cucumber salad. The nine way noodle is probably the best dish of the night, it has good flavors and was cooked well. It's a simple dish with just noodle and beef but the flavors was good. The wonton soup had the numbing spice but it was bland. The wonton was a little overcooked. Overall, i wish I had this dried cause the soup didn't do much to it. The cucumber salad was ok, and bean curd was a little tough and bland, but the side of the pepper help with the flavor. Service was a little much for me, the waiter kept asking us every minute or so if we were ready to order when we were still thinking. He was very attentive and observant. Been wanting to try this place off a while and finally got some takeout. Got the spicy wontons and the sweet water noodles. The noodles were chewy and sweet, good spice. The wontons were good but lots of residue of spices that were really bitter when bitten into. Didn't feel great after eating it even after heating up super well. Service is impeccable! I came in at 5pm after an appointment and this place was empty. But the server was immediate and attentive. There are many noodle dishes on the menu, and I plan on coming back because of how friendly the staff was that night. He suggested either nine way noodle or the beef soup noodle dish. The most popular item here is the nine way noodle dish which of course has ground pork served with a spicy oil dish. Just a simple dish made well. The prices seem a bit high for what it is and how much of a serving is given. I ordered the item described to go and was still offered the complimentary mung bean dessert. You might be enticed by the Mongolian buffet next door yet truth to be told the food here is Authentic and way better than the buffet or any other restaurants in the area. Such a good, yummy spicy broth with fresh high quality ingredients. I love the maocai here and I often think about it because it's so good. What I like best is the depth of the broth - I don't like watery broths that are just spicy but a spoonful of their spicy broth just makes me so happy. I get very spicy mala soup base with a regular numbing level and it's perfect for me. Just spicy enough! Cucumber salad is a cold, refreshing, crunchy accompaniment to a delicious maocai. Surprisingly good! I went there expecting it to be greasy and salty, but I was pleasantly surprised. The food is full of flavour, not too salty, not greasy at all, and simply delicious. The staff is really welcoming and fast. You get free refills for some boiled/steamed beans, which taste pretty great! The restaurant is really small, kind of overlooked, but it's great. This was a totally unexpected find when we were looking for some noodles and dumplings following our little man's surgery. All went well with the procedure and with dinner that night! This place specializes in Szechuan quisine And by the end of our take-out adventure, we were hooked on it! Four good size items came to about $35 and fed three of us with leftovers for the next morning. The Nine Way noodles and the sweet water noodles were out of the park good. The nine Way noodles were a dry noodle, the closest we've seen since we were in central China, and had just enough heat. The sweet water noodles were straight dreamy and something we are now actively trying to get a restaurant in town to make. They are much thicker handmade noodles that had a sweet and spicy sauce on them. It was truly a perfect combination! We also had some pork wontons and some Szechuan dumplings. Both of them were very good, but were definitely outshined by the noodles. When all was said and done, we were trying to figure out two things... First, how soon we could get back over here to try other things on the menu, and Second, how we could get something like this back in our hometown. Seriously, is it in this area, you need to go try this place out. It's very nondescript in a strip off and was totally under the radar heading to sound reviews for it online. A hidden gem. The food here is really really flavorful. Even though the mao cai can get kind of expensive depending on what you add, it's a must try. The ma la soup base has an incredible depth of flavor, and it was worth drinking every last drop of it even though it was pretty spicy. This is also one of very few occasions where I felt that splurging on the premium items was worth it - fish filet is a must have in any ma la meal imo, and the cuts of beef are actually really tender and delicious. We also tried their minced beef with green pepper noodles which was pretty solid too. The noodles have a nice chew, and the sauce also had a good deep flavor. I would definitely come here again. Where can you find a place where the main dish is less than $15? Not very many, but you can enjoy lots of noodle dishes and small plates at Nine Way. The options are limited for non-pork eaters but the Pickled Chicken Giblet Noodles jumped out at me. If you're not a fan of schezuan pepper (or at least the numbing sensation), you should avoid this. The other things we had were the sweet water noodle with peanut sauce, chicken with sichuan yacai noodle (with tofu instead) and cucumber salad. Service was very good and the waitresses were very polite. The only thing was when I mentioned that I was a vegan I don't think she really understood what that meant. She said even though the menu said vegan it can only be made vegetarian. She also said some of them items had garlic hence wasn't vegan. Didn't really make sense. Finally, a new Sichuanese restaurant on the Eastside! I'm usually hesitant when it comes to trying a new Chinese restaurant, but Nine Way gets a thumbs up! I went here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon and was seated promptly. The entire restaurant was full, but our server was really attentive and friendly (which is rare at a Chinese restaurant, nowadays lol). We started off with an order of Green Onion Pancakes and Spicy Pork Dumplings. Both of the appetizers were yummy - I especially liked the sauce on the dumplings! Flavorful, with just the right kick of spice. We also tried the Nine Way Noodle and Beef Noodle Soup. I really enjoyed the Nine Way Noodle. A simple, yet well-made dish. Good place for a quick and easy meal if you're craving noodles- we tried both the Nine Way noodles and the minced beef with pepper noodles which were flavorful but could certainly be spicier! Avoid the scallion pancake which was way overcooked and hard - scallion pancakes should still be sufficiently springy and chewy in the middle but unfortunately ours was rock hard, almost like a cracker. Service was prompt and efficient. Note that all the wontons on the menu contain pork with no beef or chicken option so something to bear in mind if you cannot eat pork. The waiter was really nice and informative - offered us free pickled carrots and celery while we were waiting for our food. I ordered the Clear Zhajiang Noodle Soup, and as you can see from the picture, it was just a tad too oily for my liking. Review from someone grown up in Sichuan: I came to the states for 10 years and it is probably by far top 3 noodles I tried everywhere. The presentation of the noodles is so-so though, the textures and flavors are all hidden underneath! The texture of the noodles are not instant noodle like. They taste fresh. If you like spicy, you are going to love it, because not only the spiciness you get, also the rich taste of sesame oil and pickled ingredients in it. The wontons are also wonderful. The wrap is super thin, which is rare in United States. All wonton I had were with very thick wrap. If you are not super into spicy, they can also adjust the level to cater to your needs. The only downside I have is the noodles are on the pricier side as you can tell from the menu. But compared to din Thai fung, I think you are lucky to get better noodles here. read more
