I'm quite surprised at the less than favorable reviews for the Normandy Kitchen. I stayed at the hotel for two days and ate at the Kitchen for dinners and breakfasts. For dinner, I had the same waitress on both occasions named Amanda. She was extremely attentive, nice and we even discussed publishing, which I was in town for. Both nights I had a Cobb salad, which was excellent! The citrus vinaigrette dressing they used was very tasty and the salad and condiments looked very fresh. On the menu it says the Cobb salad is supposed to come with a brown derby dressing, but I think I much prefer the citrus vinaigrette. I will definitely come back to the Normandy Kitchen for dinner if I'm in town again! read more

This little gem tucked away within a Best Western hotel in downtown Minneapolis turned out to be quite a pleasant surprise! The décor was classic (some may say dated, but I say classic), and the food I got was on point! I started with a crab cake with mushroom ragoût as appetiser, and I was already blown away! My main entrée was a delicious Henry VIII burger, and it came with fries. (I was slightly disappointed that the fries were not named Anne Boleyn frites. Though, that the restaurant served the burger on what seems to be a custom Henry VIII plate was a nice touch.) The server recommended the in-house blackberry sorbet as dessert, and to my delight the sorbet was the perfect way to end the meal. read more

The food was great but the service was terrible! I think our server was on drugs, our food and drinks too forever and when hey did come out they were cold. We had to get up and track down servers to get help. Our bill took forever to pay and they didn't even split it up for us. It took use two and a half hours to get dinner and two drinks. We still paid our bill in full. I will never go back. read more

Horrible place! I live near by and have been in there a few times. Slow service at the bar every time and not very friendly. This most recent time I stopped in for a glass of wine and noticed that they had flies flying around all the bottles of wine and up the pillar at the end of the bar. I witnessed the bartender merge a bottle of wine with the current open bottle, Wondering if that why the wine tasted off. Would not recommend this place to anyone! This was my first time visiting this restaurant. Even if the food and drinks are great, if the service isn't good you never want to go back. That was not the case for this meal. Our server Will joked around with us, asked us about were we where from and gave us some of the best service I have had in a long time. I highly recommend the Normandy Kitchen when you are in downtown minneapolis and make sure to ask for will as your server you will not be disapointed. read more

They advertise the World's Best Pancakes and they are pretty delicious. The maple syrup only enhances the flavor. The bacon strips were big and juicy. The coffee, organic type, was very good too. Great breakfast with super friendly service. read more

Stayed at the Best Western and as soon as I saw the menu in the room, I knew I'd be making time to eat breakfast here. Normandy Kitchen, you had me at Apple Fritter French Toast. I stopped in on a pretty busy Sunday morning, and was overwhelmed with good service from the host, to the waiter, to the manager. I often put a hefty grade on places on how quickly my water gets refilled, and on a scale of 1-10, this place was a 15. I even had waitstaff that wasn't my own filling my glass, very well done. Apple. Fritter. French. Toast. Absolutely everything I wanted it to be and more. It was absolutely delicious. I also ordered the hash browns which were perfectly done as well. I normally don't love breakfast...but I love the Normandy Kitchen breakfast. read more

Normandy Kitchen serves classic cuisine, with attentive, gracious service. The menu presents traditional treats such as: popovers with maple butter, French Onion Soup, meatloaf, roast turkey pot pie and braised short ribs along with more contemporary selections: turkey sliders, cauliflower fritters and braised kale and quinoa. My husband had the meatloaf which was served with a beautiful sauce, creamy mashed potatoes and broccoli. I had a popover which was a vintage style treat I couldn't pass up. We also had French Onion Soup which is something we try whenever it's on a menu. We ranked Normandy Kitchen's right up there with our favorite at Coquette in Milwaukee, the gold standard. What really amazed my husband and I, was the gracious and professional service. We received from Bonnie and the well-trained staff who all did their best to assure great service. Normandy Kitchen reminded me of classic food experiences I haven't had in a long while. No gimmicks, no cut corners, just really well prepared food. I wish I could have eaten more and didn't live so far away because I didn't even get to try the profiteroles or pies. Next time we're passing through this will be one of our stops. read more

Good to know super Bowlers that a wonderful meal can be had in the Twin Cities for a reasonable price with great atmosphere wonderful service and super good food menu items. If you're in the meatloaf it's the best ever. Popovers have been around since 1970. Super good with maple butter. For dessert you must have the beignets. French New Orleans at its best. The poor rating is for the poor service. The food was very good. We did have a large party of 16 people. We had one, very disorganized server. One hour after we got there we finally got our first round of drinks, then got our menus. Two hours later we got our second round of drinks. A half hour later we got our food. My wife and I stopped in for lunch on a Monday. There were two tables with customers, two servers and a bar tender. The rest of the place was empty. One server sat us at a high top in the bar, and informed us our server would be right with us. The person I presume was our server was preoccupied with his phone and didn't bother to acknowledge our presence. The other server and bar tender just ignored us as they stood 10 ft away. We sat there for ten minutes without even a glance. When I asked if we could get some service we were told our server would be with us soon. We decided that game was over and left. We found another restaurant just a short walk away with much better service. read more

The only good thing about the restaurant is it's ambiance and serving staff. Everyone was very friendly and the decor is vintage and adorable! However, we came here for a Mother's Day brunch and they were out of literally everything on the menu! Super disappointing. I came from out of town and had high expectations to treat my mom to a special meal. We ordered coffee ($4.50 for a plain iced coffee) and took the bill and left. Our waiter was apologetic and of course it was not his fault, but to have such limited options and being out of items on an already limited menu was not acceptable. I'm sure based off of the limited brunch menu selection (there could not have been more than 8 items to choose from) the food itself is good, however when preparing for an occasion such as Mother's Day, I could not believe what limited options there truly were. Our server was friendly, though new and not very knowledgeable about the menu or specials. We went for "happy hour" but this only consisted of $2 off wine and tap beers. There is no happy hour menu. The cheese board we ordered was a sad sight...mediocre to blah cheese, 5 pieces of pecan stuck together, a not-so-fresh handful of blueberries, & some chutney (?) that didn't look appetizing enough to taste. As far as hotel joints go this one stuck out, we had a great steak dinner here and breakfast twice over the weekend. Stayed right at the Normandy. This restaurant has an air of being a refined eating establishment and it seemed to have gone to the staffs head. We asked simple questions, like could you give us a carafe of water - met with a look that we dared ask the waiter to do a task beneath his superiority. Then when we asked for a basket of bread, again, same attitude. What got us was, instead of a carafe, he brought a large glass filled with ice water and a regular glass with just ice. The bread basked was tossed onto the farthest part of our table where we had to practically stand up to reach it. Only to see him take a basket to a table close to us and he politely placed it near the guest. We travel to Minneapolis for lots of shows and concerts every year. We discovered the BW Normandy Hotel by chance because of its closeness to a lot of the venues we attend. The hotel and restaurant is showing its age. The restaurant has good food, but their attitude and ambience is less to be desired. They're not a 5 Star place. We've been to 5 Star restaurants and do know the difference. I don't know if it's because we may not dress the part, or show off that we have knowledge of fancy cuisine because we may mispronounce a word or ask questions about their food... we're down to earth and are naturally not conformed to show any form of status in life. We're two older people with grandkids enjoying life. read more

We started off with the Crispy Calamari then moved on to our entrées. 12oz Steak was cooked perfectly as medium rare, Free Range Rotisserie Chicken was the best chicken I've ever tasted, Cider Brined Pork Tenderloin was very flavorful, however, the best of all was the Port Braised Short Ribs! It didn't take long for me to walk out of here. For how small it is, it took a little too long to get noticed in that place. Once I was approached, the cocktail waitress was very short and clearly did not want to be there. Not sure if she was just having a bad day, but I did not feel welcome. Normandy Kitchen is one of the BESTrestaurants I've eaten at. The burgers are the BEST & their desert is AMAZING! My friends and I had a very memorable time at this place during our visit to MN. It made our trip that much better. It is also very affordable. The staff and servers are amazing, especially Kirk. He was very attentive and personable but also very professional! The new chef is *amazing* - just ate an incredibly delicious dinner this past week. The restaurant is as welcoming as ever, the quiet atmosphere allows for conversation. And the new dinner menu simply rocked. The scallops with lavender honey melted in my mouth, the Belgian chocolate mousse was yummy. One of our friends had an amazing wild mushroom risotto that was perfect as well. How lovely that this restaurant has a French chef now. read more

What an unknown gem in downtown Minneapolis! Service is excellent and I can't give enough praise for the food. If you love to see exquistely plated food before you eat - you won't find finer. The food is excellent, and I like the ambiance. There should be tighter management, however. They open at 7 AM, which is early for a Sunday, so I entered the dining area at about 7:15. There was nobody in the area, but I could hear the wait persons/cooks in the back. Finally, the desk clerk (from the hotel) came in, and she was nice enough to go to the kitchen and inform them. Just had dinner with a friend. The food was some of the best I have had in a long time. The service was understated but professional and attentive. The hostess was very friendly, the restaurant lovely and (in downtown Minneapolis) they validated most of the parking. Great value.
