The takeout container the restaurant used.
    Henry C.

This comment/review is regarding the takeout containers they're using. The lid and bowl shattered into tiny fragrant upon opening, some of which I wasn't able to find. This review is to encourage them to switch containers because not only is it dangerous to unknowingly ingest plastic micro-fragments but this is also a potential choking hazard. I had to dispose of the noodles but the broth was delicious.

Noodleosophy is local Bay Area chain focusing on hand-pulled noodle dishes, and this location in particular can be found in Millbrae's Social Eatery food hall. As part of Social Eatery, patrons can take a seat within the food hall, place their orders on the provided tablet, and a staff member will bring the food an beverages straight to your table. We decided to get their beef tendon noodle soup and selected the biang biang noodles (you're able to customize the dish to your liking with whatever noodle option you prefer). We also got a side of their pork and shrimp dumplings, because who doesn't love dumplings? The beef tendon noodle soup was rich and flavorful, while the accompanying noodles were perfectly cooked and chewy - providing a great mouth feel to the dish. The dumplings were delicious as well, and were a nice addition to the meal as a whole. If you're ever in the Millbrae area and want a one-stop shop for all your dining and beverage needs, then Social Eatery is definitely the place to go and be sure to enjoy some delicious hand-pulled noodles from Noodleosophy while you're at it!

I love noodles, and these ones did not disappoint. We placed our order on a tablet and our food was brought to the table within 15 minutes. I got the garlic biang biang noodles with an egg and tofu.

It's BOWL-tiful friendships that last through the times that makes me grateful. Came here with my longtime Dental Hygiene friend to catch up. Located inside Social Eatery .:: FOOD ::. Biang Biang Garlic Noodle $12.99: Comes with a mountain of bean sprout, broccoli, and biang biang noodles topped with garlic, ginger, cilantro and green onion. A little spicy kick to it. Loved the texture of the noodle, but wish we were able to add things to it, as it was plain without any meat. .:: Service / Ambiance / Parking ::. Terrible Service. Pretty much self service on everything. You order on your phone through QR code. Wait was super long and unorganized. Located inside Social Eatery, but there's no waitlist, no way to put your name down. You literally just wait at the door in line (very narrow if I may add), until a table opens up. They need to at least let you write your name down. My friend wanted to ask if we could add something on our order and the waiter was so rudely annoyed. He did a big sigh, rolled his eyes and was like no your order is in you cannot add anything. It was SO hard to flag ANYONE down, we just went up and grabbed things ourselves: napkins, to go box, etc. All the waiters literally did was bring food out and thats it. The place has a cute little exterior outside, when I went it was during Halloween week, it was decked out in Halloween decors. The inside had logs / wooden vibes as table. There were ones in high chairs, ones with benches, ones with low tables/ chairs. Parking was scary. The parking lot is SO narrow and small. I feel like its asking for an accident to happen. I would recommend parking on the street, its much more space and safer.

Excellent quality, big portion. Fair price.

Good quality . Big portion. Fair pricing. Taste good. Ample parking spaces. This place used to be a Japanese restaurant. But this noodle place is better.

    Picked veggie beef noodle soup

It was our first time to Millbrae Social Eatery. This food hall is one of those where you can sit and prder by ipad. Ordered the picked veggie and sliced beef noodle soup with rice noodles, spicy, and a boba drink. The portion for the soup was huge and could have been shared. Both lacked flavor and depth, so I was disappointed in my meal since I have had better in SoCal. The service was okay, except that they gave us the wrong order a couple times. All in all, it was an acceptable experience to try once.

I'd been craving that spicy grilled fish from Earl Spicy for months. I'd talked about it so much…read morethat this time, instead of just dragging my husband, I brought the kids and my son's friend too. I was basically forming a fan club. But right before we left, my husband looked up the hours and said, "Wait... it's called Taste of Four Seasons now?" Uh, what? Did Earl Spicy close? Yelp still showed it alive and well, so we decided to go check it out anyway. My heart was already committed. We got there around 7 PM on a Friday. A few tables were filled -- seemed like a good sign. Plenty of servers, but no sign of the old owner. I started feeling a little nervous. We looked through the menu... no spicy grilled fish. Cue quiet panic. I pulled out my phone and showed the server a picture from our last visit. She said they still have it -- it's just made differently now and it's really good. Also, they now use a fresh fish called 多寶魚 instead of the frozen fish Earl Spicy used. Now, my husband and I thought we had decent Chinese, but we had no idea what 多寶魚 was. We stared at the tank she pointed to, still clueless. And honestly, if Earl Spicy really used frozen fish, they fooled us -- it never tasted frozen. I asked how much it was, since it wasn't on the menu. She said $42 per pound, usually around 1.5 pounds. I figured maybe $65-70. More than Earl Spicy's $48 XL version, but hey -- I am here for it. We ordered a few other dishes too. First came the "New Style Sweet and Sour Pork & Shrimp." The menu said pork and chicken, but the server said it was a typo -- it's actually pork cheek and shrimp. It ended up being the best dish of the night. The shrimp was excellent, 5/5. The pork cheek was good too, just a little fatty -- maybe 4/5 for me. My husband wanted Szechuan pepper chicken. The server said the kitchen could make it, even though only a tea-flavored version was listed. What we got was stir-fried chicken with jalapeños. Not deep-fried, not spicy, just... dry. It didn't really land. My son's friend loves fried rice, so we got the $19.95 special fried rice. It came out shaped like a fish -- super cute. First bite though? "Why is this so hard and dry?" the kids asked. I tried it -- yup, same. Crunchy in a weird way, like it had been sitting on the heat too long. I asked the server, and she apologized and had the kitchen remake it. The second version was slightly better, but still dry. Maybe that's just how they do it. Next came the salted fish eggplant casserole. It was only $9.85, but no one really touched it. Just not great. And finally, the main event: the fish I'd been dreaming about. It arrived in the same tray as before, but no tea light underneath. Not a big deal. They'd added a mountain of flat noodles (河粉) underneath, but the fish itself? Dry. Bland. Not the spicy grilled fish I remembered. The sauce was thin, almost like gravy, and the noodles were just soaked sadly in it. A friendly lady (maybe the new owner?) came by and explained that the restaurant now serves southern Chinese-style food, which is different from Earl Spicy's. I smiled politely, but inside I was crying, Why didn't you say that before we ordered? She brought out complimentary glass jelly for dessert -- nice touch. I liked it, but the kids thought it was too bitter. Then came the bill. The fish? $111.77. I did a double take. How was that 2.6 pounds?! I thought about asking, but my husband gave me the look: "Let's just go." So we paid. With tax and tip, the total came out to nearly $240. Final verdict: RIP Earl Spicy. You were loved. You are missed. As for Taste of Four Seasons? Once was enough.

The price point is a little high and I wondered if it's because they're not getting too many customers and they're just trying to stay in business. The restaurant is quite roomy and decorated with an authentic flare. We were greeted by friendly faces who very warm in all of their interactions. Here's how everything ranked: $22.95 Salted egg prawns $21.95 Spicy fried fish $21.95 Garlic pea sprouts $13.95 Beef scallion pancake rolls I think these are pretty standard Chongqing province dishes. Our The salted prawns were definitely flavorful with umami goodness -- you can really taste a good amount of quality salted egg, the prawns were huge without too much batter and the dish was a good size. I also enjoyed the little corn crunchies. Second best was the fried fish. Their standard level is not very spicy even though it comes with a ton of red peppers so if you like it hot, then don't hesitate to let them know. I appreciate that they don't heavily batter their fish. Our dishes arrived surprisingly quickly, almost too quickly and I felt the dishes could've been hotter so I'm not sure if they were already premade and just kept on a warmer or what. All in all the meal was satisfying and Earl Spicy would probably hit the mark for a lot of people.

The service was amazing -- one super efficient waiter handled pretty much the whole room with a manager. Very attentive water refills and very accessible. The food came out so quickly and was delicious! Chicken katsu curry is $18 and generously portioned. I got the katsu rice plate (no curry sauce, but a sweet BBQ-ish katsu sauce) which came with a pile of cabbage salad, pickled cucumber salad, marinara spaghetti (somewhat inexplicably, but they do specialize in Japanese spaghetti here), rice, and miso soup for $19. A good deal! Chicken was tender and moist. The chicken katsu udon has a good amount of spice and flavor; just note it's on the spicy side. Also really appreciate the sesame seed grinder, the assortment of peppers and spices at the table you could add, and that there is a self-serve napkin dispenser. If you plan on visiting during the weekend, expect a wait. The line can get pretty long, but after eating here multiple times, I can confidently say it is worth every minute. Some restaurants are all hype, but Curry Hyuga earns every bit of the praise it receives. The katsu is consistently excellent. Whether you order the chicken or the pork, the breading is always perfectly crisp while the meat stays incredibly juicy and tender. That level of consistency is something I really appreciate because every visit has been just as good as the last. The curry is what keeps me coming back. It is rich, comforting, and packed with layers of flavor. Every bite has a depth and complexity that makes it stand out from your typical Japanese curry. It is the kind of meal that leaves you thinking about it long after you have finished. One thing I also really enjoy is the atmosphere. The restaurant strikes a great balance between being lively and comfortable. There is enough energy in the room that it feels welcoming and full of life, but it is still quiet enough to have an easy conversation without having to raise your voice. I often find myself stopping in for a solo meal when I am in the area, and it is the perfect place to enjoy a peaceful lunch or dinner by myself. At the same time, it works just as well when I bring friends and family. It is one of those rare restaurants that feels right no matter who you are dining with. The staff has also been nothing but friendly and welcoming every time I have visited. Even when the restaurant is packed, they stay attentive and keep things moving with a smile. If you have been debating whether to wait in line, take this as your sign. Curry Hyuga earned its place among the Top 100 Restaurants in the country for a reason, and it continues to prove why with every visit. I will happily keep coming back.

The two of us decided to go with the premium grade for $55, which gives you more good-quality beef than the classic option for $45. Personally, I was not impressed with the premium meat this time. None of the beef was particularly good quality. Even the American Wagyu wasn't as tender as it should have been. The only thing I liked from the premium menu was their raw crab. It tasted just like the one I had in Korea. The servers were attentive and checked on us often, which was nice. The place also gets very smoky because they use charcoal, so be prepared to leave smelling like BBQ. Next time I come, I wouldn't order the premium menu. For $55, I'd rather go to another Korean restaurant and order à la carte dishes with better-quality beef. Our bill, including tip, was $150 for two people. Since we're small eaters, I feel like we could have gotten better-quality meat somewhere else for $150. That said, if you're a bigger eater and haven't tried this place yet, I'd definitely give it a try because not many Korean BBQ places use charcoal for grilling.
