Absolute Nightmare! While it was a complicated move and we paid for insurance to cover most everything, over $60K in missing items were not delivered to our home. Upon tracing, nothing found. Damaged items were given a token payment to have them repaired. Mountain bike lost with just the front wheel delivered, not covered. High-end cutlery lost, not covered. Heirloom musical instruments (packed by Nor-Cal) lost, not covered. 4 Persian rugs purchased in Turkey not delivered, not covered. We never got an explanation but were offered arbitration with a 3rd party company. Nor-Cal only agreed to arbitrate for $10K maximum. Still going through the process one year later. Call into the President of the company, no return calls. Not my idea of a top rate moving company. 1 Star. read more

We had the pleasure of working with Nor-Cal Moving Services with our new office re-location earlier this month (August 2012) and we were honored to have hired such a reliable, honest, easy, fast and a friendly staff. The staff members were easy to talk to and followed great directions. They knew exactly what they were doing and recommended a few strategies to help ease the process of the move at a timely manner. They weren't in for nickel and diming us for every hour...rather getting us home as early possible on a Friday night to start the weekend on a good and stress-free note. They even took away our old gadgets, computers, and furniture that we were planning on disposing [at an extra cost] for free! In regards to pricing, you will find that they are fairly decent compared to other moving services. When Jim, our sales rep, came into our offices for a price estimate, he was very detailed and looked into everything that will effect the estimate; whereas when we called in two other companies for their estimates, they were in and out and just threw out a "more or less" figure. Nor-Cal even provided us with more than enough boxes, labeling stickers, pictures, and other 'outside' services - disposal of equipment at no extra cost, bringing down 'sold' equipment to the curbside the day of move if sold to a buyer, etc... Our move started at 5:30pm and we were done just before 10:00pm, as promised. After settling in and unpacking the next week, my manager and I noticed that we had misplaced the company camera and videocamera in one of the credenza's that were marked as one of the items to be disposed of. When we brought this to the attention of Jim, our sales rep, he was able to track down the credenza and the company camera and videocamera the very next morning. He even went out of his way to drop off our equipment to us that same week! I will definitely recommend Nor-Cal Moving Services for all your moving needs in the Bay Area. My mother contacted the San Jose Nor-Cal offices before our move, and was put into contact with an employee named Chris. She and Chris set up an appointment for Chris to come and survey our house before giving us a cost and time estimate for the moving services. On the day of the appointment, my mom just happened to find a much cheaper moving service, so she immediately called Chris to cancel. Apparently this was too much for Chris to handle. He accused my mother of "laughing at him" and cussed at her before hanging up on her. I see, according to the other reviews, that this is not the first time Nor-Cal's employees have been ridiculously disrespectful to their customers. This kind of service is disgustingly rude, immature, insecure, and unprofessional. I would recommend this company to NO ONE, and I hope they either hire new people or go out of business. read more

Worst moving company! I have been relocated by them twice and got rude and unprofessional services both time. They don't know how to pack goods properly and they don't care about you and your family. As a result you have to spend hours filing claims for damaged and loss items. The moving coordinator had to call their boss each time to get things straightened up. Nor-cal took all the stress out of moving due to covid 19 it has been hard for my dental office to stay afloat and NorCal was very affordable and professional. The team that was sent to relocate my office was amazing. They arrived on time, completed the job quicker than I thought. The team was very efficient and friendly and had appropriate protective wear kept on their masks even while they were moving very large & heavy awkward pieces . They actually put my files in boxes and kept them in order somehow and even put them back where they go upon arrival as well one gentleman was very handy and helpful he even hung up our Pictures and TVs while they were moving. I will definitely use them again and recommend to anyone. read more

It was stressful to pick out a moving company, almost every one of them has horror stories on their yelp page. My wife and I decided to bite the bullet and resign ourselves to the worst. Needless to say, we were pleasantly surprised! The movers were polite, courteous, and fast. They were very conscientious about not scuffing any of the hardwood or door frames. Out of 80 or so boxes, only a cheap drinking glass was broken (and we packed this box ourselves). All our stuff was delivered, nothing lost. Whats more, our things got from San Francisco to DC in less than two weeks. The moving people were easy to get a hold of, and promptly responded to emails. They also contracted with a solid crating service to protect our more fragile things. All in all, I recommend. read more

We contacted Allied Van Lines this past weekend. We told them our desired moving date was Wednesday or Thursday of next week. 10-11 days prior to our moving date. We were told by Allied that this should be acceptable and that our information would be forwarded to Nor-Cal and that Phil Barry would be our point of contact there. Phil then scheduled a walkthrough of our apartment for today, 5-6 days before our move. Immediately upon him arriving he asked our move in day, when told he said that he wouldn't be able to do it due to not having parking permits in place in time. I said goodbye and good day and he left. Significant time on my part was wasted to be available for his walkthrough. This could have been more readily and easily clarified earlier this week when we first called and I would have procured a parking permit for them. The general lack of clear communication between Allied, Nor-Cal, and myself is cause for concern. If communication is this bad then how much worse can I expect things once they are in position of all of my valued possessions. read more

I had a great experience recently with Nor-Cal Moving Services. I was referred to them via Allied Moving, and then hired them to move and store some office furniture. While the furniture that was being moved didn't pose any unusual challenges, I did give the movers a fairly short time frame in which to do it. During both load-out and load-in, the team was able to move everything quickly and efficiently. When the furniture was returned to the office space, everything was in perfect condition. The team worked with me to remove all the storage labels, and even helped me wipe down each individual desk and chair. I was impressed with their work ethic and friendliness. I also thought the price we paid for the job was reasonable. If I need to supervise another move, I'd certainly call Nor-Cal again. Thanks, guys! read more

We used Nor-Cal Allied / Allied International San Francisco for an international move to China and it was a mediocre experience at best. The salesman over-promised and under-delivered. We expected door-to-door service, per the brochure, but ended up having to make ALL the arrangements ourselves for customs (finding our own customs agent) on the China side. Additionally, the salesman lied about dates throughout the ridiculous FOUR-MONTH arrangement process (that is, it took a whole four months from the time we got our quote to the time our items actually got shipped OUT of the U.S.A.). He promised us packing/moving dates that got delayed on their end; they had to push out/reschedule twice - so we had boxes crammed in our living room for one-and-a-half MONTHS LONGER than originally expected. Finally, he underbid initially (making all sorts of excuses about the size of the items which I had sent him photos of!) and ended up adding A LOT to the final price, which he charged on our credit card prior to giving us the final invoice and receiving our approval. Pretty lousy experience overall. The sales guy (our main point of contact) was very friendly, however - just totally unreliable. read more

I used Nor-Cal for a residential move from California to Texas. I was referred to them by Allied Van Lines as their local representative. I interviewed several movers and they seemed the most responsive. I had moved from Texas to California three years prior to that so I had a pretty good understanding of how the moving process should work-- and also pretty high expectations since that move went perfectly-- with that previous move, the packers were pleasant and thorough, the driver and the moving coordinator kept in touch with me constantly and none of my belongings were damaged. Unfortunately, this was not the case this time. The packers seemed annoyed by how much stuff there was to pack and ended up totally missing a couple boxes of my grandson's toys in a bedroom closet; in addition they did not pack my mother's good china, which was in kind of a corner kitchen cabinet. (Granted, YES I should have noticed these things too-- but we all know how stressful moving across the country can be). There were only two people on the loading crew the next day (a father and college aged son) and they were annoyed with the packers from the previous day since they didn't pack the TVs. The driver was a great guy, but I never heard anything from him from the time he left my house on Thursday evening until the next Saturday morning when he called me at 10 am saying that he was about 40 minutes out from my house (the moving coordinator had at least communicated to me delivery was expected for that day). I should note that the moving coordinator, Lucinda, clearly notes on her email that she is available from 7:30 to 3:30 M-F; if you have problems outside of that, its obviously not her problem. On Friday, when she confirmed that delivery was expected, she said "let me know how it goes." (Who would I have called if there WAS a problem?). In addition, my sales rep, Chris Kohlman, unbeknownst to me, actually went out on sick leave at about that time as well without giving me any contact information of who to consult with on any problems. During the moving/packing process, one of the legs on a chair that had been in my family for 70 years was broken (the driver took responsibility for this) and the leg to an iron bookcase (also a family item) was lost (no one admitted to this happening, they just kind of leaned it against the wall). The only reason I'm giving 2 stars for review is that the local unloading crew (not affiliated with Nor-Cal in any way, engaged by the driver) were amazing-- very competent and professional and goodnatured. I ended up having to spend $500 to ship my mother's china and the toys from California to Texas. In addition, while my move did not occur until January 3 and delivery did not occur until January 12, they charged my credit card on December 28 and when I requested an invoice after delivery to submit for reimbursement, I was informed that it would take 2-4 weeks to produce this (it was finally provided on January 28, with no detail regarding final weight of the shipment) As a result, of course, I'm ending up paying interest on this amount. When I presented these concerns to the moving coordinator and attempted to contact the sales representative, I was simply informed by the moving coordinator that this was "company policy" and the sales rep was "not available" to discuss-- I was not given any other avenue of discussing this and Nor-Cal's website doesn't seem to give any other contact information regarding company management. While I'm sure this all could have gone worse (I know I've heard much worse stories), my previous experience shows that it doesn't have to be and if anyone ever wants a GREAT moving experience from Texas to anywhere, contact Ward North American here in Dallas. I would definitely not recommend Nor-Cal as a moving company due to their lack of courtesy, thoroughness and responsiveness. read more

I'd give this review ZERO stars if I could. It's taken me a month to even bring myself to take the time to write this, because I've been so upset, but I feel the yelp community needs to know. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES USE THIS COMPANY. They were contracted out by Allied, so I recommend not using them either! After reading the other recent reviews it's clear that I am not the only customer that has had issues. Once they lock you in and take your money the service level not only decreases but it evaporates to NONE. Worst $5000 I have ever spent + the $500 I had to spend to replace lost and/or damaged personal possessions! I was promised a delivery arrival date the Saturday prior to my move, that did not happen... After making several calls to my "move coordinator" Lucinda Lamson, finally confirmed (5 days later) to a Friday delivery between 8-10am. That Friday, 10am came and went and no delivery and no phone call...so I called Lucy... no answer. So I tried my salesman Chris Kohlman, who said he'd research it and call me back...he didn't. Mind you this is all after the movers arrived the previous Monday morning, they weren't bad, but needed to take a "smoke" break an hour in. Leaving cigarette butts in the yard. They put red numbered stickers on everything and the "lead supervisor" took "inventory". The carbon copy inventory sheet made no sense, was illegible and after further inspection, I noticed there were 2 stickers on many single items. Is this their way to say the inventory quantity was more to make me pay more? I do have to say one of the packers/movers was amazing, wish I knew his name, he is the ONLY positive to this move. Finally, Lucy returned my call to say the truck was delayed and would now arrive between 3-5pm. She promised to have extra crew scheduled to expedite the offload. 3:30pm, they arrive, no extra crew, extremely rude driver... says "sorry we're a little late". Ummm five and a half hours late... and NO EXTRA help. Not only that, but I watched one of the men drop a table top to a $300 patio table 6 feet from the truck. The rude driver left, only to come back 1 hour later with food for the crew who then took a 30 minute break. And who was supposed to inventory the items and red stickers as the movers brought the items in??? Me apparently! No "lead supervisor" this time... and I was now out a full days work. In addition to the damaged patio table, there were 3 broken pots. I also noticed the base and stand were missing from a bird bath. A worker remembered seeing them being delivered to the prior house (how does this happen if items are inventoried and labeled with red stickers???), and I was promised that they would be returned to me... they weren't. I know this is a long story, but please note that I have since emailed Lucy and Chris over a half dozen times and I keep getting promises that a "supervisor" (Peter) will get back to me... he hasn't... After a $250 deductible, claims gave me $125 to replace lost/broken items. $125 to replace things that the movers/workers should be held responsible for??... And sales, move coordinators, and management should be held 100% accountable. Only they don't return calls or emails. No discount for time/energy/property loss...NOT EVEN AN APOLOGY!! Hi Angela and Paul, This is way overdue, but I just wanted to take the time to say "Thank You" to both of you and the crew who were involved in moving my mom in August. You made what was an incredibly stressful move so much more manageable. From the time you walked into my mom's home Paul, I knew we had made the right decision to use Allied as our moving company. You both were wonderful in answering questions, staying in contact and following through. The moving crew (unfortunately I don't have names) who came to the house to pack up the china and load up all the boxes and furniture were AWESOME! They were friendly, professional and very hard working. They double checked they had everything and also did a "walk through" with my sister and I to make sure they had everything. The moving crew (again I don't have names) who delivered our things to my sister's were just as good! My sister JoAnn and her husband Randy said the crew was fantastic! They did an excellent job keeping my sister informed as to when they thought they would make delivery, the actual time of delivery and then were on time as well! Jo and Randy were very impressed with this crew as well. They were thorough, extremely helpful in going above and beyond to accommodate us and were very friendly. I went on-line looking for a "survey" to fill out but didn't see anything. Making a move from Alameda, CA to Atlanta, GA alone and at my age (senior) was an overwhelming adventure. I felt totally incapable of organizing such a move. I got estimates from three reputable companies and settled on Allied Van Lines/Nor-Cal because of the ancillary services that I was offered like getting items I didn't want to donation centers and to the local Food Bank. Nor-Cal provided exceptional service from start to finish. My first contact came within two days of my initial call. Paul Swaim came to my house to do the estimate. The moment Paul began working with me he assured me that we could get the job done and that I shouldn't freak out. Paul addressed every obstacle that I presented be they real or imagined with professionalism, sensitivity, patience, and respect. I appreciate and thank him for everything that he did for me. The Move Coordinator, Angela Fernandez called throughout to ask how things were going and to see if I needed help with anything. Paul (the moving guru) provided services that were exactly what I needed. He anticipated and solved issues with the move that were difficult for me to handle. Paul brought recycled boxes and packing materials sufficient for the entire move. I got help getting rid of furniture, clothing, dishes, and a bunch of things accumulated over many years. Paul took care of getting what seemed like a ton of stuff to various donation centers and brought me the donation receipts for my taxes. The actual move out went smoothly. The driver, Bobbie, brought a team of no nonsense gentlemen who were careful with my things and quick. Bobbie and his team delivered the same no nonsense service in Atlanta. NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER, USE THESE PEOPLE! They are evil!!! It's been years since this happened but my horror story goes like this. I was moving from Hawaii to SF area. These people took my stuff from my house while I was deathly ill (really) and had me sign some papers without explaining anything. Once the items arrived in SF they called me to tell me that it will cost me over $7000 or something ridiculous like that. Granted this was with a car, it still shouldn't have been more than a couple of grand. Hello, the stuff came from a two bedroom apartment!! When I argued with the main lady (I wish I remember her name...I will look it up and put it in here when I find it) she decided to be as satanic as possible and told me that she no longer trust me that she's changing my payment option to only CASH. Who has that much cash on hand??? She did not want to hear that I didn't receive any estimate saying the cost will be that much nor the payment must be in cash. I called her a number of times but she actually cussed me out and hang up on me. They basically gave me an only option which is to get cash. They delivered the boxed goods but I had to go pick up the car from the port which was not close to me at all. When I reported my story to BBB, I had a number of people giving me emotional support by saying that they are known for this type of pure evil business. I was naive and didn't know to do my homework by checking them out before using their "services". NEVER AGAIN! and I will tell anyone and everyone who will listen to send my warning not to use this company EVER!!! I would give NEGATIVE stars if I could! Called to arrange a time to get my apartment assessed. They arranged for a time a week from the day I called them, which kind of concerned me given how long lead times were. Phil asked me to pull in the appointment as much as possible the day I scheduled it for so he wouldn't have dead time...and then was nearly 15 minutes late to it anyway. Only during this conversation where he asked to reschedule did I learn the appointment would be over a video call, too, which is not a sign of a well-managed service. The once-over he had me do was filled with an air of "I really don't like this" and disdain, and he told me I'd get a quote shortly. Hours later I get a quote that lists 2136 lbs of stuff with a completely fabricated 5000 lbs number that the price is based off of. Then when I replied asking where that super inflated number came from, I was not given a reply. So now he's wasted an entire week of my time, making my timeline even tighter since I need to restart from square one. Super unprofessional in every regard. Glad I won't need to move away from the area twice! read more

I would not recommend Nor-Cal Moving at all. We had a two-stage moving process where our items were moved into storage while we sold our home, and then the items were taken from storage and moved with our other belongings to our new house. When we were quoted for the move, we didn't know if we would find a house directly after selling ours, and got a quote to have all of our furniture moved to storage. That comes in hand later. The first stage was relatively fine. We did not like that the movers did not wear clothing to signify that that were with the moving company and they just brought a plain, white, truck. I wanted more professionalism. It was raining that day, and there was no floor protection at all. We had to clean the floors again before handing the keys over to the new owner. The far worst service came on the second leg of the move that happened over a month ago. We specifically asked for floor protection this time, as it was raining again and we had the floors cleaned before we moved in. They once again did not bring floor protection. Our wooden floors were left gauged and dirty. Secondly, sooo many items that were in storage were broken--glassware, decorations, our elliptical (the wheel case was smashed and pushed into a corner so we couldn't see it, additionally, it was put together completely wrong with the nuts forced on the wrong way. It is now unusable), an outside umbrella, etc were destroyed. We still have a claim out and are hearing nothing about getting reimbursed. We were charged for a mattress box that was not used. They wrapped the mattress in plastic, and proceeded to drop it on the rainy ground. It was filthy with mud and they mentioned nothing. In addition, we were promised that we would be charged less because we had to move considerably less items since we never had to put all that we owned in storage. We had taken carloads over to the new house for weeks to lessen how much would need to be moved. As I am sure you guessed, we were charged for the full amount. It took a long time for someone to get back to us about reimbursement, and they barely took any money off. To recap: Two homes were damaged, many of my items broken with no money back yet to fix them, charged for boxes that were not used in the move, overcharged considerably for items not moved, and overall slow service and response to serious problems. Terrific experience, and I am someone who has been moving around several times. Nor-Cal was very fast with responses, quote and scheduling the move. The movers were the kindest most genuinely caring team I ever encountered, they put so much care in wrapping all the items and making sure I was satisfied. They made my move so easy. Also the boxes were picked up 1 hr after I called the following day. I have experience with other moving companies and I can say that Nor-Cal is one of the best I ever used. I now see that we should have checked the Yelp reviews before choosing this company to move to New Zealand. The first set of packers were very professional, but every portion of our experience after that, from the second set of packers, who literally packed garbage in with our clothes and packed so poorly that much of our stuff was damaged or ruined, to our contact person who has been nothing but defensive about our understandable complaints. We paid almost $20,000 for our move and have received broken and moldy and dirty belongings delivered to us. They have not given us the unpacking service we paid for. We have been given the run around for our insurance claims (for which we paid thousands for "Gold service"). Next stop, acquiring an attorney. read more

Stay away from these guys. Seriously, run for the hills before you even consider doing business with Nor Cal Moving. To start, understand that all of their movers are subcontractors. The guys who actually moved us worked very hard, took reasonable care of our items, and were courteous throughout the 2 days of our move. The real issue is with ownership and management. It starts with Peter Mazzetti, their President & General Counsel, and appears to permeate from there. The office staff I interacted with was unresponsive, downright rude (once you got hold of someone), and made it apparent to me that they could care less about providing customer service. Basic things like generating correct and timely invoices were a challenge for this crew. Pray that you do not have more serious problems to resolve. A dresser that we had in storage at Nor Cal was broken when it was delivered to us. The movers themselves documented that this damage did NOT occur during the move, but that the piece of furniture was already broken when they picked it up from the storage facility. Replacing the item would have cost at least $1,600, but given that it was already two years old, I submitted what I considered a fair claim for only $800. Nor Cal send me a check for $300, with a note from Peter Mazzetti stating that the table in question (it's actually a dresser) had been repaired by Nor Cal (not sure how they did this when the item is still sitting in my garage, damaged beyond repair), and that I had taken receipt of the table and had thus assumed responsibility for it. His exact comments were: "We repaired the table in question and after it was in your complete care, custody and control was damaged after the repairs were completed. Our denial of your claim stands." Clearly Mr. Mazzetti could care less about facts or delivering a service that his company had promised they would. I can only assume that he is counting on me not wanting to deal with the hassle of filing a law suit, and that I will simply go away. That won't happen. This is clearly not a company that you want to do business with. In my experience, they have a total lack of concern for their customers, do not even pretend to look at the facts, and do not stand by their service. With all the choice you have, why would you ever take a chance to work with Nor Cal Moving ? read more

I am so dissatisfied with this moving company, I had to write a review. This is my third long-distance move and the third company I have dealt with. I chose Allied (Nor Cal Moving was the local agent) because of their price and the initial customer service experience I had with their estimator, Dwight. Dwight was a pleasure to work with. He was never condescending (which some of the other people who came to give estimates were) and he never acted as though my move, which was small and paying for out of my own pocket, was not important to him. The day of the move went great. The driver, Fernando, was THE BEST. He had four people there to carry and pack and it went very smoothly. Of all of the moving experiences I have had this was the best. Delivery went fine. Fernando was able to drive up close to my apartment and save me a lot of money on extra fees. The people he brought were polite and professional and everything was delivered perfectly. The reason this move has been a terrible experience is the people in the offices at Nor Cal Moving. Angela was the move coordinator and there were many times in dealing with her when she was just short of rude. A long-distance move is stressful and expensive and she made no effort in being considerate of making things better. The absolute worst thing about Nor Cal has been the way they have handled things post-move. When you move within the state of California they quote you a "not to exceed" price. As is to be expected, this amount is more than what you end up paying. This is where Nor Cal has completely dropped the ball. My move weight was a lot less than what was calculated (as I expected) and so now they owe me a refund. First I was told I had to wait until after the delivery in case there were additional charges at destination. Then I was told I had to wait until the driver returned to San Leandro with my paperwork and that took another week after my things were delivered. Then I was told that the CEO had to approve all the paperwork and that only happens on Thursdays. Last Monday I was told it was expedited. Today is Monday and I have been told it's in their credit card processing department. I am now going to write to the BBB and to the California Public Utilities Commission to let them know about this. All they have to do is credit my credit card and I know for a fact there is no way that should take a week. Such a shame. It could have been the one time I recommended a moving company. Worst moving experience ever. I've moved out of the country twice and my my with Nor Cal from SF to Chicago was one of the least professional experiences I've ever had. The sales guy that came out to give me a quote, gave me a business card that had someone else's number on it so I was not able to reach him directly. The front office and scheduling coordinator didn't return my calls and I had to call multiple times to confirm pick and and delivery. The guys that came to load my belongings were sloppy and slow. I paid for Armour Packaging for my TV and when it arrived it was two large boxes that had been flattened, wrapped around the TV with tape. They lost half the screws for my bed frame and the universal mount fo rmy TV They didn't provide me with a full invoice and I had to call back many times to get this. VERY unprofessional. read more

I used Nor-Cal moving on the past weekend and they are really hard-working mover taking care ALL my items from start (packing) to the end (unloading). The leader Roberto and his team are VERY polite and would ask questions, even going to use your bathroom. Though the number of boxes is exceeding what they originally estimate, they go back to get more boxes to finish all the work. I regret not having read these posts before hiring this company. I rarely write reviews, but I am just so mad at this company I have to let you you: DO NOT WORK WITH THEM! This is by far the WORST moving company I have dealt with in 4 countries (I have moved around 7 times, internationally). It isn't just the crew member were rude and unprofessional, but we had a serious issue with them and I am definitely letting the BBB know as well other legal entities. This company should be out of business and I am surprise they belong to such a large group as Allied. I agreed to a service and hourly rate (Over $200 per/hour. To my surprise in the middle of the move they said "They were not allowed to pack any more, nor provide more boxes". So we ended up doing the packing ourselves. The list is problem is endless: - They didn't deliver boxes correctly inside the house. I ended up with 15 boxes piled in the garage, unable to even move them myself. - Several items were damaged - Several marks were left in the property - They charged me $100 for a 9 mile drive After several inquiries for a formal invoice for the services rendered, 2 weeks after the move we still haven't received anything and our credit card charged $1,900 I will pursue this until all customer protection agencies are aware. read more

Terrible experience with the performance of the company. We had them provide service for a very small move within the Bay Area and they managed to lose $10k worth of household goods + plus damaged a variety of high quality furniture items. 3 months without a response to cover the losses or repair the damages. We had a great experience with Nor-Cal Moving. Given our very tight timeline and little notice to tell them when the move would happen we would likely give them a 6th star if that were possible. Our bank could not gets its act together so we didn't know our exact move date until the day before- but that was no problem -- or they made it seem like it was no problem. Dwight, our point of contact, bent over backwards to make our move a success from the first call to the day of the move. We had his cell and his office number and anything that came up, 7 days a week, he was all over it. He coordinated with the packing team (just packed our breakables- money well spent), the trucks/movers, and the team that handled unhooking/hook-up of our washer-dryer. When there was a bit of confusion with the washer dryer team he solved the problem and we were fine. The team that packed our breakables was amazing. We could never have done such a great job in such little time. And then the 5 guys who did the actual move were also great-- so efficient but so attentive (they noted which nightstand went on which side of our bed and reset our living room in the new house to match the old house exactly!!! We would hire that group again in a heartbeat. Are they the cheapest? No. They are a full service company and so charge full-service prices. But in the tier of companies like them they were competitive, and, more importantly, they stuck to their cost estimate except when we added services. But if your point of reference is "one big guy and one big truck" then you should keep looking. What I would ask going in is who will actually be doing the move. My impression is they use contractors and so while they manage the project you could have some variation in service based on who shows up at your door. But given how involved Dwight was in the process, my feeling is you could jump on the phone if there were a problem and he would have solved it. The final bonus was that they provided us with used boxes. What a great way to save money and avoid having to stalk the supermarkets and Babies R Us stores for empty boxes. We got great quality boxes that just had some writing on it. A great option. read more

We are currently in the process of moving from the San Jose area to the Raleigh area. On or around Jan 4th Chris Kohlman came to our house to give us an estimate. Immediately I felt like we were in the best hands for our move! Chris gave us a great estimate and we signed immediately. As a matter of fact our kids were also moving and Chris gave them an estimate as well - which they signed on as well - feeling very comfortable! Chris said he would bring us supplies and true to his word he delivered!! Unfortunately a few days later Chris was admitted to the hospital and we were left in the hands of the move coordinator Lucy Lamson - our experience with Lucy was just ok - response time to our requests was NOT good!! It was clearly a back and forth frustrating situation - after a few weeks of dealing with Lucy we needed to change our dates and after sending emails and leaving messages and no response I gave in and called the 800 number. I spoke with Ana Gonzalez this week and she was very helpful - assured me our estimate would not change and also that Lucy was not with the company! Upon hearing this I felt the company should have informed us about the change rather than our receiving out of office responses! On the bright side Paul Swaim was given the job to bring us additional supplies yesterday! Paul is awesome - SO HELPFUL and willing to do whatever he can to assist us in Chris's absence - mind you he is under no obligation to take on our move in any way shape or form yet that's EXACTLY what he's doing! I cannot say how thankful we are to have him to turn to - literally I've sent him a text and he responded immediately- what a pleasure! Paul is going over and above what he needs to do! Paul Swaim and Chris Kohlman are truly the best - experienced, knowledgeable and there for the customer! True gentlemen and they should both be commended on the GREAT job they're doing! The pick up was done by Reebie and it went well. Two great guys came over, arrived on time, were very friendly, careful with my stuff, and very cooperative. The delivery by Nor Cal is turning out to be a nightmare. I was given a 3 day window. A day back I was told that the delivery would occur between 10am and 12pm. Come 12pm and I did not receive and calls or updates. A Reebie agent called me at 12, apologized but gave no reason as to why the delay occurred and provide a new estimate of 2pm. Around 1:35pm I decided to call the local Nor Cal agent to see if they are on their way. I called several times but they did not pick up the phone and also had a full mail box! I then tried calling the Reebie agent but he did not pick up the phone either. I sent him an email and no response either. I then called the Allied main 1-800 number. I have been transferred 3 times, have been on hold the past 12 minutes and have no idea what is going on. I took time off from work, canceled my meetings in the first half to receive the delivery and now it is afternoon. I have rescheduled my afternoon activities and still no sign of any delivery !!! read more

Let's face it, moving is tough business, it's expensive, and it's scary. I have moved many times, mostly with Allied, a company who has earned my trust. Nor-Cal's service in estimating and planning my move across country was thoughtful, helpful, and professional. They kept me informed as the time grew near. Saturday my truck and crew arrived with a positive, helpful attitude, and proceeded to carefully load my belongings. I'm not sure it could have been done better. The workers were careful to protect furniture and my home, and the drivers kept meticulous records, and loaded the truck with an amazing skill. When small issues arose, everyone was helpful and positive. I used NorCal Allied for a cross-country move from San Francisco to New York. My move coordinator was very nice and that part of the process (pre-move) went smoothly. There was one small glass item destroyed by the packers during the packing process. That happens. What then went horribly wrong was the condition of my large furniture (anything that hadn't been packed in a box) when it was brought up to my apartment in New York. It's possible that the local movers Allied used were the problem, but there was major damage to my furniture. Several large items (dining table, media console, chairs) were clearly not wrapped and were clearly dropped. The damage as assessed by Allied's assessor is more than $1K. Now I'm responsible for getting these items repaired. Not to mention I purchased extra insurance, so I'm paying a $500 deductible in addition to the ~$600 I paid for the insurance. I'm in the process of trying to track down what Allied's financial responsibility is for the damage, so far it appears that I am paying for the damage myself via the deductible and cost of insurance. Awful. I'd never take the chance with Allied again. Their movers (at least in New York or San Francisco, whichever location this happened in, I'll never know) clearly don't care. read more

Our office had to move to a different suite in the same building about six months ago.I had put in calls to three separate movers and Nor-Cal was the only one that returned my phone call. Jim Colwell was incredible! He arranged for boxes, guided me every step of the way, was very flexible and did every single thing that I needed him to do. We're moving again, in several stages and I would not have called anyone else but Nor-Cal. Consummate professionals, every one of them. They moved our basement storage last weekend, over 300 boxes of files and 24 bookcases. Every numbered box was put away in order and the shelving bolted together. Eight men showed up at the appointed time: Chris, Mike, Tito, Mike, Francisco, Felix, David and Damien, (who solved a major problem on the fly.) Lots of fun chatter about the Niners, Raiders and the Sharks but nobody stood still and the whole thing was done in less than six hours. Our office move is in a week. I've changed the date and time about a half a dozen times; never a problem. Much coordinating has had to happen between the management of both buildings, with Jim Colwell leading the charge. Howard from Nor-Cal Movers came to my office/warehouse on June 6, 2017, to provide an estimate for moving my company from San Francisco to Oakland. To date, July 7, 2017, I have not received an estimate for the move. I have called the Oakland office many times and have been given Howard's email address and phone number. He has not responded to calls nor to an email requesting the estimate. Each time I call the office I get transferred around, leave a message and no one returns my calls. I used Nor Cal twice this past month to move our office from a large suite to a smaller location. Everything went well. Their sales rep was very accommodating to our constantly changing schedule (shrinking from 40 people to 5 takes juggling lots of logistics). The moving teams were well organized and professional. They carry the necessary insurance required by our Landlord. They followed all of our Landlord's strict requirements. I highly recommend them. read more

I was very cautious about selecting a moving company and had done my research in comparing companies. I chose Nor-Cal after I met with Paul Swaim for an estimate. He was very honest and patient with my many questions throughout the entire process. He always returned my calls and emails timely and followed-up on agreed upon deliverables. The price was competitive and the workers were efficient and respectful towards my family and I as well as our possessions. NORCAL/Allied moved us from Santa Rosa CA to Washington Aug-Sept '16. Movers at both ends were professional, courteous, and helpful. We had a delivery delay, probably out of anyone's control. Other than that, all went well. I'd recommend them. Moving is stressful, so it's good to know that movers are paying attention. read more

I just moved from the Bay Area across the country for a year-long assignment. I used Nor-Cal to pack all the stuff in our home, and move most of it to storage. The stuff that we were taking with us was packed to be shipped Fedex. They showed up on time; as many men as were promised came; they were courteous, professional, extremely hardworking, and packed the stuff pretty well (with the exception of 3 China Plates and a few Stoneware Cannisters, all the stuff they packed for Fedex arrived safely.) They did not go over their budgeted expense, and except for one small issue (they charged us for two crates, but never built / used them - we're following up to resolve this), we've been very happy so far (our stuff is in their storage, so we'll know a year from now!). As Guill B. mentioned, they were also the most reasonable of all the "name-brand" moving companies. I will definitely recommend them to anyone looking for Packers / Movers. read more
