Ordering and payment are done via scanning the barcode on the table, the process was simple and quick. For appetizer I got a complementary small dish of peanuts and spicy/pickled veggie. My bowl of noodle soup also arrived quickly after I ordered. The flavor of the soup was good! I also really liked the pieces of tofu that soaked up the soup and made a flavor explosion in my mouth as I bit into it. However, as the 3-star rating showed, I did not completely enjoy the dish. I am not a fan of the extremely-tough texture of the beef. My teeth were screaming and I actually gave up on a few pieces that were just so tough that I could not chew them. So my in laws hubby me and my brother tried this place on friday night. Got seated immediately and parking wasn't too bad. Service was quick and friendly. My issue is just the food. We ordered a variety of dishes including noodles rice mapo tofu and more. My mom is from Sichuan China and even she kept saying they put way too much mala peppercorn in everything. Everything was so oily. You can't drink the broth of anything. The mapo tofu had huge chunks of tofu which is not how it's meant to be prepared because none of the flavor was on the INSIDE of the tofu, only the outside and it tasted watery. I had gone into here after visiting Moomo tea and got baited from the pictures in the front. I had looked up the Yelp reviews prior seeing that it was 3.5 stars, but I wanted to give it a chance because most of the reviews I had seen were service issues. The service was fine and the order came out very quickly, but it was very subpar. In every aspect. I had gotten the spicy beef shank noodle soup and the noodles were overcooked, the soup had no depth but just peppercorn, and the beef had the texture of jerky. The beef felt it was frozen, quickly defrosted, and then thrown in. I think the best part was actually the fried tofu, but fried tofu is really hard to do wrong. Ingredient quality is abysmally low. Cold cut "homemade" beef shank was dry, unflavorful and obviously not fresh. Nearly tossed it out, but tried to soak it in water for a couple hours to release the sodium and fed to my dog. He refused to try it- probably for the best. I usually order the rice noodles because it's tolerable and close to my place of work, but the soup base is obviously instant and full of powdered MSG. They use the kind of oil that greases up your lips and leaves an indelible film. It clings to your dishes and cannot be removed without an an exorbitant amount of detergent. Low quality stuff that's probably clogging up your arteries. I know you can make tomato egg easily but it's just so good. Egg is fluffy and I think they probably add sugar/ketchup because it's a bit sweeter. Scallion pancake is perfectly light and crispy. Offers some stir-fry dishes and bento boxes, but the specialty here is the noodle soups, so I went with one of those: hot and sour lamb rolls. What I got for takeout was a container of spicy broth with plenty of the shredded lamb (the kind you get in stir-fry dishes in good Chinese restaurants, boiled) and vegetables (tomato, mushrooms, green beans), plus a bowl (also sealed) of noodles with some fried tofu, peanuts, scallions, and I guess cilantro. (To me, cilantro is nearly tasteless, so I'm never sure if I'm having any.) I am definitely returning with more friends to try their skewers, kebabs and other noodle soups! I saw the next table eating them, and the skewers looked savory. They also have sauces and fermented bean chili oil (adds flavor and color to your dishes and not spicy at all) upon request. Ordering is by phone and QR code. The atmosphere can get loud, because there is usually lots of customers and everyone is talking, so be warned :) They also have a buy-1-get-1-free green tea drink. It's not on the menu--you just ask the serve staff and they will tell you. The serve staff are nice, and friendly. One them they got our order mixed up and fixed it right away. We were only told that no cards were accepted for checks under $30, so one of us had to cash out in a nearby bank immediately. Sometimes you go to a place and have a dish you won't forget. This was one of those. I was really craving some spicy noodles. After scoping around at a bunch of places I found many spicy options on their menu. It was a little busy when I arrived but since I was flying solo I was able to sit at the bar right away. Ordered the beef offal spicy noodle soup....and boy is it spicy. I love it when I dish makes me sweat! The beef offal soup had some really good funky bits of beef in it too - tendon, tripe, intestine, and some brisket to top it off. Very, very good. For dessert to cool off I had the white jelly since they were out of the rice cakes. It was very cool and refreshing after the hot and spicy soup. We arrived a little before closing and when we walked in, we cleared stated if its still open or not and they replied "Yes we are still open", and when we sat down, they started to rush us several times and limited the menu to only the noodles. If you know that the kitchen is closing soon, why not just tell us that we are not taking any new customers, but instead they rushed up and we were forced to eat in a hurry. I have to admit that I came in here with the wrong expectations. My partner-in-crime picked this place out from his list of saved places to try so we came here for lunch. I did not look it up in advance and was actually expecting Taiwanese style beef noodle soup so obviously upon my first bite, I was quite taken aback by the lack of depth the broth had. It's not that it tasted bad or anything, it just didn't live up to my wrongful expectations. After realizing that I'm actually experiencing a Hunan style noodle soup, I quickly recomposed my palate for a clean slate. The broth for my A1. Beef Stew Noodle Soup was a lot lighter in flavor and spices as opposed to the Taiwanese variant, which is often deeply fragrant and flavorful. Not saying that this one was flavorless, but it's just simply lighter in comparison. It's not a bad thing, in fact, I quite enjoyed it. The noodles were a joy to slurp as the texture was also significantly lighter and easier on the way in (could be dangerous for those who don't really chew their food like myself) but it's definitely a lot less time consuming. We also shared a green onion pancake which was not really my fave, to be honest. There was an oddly heavy garlic flavor that overpowered the scallions. Not sure if they actually used garlic or if it was fried in garlic oil. This one came down to personal preference for me, and I personally did not like the flavor.
